I booked a XLWB Luton van on 5th January. They debited £970 from my account. Emailed to say they had an issue with payment and had cancelled my booking and I would receive a full refund!! 21 days later...no refund...no answering the phones...no response to emails...Now in the hands of my bank to resolve
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS
I am still waiting (and I won't get) my £2750 deposit back from last August (2025) against a fairly shabby mini bus - AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS - I am in small court arena trying to get my money but sadly their registered address doesn't exist! Shoddy experience on all levels, unprofessional at best, criminals at worst!
Absolutely appalling
Absolutely appalling. Don’t go near them. We hired a van for Friday evening so we could move our friends to London. An hour before the van was due to be delivered they called and said they couldn’t deliver it until between 1-3 pm the following day. We reluctantly agreed. At 4pm the van had still not arrived, no call from them, offices closed and no way to contact them. We had ni messages, texts or phone calls. We cancelled the van. Now let’s see if we get a refund. They are totally unreliable
Deposit of £2,000 not returned, no answer on the phone
Like many other reviews we have not received our deposit back. (Wish I had looked on here before hiring from this company).
We are a small Scout group, and hire 2 minibuses end of July 25. Since then we have been trying to get our £2k deposit back. We are disputing a cleaning charge, and unfortunately a rear window broke when sliding door closed on the other bus, but we cannot talk to anyone. Phone goes dead after 40 mins, emails are ignored. Have been emailing and calling since mid August (4 months). Steer clear !!!!

Rented x2 vans in July 25, we have been chasing our deposits since then - they owe £500 for the deposits. They have taken money from our account without authorisation as well. Had to log a claim with our bank which it loads of hassle

Horrible experience
Van booked for 9.30am, turned up at 12.30pm. Could not contact anyone, no communication from them.
When we needed to leave they hadn't collected the van at the arranged time, we waited 3 hours and tried making contact by online form, email and phone to no avail. We had a 4 hour drive home and had to leave the van at the house we'd moved out of, in a private bay, and leave the keys with someone nearby! They turned up two days later! Took a security deposit that hasn't been returned after four weeks. I've put hours and hours of time into trying to make contact/get my deposit back with no luck
Horrendous people
Horrendous people. Stay clear! Hired a van back in 2023, they are now chasing me for a supposed chip in windscreen for £780! threatening to take me to court. Interested to know if they have taken others to court for "supposed" damages to vans etc....even though I understand they don't even own most of the vans they hire out anyway!

Very frustrating, I have phoned and emailed so many times to get my Deposit refund, it has been since the 3rd of September. When they do answer the phone after a very long wait, i am told that this has been esculated ? It has now been 4 months. I have had only one reply to my many emails. Please do not use this company.

Wish I could give zero stars. This company are complete crooks. Stole my £250 deposit and my written notification of prosecuting them was redirected and returned. Unbelievable that all we can do is leave trust pilot reviews.
Unprofessional and financial issues…
The company despite various reminders and chasers hasn't returned the security deposit. I understand they dont take deposits anymore but it's the unprofessionalism which is reflected snd would show in other dealings too
Misleading, Unreliable, and Poor Customer Service

I booked a 9‑seater vehicle with Nationwide Vehicle Rentals nearly two months in advance for a critical family trip. At the last minute, they cancelled my booking, claiming there were “no alternatives available.” This left me scrambling for accessible transport during the busiest travel period of the year.
Their customer service is appalling — phone lines that never get answered even after waiting over an hour, dismissive emails, and a refusal to provide proper compensation. To make matters worse, while telling me no vehicles were available, their own website was still advertising the exact same 9‑seater (Mercedes Vito) for the dates I needed. That is misleading and feels fraudulent.
A refund alone does not cover the stress, wasted time, and disruption caused. Offering a token £50 voucher is insulting when I had to face the risk of losing my trip altogether.
Nationwide Vehicle Rentals failed to deliver the service promised, misrepresented availability, and showed no accountability. I will be escalating this to Trading Standards and strongly advise others to avoid this company.

This company is the biggest fraud. I cancelled my booking and was being told will get refund back in 28days.
Nothing happend and 40days past by. I sent them many emails on reservations and customer service no response and called many times on the 0300 number which noone picks up. Then I sent final email after reading some trust pilot review and mentioned Court Action in subject and I got response and got money back.

Do not use as they withhold the deposit I eventually got it back in 2024 after chasing for two months . Used them again this year had a rental for 4 months returned in September 2025 I am still chasing for the deposit of £250 they do not answer emails, phone etc . I have now threatened with court action still no response.
My advice would be do not use.

Booked a premium car for an important business meeting and it didn’t disappoint. The vehicle was immaculate, comfortable, and made a great impression. Smooth pickup and excellent service throughout.

I’ve rented from Nationwide multiple times now, and they never disappoint. Always punctual, professional, and dependable. Truly the best in the business.
Still not returned deposit
Leaving aside that the van hired to us looked like it had been used for troop movements in an urban war zone, it was at least reliable and all the damage properly recorded.
The van was collected a day late and confirmed that no additional damage had been done during the hire period.
Almost 3 months on, Nationwide are still to return the deposit and not responding to any requests for its return.
I can only conclude the company is exceptionally poor, cannot be trusted in any shape or form and are to be avoided at all costs.
Use Enterprise instead - great organisation - avoid Nationwide.
