Barlborough Hospital

I went to Barlborough Hospital to have a Total Knee Replacement. I could not have had better treatment anywhere. The staff were brilliant and made sure that I was okay throughout my stay.
The Surgeon and Anaesthetist came to see me before my procedure to make sure that I was alright with everything. The operation could not have gone any better and the recovery people were lovely. The food was lovely and they were always coming and asking me if I needed anything at all.
I would certainly use this Hospital again.

Fantastic staff and treatment!

I was referred to the Emersons Green Hospital from the NHS, the service I have received has been fantastic. From my initial GP referral in November, I was seen by a consultant at the hospital in January and had my surgery in May. I had a private room with a TV, the kitchen staff ensured I was well fed and offered teas/coffees throughout my stay. The staff at the hospital are all brilliant, I stayed overnight for my procedure and every nurse took such great care in looking after me, I felt genuinely cared for and no request was too much. The surgical team were fantastic, my surgeon, Mr Dartey ensured I was comfortable and understood the procedure. His calming nature really helped settle my nerves for the major operation I was about to go through, I felt safe and secure in his care. My Anaesthetist was also brilliant, his humour helped me relax and made me feel at ease in the theatre room, I felt a real sense of camaraderie between the team in the theatre. While I've been at home recovering I have received fantastic aftercare, the ward Dr was able to see me on the same day when I phoned up with a query. I'm so grateful for everyone that has been involved in my care, thank you Mr Dartey and team!

Not fit for purpose - This private uity company have taken…

This private equity company have taken over the out of hours care from Devon Doctors who are non-profit and this is the result.
My son is extremely unwell at the moment, called NHS 111 yesterday and was referred for further clinical assessment over the phone which resulted in him being told that he needed to be seen (yesterday) face to face and would receive a call anytime up to midnight to arrange this.
NO call came, no appointment so has to start the whole process off again today. This is no way to treat sick people, Devon Doctors never failed on promised call backs.
Update 03/04/24 my son contacted 111 again the next day with worsening symptoms, this information was fed through to Practice Plus who again promised contact, AGAIN no contact, instead he received a text from Practice Plus yesterday at 7.30 am saying sorry we couldn't see you, please contact your GP!
Clearly Practice Plus Group are not fulfilling their contract obligations to provide out of hours care!

Everything goes wrong, and they really don't care enough to even try understand. As to medical competence, I would not tryst them to assess a dead gerbil and the only person l would wish to be treated by them is Vladimir Putin.

Poor Check Up

These mobile eye clinics have been checking my Grandad's eyes since December 2023, and he was told they were okay until today! - My Grandad had an appointment about his glaucoma and was told today that his eyes needed urgent treatment (injections) and now has an urgent referral to get treatment. It is astonishing that this was not discovered and reported during the many checkups in the mobile eye clinics.

my hip replaced on march 7th

I had my hip replaced on march 7th. I can’t tell how good this place is. From the surgeon to the ladies doing the teas and coffee’s you could no fault anybody. The nurses were brilliant no matter what time of day or night. It made my stay a 100% better than I ever thought possible.a

What a waste of time this lot are

What a waste of time this lot are. In the past four years I have been passed around between One Health, Connect Health and this unhelpful and unsympathetic lot. I am in constant pain with my back, legs and arms due to a herniated disc impinging on a nerve. This latest excuse of a so called health professional was condescending, unsympathetic and downright disrespectful and just wanted to refer me back to my GP. How about trying to help instead of talking down to me like I was a four year old. Hang your heads in shame you bunch of useless, unprofessional witch doctors.

Practice plus group are the medical…

Practice plus group are the medical team at newhall prison in Wakefield.They are the worst people I have ever come across in all my life even been in the medical profession myself.Their attitude towards prisoners is despicable.Its deeply worrying to think these people really are medical professionals.Even the prison officer’s despair at the neglect and abuse of their lack of humanity.Why this is allowed I will never know.They show sheer contempt for prisoners and when prisoners become suicidal they are punished by transferring them to the segregation block where numerous women have committed suicide.There are only about 2% of the practice plus group that are approachable and that alone is terrifying.A investigation into this group should be prioritized as so many people are suffering at the hands of these people.

Hip Replacements

I have had two hip replacements at Shepton Mallet Hospital in the last 4 months. One paid for privately and one under NHS. This hospital is what other NHS hospitals need to aspire to and is what we, the public, dream our NHS should be like. Everything about this hospital is excellent from start to finish in every department but what sets this hospital apart from others is the amazing staff in all areas.

Self Funded Hip Replacement

I decided to self fund with practice plus to avoid having to wait for a hip replacement on NHS. The waiting time with Practice Plus from first contact was 6 weeks. Surgeon and Anaesthetist were excellent. Nursing staff and Physio team after operation were good. Practice Plus were the least expensive by far but do not provide what you would expect paying privately. No private room, a ward with 4 people. I had to fast for 18 hours and after the operation was only offered a sandwich as nobody had bothered to order me a meal. Was discharged the day after the operation. Was told the wound was glued but it was in fact stapled which meant that I had to see my GP and acquire a staple removing tool.
The equipment supplied on discharge was good. Also good service from porter.

The doctor didn’t know what he was…

The doctor didn’t know what he was seeing me for, he didn’t even know what was wrong with my knee, he was just finding excuses and then said he didn’t know what was wrong.

It was a waste of money for the treatment I received (£95)

Cholecystectomy /Gallbladder removal. Fantastic & highly recommended!

After being told that it will be a two year wait to remove my gallbladder, I started shopping around privately. Everywhere in my area was £7,500-£8,000 so I was thrilled and relieved to find Practice Plus for significantly cheaper with only a three to four week wait. I found the administration team helpful and a simple process to book a consultation, however, there were a few miscommunications which caused a bit of a headache along the way. Firstly, I was told that I could have the procedure done at Southampton which is only 40 mins drive each way for me. However, after receiving my quote, it stated Pratice Plus in Shepton Mallet which is a 3-4 hour round trip. I called to enquire only to be told that they only do open surgery there, not keyhole. After agreeing to go the further distance, I was reassured that I would only need to go up for a consultation appointment and then again for surgery. However, two weeks before my surgery, I was called to arrange a time to go up just for a blood test within 6 days prior to surgery. I was quite cross about this as it had never been mentioned and a massive inconvenience to arrange child care, work commitments etc.. with it being such a long distance to go for less than half an hour. I found it quite inflexible that I wasn’t able to have the blood test at another Pratice Plus location such as Southampton which is nearer. Overall, I feel that the communication was inconsistent and information was quite vague at times. However, on the day of surgery, I cannot fault anything. The staff were professional, so kind and I felt really taken care of. The practice is very clean and well maintained. At every step of the way, everything was explained to me and the surgeon came to speak to me beforehand and answered all of my questions. Although, I didn’t have my own room afterwards (which the admin team advised I would likely get, being a paid patient), I was put in a quiet space and the nurse looking after me was lovely. I got to go home on the same day, was given clear instructions on medication and care. I did not have to return to the clinic afterwards and I had no problems with my recovery. I am very thankful that I found Pratice Plus as I was unable to afford the ridiculously high prices near me or wait two years. Thanks to them, I am able to move on with my life, be pain free and feel well again without being bankrupt! I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Slightly frustrated

Had a consultation and both shoulders injected no problem. The problems arose when trying to contact Barlborough Hospital to pay my invoice, firstly the invoice came with no telephone number for payment. It says pay by back and then call my private health Co-ordinator to let them know I have paid I assume. So I thought ring and pay. I rang the number for practice plus group and no options were relevant to my needs. I got through to a lady who said I had to ring Barlborough direct and proceeded to give me a telephone number which turns out to be wrong it just put me back in touch with the main circle health reception. The receptionist said it was right and was a little rude. But after investigating on the Internet I got the direct number which was different as I suspected. I have rang and finance was busy and told someone would ring me back. 5 hours still nothing. Now the hospital can chase me. Sorry but admin and telephone numbers, options on phoning are very poor.

Hip replacement operation

Hip replacement operation - stayed in for 24 hours. Staff very friendly and helpful. Seen by surgeon and anaethestist before the operation to discuss any concerns or issues. Operation went smoothly. In a ward with 1 other person. Nurses prompt to come and assist if needed. Food was acceptable! Physio came to get me up and about as planned. Discharged when ready promptly and efficiently. Overall excellent treatment

No Complaints, Excellent Job.

I went to Practice Plus Plymouth recently for a total hip replacement. I was very pleased with the timescale for my initial consultation and for my operation. Communication was excellent.
I was treated with care and respect at all times. When I was admitted, the consultant, anesthetist and nursing staff were all very friendly and put me at ease. The overall care was outstanding.
My only (very minor) disappointment was my room. Compared to the rest of the ward, it was quite dark and shabby looking and could do with redecoration to match its surroundings. However, it's just a room and took nothing away from the care.
I would use PP Plymouth again and am happy to recommend.

I received excellent medical care from…

I received excellent medical care from this unit. It was good value for money. However, I was disappointed with the time span between my initial consultancy appointment and my final discharge after surgery. This was too long. I agreed to have surgery on 16th October 2023. I was completely discharged on 6th January 2024. That is 82 days.
I had 4 pre-surgery appointments. I had to do a 40 miles round trip to the hospital every time, most of the appointments lasted less than 5 minutes.
You may think 40 miles is not a long way to travel, however, if you are nursing a hernia and travelling on potholed roads, it feels like eternity.
I believe that the first 3 appointments could have been merged into 1 appointment, thereby saving time and being kinder to the environment.
Further, I think that patient-hospital communications could have been better: I was receiving information by dribs and drabs by letter and sometimes by last-minute phone calls.
