I’m making a formal complaint about the way my insurance quote and monthly payments have been handled.
I initially went online and obtained a quote from Zenith Insurance. The quote was around £700, which worked out at approximately £56–£57 per month. I was happy with that price, but because I’m 58 and I’m not particularly confident dealing with insurance online, I decided to phone you and arrange the policy directly.
When I spoke to your representative, I understood that I was agreeing to the price I had been quoted, and I was happy to proceed. I then paid for the insurance.
However, I was subsequently told that the policy would not actually start until 14 October. I was then shocked to find that my monthly payments had increased from around £56–£57 to nearly £80 per month.
I do not understand why the price has changed so significantly after I had already received the quote, contacted you specifically to arrange the insurance, and paid for the policy.
I also want to point out that I had difficulty understanding the person I spoke to on the telephone. I was not given a clear explanation that delaying the start date until 14 October would result in such a substantial increase in my monthly payments. I should not be financially disadvantaged simply because I had difficulty understanding the information given to me over the phone.
From my point of view, I agreed to the insurance based on the original price I was given. If the price was going to increase from approximately £56–£57 to nearly £80 per month, this should have been made absolutely clear to me before I paid for the policy.
I am therefore asking you to review this matter and honour the original quoted price, or provide me with a clear explanation as to why the price has increased so substantially.
If this cannot be resolved, I will seriously consider cancelling the policy within the cancellation period and taking my insurance elsewhere. It would make more financial sense for me to pay the cancellation charge than to continue paying almost £20 more every month than the price I originally agreed to.
I am extremely unhappy with the way this has been handled. I do not feel that I have been treated fairly, and I would like this complaint properly investigated and resolved.
