Why change providers?
I have not joined amber and not planning too, simply because on their communication method (you have to be available at an agreed time but don't specify which time zone) which during summer can be anything and their quotation process which has limited inputs and therefore distorted outputs.
I expected amber to jump at the potential my system would offer them but despite my additional input the quotation still calculated a saving of about $1 /month.
This result made me suspicious.
My current provider pays 3c/kWh, generating over $300 per quarter. I'm well in the black with my current provider. So why change when amber appear not to be able to provide a reason to change!
Frustrating to deal with at initial…
Frustrating to deal with at initial stage. Gave no consideration to my property layout. Amber was the only company the said they would ‘not be interested’ in my job because it was not a standard installation. This is despite the cabling from the existing solar on my shed is in place. Rude and dismissive.

Easy and quick online connection to Amber with minimal hassle. Comprehensive app with learning curve to fully appreciate all features. Still waiting to see how much money I save over a period of time using Amber's AI management of my upgraded batteries.

I’ve been with Amber for two years and…
I’ve been with Amber for two years and experienced no issues and was very happy. I got replacement Powerwall batteries in Dec 25 and went two months with Amber not controlling them. Basically got caught up in the customer service backlog shambles. It’s now working and my perception is the worst of their issues are behind them. In QLD the market has shifted in the last 6-8 months and it’s harder to get a payback selling as evening prices are lower. NSW appears to be good still for big battery owners. I suspect longer term the best combo on Amber is a mid size battery to cover your own night use and be a net power buyer in the daytime to get low prices. Particularly if you have an EV
responsive customer service
responsive customer service, great peiece of software to manage your solar and battery and has reduced my electricity bill to about 10% of what it was with a new battery solution.

There is an old saying "Trust but…
There is an old saying "Trust but Verify" so I still compare the deal that I am getting from Amber Electric at least every twelve months. So far no other company has been even close to beating the deal that I am getting from them. I have recommended them to friends whenever the subject of power prices are raised.

Disappointing for smaller systems
I had recently bought a new battery and thought that Amber would be a good fit. However, it turned out to be far more expensive than anticipated. I have a large battery but relatively small solar system. I was having to frequently purchase energy from the grid to fill my battery, but then couldn’t recoup the cost to cover the supply charge, membership fee, and some grid usage. For those with a very large, and compatible solar system and battery, Amber could probably work out quite well (and the app is very good). Also, Amber’s customer service seems quite difficult to get a hold of with long wait times when trying to contact.
I have since changed to a company offering free electricity during the day so I can schedule my battery to charge at this time, which then covers my daily use, and is significantly cheaper than Amber for me.

VERY KNOWLEDGABLE, GOOD PRICING AND HOPEFULLY, INSTALLATION WILL GO WELL.

The concept of Amber is great
The concept of Amber is great, however it's let down by poor customer service, with the inability to speak to anyone in person and long delays in email responses.
I think this is a good company with some teething problems
I think this is a good company and real money can be made buying and selling electricity - however they can be overwhelmed and customer service is profoundly slow and in that time you can lose money, sometimes alot. The set up for us was also slow as we were linked to another DPP (?how), and help sorting this was also so slow. But once it is up and running and assuming you do not have an issue then it is good. When you get help the staff are actually brilliant.
What's not to love about Amber?!
This company is providing those who care about the climate crisis with a means to directly contribute towards a solution. Put simply, they are incentivising rooftop solar installation and batteries. After signing up with Amber, I am in credit in my electricity bill for most of the year.
Their model of wholesale trading of electricity at variable market prices provides a win-win for supplier and consumer. For a number of reasons, it should help bring electricity prices down across the board and close down the coal fired power stations sooner.
I have found the customer service at Amber to be exemplary. Their staff are savvy and efficient.
What's not to love about Amber?!

Their support is non existant
Their support is non existant. Took 4 months to get a response, and they made the situation worse!!
Their curtailment is not working properly, which is costing money. And I'm now very stressed that they won't respond quickly now that I have this situation.
Not worth the stress.
Edit after Amber's response: Two weeks after raising a complaint, and 4 days after making an enquiry with EWOV, I did get an email confirming Amber is looking into a technical issue with curtailment.

This company gives ZERO support to its customers
I have had a smart meter on my solar for 6yrs and routinely exported. Recently upgraded to a home battery and I am able to export now at different times. Joined amber. Amber say I don't have a smart meter despite me confirming with Ausgrid that I in fact do and I am uploading regularly but I am unable to use the touted app tools to force upload. I contacted Amber in Dec 2026 - No response other than automated generic FAQ emails. Unable to do anything as Energy ombudsman is looking into a group action. Unable to leave Amber as I have recieved no bills and don't know what charges are going to be levied or whether all the uploaded electricity is going to be credited. This company has failed all legislated support activities to its customers. Do NOT join Amber it has been a total cluster. All phone calls and emails have had no response in over 3 mths - I wonder whether if this company is insolvent?

Awful company can't speak to anybody…
Awful company can't speak to anybody EVER, and they have lied about rebates. Apparently, they are growing the capacity of their phone team??? But after 12 minutes you get to leave a voice message which nobody replys to EVER. It's been like that for 3 months. You can't speak to anyone, the bills are not what they say they are, and frankly, it feels like a complete con.
Bunch of BS artists. I had a response to an email that took 8 weeks, which just apologised for the late response.

Another happy amber camper
After installing a 32Kw battery and switching to Amber two months ago, it's proved to be a whole new world.
Instead of dealing with ever declining FITs and high grid prices, the variances in the wholesale prices make for good buying and selling decisions. Most days when prices follow a regular pattern, solar power accumulates in the battery during the solar period and the surplus gets sold to the grid in the evening at a much better price. During price volatility, buying gets turned up to the max when prices are low or negative and selling likewise when prices are high.
Brilliant so far and I'm looking forward to seeing how things work as the shorter days arrive.
Terrible at responding to emails and phone messages
I hate the fact that I never received a response to my emails and phone messages for two years. This is terrible service. I got a response for my last call because I pretended that there is an urgent dangerous issue but then I got my issue attended to. I still never heard why they did not respond for two years. I just got an apology without an explanation.
Great experience with Amber Electric
My dealings were with Joe who was great in setting up the process to have solar battery installed at my premises.
