Mistakes do happen

The lamp was brought for a valentine’s present. It wasn’t suitable. As the colours were too dark. So we contacted the company and explained the problem with had we them. They told us to return the the candle lava lamp. I put it back in the box it had come in. My husband then wrapped the whole thing in a plastic bag, with brown tape. We sent it with EVRI, and we didn’t get our £50refund. We called the company to be told our parcel had a candle and a pray mat in it. Now I am told I didn’t send back the lava lamp so I don’t get a refund. How do I prove I sent the lamp and that they have made the mistake. The company said contact EVRI. But they don’t answer. And you can’t speak to anyone. So I am not a happy person right now. And £50 down

Mathmos lava lamps still being manufactured in UK

Very pleased to hear and then see that Mathmos lava lamps are still going strong. Also good to be able to see the full latest range of products in person. Only problem was difficulty actually finding the Mathmos premises which is tucked away on a vast industrial estate with very confusing road layout. I think there should be more signs/directions displayed if possible to find the building.

Kundenservice :(

Meine zwei gekauften Mathmos Astro Lavalampen in Matt Schwarz gefallen mir sehr gut und machen was sie sollen, mir Freude :)
Der Kundenservice aber hat mich sehr enttäuscht. Meine bitte, Ersatz für einen fehlerhaften Aufkleber per Post an mich zu schicken, wurde nach langen Diskussionen per E-Mail abgelehnt.
Zu einem Premium Produkt, mit einem Premium Preis gehört auch ein Premium Service. Andernfalls bleiben unzufriedene Kunden, wie ich, zurück.

Update 11.03.2025: Wie oben geschrieben, viele Worte statt Kundenservice.

Wir verstehen, dass der Produktionsaufkleber in der Basis für Verwirrung sorgen kann. Aufgrund einer laufenden Umstellung von 35W auf 42W Leuchtmittel kann es vorkommen, das einige Astro Basen in Schwarz noch mit dem früheren 35W-Aufkleber versehen sind. Wir möchten Ihnen versichern, dass Ihre Leuchte sowohl mit 35W als auch mit 42W Leuchtmitteln sicher betrieben werden kann.

Proceed with caution

Short version: Very beautiful lamps but some of the products don’t work and returns are problematic.

Long version: I bought an EVO candle powered lamp, plus a new replacement bottle for my existing electric powered lamp base. The candle powered lamp didn’t work. I actually think this design concept is fundamentally flawed. The fluid inside the bottle never heated up sufficiently to get the colours to flow, even after running a tea light for over 4 hours. The replacement bottle didn’t work either, same problem. It warmed up on my old electric base somewhat and the colours moved a bit but they never flowed in the same way as original bottle that I bought with my lamp does. Disappointed, because they really are nice looking products, I carefully packaged them up ready to return.
However you can’t just send them back. Whether faulty or just because you don’t like them you can’t exercise your consumer right to return without first emailing their customer services. They replied asking me to send videos of the products not working. Their email referred to them conducting an ”investigation” after which they will “try to help with returns”. It was very much as if they didn’t believe me and that getting my money back might be in question. I had to completely unpack all of the stuff again, run them for 3 hours and video them not working. After sending the clips I was finally sent returns instructions and documentation. They commit to completing the “investigation” and arranging refunds within 14 days. After chasing twice, the second time being 17 days after I posted the package I was advised the refund was being processed and to allow up to 5 further days. The money was finally back on my card 3 days short of a month after originally emailing them asking to return the items.

I think there’s a fundamental issue here. To get two bottles that don’t float the colours in one order seems problematic to say the least. Returns processes appear to be designed to keep the customer’s money in their bank for as long as possible. I would suggest that people proceed with a purchase in the knowledge that you might be one of the unlucky ones and end up with faulty products and hassle trying to return them.

mathmos hat einen schlechten kundenservice

ersatzlavalampen bestellt, extrem viele luftblasen in den glaswänden eingeschlossen. die qualität ist so schlecht geworden , meine alten lavalampen sind ca 15-20 jahre alt, haben keinerlei luftblasen in den glaswänden. mathmos akzeptiert aktuell den widerruf nicht, habe paypal kaufererschutz zum schlichten aktiviert. schade , mathmos ….

Service client excellent!

Un grand merci à Nathalie du service client Mathmos suite à une commande effectuée j'ai rencontré de grande difficulté avec le transporteur UPS c'était vraiment horrible j'ai cru ne jamais recevoir ma commande et Nathalie à su prendre en charge ma problématique a trouver une solution et a me contacter jusqu'à ce que ma commande me soit livré. Je tiens à la remercier c'est un service client au top à l'écoute des clients et qui font tout pour réglé le problème alors un grand MERCI ! C'est important de souligner cela car ce n'est pas toujours évident par Internet. Un grand merci une équipe digne de de confiance et professionnel je repasserais très certainement commande grâce à vous! Merci ☺️

I really love my Mathmos Lava lamps

I really love my Mathmos Lava lamps; I have both an Astro and a Rocket model.

Today, I visited the Mathmos showroom at their factory, where they have loads of Lava Lamps in various colours and I bought a new clear with a black wax bottle for my Rocket Lava lamp and can't wait to get home to try it out this evening.

I will definitely be visiting their showroom again.

POOR SERVICE: Ordered a lava lamp from Amazon but…

Ordered a lava lamp from Amazon but then spoke to someone and decided to cancel well ahead of disptach - next working day got a notification from them and DPD saying that I should expect delivery - when I asked why it hadn't been cancelled their reply was that it had already been dispatched for delivery so too late to cancel. Later that evening I got a message saying sorry but your item will be delayed 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I fully suspect it had in fact not been dispatched and could have been immediately cancelled and now I have the inconvenience of waiting until they try to deliver it (which they could constantly delay) to be able to refuse delivery and for them to acknowledge return and refund me when given the fact its still not been sent out they could easily have just cancelled and refunded immediately. Looking at these reviews I'm not holding out much hope of a quick solution either 😔

Disappointing evo lamp

Purchased the evo candle powered lamp. As I write the tea light candle has been burning for over two hours (in fact it's almost run out) and the lamp has done nothing. The wax has risen into a bubble and just stayed there. What a disappointment. Have contacted mathmos but really not a good showing for this item.

Mathmos products are designed to explode?

I recently bought an Astro lamp and a spare halogen bulb from the Mathmos website, and when it arrived I was pleased to see they had included a second spare bulb free of charge (this is apparently standard). But seconds after setting up the lamp and turning it on, I heard a loud 'pop,' so I rushed to turn it off to discover that the glass casing around the bulb had come apart. Thankfully nothing else was damaged so I switched the bulb with a spare and the lamp went on to work fine.

I contacted Mathmos customer service about the incident, requesting another spare bulb to replace the one that's provided as standard (which all bear Mathmos' branding, by the way) but was told that this was not unexpected and replacements are only supplied in cases where both provided bulbs have failed. Not really satisfied with this response, I contacted them again saying that I wouldn't expect their products to explode under any circumstances, especially given the premium price, and that I was particularly disappointed having paid extra for an additional spare, which I believed would be of good quality. Their response to this was to once again say that this was normal behaviour for these bulbs but they kindly assured me that explosions like this would not pose a safety hazard as they would be contained within the base of the lamp

I would like to be fair in this review and say that the lamp itself does at least look good, though I am unfortunately unable to enjoy it as this incident has soured the experience.

Halogen bulbs are delicate and operate at high temperatures, which can occasionally result in unexpected failure. However, all our bulbs meet the necessary safety standards, and our lamp bases are designed to safely contain such occurrences.

To account for possible transit damage or early failure, each lamp is supplied with an additional complimentary spare bulb. Furthermore, our one-year coverage includes bulb replacements if both supplied bulbs fail. We understand this may not have been the experience you expected, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.

Schlechter Kundenservice und mittlerweile leider eine schlechte Qualität

Ich habe vor Jahren bei Mathmos eine Neo Lavalampe bestellt und war mit der Lavalampe sehr zufrieden.

Zu Weihnachten wollte ich mir dann mal ein anderes Modell kaufen und habe mir Im Dezember 2024 die Rakete bestellt. Die Lieferung enthielt zwei Leuchtmittel, die innerhalb weniger Tage defekt waren. Beim Einschalten der Lavalampe brannte das Leuchtmittel durch. Daraufhin habe ich von Mathmos aus Kulanz zwei neue Leuchtmittel erhalten. Wovon mir eins diese Woche auch schon wieder durch gebrannt ist. Ich habe dann diese Woche wieder den Kundenservice kontaktiert und mir wurde geschrieben, dass es an dem Transport liegt. Ich wurde gefragt, ob ich noch ein funktionierendes Leuchtmittel hätte und mir wurde geraten mir eine Spannungsschutzleiste zu kaufen. Ich habe daraufhin geantwortet, dass ich mir keine kaufen werde und mit der Lösung nicht einverstanden bin. Bis jetzt habe ich darauf noch keine Antwort erhalten. Die Lavalampe hat 115 € gekostet und ist noch nicht einmal einen Monat alt. Hätte ich das gewusst, hätte ich mir auch eine No Name Lavalampe kaufen können. Mir sind jetzt noch nicht einmal im Laufe eines Monats drei Leuchtmittel durch gebrannt. Bei mir war die Begründung übrigens auch der Transport. Wie soll ich denn aber anders an die Artikel kommen? Bei der alten Lavalampe hatte ich nie Probleme. Dabei wirbt Mathmos ja immer für die gute Qualität. Ich weiß nicht, ob die Qualität in den letzten Jahren nachgelassen hat. Ich bin gespannt wie es weiter geht. Für mich wird es wahrscheinlich die letzte Mathmos Lavalampe sein.

Voor retourkosten (€ 10,00) opdraaien ondanks een defect en slecht afgewerkt product is geleverd!!!

Ik heb een niet-werkend en slecht afgewerkt product (Mathmos Astro Vinyl lavalamp) ontvangen oftewel een 'RMA'. Deze wil ik retourneren en ik mag voor de verzendkosten opdraaien.

Vreemde manier van zaken doen. Voor mij een reden om nooit meer iets bij Mathmos te bestellen en ook géén producten meer van hun via andere kanalen aan te schaffen om hetzelfde klantonvriendelijke handelen te voorkomen.

Als je op deze manier met klanten omgaat, verdien je geen klanten! Jullie reviews zijn bijzonder slecht en klanten die hetzelfde ongenoegen uiten over € 10,00 retourkosten moeten betalen in geval van een defect/niet-werkend product.

Er is namelijk een verschil tussen retourneren omdat je je hebt bedacht, het product niet (meer) leuk vindt, niet meer nodig hebt óf dat een product defect en slecht afgewerkt is afgeleverd. Voor dit bedrijf maakt zo'n kwestie niets uit.

PAS OP: Een gewaarschuwd mens telt voor twee!
