Revolting lying company
Revolting lying company you will never get a response from. When they do respond to the ombudsman they will also lie. So disappointing to see such a great idea be so magnificently mismanaged.
Amber and ElektroBank 14
I am very happy with Amber and the way they do their energy charging. We purchased an Empower ElektroBank 14 battery system to use Ambers energy model. It is not for the set and forget group. You need to monitor during poor weather to ensure there is enough battery to get you through the demand period. This will require you to buy energy when it is cheapest and maybe reduce your usage. Overall I love the concept as I like to be involved and make decisions when required.

My rating of Amber is four stars on the basis of ease of set up and the cordial nature of discussions with their personnel. Because of the newness of my joining, I am still assessing the value of my move from retail to wholesale.
I have recently returned to Amber. My previous association with them was a bit less than satisfactory. Because of limitations of my equipment I was unable to setup Smart Switch. As a consequence I had no control over my power exportation habits. The system worked well in the winter months with lower than retail purchase, but soured a bit when my feed in became excessive in the warmer months and negative FiT. Smart Switch rectifies that issue and has been proved in my family circle, as 2 other members are in on Amber. They are reporting large decreases in what were high domestic bills.
I have upgraded my system with a new Inverter and increased battery capacity, While the system is yet to be approved for connection to Smart Switch, apparently Growatt are expanding their certification process and are anticipating inducting many more Inverter/battery combinations into the stable.
In the meantime my usage and Ambers policies give me comfort that this is a good decision.

The team was very responsive, knowledgeable, and patient in addressing our concerns. They took the time to clearly explain everything.

Beware of the demand charges, they smash you
Signed up and went through many iterations of try to get the vpp working. Then in the second month of my bill I get and increase of over $100 to my bill. In that month I've exported mote 466k/w and received &$29 in credits. I needed approx 8.4 kW during a demand window on only one day of the month and they charged me the 30 Min peak and times it by 31 days.. More than $101. Read the fine print and beware if you get bad weather for a few consecutive days.. It's a very poor experience, and I'll be leaving. By the time you add daily supply charge and $25 membership, this does not add up. I'm better of with a flat fit at 5c and 88c daily supply and to pay 29c for power when I need. Goodbye Amber, you can't control my vpp and then extort me..

Very quick response. Kept me informed at every step.

Early days but amazing so far
Early days but I’ve gone from paying $130 a week to about $1.30. Incredible, and that’s through the 30 day ‘learning phase’. And I’m just a bit obsessed with monitoring the app,

Amber rocks.
Amber rocks.
They're not for everyone. But they are for all consumers who have a passion for lowest cost electricity consumption. No question about it. In my case, we extensively and routinely track and visualize our consumption and cost time series data @ 5 minute intervals. I suspect I'm in a minority in this regard. But at the other end of the spectrum, consumers who use electricity providers that aggregate data and hide the underlying details from consumers, are getting ripped off -- big time, no question about it.
No-brainer for those with home battery system
You either love Amber because you have solar and a home battery with a smart inverter system or you hate it because you don't. Makes no sense unless you do. I do and have found them pretty responsive with various queries. It will be a complete no brainer for everyone who can afford solar set-up plus an EV with bidirectional charging, once that is up and running
Amber strives for transparency
Amber is fantastic with real-time wholesale pricing which can be easily monitored through their app. Optimal benefits come from knowing the best time to use energy dense appliances such as the EV charger. Amber also restricts my excess solar energy being fed into the grid when the prices are negative, saving me money. During these (curtailment) periods I only generate the solar power I need for the house and to restore my battery to 100% charge. The emails and videos from Amber are very helpful in understanding the whole process. Wholesale electricity is a complex system, there’s a lot to learn, but they explain it really well. The best part is that Amber prioritises renewable energy and even pass the Carbon Credits onto the customers.

Easy step by step connection, the app was brilliant, no time wasting ringing overseas call centres for connecting.
I Was ripped off for over 20years for being loyal and giving them my power and gas but now since I left the big ripoff giant they want me back, Never will go back.

I agree with the current review summary regarding slow support response. However, the potential to get good value though automation makes me think it worth sticking with Amber and hope in time, support calls are minimum and have improved response time.
Incredibly frusterarting
Incredibly frusterarting, I signed up as a new customer. I cannot talk to anyone directly, only talking to machines. Eamails explainign electricity will be out of action. Cannot contact for an explantation. Really feels like I have been scammed. Such a waste of time and so stressful!

Raised an issue and was treated like a normal person and not a numbered cash cow, how refreshing!
We switched to Amber in Oct 2025. Although we were hesitant at first it has been a dream. For one thing, we actually get some earnings credits applied to our power bill finally! The pitiful few cents we would be credited each month by our previous supplier was a joke, so that has been a pleasant surprise. Secondly, I noticed that my March bill was not debited on the date specified, I gave it a week to represent but still nothing. I contacted Amber and outlined the problem. As I expected there was a suggestion that it could have bounced but I reassured via email that was not the case. Upon further investigation it arose there was an issue Amber was not aware of and after another 10 days the debut was finally successful. Amber kept in contact with me regularly to let me know the issue was progressing and thanking me for my patience. At no point did I feel ‘brushed off’ and all communications felt directed to me personally not at me by some AI or auto generated algorithm.
I’ve recommended Amber to plenty of people and will continue to. I hope whatever they’re doing they keep the same focus and attitude to their customers, I actually felt valued as a customer which was a nice change to being viewed as a cash cow like so many other companies in these modern times.
