I'm shocked they're still in business

I'm shocked they're still in business. I worked for a salon owner who had beta tested for them and it's all we'd used for 9 years. I finally left that salon and a large portion was due to how embarrassing, and financially disadvantageous styleseat is. It's too much to explain so I'll summarize it as there's always a new issue. It's always broken in a different way. Something else significant breaks right before or after another issue is fixed. They add fees for clients while adding fees for stylists while offering garbage in return. It's just BAD. I've been doing hair a long time and used a lot of systems and this is by far the worst company. They don't even offer any useful or timely support. Asking clients for a dollar every booking is GHETTO.

Belle Deeluxe of McKenney TX…

Stylist Belle Deeluxe of McKenney TX charged 30.00 for color that completely washed out a week later and turned my purple tips green. She initially agreed to fix but then pivoted and asked me to bring the color for the redo which I refused.

Disappointed with the fee structure


As a beauty professional, I pride myself on providing excellent service to my clients, but I’m increasingly frustrated with the way StyleSeat operates. I’ve been using this platform for some time now, and while it has its benefits, the fee structure has become a significant concern for me.

To start, the new client fee of 30% on every booked appointment is quite steep. It disheartens me to think that after pouring my heart and soul into my work, I’m only left with a fraction of what I earn. It feels discouraging when I realize that I’m only seeing about 2/3 of my gross pay after StyleSeat takes their cut.

On top of the new client fee, there’s also a transaction fee that StyleSeat charges, and this is in addition to the fees charged directly to the clients for booking. It feels like a never-ending cycle of expenses, and it raises my eyebrows that they even take a cut from my tips. This is particularly saddening considering how hard I work to earn those tips.

When I finally start to account for my costs—supplies, products, and overhead expenses—the reality is that I’m not left with much. I can’t stress enough how demotivating it is to see my income dwindling due to these high fees. I want to provide the best for my clients, but the current structure makes it challenging to sustain a profitable business.

I believe that it’s time for StyleSeat to reconsider their fee policies, especially for new clients. While I understand the need for a platform to cover its costs, this model ultimately leaves beauty professionals like me feeling undervalued and overburdened. Here's hoping they can find a way to create a more balanced fee structure that supports rather than hinders our success.

Our New Client Connection Program includes a one-time 30% fee on the first appointment booked with clients we introduce. This fee applies only when a new client is referred through our marketing efforts. If one of your existing clients is mistakenly marked as a new client, please let us know! You can easily request a correction by clicking the link in the appointment details that says “new client from StyleSeat” and selecting “request a correction.”

Regarding the processing fees, these are standard across the industry and cover credit card processing costs for client payments. Additionally, StyleSeat charges a $2.35 booking fee to help maintain a seamless booking experience, which is common practice among similar platforms.

We see that you’re currently on our Basic Plan. Based on your feedback, you might find our Premium Plan beneficial. It allows you to customize your features, including the option to disable the New Client Connection Program. Plus, you can process regular appointments using any payment method, and payments processed outside of StyleSeat won’t incur our processing fee (though please note that most payment processors have similar fees).

Been with StyleSeat for 13 years

Been with StyleSeat for 13 years, and I’m glad that the company is growing, but I wish that I had more options. There’s so many features that I don’t use nor do my clients and I don’t feel like I am being heard, but I also feel like my hands are tied unless I wanna start all over again with another company, wish you had different payment plans and different options of needs from the company. I don’t need or want all the extras. I just want the basics.

10+ veteran of StyleSeat

I’ve used this platform for over 10 years so I’ve seen a lot of changes. Some good some not so good. I hate the fact that they charge stylist for referrals and the platform has a cost in and of itself. Or more times than I can count they’ve attempted to charge for new clients that were referred in from existing clients. Been really consider using a different booking platform. I think StyleSeat is great for new stylist or others looking to build tho.

What I love about style seat, is that is easy for client to reserve and add a form of payment, so when we are done with the clients, they automatically can pay or deal with the payment by themselves.
so there is not pressure there.

Booking app with issues! Yes!

I use styleseat as a professional. Recently changes made to their platform has impacted the way my customers and I make appointments. There should be a search when looking up services when booking! There should also be messages sent to customers in a timely manner to alert them of their appointments. Many times the alert comes once the service is completed. I also pay a-lot of fees on Styleseat $35 membership monthly, 30% new client up to $50. I also pay fees for premium appointments and fees for processing. I also bring many customers to your platform by networking and styleseat frequently says they found me a new customer and I have to email a rebuttal that takes too much time and effort for a service I pay for. I pay over $500 in fees monthly and styleseat should send more customers to me.

Fees are outrageous

Fees are outrageous. Charging me every month is one thing but to still charge for every transaction is another. I can’t make any type of living when the middle man is getting paid twice. I pay for the premium package and you guys still charge again at checkout on the price I suggest the customer pay. So I never really get my full tips. Cause the fees every day negate that. I should have gone with The Cut App instead

Insane price gouging!

I think the $35 should be enough but the $2 you charge my clients is insane! Trying to take 30% just for finding clients is also nuts. Honestly, the only reason I stay is for convenience of not having to move my clients to another system.

You‘Re ripping me off!

You rebook my clients that I have seen before as new clients and charge me extra me for booking them when in actuality there search for me because they have either spoken with me and I refer them to my online booking or they haven’t been in to see me in a while so they are searching to see if I’m still n the same place and still working . It sucks.

I don't like that you charge clients a…

I don't like that you charge clients a booking fee while I'm also paying for the service. I can not select multiple of the same service with the same client for the contactless checkout. For example, am entire family comes in for haircuts. I can not select multiple children cuts and have to add it as a separate thing.

Styleseat is the best in Houston.

I actually really enjoy Styleseat, the thing is to understand the rules of how it woks. Styleseat does actually send me clients. But, I'm not fond of not being able to speak to a live representative from styleseat. I've thought about about leaving but, there is not another platform in the Houston area like Styleseat.

Way too much control after you reach a…

Way too much control after you reach a certain point. My clients have automatic check out when some didn’t ask for it. The app don’t remember names you all listed so many clients and new clients and took 35 perfect of my payment as if you brung that client to me and I didn’t ask. The new adding services list is not good I should be able to look up what my services are without hassle. I don’t understand the money break down if I make 2000 dollars why are you sending 1000 one day and 2000 the next. When I open days I’m aware off they are closed off to clients. What I do like is that you all tell my clients I’m busy when I not!

Styleseat makes doing business easy

Styleseat makes doing business easy. I love that I can create mass emails but I don’t like that I cannot edit the photos within the email and most of the pictures are cut off. I like that styleseat brings me new clients but I hate that styleseat lies about bringing me new clients. I’ve paid for google ads and I also offer a special discount for those clients and styleseat will charge me new client fees on people that they did not send to me and it’s costing me more money. I think styleseat should have a question box before new clients book that ask them “how did you find this professional” and have multiple options to select. That way styleseat can have an accurate view of how well their “marketing” is really working. There’s been times when I’ve given someone my link, they book, and styleseat says “we’ve brought you a new client”. NO YOU DID NOT! And I’m so frustrated with this part of the system and it’s the only thing that has me looking for a new system to use. I’ve been with styleseat almost 4 years now I pay the premium package, I pay all the fees, and I don’t mind paying for the clients that you actually send but the lying is extremely frustrating and expensive.

The update in the system is horrible…

The update in the system is horrible for nail techs. We have separate prices for nail art… with the update I can only add one nail art to the bill. It won’t let you add multiple of the same service. The automatic payment is annoying.. it goes through before the stylist can adjust the payment… even if the stylist has it turned off.
The system does not add correctly so you have to pay attention to what you’re charging and make sure the system added it correctly or you’ll short yourself.
They don’t have text marketing.
They money grab and take money from the artists by quick claiming people who are already on the site looking for a stylist and try to say they solicited the client for you. Not true…

Haven’t had the time to switch but leaving StyleSeat ASAP. When I do posting it so other techs I know will never use it. Been unhappy with the service for a few years now.

I've been with styleseat for about 9…

I've been with styleseat for about 9 years. I was a top pro until it was required for me to allow styleseat to headhunte clients with a fee to stay on the search engine. Luckily I have a steady clientele. Also my clients tell me that they are referred to other stylist in the area while booking appointments with me. I was told by rep that it was healthy competition. I would understand of the app was free but im paying you to direct my clients to other stylists that need your headhunter services. Other than that I'm
pleased with the Convenience and upgrades to app.

In order to be a Top Pro on StyleSeat, you have to meet the following criteria on a monthly basis:
- 4.8+ overall rating
- 6+ client bookings
- A New Client acceptance rate of > 75%
- A cancellation rate of < 20%
