Aggressive Debt Collection Based on No Verified Evidence

UK Search Limited pursued me for a debt that I did not owe and had no legal responsibility for. The account in question was passed to them by Affinity Water, who had wrongly assigned my name to a property account without verifying any tenancy, council tax record, electoral registration, or bill in my name.

Despite being given full proof that I had no financial or legal ties to the alleged debt — including confirmation from the local council that I was never a tenant or liable party at the address in question — UK Search Limited proceeded to chase payment. Their involvement caused unnecessary stress, reputational damage, and serious concerns about data privacy and due diligence.

They have now “closed” the case after extensive pressure, but have refused to issue an apology, compensation, or clear proof that all my data has been erased from their systems and their partners, such as CARS.

This experience was deeply distressing. UK Search Limited must be investigated for unethical practices and data handling breaches. If you’re in a similar situation, I strongly recommend escalating immediately to the Financial Ombudsman or ICO. This company should not be allowed to operate without accountability.

Terrible company!!

Terrible company!!! Contacted me 2 years ago stating I owed £2000 to southern water for an address I lived at when I was a minor, contacted them as I have never had an account with southern water, as why would I, being a minor. To make things even more hilarious the property they are talking about got vacated in 2019 and demolished in 2020 and it is now a field/park. Spoke to a man on the phone 2 years ago and he laughed when I told him it was a field and said it would be sorted. Had a letter through yesterday stating I now owe £4000 and there is still water being used at the property. Laughing stock. Now I have to waste my own time to prove to them I didn’t live there at this time as they won’t take the property being demolished and no longer there as good enough evidence. Ridiculous.

I wish these dodgy af scammers would…

I wish these dodgy af scammers would leave me alone and stop threatening me about owing money. I’ve spoken to Affinity water who I do owe money to and already have a payment plan in place and they’ve said these people are scammers and to ignore. Bit hard when then text, email and phone everyday! I’ve tried phoning back but no answer. No idea how they got all my details. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR SH!T

This company is a scam call centre…

This company is a scam call centre operating as a debt collection agency , but calling numbers and leaving voice mail saying it is urgent they speak to you, If you call them you will get a BS about how unless you give them your details they cant talk to you under the data protection act, when in fact they are the ones breaching the code of conduct ! OFCOM needs to shut them down ASAP !

They been terrorising me for over the year. This scammers will start chase money and leave record in your credit file without asking any evidence from they called custome, basically you just need to say that someone owns you money and their bandits will start terror immediately, I am really happy that you been sending all of this emails and letter , plus phone calls for nothing. Ad I said you won't get a penny from me . Cheap scammers.

Phishing Tactics

As per previous reviews I was wrongly accused of attaining a debt for the period September 2024 to January 2025 from a property I vacated in 2021. UK search Limited acting on behalf of E-On Next wrongly applied my name to this debt and when I engaged in conversation with them about it I had to prove to them that I didn’t reside at the address.

Having to make several phones calls to my local council including council tax and electoral roll it was determined that I stopped paying council tax to the property in question in April 2021 and had been registered to vote at my current address since May 2021 which was confirmed in writing to me.

A further call was made to E-On next complaints department who confirmed that I have never had an account with them.

As a pointer for anyone who may have contact from this company, remember that your driving licence and car insurance must correlate to your current address otherwise your insurance will become null and void

@UK Search Limited can you confirm what due diligence you complete before attaching names to debts? if you had conducted a basic search of any kind you would have found out the information about my status and not attached the debt in my name.

Regardless, you should not go Phishing as this causes undue stress to anyone receiving a letter from you, it should not be my responsibility to discount the debt against my name as this should be your duty to prove that the debt relates to me

Furthermore. I am considering raising this with my local MP and contacting the financial ombudsmen due to your failure to complete comprehensive due diligence and your bullying tactics

Chasing me for someone else's debt

Constantly calling and texting me from 2 different numbers about someone else's debt with affinity water. I have never had an account with affinity water and I am not the person who they named on a text message. I've tried telling them this but it makes no difference, I've blocked their numbers but I can still see when they try to call.

Wrongly pursued for a debt I never owed - still no accountability

I was wrongly pursued by UK Search Limited for an alleged energy debt relating to a property I vacated in 2015. The debt, however, was dated 2022 — years after I had left and settled all accounts.

Despite repeatedly explaining the situation, I was pressured to provide old tenancy agreements, council tax bills, and personal documents — things I’m under no legal obligation to produce. I was treated as guilty until proven innocent.

To make matters worse, the original creditor (E.ON) confirmed in writing that I was never a customer for the period in question and that UK Search Limited had acquired my personal data through their own "searches."

Throughout this process, UK Search Limited continued to:

Pursue me with no verified basis,

Fail to act on clear evidence and my Data Subject Access Request (DSAR),

Cause weeks of emotional stress, anxiety, and wasted time,

Refuse to acknowledge or apologise for their handling of the matter.

This has had a lasting emotional impact on me and my family. I’ve now been forced to pursue legal action to seek compensation for the distress caused and the unlawful use of my personal data.

If you are contacted by this company in error, be aware of your rights — you do not have to prove your innocence, and they must have lawful grounds to process and pursue your information. In my case, they did not.

I would strongly caution others about their practices and handling of sensitive personal data.

These people are scammers

These people are scammers. Please do not engage in communication with them. They claim we are in debt to affinity water when all payments are up to date. They ask for proof of this which is absolutely ridiculous.

Ref 3734967. I just emailed this outfit. They are chasing a "debt" for an online learning course my son did not receive. He changed his mind and has not had access to the course after doing this. He has not completed the course and only had access for a week for a course supposed to last a year. I run a debt charity and dont like the threats included in their correspondence. Watch out UK search. Check your facts before you harass my son.

Chancers

Sent me a letter stating that I owed £912.52 for a debt to Southern Water Services. It states from.2014 to 2019. I left that property in 2017. I told them this and they asked me for proof. I told them it is up to them to find the proof that I was living there during that time and too see them.in court.

Disgusting customer service

I have an agreement with this company to pay on the 28th yet they take payment out on different days then call me up using 0 customer service skills saying my duty to do to .... when its them in breach of contract if you taking payment out on day agreed you will get your payment. This company talks to customer like they are a priority debt when they are not. For me they are working inconjuntion with learn direct. I have recording of calls from them. When I clearly state I am vulnerable disabled and live hand to mouth £30 all i can afford and to take payment 28th the reason for this is 28th is when I am paid. If you have dealing with this company record everything. Message to this company another negative comment to go along with uour many others. I strongly advise you to retrain your staff on a customer service 2 contract law

How can they have 100 years experience…

How can they have 100 years experience when they were established in 2004 they keep contacting me when another company is dealing with the debt and gave me a good payment plan that works for me
Is this a joke you give the same reply to every one I think your company need to learn how to treat people. How to have got clients to collect debts is beyond me get a training and sensibility class.

I keep getting different reference numbers through text messages the company is a joke

Unreasonable company

Unreasonable company, won't accept payment plan regardless of situation and hung up on me

Well unfortunately for you looks like you won't be getting a penny
Also will be reporting this company today, I have never heard of any 'debt company that wants to help" and yet don't accept a payment plan

Update.. i contacted the company who debt was actually owed to, they've taken back my account and I've told them what happened and hopefully they won't use this company in future

If I could give it no stars I would! Horrible bullies with no compassion or empathy! Making someone feel even lower than they already were and I am TRYING! Very incompetent and suspicious

Very incompetent! I've dealt with debt collectors before for a parking fine I owed and they were professional and had evidence. However, this company did not have any evidence. They just intimidated me with emails and letters. Although I was a tenant and the Eon bill should've been sent to the landlady, it came to me. They wouldn't accept an old council tax and dated bank statements with my name and address on them stating bank statements aren't evidence??! For weeks, I was very stressed and I contacted eon directly who told me I do not owe them any money. So, where these people came from is very, very suspicious and they need to be looked into. My advice is if you are certain you don't owe the company money, contact them directly, do not pay these people because they will try EVERYTHING to get your money

Unprofessional and shady

Called and asked for a reference I didn’t have. Asked me to confirm my address which I wasn’t comfortable doing as explained that had no correspondence. Requested email to confirm who they were but told me they couldn’t do anything before going through verification asked to speak to a manager but told me they wouldn’t do that and hung up on me. Weirdest debt collecting process I’ve ever heard of…

Tried to chase me for a payment I had already paid for, they had no proof at all that the payment was not paid and yet accused me of ignoring communications that were not sent. Absolutely pathetic

This company is totally incompetent acting for totally incompetent Utility Suppliers.
GIVE THEM NOTHING - they work on frightening and pressurising tactics bombarding folks with threatening letters , emails and phone calls.
The only ones I use are the letters for the kids to scribble on them.
