Toby Carvery Shenstone
Visited the toby in Chelmsford on 22…
Visited the toby in Chelmsford on 22 Jan.It was very busy and a massive queue for the carvery (but it was 1pm) despite not booking were seated and drinks ordered and served promptly. We waited a while for the queue to reduce, it didn't, so we joined to see the hold up.One woman carving the meat (she was so slow! didn't look like she had done it before!!) Talking to others in the queue, they all agreed it was VERY slow. Some reported waiting 40/50 minutes on previous visits. We waited 1 hour to reach the counter - plates cold(as usual)- yorkshires cold and flat-vegetables luke warm and tasteless- vegetarian gravy thin and tasteless (we were having a meatless carvery) We and others were using the £6 offer, so it was very busy, we shouldn't have bothered! The meal I had was barely worth that. If they want to swell their numbers and attract new customers with such promotions they need to be geared up for such increased trade and provide a better service! Then those people may return (but not likely), going by the many poor reviews I've read for many of the outlets.

On arrival the restaurant was virtually empty loads of seats and tables we were told that they were fully booked there was nobody at the servery we said we would eat in the bar area which was also empty but again was told it would be at least an hour
Went to Toby for my Mums Birthday
Went to Toby for my Mums Birthday, mainly because she loved going there with my late Dad. It has been recently renovated and looks great. Although it was extremely busy we had a very enjoyable experience. The food was delicious and staff were very friendly. Highly recommend this place.
Toby Exeter
Had a collection from toby exeter and it was nowhere near as good as Lympstone. Potatoes tasted warmed up from yesterday veg was dry but the worst for my sons was NO STUFFING in order. I paid for it all and only got half of it
Terrible, don’t bother
Gloucester. Terrible, rude unhelpful staff, no service to speak of , dreadful food, dirty plates and the worst coffee.
No vegetation options at breakfast, or egg selection, cheap bread, the toaster didn’t even work properly, never again!
DISGUSTING
As a family of 5 we pre booked a table. On arrival we was told very abruptly by the bar maid to order drinks and food from her.
We continued on our visit and slowly moved up to the serving hatch to be served by a very RUDE carver. I asked for some lamb beef and turkey, the beef was just massive pieces of fat, my family couldn't even chew the beef they had. I waited 10mins for vegetables to be restocked to be told we have run out now sorry its closing time....... my son only eats roast potatoes in that variety and the metal tray they was in was piping hot and the potatoes was just mush no spuds in it. No gravy was available my son was told he would get a gravy boat brought to the table... still no gravy boat arrived. My partner had a XL and pigs in blankets, he couldn't even bite the sausages. I raised my concerns to the lovely waitress MIA who actually had a proper look at what was served to me. Mia then goes to get her manager who agrees only REFUND 1 MEAL??????? We asked why we were only allowed 1 refunded and was told "because you have already paid" manager then brings the refund of £15.28 waitress Mia then shows the manager who i believe is "Josh tweedy?" Who did no more than laugh at us n say its out of my control.
Service from waitress MIA was outstanding
Service from bar maid DISGUSTING
Service from MANAGER APPALLING
Shocking and Disappointing
Food was very luke warm and they ran out of CUSTARD!
No mash potato’s
Our church group went to Toby Newbury last Saturday
First I like to say they just remodel to bad they didn’t find a new food supply as the food was just as bad as before
Went up to get our food as there was about 50 of us we went in turn
The food was bland at best and they had no mash potato’s who ever hear on no mash potato’s
They didn’t need to remodel they needed a new cook . New food supplier . And new gravy and mash potato’s
Don’t see any reason to go back
On the plus’s the wait staff was great
Worst festive meal ever
Three star maybe too high after our experience. We booked a festive meal on Saturday the 6th of December for 3 adults and 1 child. I requested a booth if possible. After we put our registration in the man said “I’m sorry no booths available “ then he led us to a booth and said “will this do?” “ There was nothing festive about the table at all. After sitting for twenty minutes and no servers came to take the drinks order myself and husband went to the carvery. We were told no Yorkshire puddings for about 15 minutes as he forgot to put them in. The gravy Calderon were nearly empty and the vegetarian gravy was completely empty. When we got back to our table still nobody had been so my husband shouted of one of the girls. We ordered our drinks and told her about the vegetarian gravy being empty. By the time my daughter and granddaughter got back to the table we’d finished our dinner so too late to get a Yorkshire pudding. After another wait after we all finished our dinner we ordered desert off the festive menu. My granddaughter had ordered banana and custard. Five minutes later the girl came back and said “this Toby doesn’t do banana and custard so she had to order something else. The girl then brought the deserts but not mine. I said to her “I ordered Vegan ice cream. Ten minutes later she came back and said “we haven’t any left I can bring a crumble” By the time she brought it everyone else was finished. I had one mouthful and just left it. I was more than disappointed. They should not advertise a festive menu. We went to another establishment yesterday the table was all dressed with a Christmas theme, crackers on the table and wine glasses, it was beautiful unlike the Toby.
Who is cooking that day
White lion Whitchurch. Last Wednesday. Cold meal. Small slice of meat. Waiter hovering waiting to take plate. Worse service I’ve ever had there. Seemed to want us to hurry & go.
The Artichoke
The Artichoke, Brentwood, Essex
We arrived at 12.50 for a 1pm booking and was asked to wait in the bar for a table. Every table in the bar was covered in empty glasses, cups & plates. Half an hour later at 1.20pm we were called through to the 'restaurant' which was in a very dilapidated state and was filthy dirty. The walls were dirty and covered in hand prints, the paintwork chipped and dirty and the ceiling covered on cobwebs. The food was luke-warm and the roast potatoes were as hard as bullets. The gravy station was awash with spilled gravy. The whole time we were there we saw one waitress who was spread so thin as to make getting her attention pretty much impossible. Look I know that this is a cheap meal but basic food hygiene and cleanliness are surely not a big ask. I will not be returning to this or any other Toby carvery outlet, and I will be advising all of my friends and colleagues to avoid them as well.
Excellent service and meal.
Booked a table at Marton Road Middlesbrough for my wife, son and myself. They had an offer on for the carvery. My son was running late so we started on ours then when he arrived the queue had grown. Helen our waitress helped by getting his before we had finished ours. She couldn’t have been more pleasant and helpful. The meal and service were brilliant. Thank you for a very pleasant experience.
Best carvery by far!!
Best carvery by far! Would recommend, lovely staff and food is perfect. Such a good comfort food for the cold season!!
Homeless person Christmas meal
Toby restaurants are great. But main reason for this review is that they are advertising for a homeless charity to give £10 for 2 Christmas dinners for homeless people. Please support this, a homeless person will feel out of this world just to recieve a Christmas Dinner it will be something that will give them hope. I will tell you from my experience to have people going out of their way to cook a Christmas dinner in a night shelter for the homeless hits you hard and makes the day extremely special- someone gone to the trouble make a Christmas meal is something that ordinary person would never experience unless they were homeless. It is the best feeling in the world. So please give that £10 make someone feel special this Christmas.
Went to the Turf at Norton Canes on…
Went to the Turf at Norton Canes on Sunday at 6.30. There was a family of 8 of us. Firstly went for our food & the Chefs white jacket was absolutely black & not with food. He was picking plates up & putting them against his jacket. Then the end of beef was served to one of our party & it was just gristle they had also run put of anymore beef. To say we won't be going back unless there are hygiene changes is an understatement. I'm sorry but it was very off putting

Nottingham rd derby Toby...Horrendous and I wont be returning....had to ask for my food to be warmed up in the microwave for 2 minutes as it was cold....food was tasteless and a waste of time....left my full plate of food and left the restuarant
Toby Carvery, Coldra - amazing!
Toby Carvery, Coldra, Newport is amazing! We went there for my birthday and the staff were so very kind and attentive. I have an unusual intolerance to black pepper, all spices and anything with a peppery flavour (due to an illness). From the moment we arrived I was so well looked after. The greeter sat with me and went through my menu choices, looking up all the ingredients. Then, the kitchen prepared all my vegetables from scratch with nothing added. I had my own selection, all nice and plain. I was overwhelmed by the care and attention that I haven’t found anywhere else. It’s my new favourite place. The food was excellent and really good value too. Thank you Toby Carvery, Coldra, for a lovely evening.
The crown Bromley toby breakfast
The crown Bromley toby breakfast. Extremely poor service . One chef on his own Wednesday. Ask for scrambled egg and served in a small bowl , it was literally like rubber all stuck together, clearly microwave and looks like he forgot to stir and add milk ? Had to wait for restock on breakfast hot plates , chef just said his on his own . Bacon looked rare ? Needs cooking lessons on scrambled eggs .
