Cataract surgery…
I have been attending Moorfields eye clinic at Bedford hospital for a few years now. I suffer from really high pressure and was given 3 options to alleviate this. I was led by my consultant who suggested Cataract surgery on both eyes at the same time. Although the Cataracts were not really bad he said they would need doing at some point. I cannot stress enough how brilliant the whole team were all the way through, just amazing! From start to finish it was only 5 weeks and this was NHS not private. Highly satisfied and would definitely recommend.
Great staff in St.George's, poor management of appointments by centrally run customer service
I have been under glaucoma care for years. Appointments sometimes run over but the system of getting a huge number of people through lots of different tests is well oiled and all the staff are lovely.
Recently needing a first appointment for my husband, we were given a date 3 months into the future, which was when we had holiday plans. So i wrote requesting a change of date and specifying when we were NOT available. Despite that, the revised date we were given was the date we are leaving on holiday :-(. I phoned immediately to request a change to earlier in the day. After 2 weeks no news, so called again. The person who answered confirmed there was a note on file requesting the appointment be brought forward, but no sign of action. They said they would send a chaser. I waited another 3 weeks before calling again. The person who answered confirmed again the request had been made but also said there was nothing her operation could do about it, and eventually put me rhrough to the glaucoma department at St George's. There the employee Phoebe was great: polite, helpful, sorted the issue in minutes with an appointment one week before we leave. I am sure the medical side will be excellent as ever, great to have found a polite and efficient employee at the glaucoma outpatient end, but the appointment scheduling could certainly do with improvement.
It's a big shame D
It's a big shame!
How can you expect to be discriminated in a hospital?? In emergency care?? Waiting for more than 4hrs , people coming after you with no appointments taking in without waiting or after Minutes waiting. Nurses said you are the next one, someone came in waited 5 MN and the Dr took them in. Even the drops for dilation was not anymore useful.
I take Morfield urgent care at st Georges hospital responsible for any that will happen to my eye because they refuse to take me in. They refuse to give me treatment today. I don't know the doctor name but it's a big shame . This is my second bad experience with them. The first one I was careful to call it discrimination but today they proved it to me and everyone who was there.
Not as good as they pretend to be
Not as good as they pretend to be.
I had catarats operation, the first it was ok..with a good doctor. I have a lazy eye, the second operafion, they change the doctor, ignoring my request of having the same surgeon.
Becuase it was my lazy eye, and it seems as if the put somebody on training, she was clamsy, using my face as a support from her hands, I had pain since the anestetic was gone, the next day. TODAY. I took the patch off, and it was all read, swallow, pain. I called the hospital, they said, "it is normal", and it is not! She was tough, an Unexlerience surgeon, she harm me, they told me, it is normal. "Is not", I know my body reaction to operations. And I never had this in the first operation. The first was very good. No pain, not read eye. Of course, they use better doctors for the good eye. And for the lazy eye, it seems the train people in this kind of operations, they used unexperience surgeons, they do not care!.
The visiion of the new operated eye, is the same or worst than before. They did not put a good prescription lens either,
What is the use of the second operation then? To make money out of my eye?.
Why they did not listen, When I ask for the same surgeon?. They do not listen to patiens anymore, and not all the doctors are good there!.
I saw the surgeon just in the theatre, she did not came to see me before, I have to ask to see her in the theatre, before she operate. Otherwise, I would not see her at all. A mess! Very bad for a famous hospital!
Recent telephone enquiry
I am compelled to express my praise for the exceptional patient experience with the lady I just spoke with in the Appointments Department.
Her form of engagement with my enquiry was almost polished to perfection, with clear diction and a demeanour that was approachable, friendly, super-efficient, and helpful.
What a genuinely outstanding ambassador for Moorfields , well done!
Failed twice to get a video A&E triage
Tried twice to get a video A&E triage. Both occasions, whilst in the queue, it suddenly cut off. I have 1GB broadband that works fine for Teams meetings and FaceTime conversations so no chance this was my end.
URGENT REFERRALS
Following a visit to my optician at the beginning of February my GP referred me urgently to the vitreoretinal clinic at Moorfields Old Street. To date I have not received an appointment. I contacted the outpatient appointments line and was rather alarmed to find that my referral had not even been medically triaged and that it was unlikely that I would receive an appointment until April. I am a retired Consultant Physician and previously a Medical Director having managed a wide range of specialist services across a large acute NHS Trust. I find it quite shocking to find that the management of urgently referred cases is dealt with so lethargically by such an apparently prestigious organisation that is spreading its wings to provide services and generate income across the UK which it appears not to be able to deliver efficiently. Despite making a complaint via their PALS team and Medical Director by email I have received no response.
I want to thank Maria from their Pals…
I want to thank Maria from their Pals department who has been absolutely terrific in sorting out things for me after they changed computer systems which let to me being somewhat confused with appointments. All the staff at Moorfields treated me with great respect and care and attention when I visited which I greatly appreciate. Well done Moorfields. Carry on with the great work
Just like any other NHS A&E
I was suffering recurring bright lights in my left eye and was advised by a retired pharmacist that as I have PVD, this is not good as it could be a tear on the retina requiring urgent attention. She said to go straight to A&E at Moorfields as its an emergency and to cancel my Boots appointment as I'd be wasting time. I told her as my cab fares would be well over £100, I better ring first. I did so and was advised to speak to a nurse rather than just turning up at A&E where I would be seen, "eventually". He told me I'd have a long wait on the phone, possibly a few hours but to hang in there. Well I got cut off after 10 minutes. Kept trying but no good. Got very upset. Decided to go to a private clinic 10 minutes away by cab instead as felt that this matter couldn't be left. Shame I had to pay dearly for the consultation and retina exam. I find it baffling why the retired pharmacist seemed sure I'd be seen very quickly at Moorfields but I guess so many patients have the same symptom that its first come first served
Very bad hospital they steal my father …

Thanks for Cataract Op.!
I had a cataract operation on 27th January at Moorfield Elder Ward, St.Georges Hospital.
I cannot thank enough the cataract team - Dr Gallo, the surgeon, Sharon and others who did all the pre op checks and reassured me.
Absolutely amazing how my 85 year old eye has been rejuvenated!
Thanks to all again.

Brilliant hospital and amazing staff
I had the opportunity to consult with Dr. Ameeta Kumar during my visit to the A&E Department on Saturday, January 25, regarding ongoing issues with redness, discomfort, and blurred vision.
Dr. Kumar exhibited a high level of professionalism throughout the examination. She was not only kind but also very thorough in her approach, ensuring that all my concerns were addressed. Her attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively made me feel at ease during a potentially stressful situation.
I appreciate her dedication to patient care and her commitment to providing comprehensive evaluations. Overall, my experience with Dr. Kumar was extremely positive, and I am grateful for her expertise and support.
Great overall service since I entered the hospital. THANK YOU!!!! Marianela Velasquez
I was given an appointment at…
I was given an appointment at moorefields Ealing, I've never been there before so I was accompanied by my carer. When we arrived it was closed! Not a single person around and everything was locked. So we went to A&E and we called moorefields in city road, nobody knew though the receptionist at Ealing A&E was surprised because she said they were closed, and said it must have been created by mistake. Now it's going to show as I did not attend. This is so annoying can no one get anything right.
Terrible experience of Moorfields…
Terrible experience of Moorfields children outpatient department. So inefficient process e.g. all children 1.5 hour wait for nurse visual acuity test when not necessary for presentation. Left waiting 3-hours after appointments time to be seen with 7-year old. Staff dismissive and rude when ask about wait. See a registration that doesn’t acknowledge the wait and was dismissive and obnoxious as soon as got in room, used jargon and no eye contact to introduce himself to child. No interest in neurologigical signs, contradicts with not bothered to look at child’s eye, firstly said improvement then acknowledges improvement is just measurement range of error so not real improvement. Tell us not ‘real problem’ but will not discharge and needs to see again with no explanation. How does a child or parent understand this. I would not recommend this hospital.
I visited St. George Hospital
I visited St. George’s Hospital in severe pain, penniless, and in desperate need of help. I explicitly told the staff I couldn’t afford a painkiller due to the cost-of-living crisis. Despite this, I was met with indifference. The receptionist delayed my care with unnecessary questions about my GP instead of addressing my emergency. When the doctor suggested a scan, they didn’t provide any immediate pain relief or clear directions for navigating the hospital. I felt lost, both physically and emotionally.
This experience has left me deeply shaken. Hospitals are supposed to be places of care, but here I found no compassion, no understanding, and no humanity. I never imagined being treated this way when I was most vulnerable. It feels like the system has failed not just me, but the very idea of what healthcare should be. I left without receiving any help. How can this happen in a civilized world?
This is not just about poor service—this is about losing trust in humanity."
AMAZING SERVICE
I recently had a small eye operation at the Moorfields clinic in St Georges Hospital, Tooting. From the minute I arrived to the minute I left I have nothing but good to say about my treatment, from the nurses, assistants to the surgeon who performed the operation. Everyone strived to make me feel comfortable and unafraid. A special shout out to Robert, the theatre assistant, who was friendly, caring, professional and treated me like a friend, not a patient. This was all on the NHS too.
Excellent professional eye care service
Moorfields dealt with a vitreous detachment which occurred in my left eye. In my case it caused a blood vessel to burst and which landed on the retina. Three doctors assessed me/agreed no surgery required. The blood depleted and I also had a surgeon examine my eye one week after my initial visit who concurred with the doctor's view that no treatment was necessary.
Simply fantastic, I received the best professional eye care possible. The nurses, doctors and surgeon were highly professional. Additionally all the admin, receptionists, and security were friendly and helpful. I felt welcomed and respected. I thoroughly rate Moorfields!
Fantastic doctor
A recent bleed in my eye necessitated a trip to Moorfields A and E. I was dreading it, as my local A and E is shambolic. However, Moorfields was efficient, streamlined, and caring. The only change that would be for the better are the initial receptionists, who are rather self important and too busy chatting. A minor irritation.
Disaster of a hospital
Disaster of a hospital, communication is bad to say the least , no one knows what the other are doing with your “ case “ ! I was referred by a consultant in another county as an urgent referral for a potential malignancy ,to another consultant in Moorfields ( first week in august ) no one contacted me , so since then ive been messed around, given false information , emails bounced back after i did my research, NHS emails go into the private sector ! no response, promised phone calls that never materialised, eventually got a phone call appt , ( by video) i told them that at 76 yrs of age i didn’t want to be contacted by that method ..ok we’ll put you down for normal calls …. more video link appts ! all this time no clinical appts and my as yet today undiagnosed and my condition causing me great deal of anxiety. This Hospital is an absolute shambles
I would like to share my today…
I would like to share my today appointment with Dr. Malik and staff.I would say from reception welcome until finished my an appointment everything was fantastic and very nice co operation.Again Thank you very much to all of you.
