One-star review as a warning to others. My elderly family members were offered and agreed a trade-in price whilst visiting the branch, based on which they purchased a new caravan from Perthshire Caravans. They were told to bring their caravan with them when collecting the new one. Only after they arrived, having travelled, exhausted, and already committed financially, were they told the caravan would not be accepted, with a sudden claim of damp that simply was not present. The previously agreed trade-in was then reduced by £3,000, leaving them offered well below market value. At that point they felt pressured and trapped, facing the ordeal of undoing a completed purchase or accepting a substantial loss just to get home. I am angry and disgusted that a supposedly well-established company would conduct business in this manner, particularly with elderly customers. My advice to others is simple: never rely on verbal agreements and do not complete any deal unless your trade-in has been physically inspected and accepted in writing. Salesperson involved was Grant.

Disappointing New Caravan Purchase and After-Sales Experience

​I purchased a new caravan from Perthshire Caravans. My experience with the caravan and subsequent service was, in my opinion, disappointing.

​The caravan was delivered with defects and addressing these issues ultimately took more than two months. Furthermore, upon attending to collect the caravan having been told, incorrectly, that all the items had been fixed I noticed damage, which I believe had occurred while the caravan was on their premises for repair. In my personal opinion, the level of after-sales care received during this extended process was not satisfactory.

​I am sharing this review mainly to encourage other buyers to understand their consumer rights. Please note: I am not a solicitor, I am not legally qualified, and the information below is simply my layperson's understanding of the law. This is not legal advice, and you should always verify your rights and legal position with an appropriately qualified person.

​Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA 2015) – My Understanding:

​When you purchase a caravan or motorhome from a trader in the UK, the following key rights apply under the CRA 2015:

​Short-Term Right to Reject (First 30 Days): If a product is not of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, or as described, you have a short-term right to reject it and demand a full refund.

​Right to Repair or Replacement (Up to Six Months): After the initial 30 days and within six months, you are entitled to request a repair or replacement. If that repair or replacement is not completed within a reasonable time or causes you undue inconvenience, you can exercise your final right to reject and seek a full refund or a price reduction if you wish to keep it.

​Burden of Proof (First Six Months): If a fault develops within the first six months, the law presumes the fault was present at the time of purchase, and the burden is on the retailer to prove otherwise.

​You have the right to submit a Subject Access Request (SAR). This is a request that allows you to access all your personal information and communications the company holds about you - contracts, emails, notes, letters, CCTV etc. To submit a SAR, you typically just need to email the company and clearly ask for all the personal information they hold about you. They cannot charge you a fee for this. Official guidance on making a Subject Access Request is available on the website of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

When dropping off a caravan or a motorhome for repair or service, my opinion is that it's reasonable to ask that it is inspected with you so if it subsequently gets damaged in the dealers care you have some evidence of this. I did this when I dropped off my caravan for repairs and carried out an inspection with a member of staff.

​Always keep meticulous written records, emails, and photographs of any issues or repairs for reference. I also advise future buyers to familiarise themselves with their rights and to document any issues thoroughly. I hope this information helps others.

This customer came to us as the dealer who had supplied his previous caravan (a reputable English dealer) would no longer deal with him - perhaps this should have set the alarm bells ringing for us, however we always like to take everyone on their own merit.

He refused to co-operate with Service Department procedures and staff, and acted in a very erratic manner. He seems to like to put staff members in very uncomfortable situations. As an example, on one occasion he eerily followed up a Service visit with an email saying how wonderful and professional one of our staff members had been after acting in a very offhand manner towards them.

We check over caravans and motorhomes when they arrive on our premises and we did not damage the customer’s habitation door retainer. There was a tiny hairline crack on it which the customer went to great lengths to blame us for. It was more or less imperceptible and probably a safe bet to complain about as it would be unlikely that any photos would show this. We replaced it as a goodwill gesture with no quibble.

He wasn’t happy when his caravan was left out in the front compound for collection, he wasn’t happy when it was left in the rear compound for collection… and complained about both.

At his last visit, the customer advised that he would not be checking over the repairs as customers are expected/asked to do as he was in a rush to get to a doctor’s appointment, bearing in mind that this was a pre-organised appointment with us. We are not sure how many GP or hospital car parks would accommodate a caravan. He bizarrely scribbled notes on scrap paper asking them to be passed to management and was generally behaving in a strange and contrary manner in relation to our company trying to help him. His disconcerting and passive aggressive manner caused serious upset/distress to staff members.

Staff have the right to do their ‘day to day’ job without being subjected to intimidation tactics and bullying.

This customer seems to approach companies having already made his mind up that he is going to attack them and not work with them in a positive way, as his review very much suggests.

The customer advised Erwin Hymer that he was satisfied with the repairs and was putting it away for the winter when it left us. Erwin Hymer contacted us to advise us of this.

Perthshire caravans

Purchased a new Baileys caravan from them and waited 8 weeks for the snagging list work to be completed, when i picked the caravan up i found that not all the snagging list items had been addressed. Was not even offered an apology. several visits were required (each a 140mile round trip) before the work was completed. Further issues with the caravan occurred and despite returning the caravan under warranty the work carried out could only be described as awful (frayed wires wrapped in tape, buckled trim replaced with buckled trim, the list goes on). When i reported this to the service manager i was treated very badly and my issues were dismissed. E-mails go unanswered. I then asked for a copy of there complaints procedure, the contact details of the manager, and a list of trade bodies they belong too, again this was ignored. 2 years from purchase we are still trying to get issues resolved under warranty but are now in discussion with Baileys direct who also ignore e-mails and our concerns.

Great service

Whilst away with my caravan, the bathroom sink developed a leak, about 2 pints a day. I called in to Perthshire caravans to see if A) this is something they could do. B) Are the parts available, my van is a 2009 model and C) When could I book it in.
They asked if I could wait until a technician was available, about 20 mins. Not only did they have a look, but as they had the parts in stock they fitted it there and then. What a service, I can't praise them highly enough, and such friendly staff.

Service experience at Perthshire Caravans

Our beloved Swift 640 was in for a warranty job for a couple of issues- I cannot praise the Perthshire Service Department highly enough- from the receptionist on the desk to the Service Technician that appraised the warranty job. He took time to explain the remedial work, advised exactly what had been done and the rationale for the work, advising that he had carried out further investigation to confirm that the repairs would be effective.

Going the extra mile seems normal for Perthshire Caravans so it has to be another 5 star ⭐ review from us - service like this goes a long way to confirm we made the right choice in purchasing our motorhome from Perthshire

Shocking Customer Service

Please read reviews on Trust Pilot about this company going back several year I really wish I had. Shocking Customer Service, extremely rude and hostile Director, would not recommend dealing with this company

Her response to my review was to make up lies about my conduct. What a low life reply by a business that sold a caravan that was knowingly unfit for purpose. Oh and now are trying to sell it to some other unsuspecting person at a reduced price. How low to make false allegations about someone that you said you were not going to refund but who had the law on her side and you were forced to do just that. I have a list of ppl as long as your arm who would never deal with this shambles of a company again and we all can’t be wrong.
The remaining claim will be handled by the courts system

I had a small 'ding' to my caravan…

I had a small 'ding' to my caravan whilst touring the area. I did a 'walk-in' to Perthshire Caravans and whilst they didn't have the part available, the Service Department was first class in checking the van over and offering suggestions for repair. Very helpful, knowledgeable and reassuring. As an aside, they also have a fantastic selection of used & new caravans and motorhomes. Thanks for your assistance.

Vent cover replacement.

Wow, sorted out my issue super quick and at short notice: very very much appreciated.

The Red Lion Caravan Park

The Red Lion Caravan Park, Arbroath, is at present very unsightly, (replacement of piping of water taking place). There are no warning or diversion signs in place on site to help owners or visitors avoid this upheaval.
Staff are very unhelpful and on repeated occasions disrespectful. Rating should be NIL at present, (in my personal view).

Caravan was in for some warranty work

Caravan was in for some warranty work. Lorraine called me back within the week to say that all the work has been done. Not only that the engineers also went that extra mile to ensure that certain items on the list were over engineered so the fault would definitely not happen again. Great service, very professional and polite service. For my first time caravaning these are the type of people that ensure all is OK. Many thanks to all in the service department

Big ‘ups’ for Perthshire Caravans. On longterm retirement travel, when other dealers, workshops & auto electricians were too busy to help, PC took my campervan and diagnosed and fixed my broken water pump within 90min of arrival.
The service staff (thanks Marion) said, “Lets see what we can do”, rather than ‘Sorry, were too busy!”
Offered tea/coffee and TV while waiting, but spent most time exploring their extensive motorhome stock and accessory shop.
It was finally great to have the replacement pump changed in, and be on my way again.
