Believe it or not
Believe it or not, this has just happened to me this week. Bought an Audi A6 from SERE Lisburn in February 2020. Car has been back in a garage 5 times since then, 3 times with the same fault. Three times the car has been fixed under the year’s warranty. The Audi has a dangerous, intermittent issue that causes the car to go into limp mode. I supplied SERE with video evidence of this occurring, however both SERE and Audi have been unable to get the fault to reproduce. For the last 5+ weeks I’ve been driving a courtesy car from SERE. This had to be returned yesterday. Everyone within SERE (including the MD) is aware of the dangerous nature of this fault, although they’ve been unable to reproduce it. The Sales Director, who I appreciate is operating with the parameters given to him has given me two options: 1. Trade the car in (for £4000 less than the finance amount outstanding) and buy another car (morally I can’t trade the vehicle in elsewhere) 2. Take back a car that’s clearly a danger to myself, my family and other road users - which SERE are fully aware of. Also explained to the Service Manager that, after speaking to my Insurance Broker, there could be implications on my insurance cover as I know the car is unsafe. Left the courtesy car back yesterday under instruction, obviously couldn’t drive away in a dangerous car, so was forced walked away with no transport, and no resolution in sight. Absolutely shameful - genuinely hope that this doesn’t happen to any other potential SERE customer.

Good morning Mr Rainey, we appreciate you following up on the issue with your Audi car. However, our team at SERE and the Audi garage as you mentioned have looked into the issue a number of times yet haven’t been able to find the fault. We understand you have covered over 16,000 miles in nine months which would indicate it has provided considerable use. SERE has test drove the vehicle extensively and could not replicate the fault. A second opinion was sought from an Audi franchise garage; again, no fault was diagnosed or found. The vehicle was delivered with a twelve-month warranty, and if an electrical or mechanical fault is diagnosed, it will be fixed free of charge under warranty. If you believe SERE or Audi have not been diligent in its attempts to find the reported fault, SERE will pay for any VAT registered garage to diagnose and repair the vehicle under warranty.
SERE will also repurchase or take the vehicle in part exchange, at a price that reflects your period of ownership and mileage covered. Our Sales Director outlined these options, and we believe we have exceeded our statutory obligations. SERE is a family business which prides itself on outstanding customer service but on a very rare occasion may disappoint. SERE is a member of the motor trade ombudsman and abides fully to their code of practice. Thank you for returning your courtesy car and we hope the car doesn’t present any issues going forward.
