Went with YBS as wanted an offset mortgage. Good customer service, easy to get hold of team via email or phone. Mortgage process involved gifted deposit but was still straightforward.

Guess what?
I downloaded the app, but never received the voucher!
A Building Society sending out entirely misleading marketing. Pretty low experience combined with customer service who really could not have given a hoot.

If you were eligible for the voucher, then an evoucher should have been sent to you via email by 6th August 2026. If you haven't received the voucher please call us on 0345 1200 100 so we can check we hold an up to date email address for you. If you are able to call us we can resolve the issue and get this sent across.

mortgage application
We applied for a mortgage. The process took over 8 weeks for a straight forward application. The underwriter could only be contacted by a generic email which then took a week or longer to get any response. Questions and documents were missed and once noticed at the end of the underwriting process, it took a further 3 weeks to be given the formal offer.

The account was opened competently…
The account was opened competently enough on line which was just as well as the customer services line, which was needed to check why the app didn't work, was just about useless. The usual partly trained agents working from a script is the most appropriate feedback - not particularly worse than others but no better imo. The constant emails, which are little more than electronic jibber-jabber, are again just like all others (and indeed the nagging to let them know how they did) and need reducing. I don't need an email every other day about very little, I am only not blocking them because they have my money and might someday have a real need to contact me; "marketing" with regards to financial services is irritating at best and intrusive at any level.

I was struggling to open an ISA online…
I was struggling to open an ISA online so I called into the Preston branch to ask for help. I am sorting out my Husbands finance after he died, it can be overwhelming there is so much to do. The staff in branch & on the phone have been so helpful. I couldn’t have managed without them.
