Founded in 1976, the shop is currently owned and managed by Ken Costigan and Derek Moody. It's as 100% Irish now as it was guaranteed Irish back then. Since our inception as the Great Outdoors, we have welcomed many adventurers through our doors. People venturing off to the North Pole, Everest and other hard to reach places have all stocked up here before setting off. Others diving in the Red Sea or the Glacial Fjords of Iceland have been equipped through ourselves. Students on J1 visas or Australian work permits have all been looked after before heading off on their travels. No matter how big your adventure, it's still your adventure and we have always strived to make that adventure the best possible one. We hope that anyone who enjoys "the Outdoor Life" will find much to interest them both in our shop and on our site. We have built our reputation on our great brand ranges and the experienced and qualified staff that we employ. All of the staff are outdoors' people and have as much interest in adventure as our customers do.

Disappointed
I ordered my Meindl trail shoes on October 10. Shoe not true to size, would have been perfect if the size was as stated. Left shoe fits perfectly but my right shoe has my toes curled up at the top. I’ve tried wearing them in but it’s not working. For the price I expected a better fit, and I will certainly not be wearing these on a Camino walk.
While the shoe is wide fitting, I would advise buyers to order one size bigger.
I award 3 stars for great communication after ordering and quick delivery.

Excellent Customer Service
Received a present of a Tilley hat purchased online. Unfortunately the wrong size. Went into Georges St shop to change. Very helpful assistant (Laura) looked after me, gave me store credit on a gift card as they didn't have the correct size in stock. Couldn't have been more helpful.

Great customer service when returning faulty shoes
Bought a pair of Hoka Anapacas for a five day hike in the alps. Had great service when trying on different shoes with Ian, who shared his time and knowledge while I was deciding. Later when the shoes turned out to be faulty, I was able to return these to the shop who refunded me the total amount for the shoes. This was more complicated as I no longer live in Dublin, but Nathan was very gracious over email and responsive. I will buy from Great Outdoors again, and would recommend this company for their great customer service to anyone.
