Customer service is absolutely abysmal
Customer service is absolutely abysmal. They just don’t respond to emails. Took me weeks just to make a simple administrative change to my booking. Completed their online web form (which has a restrictively small character allowance), they emailed me for full details. Sent these back and never got a response. Emailed to follow up, no response. Called them, didn’t apologise for not actioning or responding but said they made the change on the call, they hadn’t. Emailed a complaint, no response. Forwarded the complaint to alternative email address, no response. Used web form again to request status of my complaint, they emailed me and asked me to forward them my complaint yet again. Did so, no response. Wasted an hour of my time on their live chat service, again no apology for not having actioned previously but said they’d now done it. Requested written confirmation it had been done and got an email saying “the change you requested has been made” without actually confirming what that change was! Incredibly infuriating overall. Nearly a month, 9 attempts at contact, hours of my time all just to change my name after getting married. Still half expecting to get turned away from my honeymoon because I’ve got no faith my name will be correct.
An excellent cruise line
An excellent cruise line. We have an enjoyed our three itineraries and would say Virgin stands out for food, entertainment and atmosphere. The restaurants are included and are of excellent quality. The entertainment is generally streets ahead of other cruise lines I’ve been on, with a handful of exceptions. Other passengers also make it a pleasant experience. Drinks aren’t cheap but we’re also at the slightly lower end in my experience. The loyalty programme is the best I’ve experienced. The original straightforward pricing structure worked well, I do not understand why they changed to charging gratuities separately because that effectively conceded the straightforward price concept.
We had a great time per usual however…
We had a great time per usual however we did notice some changes on this trip. First of all, we looked the splash of romance, which, on this trip only gave us a box of chocolates, use of the spa facilities, which was average at best, and a bottle of champagne, which I don't drink. On my next trip, I will put that money towards a room upgrade. We also noticed that the staff was not as accommodating, and the sailors were a bit rude. An example being wearing bed wear to the restaurants, bathing suits without coverups to the restaurants, drunken behavior, bringing personal speakers to the pool for everyone to hear. We saw our room attendant, maybe only once or twice and we neever met or saw the captain of the ship.
Prior to our trip, we had difficulty with the app and website, which never was really resolved.
I really hope that with all of the new programs Virgin is implementing to attract more clientele that their quality of service and guidelines remain top-tier. I definitely saw a difference on this trip.
Muy recomendable
Un crucero para vivirlo, sin agobios y con una comida de lujo, toda incluida. Sin olvidar el excelente personal como Yaneth de recepción, sin olvidarme del resto de tripulantes
I would consider traveling on Virgin again
Overall, I had a good experience, but there were a few areas that could be improved.
The food was average and lacked variety. I was also disappointed that there was an additional charge for all seafood dishes except salmon. The pool was quite small for the number of passengers onboard. During the afternoon of one of the "At Sea" days, the pool became overcrowded, and there were even clumps of hair floating in the water, making it less enjoyable.
On the positive side, I appreciated that the cruise was adults-only, which created a more relaxed atmosphere. I also liked that gratuities were included in the overall price, making budgeting easier. My cabin was compact but comfortable, and I especially enjoyed having a balcony. The room attendants provided outstanding service throughout the cruise.
Service in one of the main dining rooms was slower than expected, likely because our server did not have additional support. However, the service from the rest of the crew was excellent. I also appreciated that the buffet was covered for food safety, which was a nice touch. Finally, the booking process was easy and hassle-free.
Despite a few drawbacks, I would consider sailing with Virgin Voyages again.
Worst cruise ever
The service, food and entertainment definitely poor compared to 2 years ago..no help for disabled people at any of the ports. Would never sail Virgin again
First the good
First the good. The ship is beautiful, the crew is extraordinarily well trained, and the food is is an honest 5stars. The Alaskan Inner Passage is simply breathtaking; it was amazing!
Now the bad. Midway through our cruise, we noticed a $269 Spa charge from my sailors app for a “Long cut and blow dry”, which is funny because I am nearly bald! So I went down to Sailor Services, who were very nice and zero helpful, who said that it was booked on my app and that I was the only one who could do that. So I went to the Spa manger, told her my story, showed her my bald head and her reply was that I booked it, I didn’t show up, and that there’s nothing she can do about the charge that I incurred. So essentially, someone at Virgin Voyages quite literally stole $269 from me. It’s not a huge sum of money, but I would have allocated it differently than a hair styling! So Sailors beware, Virgin Voyages have some shady subcontractors who are not above making you pay for their mistakes. We enjoyed our cruise but will be unlikely to sail with them again. Too bad Sir Richard, others are sullying your good name, Sir.
WARNING!!!
Warning to anyone booking with @VirginVoyages: our recent 50th birthday trip on the Valiant Lady was "all fur coat and no knickers." What was supposed to be a luxury celebration was a total disaster.
❌ Hostile Security Incident: My husband was blocked from ordering drinks for 48 hours for an "investigation" we were never explained. We were hauled into three meetings and eventually cleared, but security refused to provide any report or reason for the stress they caused.
❌ Birthday Ruined: I pre-arranged a special 50th birthday cake at The Wake. After a massive wait, they served a "chocolate blob" that looked like a child made it. Truly embarrassing.
❌ Substandard Food & Facilities: The Galley had zero variety, the food was consistently over-salted, and the jacuzzis were filthy with visible green mold and no working bubbles.
❌ Hidden Fees & Rude Staff: From "included" dining that actually has constant upsells to multiple daily bank authorizations we weren't warned about, the lack of transparency is shocking. Staff were dismissive, unhelpful, and at times flat-out rude.
We expected a high-end experience but felt alienated and stressed. @VirginVoyages, we are still waiting for a formal explanation and the security footage of the incident that ruined our holiday. Do better. 🚢⚓️ #VirginVoyages #CruiseFail #ValiantLady #BadService
Good experience
Ship was clean and new looking. Food was tasty and flavorful. Ship offered limited selections of food. Entertainment was fair, not enough quality production shows. Crew was very friendly. TV audio needs improvement.
Beskidt og dårlig rengøring
Beskidt og dårlig rengøring. Maden var elendig. Sløvt og uforstående personale.
Exceptional service from great staff
Exceptional service from great staff, no aspect of our cruise was disappointing and recommend for an inclusive fun filled time.
Penalized for Speaking Up: My First Virgin Voyages Cruise
⭐☆☆☆☆
This was my first cruise, and I chose Virgin Voyages because of its reputation for providing an exceptional experience. I spent months saving and planning for this Alaska voyage, and one of the biggest reasons I booked it was to enjoy the incredible scenery from my Sea Terrace balcony cabin.
Instead, my vacation became one of the most stressful and emotionally exhausting trips I've ever taken.
During the cruise, I experienced repeated racist and homophobic comments from another passenger over the course of more than two days. The situation became serious enough that I reported it to ship security. I appreciate the professionalism of the security team and the crew members who listened to my concerns.
Unfortunately, after reporting the incident, the sailor I was originally rooming with decided he no longer wanted to share the cabin with me. As a result, I was forced to relocate.
What was especially disappointing was being told that moving cabins would cost me approximately $300. I was also downgraded from the Sea Terrace balcony cabin I had specifically chosen and paid for to an interior cabin four decks lower in the middle of the ship.
I understand that Virgin Voyages cannot control the actions of every guest. However, I do not believe that the person who reported inappropriate behavior should be the one who loses the accommodations they paid for or incurs additional costs because of someone else's actions.
Instead of spending my first cruise enjoying Alaska's breathtaking scenery from my balcony, I spent much of my vacation meeting with security, changing cabins, and trying to salvage what remained of my trip. I also lost a friendship of more than 15 years because I chose to speak up rather than stay silent.
I left this cruise feeling disappointed, emotionally drained, and like the vacation I had invested so much time and money into was taken away from me.
I have contacted Virgin Voyages directly and hope they will make this right by reimbursing the relocation costs and providing compensation—ideally a Future Voyage Credit that allows me to experience Alaska the way I originally booked it: in a Sea Terrace balcony cabin.
I truly wanted my first Virgin Voyages experience to make me a lifelong sailor. Instead, it left me questioning whether guests who report serious issues are adequately protected from bearing the consequences themselves.

Hooked on Virgin Voyages
I recently got back from an incredible Virgin Voyages cruise sailing out of Barcelona, and I am officially hooked! The adults-only atmosphere completely changes the game, offering a vibe that is sophisticated, high-energy, and deeply relaxing all at once. The onboard entertainment was fresh and modern, and the food was phenomenal, including the specialty dining that's included your dining package.
A major highlight of the itinerary was stopping along the coast, especially an absolute dream of a day taking a custom driving tour in Nice, France. Between the gorgeous ship design, top-tier service, and unforgettable ports, Virgin Voyages nailed every detail. It was the perfect mix of luxury and exploration, and I'm already figuring out when I can book my next voyage!
Good product, bad after sales service /booking system
Good product , but useless booking system and after sales service
Great product ....... Useless booking system and communication from sailor services ..... Deflection the whole way and no attempt to deal to the problem at hand . They offer various currencies to pay in ...if you select your local currency , all the wheels fall off with the booking system and credits that are supposed to be credited to your account for the cruise .... It was a fiasco on 2 cruises I booked . For both myself and my travel agent ...... If you are going to offer a service ....make sure it works !!!!! No one could resolve the fact I basically got charged and extra 1000nz dollars for my cruise over the initial advertised price and I got an (inferior) aft cabin when I requested a mid cabin during booking ..... Nothing was even don't to rectify this while on board ...... Poor show Virgin Voyages . 😔😔😔
LACKS ENTERTAINMENT THROUGHOUT THE DAY
LACKS ENTERTAINMENT THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THEY DO HAVE A SOCIAL ROOM WHERE YOU CAN PLAY BOARD GAMES AND BUILD PUZZLES BUT IT'S NOT WHAT I LOOK TO DO ON A CRUISE. DURING PORT DAYS EVERYTHING ON THE SHIP IS CLOSED DOWN. ANY OTHER CRUISE I'VE BEEN ON AT LEAST HAD THE STORES ON THE SHIP OPEN AND ENTERTAINMENT ALL THE TIME. NOT EVERYONE DOES EXCURSIONS AND THERE WERE A COUPLE PORTS IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE AN EXCURSION THERE'S NOTHING TO DO AT PORT. (TOLD TO US BY CREW MEMBERS) AND AGAIN, NOT EVERYONE DOES EXCURSIONS AT EVERY PORT. THINGS WERE VERY DISORGANIZED WITH THE SHIP AS WELL AS THE CREW. SEVERAL CREW MEMBERS LOOKED MISERABLE TO BE THERE. BARS INSIDE THE SHIP DIDN'T OPEN UNTIL 3 BUT YOU CAN ALWAYS GO OUT TO THE POOL AREA TO GET DRINKS, RAIN OR SHINE. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO GO OUT IN THE RAIN IF I WANT TO GET A DRINK BEFORE 3, AND WHEN YOU BUY THE DRINK PACKAGE YOU LOSE IT IF NOT USED BUT THEY MAKE IT HARD TO USE IT. WHILE WE WERE AT SEA HEADING TO VICTORIA BRITISH COLUMBIA WHICH WAS THE LAST PORT, THEY SENT A MESSAGE THAT THE BARS ON THE SHIP WILL BE LIMITED BECAUSE OF CANADIAN LAWS, BUT THEY FORGOT THE PORT BEFORE THAT WE WERE AT WAS PRINCE RUPERT BRITISH COLUMBIA. GUESS IT'S NOT CANADIAN LAWS AFTER ALL BUT THEY DIDN'T THINK THAT ONE OUT BEFORE SAYING IT. THE FOOD..........THE GALLEY WAS OUR ONLY OPTION BECAUSE WE DIDN'T KNOW WE HAD TO BOOK AT A NICER RESTAURANT BEFORE THE CRUISE. WHILE ON THE CRUISE I WAS GOING TO BOOK A COUPLE RESTAURANTS AND THEY WERE ALREADY BOOKED UP. THE FOOD IN THE GALLEY WAS DEFINITYLY NOT 5 STAR FOOD, IT WAS ALRIGHT AT BEST. THEY DON'T HAVE A LOT TO CHOOSE FROM EITHER AND THE TIMES IN THE GALLEY WERE INCONSISTANT. SOME PLACES OPENED AT 7:00AM ONE DAY AND 8:00AM THE NEXT. SAME WITH THE LUNCH TIMES AT SOME OF THE PLACES. THE FREE INTERNET IS HORRIBLE SO WE PAID THE $300PR. PERSON FOR A LITTLE BETTER SERVICE BUT NOT MUCH. THEY SAY ITS $550PR. PERSON FOR ANYONE THAT NEEDS TO CONDUCT BUSINESS. OVERALL IT WAS NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE AND I WON'T GO BACK ON VIRGIN VOYAGES.
The dinner reservation system was…
The dinner reservation system was cumbersome and stress inducing. There were no times available when I was allowed to book - which meant everyday was a hassle to find a place to eat. Need some more basic options in the galley - sandwiches to order, pasta, etc. Drinks were too expensive. No announcements is a nice idea - but caused confusion on days about when we can disembark, etc. Ship made a diversion - no info shared. TV system for ship information lacked local time, weather, etc.
Sail away
Went on an 11 day cruise around Turkey and Greece and was absolutely delighted with everything.Food was great so many choices entertaining brilliant staff brilliant wish all companies could train their staff like Virgin. This is a different way to cruise not stuffy so you don’t have a dress code but respectful and no children so it suits all adults.
General Winge
Embarkation was time set. Other cruise companies are more flexible.
You had to disembark even when your flights were late in the day.
Speciality restaurants were very good. But early time availability was restrictive.
General food was average, had to have an average Pizza a couple of evenings.
Some good entertainment staff pity the content was so poor.
Excursions were over priced.
Some Bar entertainment OK.
There are better offerings out there.
I'd like to share honest feedback on…
I'd like to share honest feedback on two very different phone experiences with Virgin Voyages.
An earlier representative, Scott, was outstanding. When I mentioned a promotion I'd seen, he proactively checked what Virgin could offer, was transparent about the details, arranged a fair discount, and noted my wedding anniversary on my booking. He even told me I could simply call anytime I received an offer to check if it applied. That call made me confident booking directly with Virgin.
My most recent call was the opposite. I called to check whether an emailed Bar Tab promotion applied to my voyage. That question was answered (it didn't apply, which is completely fine). But after that, the agent kept trying to sell me add-ons, and I never really got the chance to ask my actual second question about anniversary dining. I only managed to mention it briefly at the very end, and I ended up saying I'd just call back later, mainly because the call felt more like a sales pitch than customer service.
My feedback: I value phone support for getting my questions answered, especially things the app can't handle. It would be much better if agents made space to hear the customer's questions rather than focusing on upselling. Scott was a great example of getting this right, and I hope that becomes the standard.
Best cruise line out there
Best cruise line out there. Great food and service!
