So great to see all the different models of lamps on show and knowing that the bottles are filled in the same building is fascinating too! Great to see the limited edition lamps on show, as I’ve only ever seen them on the website. Staff member was friendly and knowledgeable too. Great to purchase a genuine lamp that has the long history of the company attached to it. Enjoyable experience.
Having owned a Mathmos lava lamp in the 1990s and recently purchased a tea light powered Fireflow lamp in 2021, I had no hesitation in purchasing an Evo lamp- the latest in the range to be powered by a tea light. This is a full sized lava lamp lit by a tea light
I am familiar with Mathmos lamps and also the time it takes for the lamp to get warmed up for the lava inside to flow. This one, using the tea lights supplied did NOT illuminate the lamp and it took nearly 2 hours for the lava to flow which eventually flowed in an awkward column and stayed stuck like that
2nd go was worse- no movement at all, as was the third . I also tried different tea lights - this made no difference. No matter what candles I used the lamp neither lit nor did the lava flow properly
I emailed Mathmos and got a patronising email telling me the room was too cold- this being August in a heatwave !!!
Sadly the design of the Evo product is no good . THE CANDLE IS TOO FAR FROM THE LAMP. Plenty of other people are also complaining about this lamp , with equally patronising responses from Mathmos. I hear other ludicrous suggestions, like putting the candle on a bed of pennies to raise the height of candle!
Getting a full refund - including postage - as is my rights under distant seller regulations - has seen an equally patronising response from Mathmos . “We have tested the lamp to be fully operational and therefore as you have decided to return the lamp you are not entitled to a refund on postage “.
Typical haughty and snooty response from a British supplier - our product is fine, it is you that is at fault because your room is too cold. It reminds me of John Cleese’s take on British hoteliers - “the hotel would just be fine if we didn’t keep getting these pesky things called guests staying here “
With such an attitude towards long serving and loyal customers you DESERVE to go bankrupt , because your products are not cheap . Rather than accept the feedback and remedy your design flaws, you are condescending and haughty towards your customers.
Next stop- trading standards and I encourage others in the same position to do the same . Never been refused postage on a faulty product before

I ordered two lamps from Mathmos and I really wanted to love them and be able to support a British company by giving them a great review. Unfortunately, the complete opposite has happened.
I ordered a violet Neo Mathmos lamp from amazon, and then I ordered a green one directly from Mathmos as amazon didn't have that colour available. They were both a huge disappointment. The colours on both were wishy washy, they both had the logo right there on the bottle, which spoilt the look, and the glass had weird reflective lines that ruined the whole thing. Neither looked anything like the online pictures. The green one also appeared to have been badly shaken in transit as it arrived filled with tiny flecks of wax, and the blob of wax at the bottom didn't move.
I hated them both and returned the violet one via amazon, and was refunded for that. However I had to return the green one to Mathmos and they've been very difficult about it. First they sent me an email giving me a list of extra packaging I had to provide to make sure it arrived in a "resaleable condition". The item arrived damaged, it's not going to return in a resaleable condition, is it? And why should I provide even more packaging that it originally came with? I returned it in the exact packaging Mathmos provided.
They were also difficult about the postage. Instead of providing a QR code for returns like virtually every other company these days, they only provide a printable label. I don't have a printer, so had to go to the library to do that. (they did eventually say they would send one through the post but by the time they finally responded to that email I had already printed it myself.)
A week after they received it back, still no refund. I emailed them and they say it takes two weeks for them to check the item before they initiate a refund. And who knows how long the refund then takes to come through? Absolutely ridiculous time to wait. What are they even checking? They have agreed the item arrived damaged, but they are so difficult and have so many negative reviews I really suspect they are going to try and pull a fast one, claim I didn't use enough packaging and it was damaged in transit or some nonsense, and refuse to refund. If they do, I'm doing a chargeback through the bank. I am sick to the back teeth of dealing with this company, they've been nothing but a nuisance, stress and disappointment.
And their lamps don't even look good in real life. You can buy a better one on amazon for less than £15. Avoid this company. I will update this review to let you know if the refund ever comes through and how long it takes.

De base, j'aime leurs produits. Mais leur service client est aussi très bien : une des ampoules que j'avais commandé est arrivée cassée. Le SAV m'a renvoyé gratuitement et rapidement deux nouvelles ampoules. Les envois sont toujours rapides et le SAV est réactif, je suis très satisfaite.

Purchased a rocket lamp in July (2025) whole buying and delivery process was perfect.
The lamp is very high quality, I don’t mind paying for quality so this isn’t an issue.
Had a tiny issue, which required a quick phone call to customer service once again fantastic.
Definitely I will be a returning customer 
Terrible customer service. I paid 50 Euros for a bottle and the screw cap came off so I needed s new screw cap and they told me to throw out the old one and pay for a brand new one. What a waste of money and nature for just a bottle cap. Never again Mathmos.

Unsere Lampe kam leider sehr wackelig, und im Stand schief sitzend an. Dementsprechend Retour.
Ganz offensichtlich versucht man es dem Kunden so schwer wie möglich zu machen, eine Bestellung zurückzugeben (keine Rücksendeadresse angegeben, man MUSS den Kundenservice anschreiben) Dann wird man noch nach Bildern gefragt, nachdem ich es dann nicht mehr eingesehen habe noch mehr Bilder zu schicken, trage ich nun die Versandkosten alleine. Aber immerhin nach zwei Tagen Email und Bilderaustausch plus zwei mal Anrufen endlich die Möglichkeit die Lampe zurückzuschicken. Auch hier wird darauf hingewiesen, dass man selbst die Kosten zahlen muss, sollte die Ware beim Versand beschädigt werden. Sehr unseriös. Kann bedauerlicherweise nur davon abraten, hier eine Bestellung aufzugeben.

Retoure nachweislich am 12.06.25 per DHL bei Mathmos eingegangen, verpackt wie angekommen (im Oroginalkarton etc.), dennoch erhalte ich Mahnungen und Aufforderungen zur Zahlung.

I use my lamp infrequently, and had purchased in late 2023 a multipack of 10 bulbs. These have a year long warranty, however the purpose of buying a multipack of bulbs is that it is supposed to last longer than 12 months.
I recently have used the lamp more often, and find that several of the bulbs blew either immediately, or after a short period. This is unacceptable given the cost.
Given how temperamental the bulbs are, I believe this is a known issue to Mathmos. Customer service have, despite having full sight of my order number, refused to rectify the matter, which ultimately would have been cheap for them to do. Not impressed from what you'd think is a quality British brand.

Had a few issues to begin with that took a while to get sorted at first. Mostly the standard GU10 bulbs, went through 4 or 5 in a weeks use combined. They are awful bulbs.
However Mathmos agreed to send out the GU10 to G9 adapter to try and since then I haven't had a single bulb issue.
I highly recommend anyone with bulb quality issues to give it a go. Its solved all issues for me.

Every time I order something from this company there's an issue. This time, DPD courier failed to ring my bell, knock on my door, or even give me a courtesy call, no card or anything. Two days in a row I've had to take unpaid days from work and now I have to take ANOTHER, to go to whatever far flung shop the driver deems it appropriate to drop it at. I asked for the order to be cancelled, no response. This was after they took payment for next day delivery, knowing well that there was a two week lead time on the product I'd ordered (information I had missed in the blurb). This was refunded

We've had one of these lavalamps for over 20 years, and recently my dad passed it onto me (with some refurbishment!) The base unit is the same, but the bulb and lamp itself were changed (still fit perfectly). Unfortunately, the bulb blew 2 months after installation, but when we reached out to query they sent 2 new replacements out completely FOC, and they arrived the next day. Really pleased to see the service is as good as the lamp. Thank you!
Ik ben heel blij met mijn mooie Telstar lavalamp. De blauw/gele variant is echt heel mooi, super gave toevoeging aan ons interieur. Echt fantastisch gemaakt! Geweldige kwaliteit! En ook de verpakking is prachtig.
Always a pleasure to engage with Mathmos - my family association goes way back to the 1960's !! My father had one and stated that it was a 'great little babysitter' as we would watch it 'mesmerised' by the flowing bubbles of wax - great fun !!

The bottle of my lamp was faulty: the wax was sticking to the sides of the bottle and didn't dissolve properly.
I contacted the customer service (as advised in their FAQs) and they sent me a new one without hesitation.
