Toby rewards loyalty with unusable vouchers

Toby
Likes: honest food at an honest price, good service, clean restaurants with a pleasant atmosphere, easy online booking.
Dislikes: toilets always seem broken (who breaks stuff in toilets FFS?), drinks prices are too high & my biggest gripe, the Toby loyalty app !
When you visit a Toby restaurant you will see promotional posters that encourage you to download their app, you do this & on each visit you present your app code & collect virtual card stamps.
Through the app you receive vouchers & discounts but this is where the fun stops unless you are a sole diner. You can’t use the time limited vouchers that you have been issued ! If one person in a group presents a voucher, the rest of the table is barred from using their’s, even when you pay separately, you can only use one voucher per visit per table. To be annoying, myself & friends booked separate tables, this did not go down well at all when we asked to be seated at neighbouring tables !
We contacted head office & they were just officious & uninterested in our complaint. Long story short, your loyalty is not valued at all.

The carvery was terrible in Exeter

The carvery was terrible in Exeter, meat fatty, potatoes so hard, many compliments I could hear from tables around me. Complained only to be brought moor hard Unable to cut potatoes, they charged us for a children's meal as compensation, very poor.

Visited Toby Carvery Gorseinon

Visited Toby Carvery Gorseinon, after booking a table, waited approximately 10 minutes, 10 people waiting in the queue, despite being acknowledged by the staff on 2 occasions, got the table eventually, went up and ordered the food, got to the gravy and guess what, NO GRAVY, notified a member of staff, again, we waited, there we were, 5 customers waiting for gravy, our food going cold, eventually it turned up, simply not good enough. The only positive from this, our lovely customer service assistant HANNAH, who was quite simply fantastic. A great day out spoilt.

Toby Whitewebbs Enfield will not visit again

What went right well the food was ok. The service was terrible Id booked online for lunch. We were placed in a darkened area as the bright area had no serving staff. We waited 15 mins plus for drinks and to be asked food order ie alternative to carvery. Very few other guests. Nobody arrived so made our way to carvery ate food no one asked if it was ok after drinks arrived no one asked if we wanted refills. 30 mins after finishing mains I went to bar and ordered desserts. 2 staff were laughing and drinking
Yes Ice-cream be ready in 5 mins. After 15 mins I returned to bar and the drinking staff then went to fetch it. No one asked if we wanted coffee etc. As OAPs of a great age we joked that if we walked out without paying no one would notice we had left. Returned to bar area to ask for bill as we didnt want rigor mortis to set in! We did not leave a tip and it obviously wasnt expected. The ladies toilets were in a disgusting state one door lock was broken, reading reviews it had been like that for past 2 months, no soap, a dispenser was broken and the place looked and felt filthy. I complained on the Toby site only to receive an email basically blaming me for booking as on arrival we d been told of staff shortage and then threatening us with the police etc had we left without paying. Not addressing anything. Dont open if you havent the staff! Can just see the press having a field day with 3 elderly ladies in handcuffs with mobility aids. On another review site gave a number to call to resolve problems. Tried this over a Fri-Sun 5x varying times always goes to answer phone says will return your call well they havent yet. This Toby used to be really great we will not be returning.

I took my daughter for pre 18th lunch…

I took my daughter for pre 18th lunch because she loves carvery’s. Will never go again to the ormskirk one. The server couldn’t be bothered. He practically threw the tiniest bits of meat on our plate. About 2 mouthfuls. The potatoes were cold and tough. All of it was cold even the gravy. I’ve never been so disappointed and disgusted at the meal we had!!!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE- GODA & ROLAND

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the customer experience I had at your Toby Carvery Vancouver Drive, Crawley branch, specifically regarding the behavior of two staff members, Goda Dula and Roland, who are managers at the establishment.

On Wednesday, August 15th, at 5:22 pm, my daughter and I visited the restaurant to enjoy a meal. I received discount vouchers via email and my daughter holds a blue light card, we were looking forward to a pleasant dining experience The food was enjoyable, and our waitress provided excellent service, as always. However, our positive experience took a sharp turn when we encountered an issue with our bill and the use of discount voucher & blue light.

We requested separate bills for our table, and we were initially told by a waitress to pay at the main bar area due to the electronic system not allowing separate payments. Upon approaching Goda at the bar area to settle our bills individually using separate vouchers, we were informed that this was not possible, and our vouchers were not accepted. This was puzzling to us, as we are aware that the restaurant accepts Blue Light & EDMS vouchers on separate bills.

Our attempt to explain this was met with resistance and the situation escalated when Roland rudely addressed us and informed us that we were "not welcome back" to the establishment. The public humiliation and lack of empathy for our situation that ensued from this interaction were extremely disappointing.

I believe that the video footage of the incident speaks for itself and serves as evidence of the inappropriate treatment we received. I strongly urge you to address this matter and take appropriate action. The behavior of these staff members was unprofessional and uncalled for, and their actions do not reflect the values of your establishment.

I believe that their dismissal is necessary to uphold the standards of customer service and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. I hope that this issue can be resolved efficiently and that necessary steps will be taken to prevent similar situations from arising in the future.

Litte Britain on steroids!!!

If you are looking for a full on Little Britain experience, only worse then this is definitely the place to come. Honesty the worse place I have ever attempted to eat. Why any restaurant would put somebody so rude and clearly unable to deal with the demands of working the front of house at a restaurant is beyond me. Swearing, cursing Jesus Christ and having open conversations about her fact that they have ran out of meat and cannot cope with all the bookings they have taken is highly unprofessional. As if I was not put off enough already they also lost our booking and we had a genuine “the computer says no” experience.

We booked a table for 5pm

We booked a table for 5pm. Was a hot day so almost empty in the restaurant. Meats were fine but potatoes and vegetables had clearly been sat in the containers for most of the day. Overheard the evening senior chef, upon his arrival, advising the restaurant staff to NOT replace the 'deck' because its so quiet.
In restaurant kitchen speak, the 'deck' is where the potatoes and vegetables are situated.

Therefore, due to the lack of customers expected that afternoon and evening, the decision was made by the kichen management to provide 8 to 12 hours old potatoes and vegetables to said fee paying customers.
This is clearly the economic model of Toby Carvery. To offer a substandard level of food produce in order to maintain maximum profit margins.

I went there for my son’s birthday and…

I went there for my son’s birthday and I had a terrible experience!! we had groupon vouchers and when we went to pay they told us they cannot take our vouchers and told us they was going to ring their manager, they then came back and told us we was banned from coming back and then used the vouchers.. on terms and conditions it says we can use up to 6 each table but they had a massive problem, we even asked to split the bill but they refused. The lady was very disrespectful and rude and the staff were standing around gossiping about the whole situation and we was even threatened by them saying “we will call the police” the food wasn’t even nice the food was dry and disgusting and the meat had blood on it, the toilets were in a state there was sick in the boys toilet and a blocked toilet in the girls disgusting ridiculous staff

We will not be returning.

Not only had all of the food been sat out for a considerable amount of time to the point it had all shrivelled and become dry, the gravy was a lumpy mess, there were 3 hairs in my food and it was an absolute waste of our time and money!!

I would like to tell you about the food…

I would like to tell you about the food in Brentwood Essex but couldn’t get a table for 45 minutes when only one quarter of the tables were taken. I asked is this becuase you are short staffed, and I would understand that , however I was told it was because I had not booked on line. It was 6pm so I looked at the web site and it said no tables at 6pm or 6.10pm, but tables available in twenty minutes. Rather than book it we went for a curry instead. I just hate being lied to ..the 45 minute statement was to discourage us from waiting..how can you run a business when you lie and just wish customers to go away. We went once before after lunch and no problem getting a table, however I took one look at the dried out vegetables and meat on offer, and left. So two visits resulting in not eating..pity it used to be good there, sadly not anymore.

I gave my review on two sites and the toby carvery responded to the other review site by saying they would investigate..yeh watch out for pigs. I checked and they use that same excuse for any poor score , but never once could I find an update on their investigation, or offer to call etc.

Midway Toby, Northampton.

Midway carvery, East Hunsbury, Northampton.
Went for a breakfast with my Dad and one of my mates.
I took my own bottle of ketchup, because in the past they have always run out.
Sure enough both tomato ketchup, and brown sauce were empty.
Unfortunately so were the eggs, se we had a breakfast without eggs.
The breakfast was nice enough, but if you're going to have a fried breakfast you really need eggs on the menu.

Fun king shabby.

Visited toby carvery Langley green Crawley this lunchtime and was very disappointed the Yorkshire was cold the meat was cold and dry looked like yesterday’s very little choice of veg which was cold and inedible potatoes also looked like yesterday’s cold and gravy slopped over them .the only thing that was hot was the gravy. Not worth the money .

Well we expected it to be different new…

Well we expected it to be different new staff etc, but nope this time we went the food was cooked but some food was cold rest was lute warm, then the drinks the glasses looked dirty. Staff was so cba mode were there either in a corner chatting to each other or on there mobile phones. We’re not going again I don’t if this connected because day later we fell ill with really bad flu like symptoms exactly same time. I gave them one star. Either way wasn’t impressed.

Bad day at Chaddesden Derby Toby



We went to the new toby after renovation for the first time. In the past I said I would never go again after bad food. This time the staff were very polite and courteous and helpful but the food was total slop ! The mash was lumpy, the roasts were sat in liquid grease or water, they were soggy to eat, the carrots and veg and meat were all dry and the hard yorkshire pudding looked like a giant twisted roof slate! We feel like we have been ripped off for £27! I sat very close with my wife to 2 other tables who complained about being cramped also. You couldn't move! There were plenty of tables free but we were all seated together and they were free until we actually left so they were not reserved! We will definitely not be going there ever again. Totally ruined the day!

I visited Toby Carvery

I visited Toby Carvery, Queens Drive, Liverpool today. The food wasn’t good. It was tasteless, the roast potatoes tasted like they were burnt and cooked in dirty oil. The lamb was tough as leather. The gammon was fatty and not nice. The cabbage was rock hard, under cooked. The cauliflower cheese was hard too. (It was not aldente it was near raw) The mash tasted like smash, ( yes i tried it many years ago) (not good) and the gravy was absolutely tasteless. I have ate here before and it was a bit better previously. But i tried all on my plate and it was terrible sorry to say.
