Rip Off NO SEEDS!!!!!

I bought 4 packets ! and have not heard from your customer service and you have not explained why 4 packets of 5 to 10 seeds are in them instead of 100 ???? So they must all be the same !!!!So i bought 4 packets of unwins erigeron seeds 100 seeds per packet.
4 packets arrived and there were plastic pods inside holding only 10 seeds and I couldn't even shake them out! Totally ripped off !!!!

Felt ripped off.

Felt ripped off.
I recently bought Unwins Wildflower seed blend in a shop without reading the small print. It's 98.5% granulated chemical fertiliser, 1.5% unknown seed.
Yes, they don't even tell you what varieties are in it (aside from 3).
Wildflowers thrive in poor soil, grass competes with them so fertiliser is the opposite of what the soil wants as it encourages grass growth.

Really looking forward to seeing what this luxurious, rich carpet of a handful of unknown flowers looks like being drowned out by the newly fed grass and weeds.

Our Unwins Wildflowers Seed Blend is designed to be easy to sow and reliable to establish. The flower seeds are mixed with growing granules, which help distribute the very fine seed evenly across the stated area and support successful establishment. The blend is measured and sold by coverage, which is why it will always cover the square metre stated on the pack.

The mix contains up to 20 annual and perennial varieties, including poppies, cornflowers and oxeye daisies, and features a combination of native and long‑established wildflowers from the British Isles, selected to support pollinators and local wildlife. While only key varieties are listed, the full blend has been carefully chosen for performance and biodiversity benefits.

As with all wildflowers, best results are achieved when sown onto prepared ground with low competition from grass, as noted in our sowing guidance. Poor preparation can make establishment more difficult, regardless of the mix used.

Will never buy Unwins seeds again

Will never buy Unwins seeds again. Bought a packet of Cosmos Antiquity seeds and there were ten seeds in the pack. Pathetic!

I’m really sorry to hear that you haven’t received either of the replacement seed packs. That’s not the experience we want for our customers, especially after our team has already arranged for two separate despatches.

We can see that the replacements were sent via Royal Mail and, under normal circumstances, would be expected to arrive without issue. However, given they still haven’t reached you, we completely understand your frustration.

Bought some Pepper (sweet) seeds…

Bought some Pepper (sweet) seeds F1.....£3.49 and there were only 20 seeds in packet. Tried growing as per normal (76 year old experienced gardener) and out of the 20 seeds only 3 germinated. (sow by 2027) Batch B. I might as well have bought 3 bell peppers from Tesco at 65Pence each and got myself 300 plus seeds. DISGRACEFUL TOTAL RIP OFF....talk about STUNG!

The pepper seeds you purchased are F1 hybrids, which are a premium type of seed produced through many years of selective breeding and trialling. These are sold in smaller quantities than standard varieties, as the focus is on producing strong, uniform plants with improved vigour and performance rather than large packet counts.

We’re particularly sorry to hear that germination was poor. All of our seed batches are tested for viability before packing, but we do recognise how frustrating it is when results don’t meet expectations, especially for experienced gardeners. Germination can be affected by a number of factors, including temperature, compost type, moisture levels and aftercare, and pepper seeds in particular require consistently warm conditions (ideally 18–25°C).

We’d really like the opportunity to look into this properly and help put things right. If you’re happy to contact our Customer Service team directly with the packet details and some information on how the seeds were sown, they’ll be able to investigate further and discuss the options available to you.

Too expensive for the amount of seeds

I made a mistake and purchased tomatoes seeds 5 in a packet
Strawberry. 4 in a packet
Chillies. 6 in a packet
Soo tiny I could barely find them😠

Miserly Unwins - just 6 tomato seeds in a packet 😡

Miserly Unwins.
Bought 2 varieties of Unwin tomato seeds. What an absolute disgrace, just SIX tomato seeds in a packet for over £3 each.

Every tomato has about 50 seeds so this is pure extortion.
I don’t expect every seed to make it to a full plant so this is disappointing to have so few chances.

Please note that the approximate number of seeds for each variety is listed on the back of the packet. If the packet you received differs from this, we encourage you to contact us at customerservice@westland.com
so we can investigate.

It’s also possible that the varieties you purchased are from our F1 Range. These are specially bred seeds, developed over many years to produce plants with higher cropping potential and improved germination rates. While there may be fewer seeds in the packet compared to open-pollinated varieties, each seed is selected to give the best chance of producing a healthy, productive plant.

We appreciate your understanding and hope you enjoy growing your tomatoes.

Poor quality seeds

Ordered 2 packets of strawberry seeds via Just Seeds.
Extremely poor quality, I only had 2 or 3 viable seeds, all the rest were crushed into powder.
Waste of money and time yesterday getting everything ready to start sowing.
First and last time I will be using Unwins seeds.

Does not even deserve a 1 in my opinion. We’ve grown our own tomatoes since lockdowns but this is the first time buying Unwins tomato seeds. What an absolute con!! Imagine I paid £3.49 for a packet of tomato seeds, I bought two packets so it cost me £6.98. I would’ve bought more but for the price. Imagine my face today when I opened them to plant them and found that each packet had eight tiny weenie little tomato seeds in the whole packet!!!! What an absolute con! So just warning you don’t buy Unwins tomato seeds. I think in future I’m just gonna take the seeds out of my tomatoes and plant them myself. Rip-off Britain

Very clever but deceptive

Very clever but deceptive. Bought a packet of pepper seeds only to find only 6 seeds inside. The estimate of contents are listed on the reverse of the packet on the rear portion used to open the packet. So definitely not easy to see and normally lost on opening.
If it had said contents 6 seeds on the front of the packet I wouldn’t have paid £3 ish for them . Cost of packet must have been more than seed , bonkers. No real response from the customer service, so will avoid Unwins in future.

Short changed

Short changed? I bought several packets of seeds including courgette (Jaguar). There were supposed to be 6 seeds but there were inly 4. At £3.00 for the packet I feel cheated.
When I tried to email customer services the contact form would not go through as apparently I am not human!

Mean number of seeds in packets. Poor value

Just bought sweet pea seeds from Unwins. Only 10 seeds per packet. In contrast I bought similar from Fothergills where each packet contained more than 22 seeds.
I won’t be ordering from Unwins again. I can see from reviews that other people feel similarly ripped off.

I have looked through our Sweet Pea collections and have noted that majority of them have an approximate seed count between 20-25, therefore this does look like you may have purchased a 'shortfall' packet.

A shortfall packet is a rare occurrence in which, the end of the line packet may be over or underfilled.

If you could email us with the variety of Sweet Peas you have purchased along with the batch code from the packet, we will be able to report this and arrange a replacement seed packet to be sent out to you.

No seeds - chilli

Bought some chilli's.

Got home ready to plant opened the packet.

No seeds, the foil was all sealed but not one seed.

Will not be buying again, we picked them up from a local garden centre - wasted 3 pound - thanks

First time I have bought Unwins seeds…

First time I have bought Unwins seeds in years. Today I purchased a pack of Chilli Seeds Demon Red from Bridgnorth Garden Centre. All packaging was intact so you can imagine my surprise when I tipped out 5 seeds. Yes just 5 seeds for £2.49 (49.8p per seed). I have sent the information to their sales email address because this could be a packing error and they should look into it.

I always try to review acurately so I can now say that Unwins have contacted me and we are resolving the issue, which was as I suspected a packing error. Annoying for them and myself but these things happen.

Rating adjusted accordingly

Awful seeds and a pain to resolve.

Awful seeds and a pain to resolve.
I have successfully grown Chard for years. This year I chose Unwins and wish I hadn't.
First batch failed, and Westland replaced them with exactly the same type and package date. They also failed. Complained again, and begrudgingly got a new packet with a more recent package date. These are also rubbish. Out of 50 seeds, 1 plant has grown to about 8", the rest are 1" to 2" tall and unusable.
What annoys me is the exorbitant price of these useless seeds. The originals were around £3.50 and the later batch were even more expensive. Westland seem to think they are doing you a favor by replacing duff seeds, but I have a simple answer for that.
Never again! If I find that if Westland are involved in any future seed purchases, I will "pass".
Oh, and their compost is not good either and complaints of large stones in it get you nowhere.

Edit. Germinated as in small green growth. I was really hopeful, but the plants never went any further. Compost is from a while back and your response was unhelpful.
I will really avoid your products in future.

ungenerous & over priced

Simply can't believe the TINY amount of seeds in a packet. For £3.99 I got 25 Viola seeds - unbelievable! 16 pence for a single tiny seeds...and an annual to boot. Bring back the days where you used to get about a 1000 seeds in a packet. mean-spirited. Up your game Unwins - does your rating on Trustpilot even register with you? clearly people are not happy

So absolutely gutted

So absolutely gutted. Spent a lot of time and effort preparing a grass bank, to turn into a wild flower garden.

Purchased 4 boxes of your country wild flower boxes. Was awaiting corn flowers, poppies etc.

It is now smothered in cinquefoil (very invasive) and not mentioned on the box! nothing else! I'm now going to have try and remove it all.

Disappointing

Only 5 courgette seeds in packet and only 2 germinated.They did offer to send me some seeds but not worth the hassle so gave them 1 star for that.

Bought Sungold tomato seeds from Tesco £3.49 and only 6 scrawny seeds in pack and none are growing. Contacted customer service and got no reply. Buyers beware, do not buy Unwin seeds. They are scamming the public
