Do not cover 17 year olds
Misleading guidance led to unnecessary fees
I took out a policy on my daughter's first car ahead of her 17th birthday, as I needed to move the vehicle beforehand and planned to add her as a driver once she was eligible. When I asked via the online chat, I was told she couldn't be added until she turned 17, which seemed perfectly reasonable. Earlier quotes I'd run using a placeholder date of birth had returned a price for a 17-year-old driver, so I had every reason to believe this would be straightforward.
Unfortunately, when her birthday arrived, I was informed that the company doesn't insure 17-year-old drivers at all. As a result, I had to cancel the policy, with additional fees!
The purchase process itself was simple enough, but the information I was given didn't reflect the company's actual policy, and that inconsistency cost me both time and money. Clearer guidance at the outset would have avoided this entirely. I've since arranged cover with Hastings Direct, who were able to help without any difficulty.
I'd encourage anyone insuring a young driver to confirm age eligibility in writing before purchasing.

I changed to the AA for my car insurance as they had the most competitive rate, with the added extras I required.

It was very easy to navigate around the questions. My only criticism is when you try to make an account, the 6 digit code doesn’t come through quick enough! As soon as it comes through and you try and type it in the screen has timed out and it’s sent a new code!

AA Insurance ticked all the boxes..
The process was easy to follow with some details being pre-populated which was a great help. The price was much better than the renewal quote from my old ensurer and the documents arrived with me within minutes. All in all a great service.
