Shocking service
Shocking service. My mother sadly passed away last year and had her house in trust with Mc Clures. I received a phone call last year to explain that one of the solicitors (Shirley Houlihan) who is one of the solicitors on my mother’s trust no longer works there as a practising solicitor. She had been signing off trusts with no issues, until she apparently just decided she wouldn’t sign off the trusts unless she got £300 for her signature. Mc Clures didn’t agree with this and said she is being taken to court because this is not best practice. I also spoke to two other solicitors who said that doesn’t sound right. So I declined the offer to pay Shirley Houlihan. Look her up she is all over the papers. I can’t get an update as every time I email the solicitor is always on annual leave. I know Mc Clures has been taken over by Jones Whyte, so I got through to the phone with them which was great, but apparently anyone who was dealing with my case would still be the person dealing with it. So I’m no further forward 16months after my mum has passed and I’m left paying all the bills for my Mothers house because I can’t sell it as it’s in trust. I don’t think it’s fair that I need to pay for a house that I can’t sell because of a solicitor who is clearly trying to make money off of grieving families.

Ref: 136664 - Shocking Service and Distressing Experience
My late mother placed her house in a Family Protection Trust with McClure Solicitors, supposidly for her and her family's peace of mind and this has been far from true. When she sadly passed, from the onset (Pandemic/Lockdown or not) as one of the named Trustees on the Trust and the executor of my late mother's will, I was not impressed with the level of service provided. I had to do a lot of chasing to make contact with McClure Solicitors, which was very rare. In addition, to move things forward due to lack of communication or support I made all the arrangements to put my mother's house on the market for sale. Furthermore, McClure's were only used for the conveyancing, because the origional conveyancer very early on reaslised it could end up costing the family much more than the conveyancing fee itself, with the (lack of) information that I was able to provide, forward to them in regards to the documentation needed and the transfering of funds to the Trust once the house was sold.
Well the house was sold on April 2021 and the funds paid into the Trust for distribution to the beneficiaries as per my Mother's wishes. Two weeks before McClure Solicitors went into administration (something that I found out about on-line 3 weeks ago on 6th May 2021 when no contact could be made). My brother had informed me that he could not make contact with the person dealing with the Trust and when he did get through it was another company that was announced on the answer machine. This alarmed me, so I went on-line to investigate and discovered that McClure Solicitors had gone into administration and had been acquired by Jones Whyte the week before.
Consequently, I contacted Jones Whyte immediately, who took information from me and on the following day, the 7th May 2021, the person who had been dealing with the Trust from McClure Solicitors, now working for Jones Whyte (I hope) contacted me and reasuured me that everything is in hand, but is it?
Once the house was sold, everything appeared to be proceeding as it should be, the right questions were being asked, the information that was requested was provided, then communication just stopped abruptly and now I know why.
When contact was made on 7th May 2021 I requested an e-mail, confirmation in writing regarding the proceeds of the sale of the house and the distribution of funds to the beneficiaries - information on the administration of the Trust - especially as I am aware that the Estate Agent was paid their fee and the amount that should be deducted for conveyancing, the only amounts to be deducted from that sale of the house, as there are no other bills oustanding. However, that email never arrived.
Consequently, I contacted Jones Whyte directly a week later rasing my concerns and my contact details were taken and I was told that someone will be in touch, but I am still waiting to be contacted. In addition, I e-mailed the contact person who was dealing with the Trust (after working out their contact details at Jones Whyte as I have not been given any Jones Whyte contact details for them); all I received was an automatic reply with information regarding McClure being acquired by Jones Whyte. Furthermore, I have sent information to Jones Whyte via an enquiry form and still nothing.
Distressing and now frantic is an understatement, from the level of disservice to date, which has and continues to be shocking and very worrying.
The worst of experiences at a time when…
The worst of experiences at a time when you are grieving. It is now resolved, but it took a lot of phone calls, emails to a director and support from St James Place who held the Trust.
I would not recommend them to anyone, setting up may be straightforward but your executors experience won’t be.
Discretionary Trust
Further to my last input on a discretionary trust,
I have made contact with Andrew and significant improvements have been made.
My thanks to Andrew

Appalling service
Appalling service. If there was a zero star I'd give them that ! I am the executor of my Dad's estate who died almost 2 yeas ago. McClues had family Trusts in place for both my parents. I contacted them on the point of my Dads death and then heard nothing, and chased several times. Turns out person who was dealing with it had left and it was just sitting. Contacted them and asked to get things back. They would release things because they hadn't done anything ( and thee wasn't much money in it for them to sort) The documents were supposedly in a storage building and would take about 7-10 days to post out. That was 4 months ago. My recommendation don't use for anything like this. The last thing people need during bereavement and difficult times is hassle upon hassle and dealing with people who don't care and have no interest other than getting paid and viewingyou as a very insignificant number of no relevance. I'm not impressed at all, and even with new owners would never use them or any financial advisor who puts you their way. Anyone who has this sort of product with them for your own piece of mind, review it before you have to deal this them for real.

Let down yet again by the dreadful client service of this company.
As the executor of my late mother's estate I should be told what is going on. I was advised that disbursements and expenses would be received this week and they haven't. Have tried contacting the person we were dealing with and no reply to email. You call and everything is voicemail and people don't get back to you.
Then again, I'm only a client so, based on past performance of this department, I obviously don't deserve proper customer service.Tjey've got their fees so they are happy.
No wonder they went into administration and the company that took them over - Jones Whyte - don't seem to think it important enough to contact clients directly either and we can wait even longer now to get things resolved. "As soon as possible" is their message even though the same staff are dealing with the cases.
Not good enough.

Customer service? - What service
As a client of McClure's, I phoned them seeking some Legal Advice. Their pre recorded voicemail said due to Covid no-one was in their Office. That's understandable. ''Leave a voicemail with your details and we'll get back to you''. which I did. No response so I left a further message - still no response. With service like that no wonder they went bust. Business acumen to turn down business? - zero. Courtesy? - somewhere below zero.

McClure will writing service
My husband and I used McClure’s will writing service. We found the entire process to be incredibly simple in spite of all the implications of Covid-19. We were able to complete everything from home without any problem. Our adviser Peter Harrison explained everything to us in a professional but friendly way. We would definitely use McClure Solicitors again and would recommend them to family and friends.
The service that we received from McClures is respect of Wills
The service that we received from McClures was excellent. Their staff were exceptionally professional and helpful, offering to schedule virtual meetings at the most convenient time for our family, often much later than normal working hours to accommodate our own working schedules. The entire process was made very simple and straightforward. Whether communicating by telephone or email we always received a prompt response.
Such a Lack of Care for My Mother's Estate
I have become so disappointed with McClure's. The manner in which my Mother's estate has been handled has been extremely poor. Nothing complex about the case but the process has been so lengthy and contact has been terrible. As a client I find it terrible when an organisation break promises of getting in touch and then when chased they just ignore the calls or emails and don't respond. Very poor, they are certainly not experts when it comes to customer care. My advice would be to avoid and use a smaller more caring organisation that treats the clients cases with respect and professionalism and allows their staff time to deal with a manageable workload.

Am becoming so frustrated with this company. Second time I have had to deal with an estate through them. Over a year since the start of proceedings. Case has been handled by many different agents. Have had to call and write so many times to ask who or what was causing the most recent hold-up. I e-mailed last Monday asking who the independent assessors were as I am waiting on their fee. No reply to date . I did have one voice contact with someone who said they would ask the latest person dealing with the case to contact me. Sadly I have had to revert to leaving another voicemail.

So upset with this company
So upset with this company, I know that Covid has caused problems and I understand this. My father past away in February 2020, of which I instantly contacted McClure to arrange an appointment which was organised for late March of that year, paperwork regarding probate I returned instantly in June so as not to cause delay. after many emails most of which went unanswered probate was granted in March of this year, even with the probate office stating that they only had a delay of 8 weeks. No notices have been placed in the Gazette. I plan to contact my fathers banks on Monday to see if they have received the grant of probate. As you can understand I am very frustrated as they state on their website and in person that they aim to get everything sorted in 6 months. My farther didn’t own property so this should be a straight forward case. Unlike my mum who did and I handled that myself and took less time. But my dad saw the stress it caused if only he know that this company would cause me more stress

I have been trying to get in touch with McClures with very little success. Six messages left and no response. They do not return your calls and in my opinion customer care is pitiful. Please think twice before using them.
McClure great service, easy to understand
My husband and I recently used McClure Sols will making service. Despite this being in the middle of the covid crisis and so all having to be done on line we found the service excellent. Appointments were all on line and always on time, the service was friendly yet professional and as first timers to will writing everything was explained to us really well. All appointments were confirmed prior via a telephone call or email and the communication was fantastic.
Following our experience and recommendation, my parents have also used McClure for the same service.

Making a will during lockdown
I contacted McClure solicitors having seen their offer on the St Oswald’s Hospice website to make wills free of charge and to give a donation to the hospice. This coincided with my wanting to make a new will and, even though I no longer live in the North East, I was keen to support St Oswald’s.
Following subsequent and very helpful conversations with Irene McKenzie, I chose to pursue an alternative to a standard will.
Having discovered McClure’s via St Oswald’s, it may still be logical for me to use the company again even though I don’t live locally. In fact the past year of lockdowns and increased use of virtual meetings means that the physical location of service providers such as yourself may be less important than before.
The only observation I’d make is that the process of drafting, confirming, witnessing signatures and receiving a signed copy of my document did seem unduly protracted – especially as it wasn’t especially complex. Also, It would have been helpful to have been told how long each stage was going to take rather than my having to chase up this information en route.
