I am not,nor have I ever been,a customer of Optical Express.
On 23 August I was struck on the head by a football which bent my spectacles. I called their Johnstone,Renfrewshire shop this morning and was asked to call in to have them looked at. I went in and Rebecca spent ten minutes working on my frame and eventually got it back to where it should be. I thanked her for her pleasent demeanour,care and time in helping me. She stated that there was no cost and refused to take a donation to their 'tea club' altho I made a donation to a charity tin on the copunter.
She was excellent,went above and beyond but would not take anything for her work. I am NOT and never have been a customer - BUT I will be from now on.
Well done Optical Express and thank you.

Optical express lense replacement

My wife and I both had £14.000 worth or eye surgery and we wish we had gone elsewhere, the treatment has been worth having but the follow up service has been dreadfully poor . We both were due telephone consultations following our surgery and at the appointed times Optical Express failed to keep these appointments and couldnt offer any explanation when we complained.
Additionally on the day of the surgery we were left in a waiting room for nearly four hours for no apparent reason other than a 20 minute pre surgery examinations ; there were other customers who were waiting for 2 hrs after their alloted appointment times and they had to complain to staff in order to be seen .
Optical Express were very efficient though with regards to getting their hands on our money .
GO ELSEWHERE FOR YOUR LENSE REPLACEMENT

kept waiting for 2 hours just to have a consultation noone offer me anything or explain wahy am i beeing kept waiting than the quote was redicilours and top it all up consultation is suppouto be free week later still havent got my money absolutelky disguasting

We got there!

Having had a bit of a time with it after unsuccessful surgery - I want to report, I have had corrective surgery and I now have great vision. The practitioners I got to know over the two years since the first attempt really looked out for me in the end and it was definitely worth sticking with it!! Thank you!!

Brilliant service from start to finish

Brilliant service from start to finish! All of the staff are personable,friendly and very competent. I am delighted with my surgery and aftercare!
Highly recommend to anyone thinking of getting laser eye surgery to go with Optical Express Tallaght.

I had Lens Replacement surgery in March…

I had Lens Replacement surgery in March and I could see from day one but did air that the left eye didn’t feel the same as the right and the only way I could describe the issue was like I had grit in the eye and the distance has got worse. You receive 5 post operation consultations and I used three of these for the issues raised from day one that my left eye was painful and the other two were booked over the phone and not received which means now I have to pay for any consultations even though the original raised concerns about my left eye was from day one. On my last consultation I was advised I require laser but will have to wear contact lenses as requested to see what laser treatment will be required but this will cost me a further £200 even though it wasn’t advised by the consultant and is part of the consultancy that is on-going I still have to pay. If the issue was resolved as it was part of the original operation and the values of customer care and the cost of the procedure was taken into account rather than always trying to take more money off me I would have been happy with the process. I have had to log a complaint which will take another 3-4 weeks and without doubt at additional cost to me and without a finish line in sight (excuse the pun) I have no choice due to the discomfort to continue to finance the consultancy appointments to conclude. Please just please be aware of the hidden charges and the on going cash cow of the business trying to take hundreds and hundreds of pounds from you that should have been part of the duty of care from day one of on-going complaint, I’m now in no man’s land with this issue reported straight away with the comments from Optical Express, this was in your terms and conditions, not sure how they sleep at night.

total false advertising by Optical…

total false advertising by Optical express. they advertise laser surgery from €895 per eye, depending on your prescription and that cost will be determined at your consultation.
I get a call before my consultation and i am advised that it is €1495 per eye, i question and am told 'no one ever qualifies for the €895 price' !!!! -why advertise this if it is untrue? i then queried my healthcare discount as it states on their website 'VHI members are entitled to a 15% discount on laser eye surgery' - surprisingly that is also false!! told i wouldn't be spending enough on my treatment to get the 15% discount ?? doesn't say that anywhere. AVOID as they are scamming customers on their false costs and discounts

So please with my sight!

I have had extreme short sightedness since birth, which was getting worse and the NHS wouldn’t touch me until cataract eventually caused blindness which was imminent. So at the age of 59 I decided to take the plunge and have lense replacement treatment privately despite the cost.
I read up a lot prior to going ahead with Optical Express but am pleased I chose this company.
Although it is undoubtedly a business run to gain your money, I found that the staff were really professional and supportive. I was given retinal scans due to my complicated eyes which was completed at my request at my local optical express instead of having to venture to Harley Street. I also came down with covid a week to the day of my operation and they hung onto the last minute for 2 negative tests instead of the stress of cancelling and causing all sorts of logistical problems for me. Nicola was amazing!
On the day of the op again the clinical team prior were very attentive and the surgeon (Demetri) who I had met previously again talked me through how the procedure would work giving me every confidence in his skill set. Once in theatre, I was put at ease, we had some nice jazz playing and although I chose to proceed without sedation it was available at all points should I change my mind. The procedure took approximately 7 mins per eye and I felt no pain at all only a slight tugging sensation which I had been prepared for. Once finished I was sat up and could already see the staff I hadn’t been able to identify as anything other then a fuzz and on being escorted from the theatre could then see Dimetri and my husband at the end of the corridor waiting for me. Really incredible feeling!
I was a little queasy after the op and if I have 1 crtitic it would be that I was rushed from the recovery room too fast. ( I think the mission is to move the patients along like a conveyer belt) however, this was rectified after 5 mins as I felt poorly and my blood pressure was low. A senior nurse quickly provided a cup of tea and some toast together with a lounger chair and a rest.
My sight was amazing from the word go, I can now see distance and detail like never before and would highly recommend this treatment. I will never be without glasses as I have an astigmatism and very complex eyes but to be able to see without glasses, to walk around and have varifocals for work and reading is incredible. To have a choice of frames in an opticians is amazing, this has never been available to me and to pay a quarter or less for my glasses is well worth the expense of the op. I am now 3 months down the line and Optical express have changed my view and my life.

I arranged a consultation and within a week I had my eye surgery. What a life changing experience,I have wore glasses since a young child, I could see immediately after, no pain, watery eyes or itchiness after. It has changed my life. Colin and the whole crew working there are just fantastic in every way. I was completely at ease talked through every stage. Extremely Dissatisfied with Optical Express - Unresolved Vision Problems and Lack of Adequate Support

I am writing this review to express my extreme dissatisfaction with Optical Express and the laser eye surgery I underwent in 2015. Despite their claims of being a reputable provider, my experience has been nothing short of a nightmare.

After the surgery, I was left with a host of vision problems that were not adequately addressed by Optical Express. Firstly, I now require glasses to see properly, which defeats the purpose of the surgery. Additionally, I developed an astigmatism in my right eye, causing further visual distortions and difficulties. I have immense trouble perceiving white objects against a dark background, and now even have 'visual snow' and dark shadows in my right eye when looking at anything bright which causes me to have severe headache and petrifies me. Moreover, I have been suffering from dry eyes upon waking up, forcing me to spend my own money on expensive eye drops for the past eight years.

My attempts to reach out to Optical Express for assistance during the aftercare period were met with negligence and unresponsiveness. They failed to address my concerns and misled me about the healing process. It became apparent that their focus was solely on financial gain, rather than ensuring patient satisfaction and well-being.

The recent response from Optical Express, claiming that the issues I am facing are solely due to natural changes over time, is unacceptable. These problems have significantly affected my quality of life and are indicative of substandard surgical outcomes. The suggestion that I pay for further procedures and consultations, after having already spent a substantial amount on the initial surgery, is nothing short of a money-making scheme.

I implore anyone considering laser eye surgery to think twice before trusting Optical Express. Their lack of accountability, inadequate aftercare, and dismissive attitude towards patient concerns have left me deeply disappointed and frustrated. I hope that sharing my experience will serve as a cautionary tale for others and encourage Optical Express to improve their services and take responsibility for their actions.

It is crucial that potential patients are aware of the risks and shortcomings associated with Optical Express. Seek out other reputable providers and thoroughly research your options before making any decisions regarding your vision health.

I sincerely hope that no one else has to endure the same ordeal I have faced with Optical Express.

I had the nose pads on my glasses replaced at the Gyle store.
Excellent service. Very quick and professional and pleased with the results.
Would recommend for all your optical needs.

It's not the money it's people who care that matters most

Had lens replacement surgery in Glasgow thanks to the team in edinburgh,thanks to Paul and liz,they got me a quick appointment in Glasgow for my surgery where Dr David teenan and his team took over,the professionalism of all both in edin/Glasgow is second to none thank you all for such a pleasant experience 47 days from start to finish back driving my taxi and I'm 71 years old you saved my career

Multi Focal Lens Replacement

Had multi focal lens replacement surgery in Chelmsford branch. Initially ok but soon suffered from fogging and photophobia (night and daytime glare) which is getting worse. I now need sunglasses Indoors as well. Was told a YAG was necessary in both eyes to clear the fogging. Surgeon agreed to Yag one eye per separate visit and extend my after care accordingly. Had the first Yag but now ignoring all requests to arrange the second. Another of their opticians stated I may need the multi focals changed for clear lenses to stop the glare. Suggest to get anything they offer in writing.
I’ll be going legal in a few days if I'm still being ignored after a recent stumble and hospital trip to A and E.

Don’t be fobbed off people.

Cataract Surgery

I had cataract surgery done on my right eye, the staff at St Vincent St Glasgow were brilliant, very attentive and caring and that also goes for the staff at the shop on Union St Aberdeen, they couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. As I was very concerned about the eye treatment the staff put me at my ease from the word go, it was a very painless experience. Thank You.

0 stars disgusting customer service

0 stars, closed my local branch and didn’t inform only found out when I ran out of contact lenses apparently it is illegal to wear contacts if you have not had a check within 12 months I had been wearing mine for 14 months, no duty of care! Lied to repeatedly from call centre staff and instore staff currently fighting for my prescription to be sent to me so I can go elsewhere disgusting customer service, they obviously do not care about there customers, only profit, go elsewhere for eye care as they don’t care

Cancel your treatment

Found the consultation process very impersonal. The 'presurgery expert check' was a lady in a call centre reading off a script who couldn't even answer my questions about if it is ok to take a betablocker on the day.

Then my surgery was cancelled on the day only just hours before. The lady who called was unapologetic and said that the head office will hopefully call me to rearrange some time, not very reassuring.

Very unreliable

Booked a cataract lens survey , went to oxford from wallingford and the lab technician was off sick. They didnt bother letting me know, a day off work! Nice manners

Can’t see clearly……who cares!!

I haven’t been happy with my last pair of lenses and trying to get the problem resolved is impossible, I have received the wrong lens and subsequently sent, only to receive the wrong lenses again, despite my best efforts over months and contract with them for many years, they clearly don’t want my business, no one is interested and eye strain is becoming the norm!!
