I came here to badly review elephant…

I came here to badly review elephant but after actually seeing their whole review history is a joke. This company must be shutdown. What an embarrassment for the whole Admiral Group, Yes Admiral and Elephant are both the same group and worthless to deal with. I had to cancel my policy due to their incompetent/ lack of services, their exorbitant prices charging me £1500/month, when I'm paying now £600 plus much more protection and benefits than ever before. If you ever be in an accident, good luck, you must get a lawyer. Total avoid them

Utterly Disgraceful.

My teenage son was hit by a car in February 2025. He was admitted to hospital with a head injury, bleeding, and amnesia. Elephant Insurance, who represent the driver, have refused to even respond to any correspondence from our solicitor for over five months.

No contact. No investigation. No liability decision. Nothing.

Even now, with a formal 14-day warning issued by our legal team and criminal charges brought against the driver, they remain silent.

In my opinion, this is a company that does not care about victims, follows no professional standards, and is actively obstructive. Avoid at all costs.

Positive experience

Had a positive experience today with Elephant today.
Rang to compare renewal quotes and was fixed up with a new quote that matched my quote from a comparison site. Lovely polite efficient service from Caius. Thank you!

Avoid Elephant Insurance – Unethical Practices

I had an accident and didn’t even make a claim on my own vehicle, yet Elephant Insurance told me they were cancelling my policy. Strangely, the following year they tried to automatically renew my insurance without my knowledge. Their emails ended up in my spam folder, so I never saw any notice or communication.

Despite not agreeing to or using any new policy, they referred the matter to a debt collection agency, without so much as a phone call, which resulted in a negative default on my credit file. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour.

Stay well clear of these crooks — their shady practices have long-term consequences.

If I could leave 0 stars I would.
I cancelled my insurance policy as I sold my car. I contacted elephant on the website to cancel but called them to clarify when the last payment would be. I was told the last payment would be 1st June. The money came out of the account no issues before I cancelled the direct debit.
I have been away for a while caring for a family member thinking this was all resolved when I got a text message on 4th July from a debt collection agency saying I owed admin and cancellation fees. A massive total of £34.11 that elephant felt needed to go to a debt collection agency.
I spoke to elephant who denied the fact I called to clarify saying there was "no record of my call"
I asked why nobody called me to inform me I owed money and I was told that "elephant policy is that we don't call, we do all by email"
Very concerning and unprofessional practice if you are elderly or not IT savvy
I ensured that I checked everything was above board before I paid.
I will never use this company again.
I have no issues paying the money if it's owed. I am so angry that I checked and clarified and then my personal details were shared with a debt collection agency. Shameful.
Wish I read the rest of the reviews on here before I used them. Husband is now cancelling his policy with them. No trust in them at all
Also the company they use for debt collection was identified as spam so I would really recommend that if this happens to you call elephant and get verification as it seems the company they use do not have a good reputation at all either

Shambles

After being with Elephant for YEARS, my insurance doubled (without any warning/notice).

Website and chat function now takes ages to get on to. If it loads at all. Awful compared to previous phone helpline.

Even when I cancelled, then was refunded (some of) the charge and assured I didn’t need to do anything else, one month later the money was taken again. When I went back and checked the the previous payment had been cancelled, yet I was refunded.

So I now have no account. Have since cancelled the DD at my end. And now owe them the refunded money back. What a shambolic system.

Avoid Elephant. Nothing like the service it used to provide, at literally double the price.

+5year customer.

I’ve been with elephant for several years now. I had a lapse in insurance policies and lost my no claims but I’ve still always found their prices competitive so I returned to them last year.

I’ve had just had my 1st renewal and it’s approx £250 less that last year, I’ve also recently had some big expenditures and didn’t have the full amount for a one-time payment so they’ve given me a 14day extension which is very helpful too.

Diabolical company

I cancelled my insurance because it was expensive and turned my auto renewal off . I receive a letter saying that I owe £60 for cancellation and £102.80 for a extension on the insurance i didn't ask for !! They just decided to extend it for a month !!
Shocking behaivour .

Scammers

I cancelled my insurance because it was unreasonably expensive. I didn't receive a single letter about it. And I cancelled it one month earlier in advance to be on time and not overpay. In the end, I receive a letter saying that I owe them my usual monthly payment. They say on the phone that it wasn't monthly insurance, but a loan. I ask them to send me all the information by letter. They send me a text saying that I owe £60 for cancellation. I write in the chat and then it turns out that, strangely, I got insurance with them a day before I bought the car!!! And for that day I owe them the full cost of the insurance for the month. Don't contact them, especially since it's Admiral, just under a different name.

Avoid

Avoid. Cancelling a very expensive car insurances renewal was (purposely) made VERY difficult. Website won't let me. Online chat kept repeating asking me how much the better quote was. I politely told them I have purchased it, but they insisted I told me before I could cancel. They look desperate, not a good sign for an insurance company.

The worst insurance company!!

The worst insurance company!!! They automatically raised the price!!! 1st year paid 708.06 after new price 915.00!!! (no any acident) next year NCD. When I said I was resigning, the price dropped by 678.32 I know why there are so many negative opinions. Never agine Elephat !!!! RIP OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone read what I wrote? The same car the next year without an accident. You yourself raised the price!!! And when I said thank you for the cooperation, then suddenly much cheaper! For me you are a hypocritical insurance company.!!!!

As well as rating on your personal information and driving history, we do rate on UK wide claims statistics, such as claims in your area, claims over the UK for the type of cars you drive, and the cost of these claims to us as an insurer. Great experience

I can only say that I have positive experience with this company. I got my driving test last year and elephant offered me insurance for very reasonable price. The whole process was very easy and I managed to get my car insured quickly. I have been with elephant for one year now and I had no issue. However I have decided to go to a different company, only because I wanted to be with the same company as my family. I rang elephant, told them that I do not wish to renew my policy. The lady on the phone was really nice, sorted everything out and sent me all the relevant documents I needed. I was surprised how quick and easy it was.

The only problem I can think of is the mobile app. It does not work properly, so maybe the app needs to be fixed

Shahin was absolutely amazing to speak…

Shahin was absolutely amazing to speak to about our renewal price for a multi-cover policy. He spoke very clearly and the conversation was very efficient as a result- we got all the information we needed and he showed no annoyance when we may not have had details to hand! Great customer service

Avoid them. Wish I had read reviews here before.

I hit a cyclist who was riding in the wrong direction on a one-way street. My car was barely moving, and the cyclist was actually pushed off balance—that is all. I was not planning to make a claim for a few scratches on my car, yet the insurance company have already put me at fault, even though the other party was a "law-breaking, unpredictable cyclist" who broke all the traffic rules there ever were. I wish I had read these reviews before insuring with them. What a scam! They should expect a legal action from me if the other party tries to claim and they decide that I am at fault. Avoid at all costs!

The worst insurance provider you can choose from I had a conviction and I put the correct details in but somehow it was the wrong date on the system so I called up today to correct it and they’re saying my insurance will go up £5000. This is ridiculous Honestly its their fault that they didn’t check before my insurance started.

Really really disappointed

Really really disappointed. Been with this company for 5 years straight and they put my insurance up again this year even though I have 8 years no claims and 0 points on my license. When I called them, they didn’t even try to help me as a loyal customer. The industry standard has dropped in price over the last year yet they still put my price up. Avoid at all costs.

Poor customer service

Could never login to my portal, thankfully never needed to make a claim. When I tried to negotiate renewal premium which was higher than other like for like quote, I was dealing with someone who couldn't speak fluent English and then just went silent when I said I wanted to cancel the renewal. Awful customer service, wouldn't recommend.

Bad app, charge to change license plate.

The app is truly awful. Takes an age to load anything and often crashes.

It's the same app as Admiral, but with a yellow branded skin and much, much worse.

They charged me to change my license plate 😂

I am sorry you have had issues with the App. Administration fees are in place to cover the cost incurred by us to administer a policy when making a change to the policy. Administration fees are very common across most insurers, and we regularly review our fees to ensure they are fair. We try and keep our annual premiums as low as possible, so we don't include the cost to update policies at the start and only apply the charge if you make a change.
