Victoria, Helen and Azizul at EMG were extremely helpful and efficient in their conveyancing. They responded promptly to all my requests and even followed up with further assistance after completion. I can recommend the team at EMG very highly and it was Incredible value for money.

This company is so bad I am not even sure where to begin.
I instructed them to handle the sale of my late fathers home.
Everything went well dealing with all the initial things, the staff were really on the ball (thanks Claire, Tracey, Laura and Jessica)
I was informed on 12/11/25 that everything would now be handled by Joanne Forster . This is where the problems started.
I did not hear anything for 2 weeks so I emailed her for an update.
There was no reply so I emailed her again a week later. She did not reply.
My brother also emailed her for an update and received no reply.

I was told by the buyer that their solicitors emailed her with 3 different sets of queries on 20/11/25, 24/11/25 and 1/12/25 and had received no reply.

It was only when I emailed Laura Cavagan (who did a wonderful job at the start) on 3/12/25 that I eventually got a reply from Joanne.
She sent a list of actions to me, some of which were already answered on the initial submissions.
I did wonder if she had looked at them properly.
She also stated there was no delay and the buyers had only emailed her on the 1st December. There was no explanation or even acknowledgement of the delays she had caused.

I questioned this as I did not know if she had the queries raised on the previous 2 dates, because if we have them all, why did she wait 3 weeks to forward them on? If we don't have them all, where are the other queries ? - but she did not reply.
I also did not understand one of the questions so asked for clarification - but she did not reply.
I raised several queries including a possible completion date - but she did not reply to anything.
I had nothing more from her, no reassurances, no managing expectations and no replies.

I eventually had to email one of the partners - Richard Swinbank who assured me he would ensure everything was on track. However, I had to get back in touch again very quickly (and a third time) as she failed to do the things he said she would.
During the process Joanne did not reply to any of my questions.
She made no effort to give updates or manage expectations.

In the end - the buyer had to get in touch with me for anything, which I supplied to them and they passed on to their solicitors as it was the only way to get things moving.
I have no idea why anyone with any professional self respect thinks this is OK.
I have received no explanations at all from the firm.

I am a 10 year client of EMG Solicitors Limited under a UK Court of Protection deputyship managed by Emma Mary Gaudern and Jemma Claire Morland. By way of background, I am a permanent resident abroad where I have lived for 13 years, and I was assessed as having mental capacity under local law in 2024, yet the UK deputyship continues.

Months ago I informed the deputies via email and WhatsApp of my plans to remain permanently abroad and naturalize in my country of residence. This is a long-considered decision reflecting my 13-year commitment to where I live and to establish it as my permanent home. The deputies acknowledged this but have not adequately planned for the implications on my UK assets, raising serious questions about whether they are acting in my best interests.

My investment portfolio has experienced significant losses exceeding £300,000 that have never been properly explained despite repeated requests for transparency. The deputies control over £2,000,000 of my funds yet refuse to provide adequate cost breakdowns or explanations for investment decisions, fees, and charges. When I ask for transparency about how my money is being managed, I get vague responses or silence.

Ms. Gaudern and Mrs. Morland are appointed for property and financial affairs only, yet they have repeatedly made decisions affecting my healthcare and personal welfare, which exceeds their authority. When I experienced potential cancer symptoms, they were difficult to contact and released only £300 for urgent medical assessment despite the seriousness of the situation. After my partner died from cancer, they withheld funds for housing and nearly made me homeless during the most difficult period of my life.

They contacted my medical insurance provider without my consent, raising serious privacy concerns. They treat my healthcare as a budget item and gatekeep medical decisions based on cost, which is not within their remit as deputies for property and affairs. Following my partner's death, neither deputies extended any condolences or showed basic human empathy. This lack of compassion, combined with withholding funds for her treatment and my related needs, showed a concerning focus on control over care. They essentially treated her as if she didn't exist, which compounded the distress during an already unbearable time.

They filed a discharge application but did not serve all relevant documents and cancelled my participation in the hearing against my wishes. The process lacked transparency and prevented proper scrutiny. Now they are requesting the UK Court to exercise authority in a foreign jurisdiction where it has no power, attempting to override local laws on my capacity. This is a troubling overreach that disrespects local sovereignty and legal system, particularly given that I have been assessed as having capacity here and plan to naturalize in my country of residence. I have raised these concerns through appropriate channels. I am seeking independent legal advice in both the UK and abroad regarding discharge of the deputyship, limitation of the deputies' authority, recognition of my local capacity assessment, and implications of my planned naturalization.

I would strongly advise others in similar situations, particularly those living abroad with local capacity assessments and plans to naturalize in their country of residence, or those experiencing concerns about deputies exceeding their authority or facing inadequate financial transparency, to seek independent legal advice about their rights and options for challenging or limiting deputyships. The system needs greater oversight to prevent deputies from exceeding their authority and to ensure they act in clients' best interests rather than prioritizing control.

EMG claim to dispute everything and to have contacted me privately, but as of 28 January 2026, I have not received any private communication from EMG addressing these specific concerns. The lack of response speaks volumes about their willingness to engage with legitimate grievances.

It is impossible to overstate the excellence of the service we have received from EMG. A service which was equally professional and personal throughout. Our matter was complicated and challenging and precedent was not always clear, so it was wonderful to see the indefatigable partner chart and steer a course which led to an entirely successful outcome for us. They resolved to achieve what London solicitors and both senior and junior counsel had all said would be impossible We could not recommend this firm too highly, their method of working was always to keep us fully involved at every stage which was so reassuring at critical moments. Whilst our main dealings were at senior partner level, every member of staff with whom we came into contact was highly professional, responses were incredibly quick and complete. We cannot recommend them too highly and we look forward to a long and enduring relationship.

Give them a wide berth.Put a complaint into them about costs and poor service .Totally disregarded it as expected.If I had more time and energy would contact ombudsman.Dont follow instructions and then when u have to contact them to get what u asked for they charge you for call. Advice given in drips and drabs to string it out and increase costs .Never again total sham .All u need when already vulnerable and in distress

We had a deeply disappointing experience with Graham Shannon of EMG Solicitors. We felt the employment law advice we received was alarmist, unbalanced, and ultimately unhelpful, forcing us to seek (and pay for) further legal guidance elsewhere.

In addition, I felt disregarded - as a female - during the consultation, despite being a company director and the main point of contact.

We raised a formal complaint, but the response lacked accountability and offered no resolution.

Also, they have chased and chased me for payment of their invoice even though I 100% dispute it. They are completely intransigent, stubborn and ignorant.

I have directed my complaints to the Legal Ombudsman (LO) and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

Based on our experience, I would not recommend EMG for employment advice or professional client care and I wouldn't recommend them as decent people, either.

FYI, we went to Square One Law who were absolutely brilliant.

They haven't been in touch with me privately, at all - unless you count rejecting my complaint in its entirety.

We used Emg solicitors to sell our home and purchase another very recently. Callum and his team were amazing. They never failed to answer or return a call, they kept us updated throughout.
