Ancestry Family Tree Records
I have found the set up of family trees, the searching for, and attaching of records to be very good.
I have been able to do family trees for myself and several other people.
As well, I've helped several people with their family trees.
I have found the most amazing information, have been able to find people for others and so reunite them, and have found family members - some of them famous - for myself and others that came as complete and wonderful surprises.
To let you know that when one stops paying for a membership - records do remain attached but are blurred out.
However - in order to see all the records attached to trees - offered is a lower priced monthly membership, Preserve My Tree.

It is fairly seamless
It is fairly seamless. Hints are still subject to the "correctness" of other researchers' work. I have been doing this for many years and progress has been, and will continue, to be slow. That being said, it is always worthwhile to check new hints. When one is grasping at straws you can't be too concerned about the color of the straw.

Bring the past to life again
I have always been so proud to be related to so many UEL families on my maternal side. My 5th Great Grandfather Arent Andries Bradt UEL fought with the famous Col John Butler of Butler's Rangers. To my surprise Arent's younger sister Catalyntje Bradt married John Butler!!!!!!! So my 5th Great Aunt was John Butler's wife I was "Over the Moon" happy.

Ancestry
Out of all of the genealogy sites, I find Ancestry to be the most user-friendly and has the best interface for a website. Though they don't always have the records I'm looking for, I love to use Ancestry as a home base for my family tree. Updates to DNA results have made it significantly easier to sort through matches to help solve mysteries. Using DNA, I was able to solve a family mystery involving a secret adoption. Though it uncovered some sad stories, it confirmed that our surname was, in fact, originally a different name. It's a really fun journey and anyone can do it. I've been using it for about 15 years now.

Confirmation of African American and North American native ancestry.
I was able to confirm family rumours of African American Heritage as well as North American native ancestry. With the help of dna matches, I am starting to see my African American ancestor's origins.

Build a Tree Branch by Branch.
I find the format of building profiles superior to any other service, and new records are being added all the time. Building my tree and making new and surprising discoveries has been very rewarding, and this would have never been possible for me without Ancestry.ca

I do it all again including the DNA part
I submitted DNA samples to Ancestry.ca to hopefully get a connection to Irish family. My ancestors left Ireland in about 1826 and arrived in Quebec. Without ancestry I would not have known this. I was aware of my 1st great grandparents but not my 2nd and 3rd ggps. Quebec baptism records were invaluable to me in my search for family ancestors. The family relatives that I connected with astounds me to this day. I have frequent contact with many of them from Quebec to Ontario to the dakotas and Minnesota to name a few places. One family researcher turned out to be a very well trained genaeologist from Quebec City - again, an invaluable connection.
While I haven’t made a family connection back to Ireland with my DNA, my sample did result in a second cousin finding her birth mother (the mother had passed but the mothers siblings were alive and all involved are great full for the “reunion”). I have a daughter-in-law whose Ontario Mother found an unknown step-sister from England, also via DNA. That case has been well documented by the BBC. The only problem I’ve ever had with ancestry.ca is that too many researchers aren’t careful enough with their “findings” and post incorrect information on their tree. This is then copied by someone else as FACT. On the other had my family had photos dated back to the mid 1800s and I am astounded by how many others have used them. An example is a 1919 family photo with my grandmother, her parents and siblings. I have used the MyHeritage site but prefer Ancestry.ca. I’ve also helped many friends with their trees and uncovered info they were simply unaware of. An example is finding homestead records of a friends family they didn’t know existed. I would sign up to ancestry again but only wish I had done it when my parents were alive.
PS. I’ve been kept awake half the night many times by Ancestry when I’ve found records that clearly were about my ancestors. 8
Its been alot of fun

My experience has been mostly good with some exceptions. I am forever wanting to dig further into the past, and Ancestry helps me do that. However, for some reason, I am very often adding a duplicate person when I find new information. It frustrates me so much. How does this happen, and how can I stop it?

My Matheson Tree is now becomming my Piggott tree and I keep adding to my family line. My hubby, CLifford Edwin Matheson had his DNA done but it wouldn't allow him to put my e-mail in to receive his info, as I am doing the Matheson Tree. He knows nothing about computers. I go into his e-mails and forward to my e-mail and most of the time I cannot open them.. so his DNA is usless to him. Why can't he use my e-mail.. I know you are trying to force him to open an account with you but he has no knowledge how to work the computer and I wish to keep all the info together for family info. please help
Please tell Ancestry I tried to follow their instructions but when I went in Clifford Edwin Matheson's account and went to his DNA..when it opened up all that was there was Origins, Matches, ThruLines, Traits, Compare Surveys, Register a Kit and Buy another Kit.. There was NO DNA TEST SHARING, so therefore I cannot invite my email as Manager.. please help.

Some good/some bad
As a user in Canada, I find that the vast majority of hints and search results are specific to the USA and rarely apply to my research. Additionally, I feel the current subscription cost is excessive, but I am hesitant to cancel because I do not want to lose the work I have already done.

Ancestry is not really improving their…
Ancestry is not really improving their customer's requests. They still are not capable to get the old geographic regions that are on the documents entered into the data bank right. The worse thing in genealogy is not to find the right locations within the time frame that are labeled on documents all over the world. Every other company has them somehow adjusted to their websites. Ancestry has towns that used to be in the part of Germany that used to be Prussia in areas that often end up in the US or any other part of the world. There is no excuse for such mistakes if someone searches a name in Germany or Prussia today often Poland or Russia and ends up in a totally different country on earth. That is a part that needs to be corrected in a hurry. I am trying to get Ancestry to correct this for years and nobody is listening in that company. As of DNA? I am not sure if I am happy about that part as well. Health and any other functions are so often misleading and the surveys are totally out of human reality. The price is too high too for people to work with their DNA. Not everybody has the money to keep up a subscription all the time. Especially if they only did their DNA for fun and not for research a family tree. Ancestry has a lot of things they need to correct and perhaps be more honest in their advertisement. I am a genealogist and keep my subscription mostly up to date. But if I calculate the expense I have had over the last 10 years in keeping up subscriptions I have be a millionaire and not a fixed income pensioner. There should be discounts for genealogists and seniors that have faithfully paid into the deep and endless pot of genealogy subscriptions and other sources that are rather expensive. I only use ancestry because they have purchased most of the documents from Germany which includes the part that is Poland today. Also, I need a company that hosts my tree so that I don't need to have my one website, which probably would be less expensive but after I am gone it would be gone too. I want people to have excess to my data but with the right location. I am still debating if I leave my tree on Ancestry unless the locations are going to be corrected.

Some interesting discoveries found on Ancestry.com
Two years ago I lost a much loved step-daughter to cancer but amazingly I found a new friend, a cousin, and a half brother for my daughter all through my research and membership in ancestry.com.
A month or so before she passed away I suggested a dna test for my daughter to distract her from her pain and suffering. Sadly she passed just before the results came in. However, at about the same time a very nice gentleman was approaching his 60th birthday and his wife purchased a DNA test from Ancestry.com. He was adopted and had been wondering about his parents who had given him up for adoption. He was able to not only find who they were but also discovered a half sister he very much wanted to meet. Unfortunately he was unable to connect with her due to her passing. He did connect with his birth mother but she was unwilling to have contact. During his search he did contact myself and we became friends. I did some research for him and found some ancestors and strangely enough I found he and I were cousins. That meant I was also a cousin to my own daughter I had raised! Our family and his have had a great time getting to know each other. Ancestry played a big part in this odd story.

Unexpected Ancestry victory…
I had an unexpected Ancestry victory when I was able to trace the family back to 1066: the Norman Invasion! Most genealogists know that finding people who get baptized, married, and buried through a church is a goldmine of documentation. it's even better when those people have wealth and status, because they can be found in historical records. Finding a line with wealth and status made it easy for me to establish the male line of the Hussey family back to Hugh de Hussey who came over with William. When others are excited about finding relative back to the 1700's, I can boast that I have uncovered mine 700 years before theirs! Ancestry made this possible. It would have taken years of digging through paper and fiche to have achieved this.

My journey with using Ancestry has been outstanding. I have learn things about my ancestors that are truly remarkable, like I have found a branch that lead me to the Mayflower. Wow! I have found first cousins that I didn't know that I had. without using Ancestry i probably would not have found out any of this.

Ancestry has an amazing collection of records. I was in tears over reading a first-hand experience by an ancestor during the Revolutionary War. Two days ago I found a photo of my 2nd Great Grandfather. Ancestry's Thrulines helped me break a genetic brick wall. I know Thrulines depend on family trees which aren't always accurate but if they are correct, and sometimes they are, your DNA matches can help you find true family origins. It's certainly worth investigating.
