This response is absolute nonsense.
Almost all UK motor insurance policies clearly state that if a policy is cancelled within the statutory 14-day cooling-off period, customers are entitled to a full refund, or at most a small, clearly disclosed administration fee. Keeping a large chunk of a deposit — over £300 — after just 4 days of cover is a joke and completely unjustifiable.
This was not a year of cover, not a claim, not misuse — just 4 days. Charging hundreds of pounds for virtually no cover is exploitative and totally out of line with standard UK insurance practice.
Reducing my No Claims Bonus from 5 years to ZERO without justification, taking payment immediately, and then refusing a proper refund is not “transparent” or “fair treatment.” Hiding behind vague terms and conditions does not make this acceptable.
If you were genuinely unable to locate the policy, that only highlights serious internal process failures. Customers should not have to chase refunds after money has already been taken.
If these practices are allowed under your terms and conditions, then those terms are clearly unfair and designed to financially penalise customers for almost nothing. I stand by this review and strongly believe this matter warrants scrutiny by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

🚨 AVOID QUOTE DETECTIVE – UNFAIR & MISLEADING PRACTICES 🚨

I had a very poor experience with Quote Detective that I believe other customers should be aware of.
When taking out the policy, I submitted proof of 5 years No Claims Bonus, yet Quote Detective reduced it to ZERO without justification. Despite this, they still proceeded to insure me and took payment immediately.
I was insured for only 4 days, cancelled the policy within the cooling-off period, and yet they kept my money instead of issuing a fair refund. This is completely unreasonable and feels like customers are being financially penalised unfairly.
The policy was later cancelled over “validation documents”, even though documents had already been provided. Taking money first, downgrading a customer’s No Claims Bonus, and then refusing a proper refund is misleading and unacceptable behaviour for a regulated insurance broker.
I strongly believe the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) should investigate Quote Detective’s business practices. Consumers deserve transparency and fair treatment — which I did not receive.
⚠️ Advice to others: Stay away from Quote Detective. There are far more trustworthy insurance brokers available.

Due to health issues I had to cancel my policy quote detective’s are very professional and are willing to help my advisor today was Carly she was very helpful and friendly a real credit to the team I will be back intouch soon to take out another policy as I think they are fairly priced and are there to help many thanks

Never mind the good I said about this company. They’re clearly incompetent beyond belief. I had left a positive review for huw as I assumed he dealt with my issue. On Monday, the 26th my policy was due to cancel as the payment was due, I explained to agent huw for an extension until the 28th or even the 27th to make this payment. Agent huw explained I would need to contact the finance provider but I explained to huw I was abroad for family matters and was unable to call, huw said he would be able to make the call on my behalf. After a few minutes huw got back to me asking if the date being changed to the 30th would work to which I said yes, huw confirmed this was changed for me. Fast forward a few hours later and I received an email from quote detective as well as the finance provider stating the policy was cancelled. Today, when quote detective were open, I had went on chat to discuss this and whether this email was automated, to my surprise, it was in fact not and the agent explained that the previous agent “huw” had made an error and the policy was never extended. This now means I’ve got a cancellation to declare permanently and constant higher prices from this utterly poor service and ridiculous company

Didn't really understand how insurance works in the UK and after I bought a campervan, they swindled me into insuring it for £2800 as some kind of commercial vehicle telling me that I won't find a better price.
I understand I should have kept looking and that I was naive, but this is their review based on their actions, hence 1 star.
At the end of the year they "found out" my campervan has windows... so they voided my insurance without any no claim bonus.
Went on to get my campervan insured for a normal price with about 600 quid.

The guy named Huw gave excellent customer service.I would personally gave him 5 stars.

Wouldn’t give me a refund for 30 working days so with holding £420 of mine

Spoke to a genuinely helpful operator called Jaimie, he couldn't have been more helpful if I'm honest, no complaints so far. A lot more information has to be provided than I've ever had to provide before for car insurance.

I had a question regarding insurance renewals, their agent quickly and effectively answered the questions with no extra hassle.

Had a phone call today regarding an issue with my insurance was sorted instantly, very informative and helpful with changing payment dates and informing me on what I need to pay and my insurance renewal dates, the lady on the phone her name was Charlie really friendly and kind and is nice to see these day 10/10🌟

Faith was very quick in responding to my email which was sent less then 8 hours and confirmed everything was good with my policy as had a letter to say pilicy being cancelled
