Evaporator coil issues & unresponsive company
Lennox is one of the most unresponsive companies I’ve ever dealt with. I used their online “contact us” form twice in April 2026 asking basic questions about their HVAC packaged units. I also tried repeatedly by phone to get to the “right” person for answers. Finally spoke with a very polite rep but she couldn’t/wouldn’t answer my main questions. In May 2026, after completing a review of our new Lennox LRP15 HVAC (per their solicitation) I finally got a response. See later in this review.
Lennox HVAC units have a long history of premature evaporator coil failures. In a 2015 class action lawsuit, Lennox had to provide compensation to some customers regarding coils. But of course Lennox denied the claims and accusations in the suit, as the corporate attorneys almost always advise companies to do.
Did they correct the coils problems after that? I can testify that a Lennox LRP16 unit manufactured in 2023 had coils that failed after only 2 summers. And though the coils are warranted for 5-10 years, customers pay all labor & refrigerant charges for the repair ($2,570 for us). In our case, the coils replacement part was not being manufactured anymore so the entire unit had to be replaced by a LRP15 unit.
Perhaps they know that the design/manufacturing changes needed to fix the coils problem haven’t been made because their HVAC warranty now stipulates that you must use arbitration (an arbitrator of their choice of course) to try resolving issues rather than joining a class action suit. Lennox appears to be playing defense instead of aggressively pursuing the improvement of product quality & reliability.
Are they still manufacturing & selling LRP16? Lennox won’t answer that. If so, are they informing customers about the history of premature coil failures on that unit & that the coils replacement part for that unit is no longer being manufactured/available? Yeah, right. And Lennox would probably answer by saying something like “Keep in mind we sell our units to dealers & they communicate product information to end users.”
If the coils fail on our new LRP15 unit just installed will that part be available? Are the coils on this unit essentially the same as the defective ones used for the LRP16? If different, how so (other than different refrigerant, which btw may help lengthen the life of the coils)? Lennox won’t answer those questions either. Which tells me this: they know the honest answers, if said out loud or put in writing, will further tarnish their poor reputation. For us, it’s likely just a matter of time before I’ll be dealing with another labor & refrigerant bill for replacement coils.
On May 26, 2026 Lennox responded by apologizing for my frustration and sent basic warranty information, etc. which emphasizes their favorite part of the warranty… only the parts are covered, not labor or refrigerant.
I appreciate an apology but it is an empty one unless accompanied by a change in behavior or action. We are repeat customers of Lennox HVAC units (2012, 2013, 2023, and 2025 + the replacement unit in 2026). Customer retention is a big deal for business today. Think how I would feel about Lennox if they acknowledged that a customer shouldn’t have to pay $2,570 for a repair after only two summers & decided to cover those charges even though they aren’t legally obligated to do so!! (In 2025, revenue for Lennox was 5.2 billion, with net income of 806 million.)
Their company values, per their website, include “We are always honest, ethical, and safe.” I do not think it is ethical to knowingly sell units that clearly have durability flaws in the coils & for which the replacement part is not available. In fact, per the FTC, failing to disclose important information that could affect a consumer's decision falls under the category of deceptive business practices & involves civil liability. I have submitted this information to the FTC for their consideration.
I will quickly correct the record if Lennox responds & any of the information in this review is proven to be less than accurate or deemed unfair in any way.
I would give them zero stars if I…
I would give them zero stars if I could, and I see by their rating here that most consumers are in agreement.
I spent $20k on a top of the line full HVAC system, heating and cooling, in late 2016. Just over 5 years later the indoor coil cracked and had to be replaced. Lennox provides a 5 year warranty, but the coil cracked at five and a half years old (planned obsolescence?). Apparently there is a 10 year warranty available, but you have to register the system in the first 60 days. Wish I had known that as installer didn't inform me and none of the paper work that I saw indicted registering the system was necessary. Lennox obviously knows when it was installed by tracking the serial number, so pretty lame that they also require registering it in order to get the additional warranty.
I have always had the system professionally maintained, so for the coil to crack in just over 5 years and the compressor to fail in less than 10 says everything you need to know about the lack of quality in Lennox products. Not only are the products total crap and fail prematurely at an extremely high rate, but the company obviously doesn't care about there customers either. Lennox is a sleazy company who's only goal is to make money off the customer by making cheap products that fail early and often. Stay away and tell everyone that you know.

I purchased two HVAC units for my home from Lennox for $30,000 as replacement for two 30 year old Lennox systems. Both new units had coil defects under warranty, but the labor cost to install the replacement parts was $6000. Lennox refuses to cover the labor cost. Beware of their warranty protection where the cost of labor will greatly exceed the cost of the parts.

I will never purchase another lennox product again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! build a fire you will get heat faster. 24 years in bussiness and never seen anything quite like this.
Very Hard Filter Exchange
On March 9th, 2026 White Mechanical installed a new Lennox furnace for us. We were offered an electrostatic air filter option with the Costco purchase, but we declined that expensive option. The installation proceeded as expected and the installer did a very clean and professional job.
However, we asked the installer to demonstrate how to replace the air filter, we were dismayed at the complexity of the replacement. We must remove the outside cover, then using a special tool, remove the interior cover to access the filter. Then, making sure we do not disturb any of the loose wires nearby, we then remove the filter hold-down bracket with the special tool and swap filters. Then carefully replace all the parts & panels in reverse order until restored.
I was dismayed at the complexity of the furnace filter exchange, as the other Lennox furnace we have has a simple door, allowing the filter to be changed in 10 seconds, instead of 10-15 minutes, requiring a special tool. See attached photo. I must admit it, it was my expectation to receive a simple way to replace the filter with the new furnace, being the best brand on the market with a rather expensive install.
White Mechanical offered to install a simple filter box below the furnace, so we can swap filters quickly like downstairs, but the quote was $1,100 more, almost as much as the electronic filter we rejected due to the cost. White Mechanical also offers an annual service program with the first year free, including a filter change. However, after the first year, the annual cost would likely be several hundred dollars. I can’t help but wonder if the filter issue isn’t part of a scheme to create an annual gravy train in service fees. I am also puzzled by the Lennox warranty requirement of annual inspections, which could invalidate future warranty claims, if not followed. Talk about teaming-up against the customer.
Lemon of a product and NO response from Lennox
We installed an AC unit at a condo in December 2021. There are now been 4 catastrophic failures since that time. First, a blower motor failed after 20 months and was replaced. This motor then failed 22 months later and was replaced with an older motor (as told to me by the installation tech). It was to be covered under warranty but I was charged $1300 for the 2 hour replacement. I am fighting this cost with the credit card company and Lennox, but Lennox does not respond. We dropped the original installer, Advanced Air out of Edgewater, FL. I suggest you avoid them!!
Recently the unit lost all refrigerant. A new AC maintenance company we brought in stated that the "caps" were off which would allow refrigerant to escape. He said that these "caps" would not come off on their own but had to be removed. He installed refrigerant and the unit worked for 5 days before failing to cool down again.
I have spoken with Lennox on many occasions over the past 6 months but there has been nothing done.
This unit, both the air handler and compresser needs to be replaced immediately. This product is. without question, a lemon.
I am also concered that the removal of the "caps" was done purposefully. The original company, Advanced Air, has access the the condo roof and has been there recently.
Since Lennox is unresponsive, I must look to go another route, such as the consumer protection division of Florida or the authorities to investigate potential sabotage.
Nothing but problems
Our Lennox air conditioning systems have been nothing but trouble.
The installation itself was sloppy — the installers left garbage and parts from the old system scattered around the attic. We had three air handlers and condensers installed, and issues started showing up within the third year.
It turned out that some of the copper piping had been damaged during installation, which caused a full refrigerant leak. The warranty was basically useless, so we ended up paying out of pocket to fix it and replace the unit.
Another unit wasn’t sealed properly and also leaked refrigerant. It took a lot of back and forth with the installer to avoid paying for their mistake, which was a frustrating process.
On top of that, the three dampers we had installed have also caused problems. And the app is terrible — every time you use it, it pushes you to install a newer version, which somehow manages to be even worse.
I also reached out to Lennox corporate for basic brochures and instructions, but only got automated responses telling me to contact the installer. So from my experience, corporate support has been no help at all.
The main reason we invested in three new systems was to reduce humidity in our Florida home. We were promised this would work, but humidity is still an issue.
All in all, we spent over $20,000 on what was supposed to be a top-of-the-line system and have had nothing but problems. We used a local, family-owned installer, and unfortunately, we’re not happy with them either.
At this point, I’m not even sure there’s a perfect brand — we had Trane before and that wasn’t great either. But based on this experience, I would stay away from Lennox. The prices are high, and the quality just hasn’t been there.
The fan on the unit is not working properly
Based on my current experience, I would advise anyone who is planning to install Lennox furnace to consider carefully and check other manufacturers first.
My unit was installed less then 18 months ago by rather unprofessional, yet Lennox authorized installer.
The fan on the unit is not working which is not only inconvenient, but can be a hazard which breaks the furnace down the road.
I called Lennox support, they said the part is under warranty, the labor to exchange it is not, so I will be out of pocket for any service I get on a practically brand new unit.
I feel like Lennox conveniently shifted their business risk from company's responsibility to customers, which is upsetting, but somehow not surprising.

I contacted Lennox about a HVAC for tech support
I contacted Lennox about a HVAC and a humidifier. The humidifier does not have voltage to the water solenoid. The tech support would not provide any hookup diagrams to check that the humidifier was hookup to the proper terminal location. Told me to call a tech. I am a retired engineer and electrician. I am more than qualified.

As a reminder to anyone buying a new…
As a reminder to anyone buying a new home be sure to register your air handler, condensor, heat pump, etc. separately. Don't just register one piece of equipment. You must register each and every piece. If you do not register within 60 days you will have no 3 year labor and 7 year parts warranty. I would bet that 95% of people do not know this fact and new home builders and/or installers might not tell you. Who likes warranty work? If you were told consider yourself lucky. This is just my opinion. Do your own research!
One last point, Lennox Consumer Affairs said this to me via email, "Unfortunately, we cannot control what information the builder or the installing contractor provides consumers." Wow...that is so wrong.
Poorly Made HVAC System, Company does not Back their Product
In 2023 I purchased a 100K BTU 90-95 AFUE Gas Furnace. It cost me over $12,000.
Just recently I had a technician inform me that the circuit board blew out. The unit is rarely used as I live in Southern California. It is less than 2 years old.
The part was covered under warranty, however the labor cost about $850.
I called Lennox Consumer Affairs to see if they can assist me with some of the labor cost since the unit was faulty. The represented said there is nothing that they can do.
Item is poorly made; I would avoid purchasing any of their products as they do not support customers.
Horrible horrible horrible
Horrible horrible horrible, they need to get their customer service and tech support under control, I've had a customer with a failing control board for weeks now and you're either on hold for hours and never get through or they tell you to call back later and no callback option for you, the new boards they've update for the ELUH don't work and I can't get through to anyone to get a resolution. Absolutely ridiculous.
Awful customer service
Awful customer service. I am a gasfitter/contractor and couldnt get tech support without being registered. Everytime I called they were 'experiencing high call volume'. No call back option, you just have to waste more of your time. I tell me customers to avoid Lennox at all costs. Also, parts are outrageously over priced.
Lennox Air Conditioners and the customer service were Horrible. I would never buy Lennox again.
I bought 2 Lennox air conditioners, a 4 ton and a 5 ton unit for a newly purchased homebecause I was told they were the best companies. I wanted very good units for this expensive home. One day after installation, the first unit broke and was making noise. It was a poorly installed motor bracket which had to be replaced. The next day the second AC unit broke. I It was not cooling. The unit had adefective heating strip that was staying on inappropriately. My AC installers disconnected it and we had to wait weeks for parts. When I got my FPL bill, my FPL bill was $50 extra for those 3 days the unit was running with a faulty heat strip. I had to pay FPL $150 extra for those 3 days because of a defect in the machine which took weeks in the Florida summer to repair. I called up Lennox, who have really poor customer service and keep you waiting forever, and complained and asked to be reimbursed for the extra $150 their brand new unit had cost me in power bills for 3 days. They said they wouldn't reimburse me even thought it was their defective machine which caused me to have to pay $150 extra. Two brand new Lennox units each broke within 24 hours of installation. No one in Lennox seems to care. They had no sympathy or empathy. They could't care the least about both of their new AC units breaking on day 2 nor about their customers or customer satisfaction. . All they seem to want to do is deny problems and any claim. I would never buy Lennox again because of their products breaking and because of really horrible customer service and caring of the company about their customers and feedback.
No warranty unless you pay them for annual service.
We bought a top of the line HVAC system that worked great for a couple of years. When we had a problem and needed it fixed, Lennox told us that our warranty was no good because we hadn’t paid them to service it yearly. We had it serviced by another company but the Lennox tech said they didn’t do a very good job so no warranty coverage. This is a scam and I will report it to the BBB. Caveat emptor!
