We had a power cut tonight at about 10pm. As it is Saturday night we had company. We just lit candles like in days gone by! We got a text message from Northern Grid after a few minutes to say the power would be back on by 23:30hrs give or take 30 minutes. The mains point must be in the house opposite us and your engineers turned up very quickly. The power was back on by 11:20ish! Top job, well done Northern Grid! Fantastic service. Just need to say that in the past we would have lit just candles! These days it was Jo Malone and Neom candles!!!😂😂😂

4 power cuts in 3 weeks

4 power cuts in 3 weeks. Stopped giving out reasons after 2nd power cut. Wouldn't have given review but just phoned by customer services for opinion of service and when I stated they stopped giving out reasons for power cut! Sheffield stopped phone call abruptly! Rubbish service and appears rubbish customer services!

We had a planned power cut on Friday…

We had a planned power cut on Friday 12/12/25.
When power came back on my central heating would not come back on. As I am 77, live alone and am on your "priority list". I called your call centre.
Only to be told you could not be held responsible for this. The advice given was to put on more jumpers and socks ?????
When I queried this, your call handler went away, came back and said supervisor agreed, put on more jumpers and socks. It is now
17/12/25 and I have had no heating or hot water for 5 days. I have no other form of heating.The central heating engineer is coming today and stated if the problem was caused by power cut, it could invalidate my warranty.
Which would mean I have to pay for it. As I am typing this it is 1.9 degrees outside and 14.1 inside.
So much for help from you.

Must do better UK

Still waiting for a reply over my complaint. The communication on the day of the power cut was poor. Over promised equipment and support and didn’t help. Lorry churned up the grass on the side of our drive way. No one has been to inspect it (again as promised) and no sign of compensation or attempt to put it right. Don’t trust them! It’s like living in a third world country!

Cleaning power unit/station near my home

I raised an issue about a power unit/station near to our house. It was full of rubbish, overgrown and had graffiti on there that looked dreadful. Their communication was fantastic - they responded quickly , assigned the work job and within a few days of raising the issue the space was completely tidied up and refreshed. Wow! So impressed.

Exceptional Swift Response

We had a power cut at 08:00hrs, called Northern Power grid at 08:20hrs and an engineer arrived within the hour and found and rectified the fault within 30 minutes. Unbelievable swift response and a very professional and friendly engineer. You couldn't ask for a better service, top notch.

poor planning from NPG contractor

Arranged a service alteration via Northern Power Grid using their chosen contractor.

They changed the date at very short notice as they had failed to secure appropriate permits, leading to inconvenience for myself and neighbours who had planned access arrangements and working from home etc around their original dates.

Contractor and NPG repeatedly assured the lane would not need closing, then blocked it when they came to do the works, prevent vehicular access for most of a day.

Rubbish and equipment abandoned on site for several days after they finished until I chased NPG repeatedly to get removed. They buried a drain which has still not been uncovered 2 weeks later despite chasing.

Would recommend anyone looking for a service alteration see if there are alternatives.

We live in the dark ages

More power cuts during the night! My IHD shows power off 4 times also because of this my ASHP did not do weekly disinfect. If you’re reading this Ed stop wasting money on solar farms and wind turbines and fix the infrastructure which is held together with an Elastoplast. I am 75 years old and need to keep warm in my home.

Absolutely shocking company

Absolutely shocking company, they should be no where near anything to do with maintaining power supplies
My husband is disabled and on the priority register
Where we live we have had now eight power cuts six of which have been over three hours and one that was 23 hrs

Their priority support was to offer to email a just eat vouchers for a coffee and sandwich which you could not even get due to a power cut and no way of receiving it

When we made a complaint they said they had issued £40 in vouchers
That is a pure and utter lie

In addition they are supposed to compensate you £95 if you have over four outages lasting more than three hours in a year

They have responded to him and offered the money
In three weeks they have not even bothered to respond to our case and enquiry so I am taking them to the energy ombudsman

They are a shocking waste of time and space

⭐ 1 star – Northern Powergrid: Years of lies, endless power cuts and zero improvement

For years we’ve had to endure constant, unpredictable power cuts in our area – sometimes multiple times a month, often lasting hours (sometimes over 24 hours). Every single year Northern Powergrid sends out glossy letters and emails bragging about the “millions” they’re investing to improve reliability. We’re still waiting to see a single penny of it make any difference.

If anything, it’s got worse. The latest outrage was a prolonged outage followed by massive power surges that completely destroyed our gas boiler and heat pump. Northern Powergrid eventually admitted fault and had to pay thousands to replace them – but that doesn’t give us back the days without heating in winter, the stress, the ruined food, or the constant fear that the next surge will fry something else.

We’re sick to death of the excuses, the meaningless “we’re working on it” replies, and the total lack of accountability. Despite all the money they claim to have spent, the service is unreliable, dangerous and frankly embarrassing for a supposedly modern energy network.

I’ve now taken this to our MP because clearly complaining directly to Northern Powergrid achieves nothing.

Avoid this area if you value reliable electricity. Northern Powergrid have had years and millions of pounds to sort this out and have completely failed. Worst energy network experience I’ve ever had – and it’s been going on for the best part of a decade.

UTTERLEY USELESS COMPANY !!!

Absolutely useless and extremely unhelpful, our meter is loose on the inside wall due to the plaster crumbling away as its a very old house, these lot in the end after weeks of communication told me it would charge me ONE THOUSAND POUNDS PLUS VAT to move it to the adjacent wall 30cms away.
TOTALLY DISGUSTING

If I could give 0 stars I would. The amount of power cuts I have in my area is a disgrace - I have medication that needs to be refrigerated and every time the power goes out, it causes extreme anxiety for me when I have to use the medication again in case it’s affected it. Their staff are no help and if you make a complaint they just give you excuses as to why the power keeps going out instead of actually fixing what is clearly wrong with the network.

So far my experience has been poor.. ordered an EV charger in August from octopus to find out I needed a deloop from my neighbour..multiple emails and just keep being told we have passed it to the scheduling team or we are waiting to contact your neighbour.. I’ve spoken to my. Neighbour who is retired and home every day so seems like an excuse/ delay tactic . Im having to charge my vehicle on a granny charger which isn’t enough some days as i travel various distances so im having to pay premium charge fees more than I would need to

Well it looks like I am not alone with poor service
In 2023, I asked to be delooped supply from my neighbours. As wanted an ev car charger fitted and solar panels. All they did was to update my fuse, which trips regularly
I have sent over 30 emails to them, even asking for a meeting. Most ignored including asking for a meeting. I also asked for Louise Lowe's head of customer services to phone me. That has not happened either. I am now in the process of involving my MP to help. Also Tyne tees television . As it seems to me they do not care and do what they want. No discipline at all .
Legal action is also going to be started soon as by law they have to remove my neighbours supply cable from my land, and I am losing money by not having the solar fitted .
Northern power grid, do not leave a
reply on here saying you are sorry.
Because it is just B crap and you know it.

Shocking experience

I have a pole on my land of which I have agreed to take out a wayleave agreement. This has now been going on for months with little of no progress being made. All I ask is to be kept up to date, however the lack of communication is shocking. No wonder there is an abundance of 1 stars. Does the CEO read these reviews.

Sick of power cuts in my area

Sick of power cuts in my area , now a regular occurrence. The information on their site is limited . States get in touch with chat , etc but no response. These power cuts are becoming more sinister as they are not being truthful about the reason for this . It does not take months for repairs . Approx 8 power cuts in two weeks - disgraceful

3rd power cut in 18 months

Just experienced 3rd power cut since moving here almost 18 months ago. Town of 15,000 so not exactly rural / remote. No power for about 9.5 hours from 11 a.m. Text message service keeps you up to date...fixed by 12:45...no 5pm...no 8pm...no 8:30pm. At least the text message says they aim to deliver 10/10 service...would love to know their plans to upgrade the local infrastructure. Ref INCD-687360-A.
