Standards are slipping

Standards are slipping, dirty carpet in the room, reported, nothing done about it. Took two days and multiple requests, for a problem with the tablet in the room to be sorted. Over charged in pounds to buy extras that in dollars were cheaper. Apparently no nickel and diming sailors.

Long queues to get on, through passport, long queues to check passports, long queues to disembark, there was an unorganised feel to the experience.

Can't fault most staff on board, attentive and friendly. But you can tell Virgin are now cost cutting.
Will probably book elsewhere next year.

Bad experience all around

The food was horrible, no choices and bad tasting no matter where you went, even some of the ice cream was freezer burnt. I dont drink soda and the only place I could get a drink was the 15th floor. They didnt properly mix their cleaning chemicals for our balcony railing and ended up with chemical burns on my arms. Let's say the it was I will be going back to Royal Caribbean where there are kids on board since thr 18+ crowd do not know how to act appropriately.

Stay far away from this cruise

Stay far away from this cruise. We have gone on two voyages with Virgin. Our first was great! We saw a big decline in the second. The quality of food and service has gone down quite a bit. Many people were unfriendly and the food was comparable to a school cafeteria. Accessibility is also hard for anyone who has any sort of mobility issues. Disembarkation at the ports is chaotic. However, out biggest issue came after the cruise. As instructed we put our bags out the night before arrival to be retrieved at baggage claim. My mom's suitcase never made it. Customer service ever since has been absolutely abhorrent. We were told at the port that we would get reimbursed for everything. So far we have spent over 7 hours on hold, sent multiple emails, and chats. We get passed from one person to the next. No one is able or willing to help. We've been asked to fill out the same form 5 times. Meanwhile, my mom lost all of her clothes and isn't able to afford to replace them. We will never sail with this line again and recommend you think twice before booking.

Very disappointing

Whilst there were plusses with the cruise, they were overshadowed by a couple of significant negatives. Firstly this was supposed to be a “once in a lifetime dream whale watching cruise” and very simply that couldn’t be further from the truth. We spent quite a few afternoons on the top deck looking but never saw any whales or orcas. When we were on a Celebrity cruise around New Zealand several years ago, it was very helpful when if the crew on the bridge saw some wildlife, they would announce it on the PA system with something like “whales or dolphins on the port side at 10 o’clock”. There were no such notifications on this ship. We naively assumed that we would be able to see whales and orcas etc from the main ship but it appears that you have to go on one of the boat excursions to do this, which leads to the second complaint.
The cost of the cruise is expensive enough but the prices on the excursions were excessive. There was one boat trip that could not be booked until we got on board. Once we were on the ship and enquired about this, we were told that it was a 2 hour boat ride and would cost $450 EACH. That’s $900/£680 per couple for a 2 hour trip. We went on a ride on a rib which was supposed to be for 2 hours and 25 minutes which actually turned out to be for only one and half hours. This cost £310 for the two of us. The only wildliife we saw was an eagle perched on a small lighthouse and in fact that was the only animal we saw on the whole cruise. It is 2026 and there is enough technology to avoid this situation. Why not send drones out to establish if there are any animals to be seen and if so, where they are. Obviously you cannot guarantee that animals will be found on all trips but people have paid a lot of money in good faith for the excursion and it should not be a WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY, which is exactly what our trip was.
All in all, the cruise was very poor value for money and we shan’t do another Virgin trip, nor recommend it to anyone.

Virgin Voyages All The Way, All The Time

It was my 3rd Cruise with Virgin Voyages, 2 times aboard Scarlet Lady and my 1st on Brilliant Lady to Alaska. I was overjoyed to see the ship had an identical layout which made navigating the various decks familiar. I always thoroughly enjoy travelling with Virgin Voyages and even though I tried the solo insider sailor experience, it was an absolutely delightful cruise, and my blue extra perks made it all the more amazing. The crew staff as always were delightful. Special mention CJ, Tem, Tiago, May and François all of whose expertise, customer service and friendliness made my experience all the more amazing.
What I would like see improved is the food served at afternoon tea. Please add a wider variety of sandwiches and clotted cream (not whipped cream)! The French macaroons need to be more authentic and generally less sweet treats and more variety. Warm scones if possible please.
The food at each onboard restaurant and at the galley didn't disappoint either!

The views on this voyage from Seattle to Endicott Arms and Dawes Glacier and back were some of the most picturesque I've ever experienced. We were extremely fortunate to have clear skies and unreasonably warm weather. Photos and videos of my experiences have been posted on my Instagram channel..

So Much Potential, But Some Major Misses on Valiant Lady

This was my very first cruise, and overall I'd rate my experience on Virgin Voyages' Valiant Lady as average. There were things I absolutely loved-but there were also some significant misses that had a real impact on our vacation, and ultimately caused us not to book another cruise while onboard.

The biggest issue was our cabin. We were in cabin 14174Z, directly below the weightlifting area of the gym. Every morning we were woken by people working out, and when weights were dropped, we could hear and actually feel it-the room would shake. The lack of full sleep left me groggy pretty much every morning. I'm generally a fun, positive person and was able to push through and enjoy myself, but after nearly two weeks, it definitely affected the experience.

Virgin gave us a $400 onboard credit because of the noise and told us they didn't have another cabin to move us to. What made that harder to understand was that friends traveling with us had a similar problem under the galley and were eventually moved to Deck 13 halfway through the trip. I appreciated the credit, but I would have much preferred a quiet room and good sleep. If I sail with Virgin again, figuring out the cabin situation beforehand will be essential.

The food was very hit or miss. Every restaurant seemed to have some dishes that were great and others that were major misses. I eventually found myself ordering more than I could possibly eat just to increase my chances of finding the hits. That said, the restaurant atmospheres were stellar. Virgin clearly put a lot of thought into creating distinctive spaces and experiences.

I also really liked having the variety of casual options in The Galley. The sushi and salad bar was great and an unexpected favorite was the vegan hotdogs in the games/sports area-they were delicious!

My biggest kudos, by far, goes to the the crew and the Happenings Cast. I'm a queer, non-binary Caribbean person, and I felt immediately comfortable with the diversity, representation and overall vibe of the people working on the ship. It didn't feel forced or performative to me; it was simply part of the environment. The Happenings Cast brought so much personality, fun and energy to the experience.

That feeling of comfort and representation is probably the single biggest reason I'm willing to give Virgin another try despite the cabin experience. There was something about the culture onboard that felt genuinely different and welcoming to me.

The itinerary itself was more disappointing that I expected. Lisbon was amazing, and Bilbao was something I had particularly looked forward to because I wanted to make the trek up to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe-aka Dragonstone. Those were highlights. The other ports were surprisingly lackluster for me. The France stop was marketed as "Bordeaux" but we actually docked in Le Verdon, which felt more like arriving at a desolate shipyard and then needing to be bused somewhere of interest. We went to Soulac-sur-Mer, which was a pleasant but very touristy beach town-the kind of place I feel I've seen many times before. It certainly wasn't the word "Bordeaux" had conjured up for me. Getting to Bordeaux itself would have meant around 4 hours of travel time round trip, which didn't seem worthwhile during a 12-hour docking.

I later learned that ours was essentially a repositioning cruise at the end of the summer season. Now I know what that means, but I wish I had understood that before booking. I think it would have helped set my expectations for the itinerary.

There were also some serious embarkation and disembarkation issues. We personally escaped the extremely long lines, but some of our friends did not. They were caught in lines that, quite frankly, looked unsafe because of sheer number of people and congestion. Whatever caused it, the process appeared very poorly planned. Even though we weren't personally stuck in those lines, it affected our vacation because our friends were taken away from time we had planned together onboard.

More concerning was the experience of a friend traveling with us who was disabled and using a crutch following knee surgery. There were no wheelchairs readily available for him during embarkation or disembarkation. He was faced with standing in the long lines or, when standing became difficult, being told to find a seat if he needed to rest. Eventually, as he began experiencing significant pain, our group had to make a fuss with the crew's supervisor before he was escorted through more quickly.

So I came away from Valiant Lady pretty conflicted. There were major misses, but then the crew, the Happenings Cast, the beautiful ship environments, the adult atmosphere and the inclusive vibe matters enough for me to give Virgin another shot-with a quiet cabin and fun ports!

Now I Know!

Nice ship, terrible operations

We sailed Valiant Lady from Barcelona to Portsmouth in July 2026, our second cruise ever. The ship itself is well designed, but Virgin’s operations were consistently bad, and there was no accountability when things went wrong.
Check-in in Barcelona took four and a half hours. Virgin changed the terminal with little notice, so people were scrambling for Ubers to a different location. Once in line, nobody from Virgin explained the delay or gave any updates. Senior citizens were on the verge of passing out because of standing in line without any food/water for several hours. We also spent weeks trying to upload our UK visa through the app, which only supports ETAs, not tourist visas. Phone support couldn’t help, and the check-in staff didn’t know how to process it either. Midway through the trip, Virgin told us they still didn’t have it on file.
There was no apology for the embarkation chaos. When Virgin later hosted a champagne event as the ship passed under the bridge in Lisbon, they moved the start time up an hour without telling passengers, so we arrived to find the champagne already gone.
The worst part was disembarkation in Portsmouth. Our exit slot was 7:45am, and we waited over two hours past it while staff prioritized boarding new crew and blamed each other for the delay. No one managed the lines, so people started cutting and arguments broke out. We missed our train out of Portsmouth and lost $153. Virgin did not compensate us.
Food was average and repeated often. Excursions left almost no free time, and the ship was consistently late leaving every port.
We came in expecting a lot based on Virgin’s reputation. What we got was a company that looks great in marketing and struggles badly with basic logistics.

Right now I don't know where to start i am on the Resilient Lady right now writing this review this is how bad it was there are no doors on the bathroom in the rooms so if you are sharing a room with someone your business is all out in the open. 2 the food was not good at all the only place that I found food that was edible was the little Ramen shop. That is the only reason why they received 2 stars from me and they kept my room clean other than that they would not get a star from me. I went in the men's room an there was four men coming out of a one stall bathroom. I was on a cruise to Grand Turks and Bimini island the dates was 8/8/26 - 8/13/26. All these people who are posting these YouTube videos are either lying or they are being paid by Virgin to give a good review

I was very unimpressed and underwhelmed with my experience in Virgin Voyages. The food and servers were amazing but the experience of the boat was poor. Me and my group will not be returning on the Virgin cruises. There was inconsistent communication throughout the entire cruise. There was mixed messaging/notifications, with improper information being spread. There were 4 cancelled shows, 2 cancelled without any notification and just removed from the "day planner" and then on the day of the show, sent an notification to "come on down". It was extremely frustrating. The communication regarding shuttle locations, pick up/drop offs were wrong. The location was changed day of and in the city of Marseille, there was no stands/address was incorrect to catch the complimentary shuttle so we had to catch a taxi to the boat. The excursions Virgin offers are a joke and overpriced. We paid $700 for basically public transportation on a public ferry and public train. $900 CAD, for a $4 train ticket. It was a joke and a waste of money/time. I looked online at private guides/tours and they are a fraction of the price with better accommodation. I wish we did that and saved our money. All the events throughout the evening and sea days were aimed at guests buying things on the boat. It felt like a money grab at every step. The coffee was horrible, you had to pay extra for a latte when you already spend how much on the cruise itself. The drinks were overpriced. The communication regarding tenders resulted in many people not being allowed to "leave"' the boat until 12:00pm. The venues that hosted the events were not big enough, resulting in so many of us needing to stand for an hour + show. The fun events had an extra cost associated. There is no way they gave out all the money they accumulated from bingo, it was another money grab. There were no high limit rooms. The bartenders were not cutting off people and people became too drunk and obnoxious. When I brought my concerns forward, I got the reply that "this will be forwarded to the correct team". There is no way I will be spending my money with Virgin. I will be informing my friends and family to also skip this cruise line.

What an awesome experience!

I had a wonderful cruise with Virgin Voyages. The crew and accommodations were absolutely awesome! Oh, did I mention the food? All I can say is...Amazing! This was my first cruise ever in my 66 years. I chose Virgin Voyages because of the no one under 18 years old policy. Sometimes you need a break. I'm looking forward to future cruises with Virgin.

Horrible experience onboarding and offboarding

Cruise itself was good, lots of fun…but embarkation from Barcelona and disembarkation to England were horrible. Some people had three hour lines to get on and at least 1.5 hours to get off ship. Totally unacceptable, getting off was so bad people were yelling, lines up staircase and elevators turned off due to overcrowding. One lad threatened to shoot someone she claimed cut…near riot conditions and Virgin did nothing. I put down a deposit for future cruise and canceled it the day after got off the ship.

Scarlet Night was very fun and love the drag queen star, there are no kids and no buffets…one of the reasons we chose Virgin. The ports were mixed 1. Tangier - never been on African continent so like that, not a whole lot to the city, 2. Lisbon - loved it, in port overnight and was great, 3. Bordeaux - a coastal town, not much to it, 4. La Caunia and Bilbao - both were great, then to England and the horrible experience there.

Everyone said it was the best. Not.

Everyone said it was the best. Barcelona to Portsmouth. 7/26 through 8/5

To each their own. Food mediocre at best. unless you make reservations. Very hard to do unless it’s done immediately upon VV opening the time slots. Wait times to embark and disembark on international cruises a nightmare. 4 hours on embarkation 2 hours on the latter. People said will miss our train or son ahead and they let them cut the line. We all have places to go. Got behind schedule and turned the speed up causing many to get motion slow sick. Pool extremely small. No open air on shady areas. All facing towards pool vs ocean.

Friendly staff. Good ice cream shop. Good water pressure.

Virgin voyagers No longer the best cruise company

Firstly let me say we have done a total of 4 Virgin cruises. First 2 on Resiliant Lady then 1 on Brilliant Lady and the latest on Valiant Lady. We Loved ❤️❤️cruises 1 and 2 both European Kotor Montenegro Split and a Greek Islands including Santorini Mykonos Turkey. The 3rd Carribean from Miami was okayish but could see the deteroration in standards and overall poor experience creeping in despite that one being on the brand new ship. We had encouraged friends to join us after 2nd one ...hence why we booked cruise 4. This was the worst experience by far! Morrocan marvels and mediterrean wonders. No wonder they changed the name of the trip to Barcelona to Portsmouth. Entertainment was hit and miss as was the food and general overall experience. They have stripped back all the great USP that warranted the luxury price tag and cost. The embarkation and disenbarkation was a total shambles on cruise 4. Booking dinner reservations was challenging . The ship looked tired and over its age. I have always promoted Vv as the No1 cruise line and raved about it and promoted it to everyone I met. Sadly I wont be doing this anymore after our latest experience and even more so after the extra creeping changes to MNNV along with price increases and structure set up last yr. I would be suprised if they retain their title of best cruise line next yr especially for sailors not from the US. The Adults only perk is being diluted fast and is more targeted towards 20 /30s now and it will only be a matter of time before they drop that to include children. Virgin Voyagers have not only upset the customers with the money grab and reduced quality offerings and quite frankly dropped from top spot cruise and likely to keep slipping ...they have also treated loyal first mates the same way. Time to part waves and go to Celebrity or another cruise provider. Not after a come back we miss you or any other offer from virgin to retain us as customers as standards have slipped so much I am having to book a few days away (less than 3 days after the last cruise) to feel like I have had an actual holiday this yr!. This feedback post is to make people aware the once fantastic vv cruise is not what it used to be anymore and Vv are not listening to and more importantly adressing and acting on customer feedback. Very disappointing 😟

Awful post-cruise service, be aware. My first, my last.
There were some Shore Things that were cancelled by Virgin and never refund, not in the App credit system ("My wallet") nor in my card. Impossible to get proper support in their website: their agents shut down the chat box before giving you all the info, their mailing service promises to get in contact with you in 3 days, never happened. Terrible.

Disappointed

We booked this cruise after having such an incredible experience on a previous sailing that we invited two friends to join us. Unfortunately, this trip fell far short of our expectations.

During the cruise, we experienced repeated room service issues that delayed our mornings, including a late breakfast delivery and another where half of our order was missing. Both of these days, we had preordered breakfast so that we could quickly eat and go out and explore the ports, so this delayed us getting off the ship at BOTH destinations. Our shower leaked every time it was used, flooding the bathroom floor. The biggest issue, however, was our friends' stateroom, where the air conditioning never worked properly. They reported it multiple times through the app, their stateroom attendant, and Guest Services, but despite someone eventually checking the room, the problem was never fixed, leaving them uncomfortable and unable to sleep well for the duration of the cruise.

Rather than immediately posting a public review, I chose to contact the cruise line directly in hopes they would make things right. After spending nearly **$6,000** for four people, the only resolution offered was **$150 off a future cruise for one person**. While we weren't expecting a full refund, we did expect a response that better reflected the issues we experienced. This $150 off is the standard amount they offer to anyone booking another cruise. They did send me two emails apologizing, and that was it.

I'm sharing this so other travelers have an honest picture of our experience and in the hope that these issues are addressed for future guests.

Overall good value

The good points:
- The staff are amazing - friendly, helpful and always smiling!
- The food is fabulous at all the restaurants and food outlets and there's so much choice!!
- The cabins are lovely (we had a sea terrace) and really comfortable

The not so good:
- You get spammed with emails from Virgin
- Getting booked into the restaurants can be tricky as some people can book up to 45 days in advance so all the reservations have gone. This made our voyage somewhat stressful until we went to complain and it was all sorted (5 days into the voyage)
- The itineraries are a bit misleading - be careful - but we've since noticed they all do this. The destination may say Florence, but actually it was 1 hour and 45 minutes away and you either have to pay an extraordinary amount of money to the company or organise your own travel there and back. It would be better if they put the port name first and the potential destination in brackets after, instead of the other way round, which they do at the minute.
- It used to be that Virgin had one price that included everything - tips, internet etc... which made it much simpler to navigate than other cruise companies. Now it's gone down the same route so it's more like a Ryan Air style pricing strategy, which we found frustrating. Coupled with the 'pay more and book restaurants earlier' it seemed more like Ryan Air meets Alton Towers fast pass. That lost it a USP we loved.
- The entertainment was good (not quite as good as last time) but if you don't like things a little left field, it may not be your bag. The quizzes also focus more on American culture than British - which made it harder and we're very competitive!!
- If you don't like loud Americans, this is perhaps not for you

The cruise was very laid back and the crew were friendly in a “ I think I know you” sort of way and they seem to enjoy their jobs.

The food was remarkably good and there was an abundance of it as you would expect. Getting coffee was a bit more of a trip than I would have like and getting it sent to your room cost ten dollars.

It would have been nice to have a retractable awning in the cabana we rented or a misting fan. Also, some better disembarkation direction would have been nice.

But this is a 9/10 trip for sure. Note- do not take the Rome walking trip that’s 90 minutes away via bus. There’s no return if your hot, tired sick or bored….
