Awful marketing techniques. Got sent a text to my gumtree ad with a very generic "Hey. Would you be happy to rent this to me? Happy to go through fatlama.com so it’d be insured?"

After politiely replying they didn't respond for ages, I did a google and found loads of people saying the same thing, only in their case they only realised after they had posted the ad on fatlama and got no more responses from the interested party. Totally DISGUSTING method of advertising and I'll be telling everyone i know to steer clear of them.

Rented a camper for the bank holiday weekend and cannot recommend it enough! Fat Lama and the lender were all so great and easy to work with. Got a great price for the camper, way more reasonable than other places and overall pleased with pick up location and return. Would recommend to others :)

I also believe the site admins are paying or are promoting the site themselves. I first encountered a fatlama reference when I was selling a gaming PC on Gumtree, I said it was a weird thing to do, especially for a custom made PC by a non professional consumer, they could easily pull out parts and send them back faulty.

My first encounter was today, this is undeniable evidence something fishy is going on, either a scammer on Fatlama using Gumtree to find items or Fatlama themselves trying to get some attention they don't have. I literally mean this as when I checked it out back in the end of 2017, there was nothing at all to rent in my area, their live chat popped up and they asked me for any issues, I said there's nothing available in my area, they confirmed this and said not all areas will have users. Okay... Back to the story.

I listed an i7-3770 desktop processor, and another i7-3612qm laptop processor on Gumtree. I get 2 texts from 2 different numbers. One for each item, they read exactly this...
'Re: *advert name*-...

Hey. Would you be happy to rent this to me? Happy to go through fatlama.com so it’d be insured?'
The numbers started with 074419 and the rest of the numbers were different. The first thing that smelt fishy to me was the fact that the same person enquired about two completely different processors, one is a PGA CPU made for laptops whilst the other is your standard desktop CPU made for towers. Then the next dodgy point, why would you want both? A processor is not something you'd rent either...

Stay clear from Fatlama, don't think this site will be around much longer

Fake texts sent to my Gumtree advert pretending to be an interested party who would rather rent my item.

This needs some form of watchdog on these guys, especially with the new GDPR rules I'm pretty sure this is illegal.

This company seems to be sending blanket fake responses to gumtree users pretending to be a buyer as a way to advertise their services.
I’ve never used them but this is a super shady method of advertising and wastes everyone’s time.
Whoever is running fatlama needs to get this sorted.
It’s completely unacceptable.

For the amount I pay for rent and the space I have for all my stuff, fat Lama has changed my life Lol. For all the stuff that I too scared to throw away because one day I will use it and that day has arrived!! I'm making money renting things that I don't have room for or don't use everyday. I even got my mum into it ( If she can do it anyone can)

I had a few issues with my card details getting accepted which was really annoying. The customer service team were amazing in helping me sort everything out. As this is my first time renting, I'll try again and see what happens then. Keep an eye out for a second review.

This is really worth a try!! For my dad's 50th I planned a quick weekend away and found an awesome campervan. The lender that I'm dealing with has been amazing throughout this whole booking. Oh and you get some money off being a first time buyer ( whats not to love)

I used Fat Lama to rent out my PA system. A stand was returned broken. Not their fault I know but they offer insurance and I've followed their procedure exactly so this shouldn't be a problem right? I raised the issue with Fat Lama by following their procedure to report a problem. Fat Lama have been obstructive a difficult the entire time. I have fulfilled all their requests and still have no resolution. I was ignored for two weeks at first, so I contacted them directly. I was sent a link to a form, which I filled out and returned immediately. Again nothing happened for weeks, so I contacted them again. "Oh we we're just about to deal with this." Can you please send us more timestamped before and after photos. Again I did this immediately. Two weeks later... "Can you send us some more detailed photos." The item is literally a speaker stand, its worth £19 and the damage is perfectly clear. Another two weeks go by.. "Can you get the item inspected by a third party to asses the damage and determine the cost of repair." From the photos its obvious it cannot be repaired, a whole new one is only £19. At this point I'd spent more time than its worth chasing a £19 insurance claim. Not wanting to disappoint I arrange an engineering company to conduct a thorough inspection of the stand at a cost of approx £100. They confirm its smashed and replacement is a more cost effective than repair. I send Fat Lama the report and have been ignored ever since. Finding their problem resolution process useless I have commenced legal action to recover my losses through the small claims court.

Easy way of making some extra cash but....
One of my rentals returned faulty. be sure you read their insurance policy.
They basically told me I am a liar until I prove it differently. and for proof they require a time stamped photo / video showing your item functioning.
Be sure that you have this otherwise damaged / lost / stolen items are not insured as they advertise it!

I'm new to all this and the whole team just made it so easy. I needed a camera for my friends 60th and someone at work recommended I check out Fat Lama. Really glad I did! a little getting used to but once they talk me through the upside down selfie hahhah. I will use this again! me and the girls have a holiday planned, The lender was so nice and helpful, I will rent from him again.

Fat Lama saved my life! This is hands down the best site I've been on for renting. I need more stuff for my gig last minute ans someone recommended the site to me. This the best thing out there ... Hands down! After you get all sorted with the verification team, it all system go. I got all i needed for my weekend concert.

A friend referred to the website and I got £25 credit to use on my first rental. Such a good idea (why didn't I think of this) You pretty much get anything on there.

You want something and you have browse around ( which is really easy) and it tells you who has what in your location.
Had my first rental last week. So far so great

Spam sms sent to my gumtree add offering to rent through fat lama. "Renter" never got back to me after posting and phone number doesn't accept calls.

Someone responded to my gumtree advert asking if they can rent my item using this site. The text message looked suspicious and upon searching came across the other comments here warning about the same.

If you get a similar message just ignore them.
