Appalling advice, mis-selling, and unauthorized wage deductions
I am writing this review to warn other consumers about my experience with Carrington Dean. I am currently escalating a formal 18-point complaint to the Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) regarding systemic mis-selling, professional negligence, and a complete failure of customer care.I was advised in writing by this firm that a Protected Trust Deed would "protect my assets" and was "just an arrangement." This was entirely false. As a result of this advice, over £20,000 of my home equity was taken upon a property sale. Furthermore, despite having a lifelong diagnosis of dyslexia, I was pushed into speed-signing a 3,000+ word legal contract via Adobe Sign in exactly 4 minutes and 26 seconds with zero reasonable adjustments or informed consent.To make matters worse, weeks after my debt was fully satisfied and settled in full via my house sale, Carrington Dean continued to arrest and deduct money from my employment wages under the wrong scheme name ("Debt Arrangement Scheme").This firm has caused severe financial detriment and immense distress to a single mother. If you are looking for honest, transparent debt advice, avoid this company at all costs. Go directly to a free service like Citizens Advice instead.

During perhaps the most financially challenging time of my life, Carrington Dean came to the rescue. DAS Advisor Dhishna Santoo was tremendously helpful, supportive and understanding and gave me the reassurance that I could survive my financial "crisis." I would highly recommend Carrington Dean and Dhishna if you are experiencing financial difficulties during this extremely challenging time. Their help and expertise is invaluable.

I had a suspicious call this morning from someone allegedly from Carrington Dean. I didn't give out any info but called the company myself.
I spoke to a lovely gentleman called Mikeal Dhalapah who was very good at assuring me it was indeed spam. He was then able to assist me with all questions I had. He was a cheerful, very helpful guy.
Debt is such a stressful struggle but with calming folks like Mikeal to talk to it's so much easier xxx

Formal Complaint – Poor Service and Unfair Charges
Unfortunately, throughout my time with Carrington Dean, the service has been far below expectations.
Emails regularly go unanswered
Calls are not returned
Information provided has often been inconsistent or unclear
On top of this, I’m now being penalised for trying to settle my debt early. I’ve been told I must pay both the settlement figure and the remaining instalments to close the account — which is unreasonable and unacceptable.
It is frustrating that communication only seems to happen when I request to close the account, rather than when support is actually needed.
I expect:
A clear explanation of the settlement terms
A fair resolution that does not penalise early repayment
A prompt response to this complaint
If this is not resolved, I will have no option but to escalate the matter further.

massive fees for zero protection & legally incompetent advice
I have been paying Carrington Dean’s massive fees for nearly 8 years, moving from a DAS to a Protected Trust Deed.
Last week, I was hounded by an aggressive debt collector (BW Legal) for a unknown parking fine from 2022. I contacted Carrington Dean for the protection I have spent nearly a decade paying for, only to be given legally incompetent advice in broken english by their front-line staff. Despite my severe anxiety, your call handler told me she "couldn't do much" because the debt wasn't listed, and told me to break insolvency rules by calling the aggressive collector back myself to gather information.
Under the Bankruptcy (Scotland) Act 2016, an omitted debt from 2022 IS bound by my 2022 Protected Trust Deed, and it is the Trustee's legal duty to handle it not mine.
I have submitted a Stage 1 Formal Complaint via email, explicitly stating I require EMAIL-ONLY correspondence due to my profound hearing loss. Do not call my mobile. I want a manager to review the dangerous advice given by your staff, contact BW Legal directly to tell them to back off, and process my final discharge without further delay. Disgraceful service at the finish line.
UPDATE 02/06/2026: As explicitly stated in my formal Stage 1 Complaint email, I am deaf and wear two hearing aids. Telephone calls are entirely unsuitable. Your response states someone will be "in touch directly" let it be known publicly that I expect this contact to be via written EMAIL ONLY. Do not call my mobile number.
Furthermore, since your front-line handler failed to do her job, I have already used a live chat to force the debt collector (BW Legal) to face the Bankruptcy (Scotland) Act 2016. Because I cited the correct legislation myself, BW Legal immediately folded, closed the file, and returned it to their client.
I have done your staff's leg work for them. I now require my allocated manager to reply to my Stage 1 Complaint email immediately to confirm this 2022 debt is officially integrated into my file, and to provide a definitive date for my final discharge paperwork. Keep it on email.
