Founded in 1976, the shop is currently owned and managed by Ken Costigan and Derek Moody. It's as 100% Irish now as it was guaranteed Irish back then. Since our inception as the Great Outdoors, we have welcomed many adventurers through our doors. People venturing off to the North Pole, Everest and other hard to reach places have all stocked up here before setting off. Others diving in the Red Sea or the Glacial Fjords of Iceland have been equipped through ourselves. Students on J1 visas or Australian work permits have all been looked after before heading off on their travels. No matter how big your adventure, it's still your adventure and we have always strived to make that adventure the best possible one. We hope that anyone who enjoys "the Outdoor Life" will find much to interest them both in our shop and on our site. We have built our reputation on our great brand ranges and the experienced and qualified staff that we employ. All of the staff are outdoors' people and have as much interest in adventure as our customers do.

I felt the service was a bit…disappointing not as sharp as it used to be.
I felt the service was a bit impersonal. Possibly the fact it was Sunday afternoon didn’t help matters. The staff didn’t appear to be familiar with the stock in store and the online stock, which I found confusing.
Eventually I found the item that I needed in your online store.
Apologies for the negative review.

Very quick and easy process. Got to pick up my item very quickly after ordering and the staff were really helpful and friendly in the shop when I went to pick up my item. Would recommend!

Positive experience
Great experience. Initially, I has some problems using a Gift Card on the website. But when I rang the shop, Ben was able to deal with everything over the phone.

Disappointed Shopping Experience
I like the quality of outdoor cloths and boots.
I do not like the lack of choice on some products e.g. I was looking for Berghaus Gaiters. None in stock Also only gaiters in stock was Trekmaster but no size suitable for me (no large). Also appears to be change in range probably due to the trend towards Sports Casuals particularly womens fashion.

Very helpful and approachable staff. Gave good advice and showed me a few options for hiking boots. Ended up buying the boots from their online store but on delivery I noticed a manufacturing defect with one of the shoes. In-store the staff were understanding and swapped the boots for a different pair. Overall I am happy with the experience and I will be back in for a few more hiking bits
