Captain Chill’s review of my large Harvest Right Freeze Dryer purchased on 07/30/2025:
On 8 of 2025, it started to take excessively long to get below freezing despite trays being pre-frozen (6 to 9 hour). The appliance dealer I bought it from was absolutely wonderful. They had me try 5 or 6 home tests after consulting with Harvest Right, even contacting the factory for a replacement since harvest was in full swing. This took 3 to 5 weeks to complete.
On 10/24/2025, I contacted Harvest Right to let them know I was getting a message that my freeze dryer was not cooling and that I should contact customer support.
After a week or two of home testing/diagnosing, they wanted me to go out and buy a flash drive and do some more testing and send them the flash drive. When I balked at this, since I had been repeating these tests since August, they agreed to ship it back to the factory where it remained for two months. They forgot to send me a shipping label and it was an ordeal to get one printed.
Upon it’s return, it has been functioning properly for the last 15 or 16 batches. Other than the noise factor, it performs flawlessly now.
My support tech was very patient, professional, and courteous despite being evasive with her answers. When I asked her for a replacement, she said it was denied by her supervisor. When I asked where they got the units that were factory reconditioned, she told me from customers who were having issues with theirs. When I asked why I couldn’t be afforded the same courtesy of cross shipping a used unit so I would not miss harvest, she was very evasive and refused to answer.
While my support tech was great, the service itself from the factory was substandard.

I purchased the Harvest Right XL Pro Freeze Dryer originally as a fun project for our foster kids. They were excited about making freeze-dried candy to sell, and while their interest eventually faded, the machine definitely didn’t — we still use it regularly and absolutely love it.

The performance has been great. It handles large batches really well, which is exactly what we needed with the XL size. The results are consistent and it’s surprisingly easy to run once you get used to the process.

About two years after purchasing it we did have an issue come up, but Harvest Right honored the warranty without any hassle. Their support team handled the warranty side well, which gave me confidence in the company and the investment.

The only frustrating part was finding someone locally willing to look at the machine. Because it’s not quite commercial equipment, not standard refrigeration, and not typical HVAC, it was surprisingly difficult to find a technician who would even agree to diagnose it. That part of the process was honestly the most annoying. It might be really helpful if Harvest Right developed a network of contracted service providers in each state so customers have someone local they can call when issues come up.

My only other minor complaint is cosmetic — I wish the machines came in more fun colors instead of the standard options. When you’re using something this often, it would be nice to have a little personality to it.

Overall, it’s been a fantastic purchase and something we continue to use regularly. If you’re thinking about getting into freeze-drying food or candy, the XL Pro is absolutely worth it.

I’ve had a Medium Harvest Right freeze drier for a few years now. We got it initially to sell candy and sold enough to pay for the machine, supplies and our time. Now I use it for our own food storage, food gifts, dog food/treats and anything else we think of! We love it! It is so easy to use and there are lots of accessories and recipes available for use. It is a large upfront investment but totally worth it for us!

Has worked well so far. Customer service has been extremely helpful and thorough. I have been able to purchase accessories and needed oil directly through the website. I have had no issues.

We are extremely happy with our machine ! It was easy to use and they have great customer service . We had one small issue with the adjusting the seal , but Denisha C helped us through the process of adjusting it and it turned out to be such an easy fix . The food items come out are excellent and the app is incredibly helpful and easy to use with directions and guidance for many items. We use this to make snacks for our kids and also for preserving food items from our garden or when we over buy so it has easily saved us money and has quickly paid for itself .

This freeze dryer is made very well. It feels high-quality. And the company has excellent customer service. I’ve contacted them a couple of times and for tech support, they make an appointment with you and follow up to make sure everything is fine. I feel as if I have made a new friend out of the experience! They were that helpful.

HarvestRight was one of the sponsors of and presenters in an online program I was participating in about homesteading. It was the education that the HarvestRight (HR) rep provided during this program that first drew me to freeze drying (FD) as a food preservation method. He wasn't pushy about HR products. His focus was on making freeze drying possible AND practical in the home. How refreshing to get an honest appraisal rather than a sales pitch! Still, a FD is an investment. I did my own research and found no other brands matched the quality at a price point I was comfortable with. I was completely confident about purchasing my unit.
I easily obtained an appointment for technical support and spoke with a customer service agent who was phenomenal at talking me through various processes, checking in with me a day later, and emailing me links to videos made by HR for their products. They also have an app which I do recommend installing.
The main reason I'm rating 4 stars is because I found the owner's manual to be a bit confusing. Everything in the manual is important. I knew I read something about a burn-in period or a test run of the unit but I could not find it again. Well, the burn-in period is mentioned in just one paragraph in the section on Freeze Dryer Assembly. Oddly, It is not mentioned at all in the section on Running Your First Batch. The manual also never mentions that the HR logo on the screen is the button for accessing the diagnostics for how the system is functioning.
I was frustrated for a day or so until Customer Service helped me out. It was me doing something wrong. The unit was and is functioning just fine. My experience with the HarvestRight Home Freeze Dryer has been very positive overall. There is so much more to learn. I'm exciting to try new FD recipes.

When I first saw this freeze dryer from harvest right, show up on my feed on my phone.I was curious , so I purchased one. Little did I know that it would change my life for the better. I have never been so in love with an item that I've purchased like I am with this freeze dryer.There is so much you can do.The possibilities are just endless and you can eat for a lifetime by learning to preserve your food for years to come. What an excellent choice I made in signing my name on the dotted line , so to speak..

I love my freeze dryer! Harvest Right is great! We use it all year long. Great fit food storage, backpacking, camping, snacks for sports, etc...

Love love love the ease with Food Preservation with our Large Freeze Dryer from Harvest Right has given me.

I am a Canner but jars are so heavy & take up so much more room than Freeze Dried. Plus Canned Food once processed has a mushy texture & taste, whereas Freeze Dried Food does not. Therefore, Harvest Right has changed my choice in Long Term Food Preservation. FD Food's Nutrition is good for 25 years instead of 1 year with traditional canning.

I definitely recommend this purchase.

Great customer service!
I was very disappointed to have my oil less pump rebuilt in under fifty loads. My pump was very loud from the first use (probably my fault we were renting and eager to try the freeze dryer and ran probably 15-20 loads without having on its own 20-amp circuit.
The harvest right team is awesome, and I received my rebuilt pump and it works great!

I have had my freeze dryer for over a year now and am very happy with it. I had several issues achieving a vacuum seal, and one caused my freeze dryer to fill with water in the middle of the freezing process. I emailed Harvest Right, and they were very helpful. They walked me through the steps to find out what happened and see if I could fix it. When they found out it was nothing I could fix, they sent me the necessary packing materials and had their shipper pick it up for repairs. They are very informative and let me know almost daily which step in the process they are taking to fix my machine. They found out my condenser was seized because it couldn't achieve a vacuum seal. They replaced my condenser, door gasket, drain hose, and power switch at no charge because of their great warranty. I am very happy with Harvest Right and their staff.

I have used my machine for 6 batches so far and really like it! It’s not for every household since it’s so specialized, but it works great and the customer service is fantastic!

After years of debating on whether to make such an investment or not, I finally purchased one. I do not regret it! Worth every dime.
Customer service has been incredible! A connection had come loose in shipping, and they had it diagnosed and up and running in about 10 minutes of my call.
