Bought a tin of Cuprinol Shades Silver Birch to do my shed about 3 mths ago. The paint was fine and went on well and i was pleased with the result. Closed and resealed the tin properly and stored it in the garage (not in freezing cold temperatures) and i went to use it again today and the paint has gone all thin like water and not fit for purpose. Its not cheap and feel like it was a complete waste of money
Used this paint for years on exterior wood, loved it. Just used a new can and thought it was a dodgy batch, really runny and watery no like it used to be. Actually thought maybe some water has gone in the can can’t think what they have done to this once lovely quality paint.
I previously bought some Cuprinol paint for the fence and was disappointed with it. It was extremely watery and dripped everywhere, staining the path and gravel. It faded over the winter and needed another coat in spring. It wasn't expensive so wasn't too disappointed. However, I recently bought a can of the Cuprinol Shades to paint the shed. The first coat looked absolutely horrendous. The paint wouldn't spread evenly and had many areas and patches where you could see the underlying wood. I then applied a second coat as instructed on the label, and still got a load of patches where the paint just wouldn't stick to the wood. I applied a third coat, and although it looks rraso, there are still areas on the shed where you can see the underlying wood. From a distance it looks okay but close up it looks very shabby. Very disappointed in this product. I will probably have to buy another can of it and apply a 4th and possibly 5th layer but I certainly won't be buying any cuprinol paint again after that.
Not fit for purpose. Wish I had read these reviews but I had imagined if I bought a recognised product to cover my wood it would do what it says on the tin.
NOT. NOT even close.
Dreadful stuff.
First rain and it all slipped off.
Should be recalled.
Cuprinol 9l ducksback silver corpse £22 in b&q (dont buy) painted in dry conditions 2 weeks ago and when it rains paint goes wet again and all running off hands covered in paint on gate coming in garden weeks later after painting
waste of time and money not fit for purpose and should be recalled not happy
Doesn’t even deserve a one star rating in my opinion. Bought 20 litres rich cedar Ducksback for fencing and decking. Prepared and applied as instructed. Dried fully after 12 hours and initially I was pleased. Rained 3 days after application and it ran like wet paint. Living room carpet almost ruined by dog after going out! His paws are still a cedar shade! Gravel boards all now have an orangey tinge. Never experienced anything like it.
Now spent the last 2 days pressure washing it all off! Furious doesn’t even come close.
I will never ever use any Cuprinol products again and I won’t recommend them either.
IF I COULD GIVE NO STARS I WOULD,
contacted dulux aka cuprinol. and they said ive painted 210£ worth of paint just on untreated wood it was all fully sanded i spent 2 weeks doing it all. also states i shouldnt have used on decking, but states it can be used on all outdoor wood products just feel being fobbed off, they better either refund me or at least send me new paint im not happy,.!!
I've used Cuprinol Colour Shades for a number of years now. So on a recent project I bought 'Silver Birch' at £22 for 2.5L. What on earth have Cuprinol done with this product?? It's so watery with a lack of pigment it can only be described as rubbish now. This once great garden paint, two coats would cover anything has gone right down the pan!! If this is their idea of quality they need a 're think. It's no good selling a product that you have to spend lots of money on that won't do the job. No matter how many coats Cuprinol may advise you might have to use, to cover rough sawn timber, at £22 its nothing short of daylight robbery in it's current form. Don't buy it!! Cuprinol fix the problem, this paint doesn't even stick to the tin like it used too.
Bought Ducksback Silver Copse to repaint summer house previously painted with Cuprinol Willow. A waste of time and money. I’ll never use it again. Watery, runny, poor coverage, streaky when dried. I’m an experienced DIYer and know what I’m doing. Never again. Haven’t bothered complaining to Cuprinol because other reviews say Customer Service unhelpful.
It would be a minus10 if possible - dreadful company to deal with. One coat?? It needed more coats than Josephs technicolour dream coat. Can you imagine how difficult applying one coat (as promised) is - when you’re disabled?
Called to complain and ask for a refund, don’t waste your time. Unable to refund me because I didn’t keep the empty cans so couldn’t give stock no although I could produce invoice/receipt.
I’m disabled I explained and when my daughter comes to take the stuff to the tip - off it goes!
Shame on you Cuprinol
Totally diluted compared to the same paint I bought 2 years ago! One can spend days on a panel with layers on end!
Rip off
Cuprinol Fence sprayer is not fit for purpose. Bought sprayable cuprinol fence stain and blocked in 5 mins and continued to be useless cleaning the nozzle all the time. Resorted to brush after the sprayer exploded on opening looked like a yetti as silver copse colour. No response from their website what a surprise
Cuprinol Ultimate Wood Preserver is as watery as other reviews say - but Cuprinol tell me that’s so it soaks in, to preserve from inside & last longer - not just coat the outside of the wood. They also say using a bigger brush with finer bristles will help to hold the liquid & reduce drips. Would help if they said so on the tin!
So I’ll persevere….
Cuprinol Non Slip Decking Stain. Yes its non slip but everything sticks to it. Impossible to clean. I had previously used oil to protect my deck and after 16 years decided to switch to a non slip 'paint'. I sanded my deck thoroughly and applied 3 coats of this stain over a 4/5 days period. Did not walk on it for about 5 days and the minute we moved a patio chair the pain chipped. Our dog is old and the deck is chipped everywhere from him walking on it. Even the handrails are chipping. I spoke to cuprinol customer service who told me that the product is not suitable for a deck that has previously been oiled even if sanded as" you never get all the oil out of the wood". This is not stated on the tin and the salesman who sold it to me never mentioned it. The product is actually non slip but everything sticks to it. Dog hair, fluff. It never looks clean. I'm so disappointed as it's not a cheap product. It's also a lot of work to treat a deck and the result is shabby. Cuprinol advised me to sand the the whole thing again on and only use oil. As I used a black stain it will be nearly impossible to get it all off. I was offered a discount on the oil but I will never buy a cuprinol product again.
Update I just used the left over stain on a small decking area that had been treated with" Fencelife" a year ago. Same story, the minute I walked on it the stain came off.
I bought a can of Cuprinol natural stone fence/shed paint, what a mistake.
The paint was so watery, it dripped everywhere at £35.00 a can it is a rip off. It makes a job harder, longer and not enjoyable using such a poor quality paint.
I had used Wilko's fence paint previously, which is thick, good quality and £17.00 cheaper! I only bought the Cuprinol because Wilko was out of the equivalent colour and I assumed this would be a good paint, plus I needed to get a job done, how wrong was I.
I would recommend people to avoid Cuprinol paint and buy Wilko's. Cuprinol have a cheek charging so much for poor, poor quality.
UPDATE.
I complained about the paint to Cuprinol (Dulux), they responded within a day, I explained the problem, after sending a picture of the barcode they have sent a voucher for a 5lt can of paint.
5* for the resolving my complaint very quickly.
BE AWARE! If you use Ultimate Wood Preserver and then try to give it another coat next year IT WILL NOT ADHERE to the previous surface. According to Cuprinol telephone advice this is due to wax content and I must sand down the garage before giving it another coat (it's 30'x12'). They also say I should have been aware of this because it says on the tin it has a wax content. When I explained that I didn't have a Masters degree in Paint Technology and that it was reasonable for me to expect the same product to adhere to itself, he just repeated, it says it has wax on the tin, you need to sand it down. Not Happy.
This shade is a lot darker than expected. More dark grey than the expected ‘silver’. Online every photo shows a slightly different shade. I think it needs renaming. Good coverage though. Stays on the brush well.
Gutted.
Spent 2 days painting the fence. It looked amazing until it rained.
Now it looks bloody awful and I need to start again with another make 😞
I wish I could add a photo to this review.
