I had 4 months with Amber, 2 months away and now I'm back

I had 4 months with Amber, got a little frustrated at their support (it was great when it was available, but it could be hard to connect). Then I had 2 months with another retailer who were OK, but have returned to Amber and glad to have done so.
They are much more responsive now after the flood of new customers, and support is always capable, effective and intelligent. And even better, it's now much more responsive.
I quite like the app too, but am using Energy Manager on a Home Assistant to control my system rather than Smartshift. Gives me more control and comfort.
Bottom line is Amber is now great as the retailer, and EM as my system manager.

A big Green light for the Amber team

The Amber team have been fantastic. We have been customers for about 8 months. The Amber customer service was a tad slow in the first couple of months but they have obviously resourced up with some exceptional customer service talent. Our only issue has been their unreliable contractor for our meter replacement. The Amber team have been very helpful addressing our concerns but we are still waiting for Pulse ES to get it right and done. I'd give the Amber team 5 Stars - our experience due to the contractor impacts the overall rating. Thank you.

Good Service

After attempting direct phone contact but failing - no big deal - my email message was responded to by a phone call to me and the Amber representative was very helpful and knowledgeable - a big tick ✔️

Timely Advice That Helps You Get the Most From Solar and EVs

Amber has consistently responded to my enquiries in a timely and helpful way. This has been especially valuable as I continue to learn how to optimise my solar panels and battery to get the best possible performance.

More recently, their advice regarding my new EV was clear and practical, and it helped me make informed decisions about home charging options well in advance. Overall, the support has been reliable, knowledgeable, and easy to deal with.

We upgraded our Solar System and installed a Battery

We upgraded our solar system and incorporated a battery, we were looking for the best possible provider and Amber was by far the best option.
We utilise their Virtual Power Plant and this makes the most effective use of our system, Amber's customer service is 10 out of 10, if your looking for an energy provider check out Amber you won't be disappointed.

Misleading quotations to get you to sign up

I signed up with Amber after using their quote estimator on their website. Based on my system and quite modest usage info it quoted me a monthly cost of approx -$65 (ie refund of $65). I received my first monthly bill of +$36 and was very disappointed. A difference of $100 per month is very misleading. Their support centre is not taking calls unless its an absolute emergency etc so there is literally NO support (I tried their chatbot which suggests getting on contact with their support team). I've cancelled my plan with them and gone back to my previous provided who gave me a better FiT which is a little bit of a silver lining.

Settings Messed up with every Export to the grid

Our issue, apparently caused by a Fox software update was quckly resolved. This is the first time we've needed help from Amber and they were great.

Although it is early days for us;
so far we have had nothing but positive experiences with the Amber team.
The wholesale model is working very well with our large solar array & Sigenergy system which includes a 25 kWh bidirectional DC charger.
I'm now looking at how to make full use of the the v2x potential.

Great Switch

Transition from my previous provider to them was smooth. I didn't have to do anything and as they promised, they did everything from notification to the actual transfer. I had solar panels and a battery beforehand and excited to use the Smartshift feature because I can control when to buy and when to sell. It's just 2 weeks after joining, so will have to see after my first bill.

Best decision ever made 🫶🏻

💯 switching to Amber is the best decision I ever made, I have saved so much on my electricity, with the app you can literally watch the amount and cost of your power as your using it, and notifications when the power has a higher cost and the time of it allows me to turn off what is unnecessary to use during that time often we have times of electronics we call it our blackouts lol.
Easy payments discounts and fast service and easy great communication.
You would be kicking yourself for not joining earlier I promise.

Over promise, under deliver

This service has been substandard. We have a 42kw battery and despite being low energy consumers continue to receive monthly bills similar to our pre-battery bills.
The automatic discharge system has failed to eventuate 8 months after sale. We were sold on the promise of taking advantage of the market volatility which has not come to fruition. Amber's post sale follow up has been abysmal. I would not recommend this company to anyone. We are actively seeking alternative options - feel free to share any recommendations.

Just enrolled with Amber and have received great service. Prompt answers to queries and stuck with it through disconnection issues with my Fronius inverter. Already can see the difference in consumption and cost. Still learning bow to get the best out of the system but the flexibility. Is amazing allowing me to determine the best times to charge my EV and run the heavy domestic appliances. Very pleased so far!

I recently connected up with Amber…

I recently connected up with Amber Electricity
and overall the experience has been really positive.

Getting set up was quite straightforward. The key is simply to read the instructions in the email they send through—if you follow them step by step, the connection process is smooth with no real issues.

For context, I’m running a 48kWh battery system (FoxESS CQ6) paired with a H3-10.0 smart inverter, along with 11.9kW of solar on the roof using a Sungrow SG10.0RT inverter. The inverters are coupled, and everything has integrated without any complications.

What I really like is the level of control you still have as the battery owner. You’re not locked out of anything—you can manage how your battery is used while also benefiting from their SmartShift technology working in the background. SmartShift optimises performance, including when to export energy back to the grid, which helps maximise returns without needing to constantly monitor it.

Financially, it’s already been a noticeable improvement. In just 16 days I’ve built up $16.44 in credit. Previously, over a similar period, I would have been around -$18. So that’s effectively a $30+ swing in the right direction, which is a pretty remarkable turnaround.

It’s also worth noting there has been absolutely no disruption to my energy supply since connecting. Everything has run seamlessly—no issues, no outages, no complaints.

From what I’ve seen, some of the more negative reviews seem to come down to setup or troubleshooting complexity in certain situations. Response times can also be slower at times due to the high volume of battery uptake and support demand. In my view, it’s best to carefully work through the setup using the provided instructions first, and only reach out to support if you’ve exhausted those steps, then allow time for them to respond.

Overall, a very positive experience so far.

Poor Service and Onboarding Errors Overcome

My initial experience was poor due to the inability of Amber to cope with the increase in demand. My issue of incorrect setup during onboarding was basically ignored - I had power and I could control my battery.

I persevered with Amber and but it was getting to the point of me looking for an alternative as the automation could not be trusted. I tried again, complaining about Smartshift exporting during negative FIT which I believed was due to onboarding errors. Also, the Live screen not reflecting data as per my Inverter and battery apps.

I received a reply this time. It was after I painstakingly put together a PDF with multiple end of day screengrabs of Amber Live data as compared side by side to the component apps. With that information Amber recognised the issue and corrected the data ingestion. Now the Live data is correct and Smartshift is not doing dumb things.

So why do I give a 5 star rating now after the initial poor service? Credit where credit is due. Siti from the Amber customer support quickly and reasonably handled this episode well and earned my respect and appreciation for the handling of the issue.

Great service

Onboarding was incredibly easy and fast. Customer service has also been excellent. Will need to wait 12 months before I can say it's the best electricity option after buying my big battery.
