Virgin Voyages - an awful experience
I have just finished a Virgin Voyages cruise called Moroccan Marvels and it was very disappointing and frustrating. It did not live up to their marketing at all and I will never do another Virgin Cruise.
Before I summarise the faults I will say that the staff were excellent and the cabin was comfortable. However ...
The embarkation and disembarkation processes were awful. We were 4 hours delayed in our departure and many guests had to wait for over 2 hours. Getting off the ship was worse with many people waiting for nearly 3 hours, missing transfers and the like.
It is marketed as a "foodie" cruise and it is not. The food was very average overall - some of the dishes were good but we did not have one meal where all our party enjoyed it. There were hardly any vegetarian options and almost no vegan options. The drinks were very expensive and also not very good.
The entertainment was very poor. We spent a lot of time wondering what to do while be heavily up sold on the alcohol and other additions. We were being sold to A LOT.
The excursions and ports were very poor. Most people we spoke to complained about them. One of our stops "Bordeaux" was an industrial port and we were taking to a tiny seaside resort called Le Soulac, which was awful.
The Wifi onboard was so bad that you had to upgrade to their recommended package with cost you another $250 to just get basic Wifi that you would expect to have now.
The cabins on the 14th floor are all under one of the facilities. Some of our party were directly under the nightclub or gym and so the cabins were so noisy the guests could get no sleep. The response to them complaining was "sorry, we are full"
These are the main complaints, there are others but this is enough to give you sense of the experience. It was truly awful. Luckily this was not my first cruise and my experience on Celebrity was amazing. If this was my first cruise I would never do another, fortunately I know there are better experiences out there.
This has been my fourth Virgin cruise…
This has been my fourth Virgin cruise and the Brilliant Lady did not disappoint. The Alaska cruise itinerary was great with great shore excursion options. My only disappointment was that there was no cream for my morning coffee. Only whole milk was available. Otherwise, it was a fantastic time.
1st time due to travel, stressed so far with app situation
I am due to travel in September on scarlet lady. I downloaded the app successfully and did the original registration so virgin have all my personal info. Now, over the last 2 weeks, despite 3 calls and reassurances, I still cannot access the app. All excursions etc are done via the app, and I can see things selling out. I'm wasting so much time sorting this. 1st time experience with Virgin Voyages and I am so far stressed, frustrated and issue is still unresolved. I'm not sure how I am going to check in without the app. This is a warning to others as I should be getting excited about the holiday, not worrying about the poor tech support that is still unresolved
Many groups ran into dinner…
Many groups ran into dinner reservations issues. We were told beforehand that we would be able to add our single traveler to our reservation (wouldn’t let us add an odd number of people) and got there to basically be told we were out of luck and would have to go to the galley. Many of the workers are very rude, have no interest in being there and not accommodating at all. Most things are closed a lot of the day leaving you with nothing to do, more of a hotel stay. Room attendant was the only person we enjoyed. Food is decent.
Virgin has gone way downhill
Virgin has gone way downhill. The experience is terrible. Expect to be nicked and dimed at every corner. Horrible customer service. Shitty app. Bad food. Small pool. No reservations available anywhere. Overpriced terrible excursions. Loud and horrible music spun by DJ school flunk-outs. Lame ass entertainment.
Overall great
Overall great! Drink prices are very high, and the bartender's knowledge on making drinks is rather low. We were also less than pleased with the change to the Razzle Dazzle restaurant. It is now Indian which we love Indian food so we were ok with it initially, but the food was just ok and all the dishes were a little too try hard. Some basics like Butter Chicken or Vendaloo would go a long way.
Great Cruise, BUT...
We love cruising with Virgin Voyages, but Prince Rupert didn't appeal to us and should have been replaced with another port. Prince Rupert, while quaint, was much too rural for our liking, and we do understand that is the nature of the area, I'm quite sure there are other ports that exceed a one-horse town without the horse.
Our cabin was in excellent condition, although it was smaller than what we're accustomed to. I now know to ensure we are midship and not near the rear, otherwise the angle of the hull makes the room smaller between the TV and foot of the bed.
Our cabin steward, Ni, was EXCELLENT!!! She is very pleasant and always ensured we were completely satisfied with everything in her control. We also interacted with Lawrence, who arranged for daily delivery of a continental breakfast to our cabin and we highly appreciated that! There were other staff on board, but sadly, I don't have their names, but there weren't any crew we met on board that we were not impressed by their professionalism and excellent attitudes.
Being charged $40 per bag for Port Valet fees was an unpleasant surprise as there were no charges listed, nor even hinted upon. According to an online search, Port Valet is a free service so why we were charged at all?! It isn't about the amount, but the principle We were not expecting any charges, and to be charged after leaving the ship felt very underhanded because there doesn't seem much leverage to protest it. I find this to be well outside normal Virgin Voyages operations. In my opinion, I was fraudulently charged and am completely unsatisfied with the outcome. I will more than likely be filing a charge dispute with my card provider whom I'm sure will agree with me.
Horrible service from Virgin Security…
Horrible service from Virgin Security team onboard.
Violating their own Terms and Conditions
Avoid. They charge people extra (Mandatory 200 USD tips deduction during the trip from the card), however, in thir own terms and conditions, under “Terms of fare”, point 2.2.2, it is mentioned that it is possible to opt out of this before disembarkation.
When people mentioned this during the trip, they refused to act so, blaming the other company, which booked the trip for the current trip.
(Not to mention that the shows are very repetitive over the years, going on Virgin for subsequent years makes the shows boring)
Since they do not honor their own terms and conditions, I would highly avoid this company, as this means that they are free to act as they want and they can get away with it. No matter what you would sign with them, they would not honor it. Complete loss of trust.
We sailed on Valiant lady from…
We sailed on Valiant lady from barcelona. We had really high expectations from virgin how wrong we was. First the ship it's self is very clean and well maintained, our cabin was a balcony was nice nothing wowing.
FOOD
This is we're it underwhelming started. First day you think yes this great concept by day 3 your bored of the same food specially the galley all station are the same every day they change one station daily which mostly different curries. So if your not into noodles salad all day breakfast and taco s you've had it. You can do brunch in a couple of the restaurants but its the same menu everyday. You cannot sit and order breakfast like you can on other cruise ships it's mainly the same menu as dinner. Who the bloody hell wants clam chowder at 9am in the morning. And you don't get free coffee or fresh juice you have to pay for it. The restaurants on an evening are the same menu every night if you haven't got a sophisticated palette like me I will admit to that your knackered. And they seem to like salt everything was just spoilt by how much they use. My husband is a real foodie and he struggled with the food at the wake, extra virgin and he loves itialian food. The best was the Mexican.
DRINKS
Drinks we thought was very expensive, the prices are in dollars then they had extra 10% tax on every drink you purchase. We had 925 dollars for 7 night cruise we only had 1 sea day so was off the ship most of the cruise and honestly we didn't go mad couple of drinks in afternoon, im not into cocktails so was mostly a few red wines on evening. Asked for a glass of house red in extra virgin so your talking 175ml when I looked at the bill he had charged me 17 dollars and then the 10% tax on top of that just for a basic wine. And some some parts of the ship we was getting served them in dirty plastic glasses we we thought was unexceptable.
ENTERTAINMENT
Again very big let down some of the shows was embarrassing, some of the worst we've seen on a cruise ship and we have been on a pretty fair few different companies sit near the exit so you can get a quick getaway. They have the same artists singing in the venues nearly every night gets very boring very big let down for us. The music by the pool is very loud I mean very loud bang bang music all day mostly aimed for young ones just wasn't relaxing, if your not bothered about a pool go to the dock on deck 6 more relaxed and chilled.
We was so looking forward to this cruise and we watched a lot of YouTube videos on it but still wasn't prepared for disappointment. Go with a open mind best bit was no kids. Would we use again. No is the answer.
I loved the Valiant Lady
I loved the Valiant Lady. It was my first trip on this ship and my first experience on a ship for ages 18+. The staff was amazing. I enjoyed dining at different restaurants each evening (all included), as well as in the galley, where I could have breakfast and salads each afternoon. I appreciated the vegan options, though I wish there were more varieties of vegan ice cream. The recommendations I would make are, first, to upgrade the evening shows. I've only been on a few other cruise lines and am relatively new to cruises, but the offering of performances was not equal to other lines. Also, felt the off-shore excursions were very expensive, and there were not enough descriptions of things to do in each city if we did not take excursions. I would have liked to enjoy a beach, especially with 100-degree temperatures, but saw no opportunities. I did enjoy the gym, karaoke bar, and the game room and tables. Overall, I would still give the cruise a 5-star rating.
Terrible 3 hour check in today
Terrible 3 hour check in today. Worse customer experience no one gave a toss
Good in parts
Good in parts. The booking was easy because they were taking my money but things went down hill fast. I spent two days tryng to check in and two days on the phone to so called "sailor services" without success. On the 5th day I was able to check in and in fairness they upgraded me to a balcony. On arrival at the port embarkation was like a cattle market. I have only crusied once before with P&O and that was a really nice, relaxed embarkation process, Virgin's was not. The room and ship were nice. I kept away from the main pool because of the weather, too many rainbows. Food was pretty good but best restaurants were always fully booked way in advance. Excursions seemed very pricey to me but perhaps I am out of date. Personally I wouldn't cruise with Virgin again.
Life on board was a dream
The booking process was easy and smooth. The staff were very friendly, professional and extremely helpful. Food was abundant, desserts were fantastic. Overall a memorable dining experience. Life is a dream onboard but summer time is too hot for comfort in the islands. Bimini beach was too crowded however the blue skies and remarkable cloud formations more than compensate for the discomfort.
Getting worse and worse
Getting worse and worse. Drinks getting more expensive. They are trading on attracting a liberal and lgbt crowd but taking that for granted.
Last night, zero entertainment or effort to have a last night party which frankly goes against what Virgin is meant to be about.
Other cruise lines do this better
Es un crucero para NO fumadores
Es un crucero para NO fumadores
Tratan al cliente fumador despectivamente y obligan a fumar en el área que más calor hace del crucero.
Si consumes CBD NO PUEDES FUMAR EN NINGÚN SITIO.
Here's the terrible customer service…
Here's the terrible customer service you can expect from Virgin! I was shopping on the website and wanted to get to the payment screen so I could get a quote for full price or deposit so I could write it down, and instead of a payment screen, it literally booked the voyage for me using the card I had on file. There was no clear "PAY NOW" button or anything. I tried to click the back button once I realized the loading screen was suspiciously long, but apparently it was too late, I was booked, completely by accident. I immediately got into queue for the customer service chat, waited half an hour only to get booted out of the chat completely without ever talking to someone, and it wouldn't reconnect and said no agents were available, even though chat should have still been available for another 2hrs. So then I immediately got on the phone to call for assistance. I could barely hear the agent, terrible delay and garbled sounding on the phone. I simply wanted to immediately cancel so I could go back to shopping and picking my cruise later. Finally got my dilemma across, only to be informed that I would lose my deposit and all the MNVV perks permanently if I cancelled, even though I had booked less than an hour ago, and by mistake because of their terrible website flow! Agent put me on hold to check with a supervisor, only to come back and tell me I was out of luck. This is how you lose customers. Why would I want to rebook now, after having this experience, and losing my deposit and future voyage credits?!? Shame on Virgin.
Terrible Virgin Experience, Book a Celebrity Cruise Instead
Terrible experience with Sailor Services on board as a first-time Virgin customer. Upon boarding, we were shocked to learn our cabin had been changed without any prior notice or explanation. The new room was less desirable, and despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue through Sailor Services, the staff seemed indifferent and offered no meaningful solutions or compensation. No upgrades, credits, or even a sincere apology were provided to make up for the inconvenience, leaving us feeling completely undervalued as guests.
The overall onboard experience fell far short of expectations for a premium cruise line. From inconsistent service to a lack of proactive problem-solving, it was disappointing from start to finish. I do not recommend Virgin Voyages and would highly suggest booking with Celebrity instead, which delivered 10/10 customer service and a genuinely superior onboard experience. Their team went above and beyond to ensure satisfaction something Virgin failed to do entirely. Save yourself the frustration and choose Celebrity.
Alaska Trip
Had a great time cruising virgin voyages to Alaska. Would do it again in a heartbeat I just wish they had a longer trip to Alaska all the food on the ship was above average we ate at their restaurants each one of them for the one week trip. Virgin voyages is no one under 18 so that's a plus. Lots to do on the ship you won't get bored the shows are good I think they could be a little better though all in all I would certainly Cruise this line again.
Do your research
Let’s make this clear the ship and cruise itself was great. Many areas on the ship were made for relaxation but does EVERY show have to be raunchy! The worst part was the Turks port! DO YOUR HOMEWORK we were docked on the driest least appealing side with only the ocean's beauty redeemed this stop. There definitely was some type of deal with the cruise line to bring tourist there to spend money on magnets and tshirts. We took a tour and it was horrible a wasted $170 and three hours to be shown every place that was closed or dried up. And this was one of the cheapest tours. This is time we can’t get back. There is a problem when you see more mean donkeys than people! We heard the tour guide drone on and on about what used to be with us FINALLY going to a desolate beach that we were chased away from because donkeys kept getting in our bags. Do your research! Where we docked was NOT what we envisioned as these lush and beautiful beaches. SO DISAPPOINTING! @VirginVoyages shame on you! Five days, two ports and one port was TRASH! When we got to Bimini we were told it was a 25 minute walk. 45 minutes later we were picked up by an empathetic driver to drive still five more minutes all the while being accosted by locals to rent a golf cart for $100 a day. This cruise line was more interested in building up the local economy than the comfort of paying vacationers!!
