We’ve recently needed to hire a van on two occasions. We were so impressed with County the first time that we used them again, Really helpful and friendly team, especially Isaac. Good price, great van and very convenient location. Highly recommend.

I would give 0 stars if was an option.
After renting a vehicle for 2 weeks over Christmas 2023 on returning we were accused of smoking in the vehicle. My husband does smoke and I am sure the smell would have been present on his clothing but AT NO POINT did he smoke in the vehicle. A sad attempt at pictures of "ash" (bear in mind the rain and wind we had experienced the vehicle had plenty of winter residue in it) were sent to us which proved nothing. County enforced a fee of 250 pound for "decontamination" which conveniently was the amount of our full refundable deposit!!!!
I am not letting this drop, I will not be TOLD we did something when we did not....we vehemently deny County's accusations. Avoid this company at all costs, especially if you are a smoker who may turn up to return a vehicle with the smell of smoke on your clothing. We regularly rent vehicles when we are in the UK, we only used County on this occasion due to location. Never again.

This is a update of my review based on County Car & Van rental response to my review.
They have now accused us of leaving the country with the rental vehicle, I have emailed requesting proof of this outrages claim but surprisingly no response. If you make a serious claim back it up with evidence. If another vehicle is driving around with same number plate as a vehicle County have on their portfolio then surely you would want the relevant authorities to be informed. Be careful when dealing with County Car & Van rental in Stockport. These comments are my own thoughts and true facts.

We have been hiring vans from County Rental Preston for the past couple of years. Always happy to help us our even with a couple of hours notice! Thanks to James and the team for their continued help

James is an outstanding person to deal with, he goes above and beyond every time and has never let us down in all the time we have dealt with him.
We wont go anywhere else as long as he is there.

Have used this company on several occasions and always found them very competitively priced and first class services. I have just hired a Toyota Aygo for 4 weeks and service was excellent. Vehicle dropped off and then collected. Hassle free. Would highly recommend.

Customer service is absolutely shocking. I wouldn't recommend anyone use County.

I hired a small car for just one day to go to funeral.
I know country has poor reviews for some of their other sites.
I found the Chester branch very good and a lot cheaper than their rivals.
I look forward to using their services again.

Hired a people carrier for a tour around Scotland. Arrived for collection at 10:00am (as agreed). Was waiting until 12:00 noon. No real explanation as to why this was. I was offered a 17 seater as an alternative which I refused as there was only 5 people in our party. The delay caused us to be stuck in horrendous traffic in Glasgow. Also they automatically place a £2000 excess so decided to pay £160 excess reducer. Received the vehicle which was basic to say the least! Bluetooth would not work. Sat nag was not available. To top it off when we left, a warning light was on stating that the passenger side front light was off and there was an issue with the brake pads. Front desk staff were fine and apologetic, however the lady manager in the office at the back sat doing nothing to let her staff take all of the flack! Nothing offered to improve the situation. Something that should have been a pleasurable experience was needlessly turned into a nightmare. Would never use them again and the manageress should be ashamed. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

Cheaper at Salford Van Hire and beware of rip-off charges for a seat valet completed by their own staff which cost more than a 2 day van rental.

The van I booked wasn't available on collection so I had to take a larger van which I didn't want. Then on return they charged me £90 to clean some dog hair up! I accept that it needed a vacuum but they're just rip off merchants charging that for a 20 min job!

If I could give no stars I would. Booked a tail lift van, on arrival told they had none left. Had to accept another van that wasn’t really what we needed. Condescending attitude of ‘have you ever driven anything this big’ when the licence that had just been handed over states ability to drive class 1 vehicles.
Then told they had no fuel so the van was on a quarter of a tank. Fuelled up twice before returning as the digital gage never moved and provided receipts. Again condescending attitude when receipts were provided telling us they were the same receipt. One had cash and the other said card payment!
They then told us that the gage said there was 7.5 litres less than yesterday but nowhere did it say how many litres were in the tank when we collected it. Complete and utter shambles. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Ignorance at best. Their website claims they rent to UK and EU driving license holders. However after booking they say they don’t accept EU driving licenses because her “manager said so”. Strange that I’ve been in the UK for 4 years and have had car insurance on the same license for 4 years now. Oh well ignorance is bliss.

YOU ARE NOT INSURED FOR DAMAGE AT THIS COMPANY. IT WILL COST YOU £2000 . BE CAREFUL AND GO ELSEWHERE. Asked if I was insured when they asked me for a deposit. Was told I was. It was never mentioned that the excess was £1750… Later found out the hard way. excess was £1750 and ended up paying over 2k for the Van.

We have been hiring vehicles for the road trip portions of our UK vacations since 1992. Our most recent hire was in May, 2022. In all this time the vehicles themselves have met our needs perfectly and have been in superb condition. Even more important, the quality of customer service has been nothing short of outstanding. It’s obvious the company‘s employees take the time to truly understand each customer’s requirements and know how to met them. In my wife’s and my experience, a vehicle hire can have a significant impact on the success of one’s business or vacation. County has never failed to deliver.

Hired a flat bed for my company,checked over van with there staff and did the same on return all okThen they decide to go underneath and take a picture of a broken plastic guard that was so obviously an old break with all the muck round,I would take your business elsewhere as my company now do

I have used County several times over the years and found the service to be generally good. My recent hire though was far from good. The car was OK and met the expectation. The problem started on the return. The check back in process identified a mark in the windscreen, County described it as a stone chip, I wouldn't. I watched the staff member doing the checks and he didn't check any other aspect of the vehicle condition, just the windscreen. Despite my protesting I was charged £65.00 plus vat for the remeidial work. I am not annoyed, I'm angry at myself for falling for this scam. Its now obvious that there is a culture of earning additional revenue from a hire at the expense of an unsuspecting client. The glass repair would have been £10 to £20 elsewhere but County allegedly have their own repair facility where they carry out the repairs. So its a big thumbs down for County Rental and the loss of a regular customer. Sad, shortsighted and rather unethical. I have reported my concerns the the BVRLA but I suspect it will amount to nothing. Use by all means but make sure you image every panel and piece of glass before leaving the site.

Really bad experience with County Car and Van Rental Stockport on more than one occasion. The representative that we dealt with today was rude, confrontational and condescending when we experienced a problem. The time prior they palmed us off with a van much larger than we wanted while promising there would be no problem getting under tip height barriers - it didn't and they admitted afterwards they knew it wouldn't! So don't expect a van the same size as the one you book. Both times we have booked now we have wasted our money as we couldnt get the job done we needed to. Will definitely be going elsewhere and would suggest other people do also.

The reviews about county van hire scamming customers are 100% accurate. Avoid at all costs. I rented a van with them this weekend. i had it for less then 24 hours. when i went to collect it they kept me waiting for over an hour so when it finally came out it was a rush to get it checked. This is clearly part of their scam. I did a thorough check but it was a 7.5 tonne truck so you can only check so much. It seemed fine but on our return the chap came out to sign if off and went straight to a crack in the passenger step. I was amazed as it was impossible to see and you had to get close but this guy must have spotted it from 10 meters away as he didn't miss a step. He rubbed away a bit of dirt and there it was. I took pictures and argued it was clearly damaged some time ago given how it looked and there was no way it had happened in the last few hours but all they said was i had signed it out and not spotted it so its my fault. This is clearly something they do on a regular basis. They all deserve a prison sentence. I have reported them to the police and I'm told if we can get a few people who have suffered in the same way to come forward and make a statement they can find a pattern of fraud and start an investigation into this company. Please comment on this review with your details and ill be in touch. Lets stop this disgusting behaviour now

Oldham depot absolute farce,do not hire a vehicle from here if you expect it to be clean, booking out time long,make sure you log all damages when taking vehicle out as they will try to scam you when bringing vehicle back in ..
