Called on 13 occasions to try and book a spa day, managed to get through on one occasion and spoke to a receptionist who didn’t seem to know anything, even what time breakfast finished! She left me on hold for 10 minutes and so I then gave up. I left lots of messages for a call back and nothing! This place appears to be run by people who have absolutely no idea about anything! Still haven’t managed to make a booking, think I’ll probably go elsewhere.

The Lifehouse Hotel and Spa at Thorpe-le-Soken sells itself as a luxury hotel and spa. It falls far short of this expecation. The accommodation is in urgent need of investment. Rooms are spartan. There is no air con. Instead there is a table top fan which merely stirs the air. The hotel describes this as "eco". It is merely cheap. The room was like an oven, day and night. There were no drawers for clothes, only 3 coat hangers each and none of the usual toiletries. The shower was large but mould was growing on the joints. No one had cleaned under the bed for some time. Your introduction to the restarant after booking, will be a letter tellng you to vacate the dining room by 20:30 at dinner. You will be pelased to do so. The restaurant which is priced very high fails to match the standard of most pub chains. Service is slow, service staff are friendly but untrained, food quality is most disappointing. Inconsistent quality and even content. The menu is fixed but the "same" item may be different on different days. The food is heavy, tough meat, lacking in flavour, sometimes cold, limp salads, overpriced desserts. At breakfast expect burnt toast (the toaster needs adjusting) and rubbery scrambled egg if there is any. The spa is of a good size and has the usual facilities for this kind of hotel but is heavily oversold so often crowded from early morning until late evening. It is sometimes unavailable when booked for parties. Bar prices are very high for ordinary beverages and there is a poor wine list. The car park is some distance from the main entrance and there is no shade or shelter for vehicles. The main lounge and relaxation rooms can be very noisy. On the plus side, the grounds are nice though the loungers on the lawns set a new standard for discomfort. The front of house staff are very pleasant and as helpful as they can be within the limitations of the hotel policy. Best to choose any one of the many alternative spa hotels available elsewhere and get better value. Most disappointing.

Attended end of July’22 accommodation is dated, carpet’s stained. The bed was so noisy that it creeks with the slightest move that it caused a disturbed nights sleep that my wife was tempted not to stay the second night.

The communication from about bookings were non-existent that they changed the time of our massage without informing us. After us proving via email they confirmed the wrong time they did fit us in.

The two massage staff were great and and the most up beat staff onsite.

For a place that advertises food allergies they are poor with options or documentation of ingredients on menus.

The spa area was dirty and in need of maintenance with missing tiles in the spa and pool.

Would not recommend or be returning myself.

I love this spa and go often. It's lovely and spacious with a lovely outdoor garden patio area set on beautiful grounds. Always friendly staff and good food. I usually buy a deal through Buyagift and book as it normally works out better value. I am disappointed to see they only do overnight stays offers on Buyagift now as I prefer just a spa day.
Overall though I always feel relaxed and refreshed after a day at this spa.

This unfortunately proved to be a very disappointing day on many levels. The lack of communication from start to finish was not existent with the booking being cancelled without knowledge and then having to re-book. There was no confirmation email and treatments were booked without our knowledge. When we arrived they told us we had missed our treatments - they did finally fit us in but there was no choice in the treatment we had. The afternoon tea was double booked. They did finally sort a time out for us and the tea when we had it was nice. There were far too many people booked in which meant there were no loungers available and very little room in the sauna or steam room. Such a shame as this was for a very special occasion. For these reasons would not recommend as exceptionally expensive for what is offered

What a disaster from start to finish. Was there for a special occasion and continually served alcohol but then refused the food I had paid for as my group and I were “apparently” too loud! The staff are rude obnoxious and patronising and the place is run by inexperienced children. This place if run professionally could be amazing. Do not recommend one bit!

This quite a disappointing spa. It is more of a hotel with a swimming pool. The day I was there i couldn't even book in for a treatment as the staff told me they were fully booked. This was very frustrating as all i wanted was to pay for my wife to have a massage. The music at lunchtime was loud and not relaxing at all, more of a club atmosphere. There were alot of big groups acting very loud and drunk, nothing like the brochure says it is "a retreat, relaxation or serenity". That is not what I experienced here.

Absolutely disgusted with this place. 7 of us booked an evening spa experience and all had treatments booked separately. This was for my mums 60th birthday. We arrived with balloons and a cake. We were told the balloons were not allowed next to our table in the restaurant. (Silly rule but fair enough.)

To have our own cake we would also have to pay a surcharge. (Even though we wasn’t eating cake instead of one of their deserts. As we had paid as part of the package for a 3 course meal.)

The treatment was very standard ( 50 minute Swedish massage for £80) There was talking in the room next to me throughout and the sink in the room had a fault. As the water system was draining from other rooms it was leaving an awful “gurgling” sound from the room I was in.

The spa was nice and we had 2 hours in there before our dinner reservation.

During this 2 hour period we were purchasing cocktails, wine and shots and taking them into the spa in plastic glasses.

So by the time dinner was ready some of us were rather “tipsy”. However no one was rude or disrespectful to any other diners. In fact a couple of diners came up to us to wish my mum a happy 60th.

A member of staff rudely approached us and told us to be quiet in a very patronising manner.

We had ordered our food and then an hour after waiting (May I add still in this hour the staff were serving us alcoholic drinks) they asked us to leave. They blamed it on the fact that one of our party looked under 16 and had been served an alcoholic shot.

If they believed this was the case they should of asked for proof of ID before serving her.

They were using her as a scapegoat to make an excuse for us to leave.

By this point they had ruined the meal. We would of happily left with receiving a full refund for the 3 course meal we had all paid for but hadn’t received.

They didn’t want to do this.

So we refused to leave. They called security. All were lovely and actually sympathised with us except one.

Being a group of women (All ranging from 60 to the youngest being 30 except the granddaughter) the one security guard became very intimidating and said he would physically remove us if needs be.

A male diner came over to defend us saying we had done nothing wrong and the problem was in fact with the management as they had also been extremely rude to him and his wife.

The security guard started to become physical so I intervened and called 999.

The police came resolved the situation and were actually great. He agreed it was a joke and advised I complain in the morning. The management asked the couple that intervened on our behalf to return to their room and asked them to leave the bar! (This was their wedding anniversary and they were being treated like school children!)

Please don’t go to this establishment if you don’t wish to be treated with hypocrisy in supplying you alcohol for hours but then telling you not to laugh at your table! And like a child in that if you don’t do as management stipulate you’ll be penalised like a child too.

And all of this for just under £600!

Absolute Joke!!!

Took my friend over the weekend first time being away after lockdown and recovering from cancer. After been allowed to swim after a long time was very disappointed the pool area was swamped with sun bedside people jacuzzi over subscribed with 16 people in it.
No Covid consideration shown.
This came out in conversation during being served breakfast and shortly afterwards Anita came to tell us she had managed to secure a 1/2 hour private swim. My friend dissolved into tears overwhelmed with the kindness shown. After which Emma in reception took us to the private area.
I cannot thank you enough for this it was so greatly received and above and beyond. Please relay our gratitude

This is a very disappointing as spas go. It is more a hotel with alot of beauty treatments, not a retreat as many spas are. It was extremely busy, so much so that I could not book in for a treatment despite being there for three days. Very loud music at lunchtime and at night, alot of drinking, hen-do type atmosphere. Do go if you are with a big group going for a laugh but do not go if you are hoping for what the brochure promises, a retreat, relaxation or serenity. You will not find it here.

Poorly cleaned and maintained..

The rooms are not cleaned thoroughly; dust and dirt is noticeable everywhere, maintenance of small touches/finishes are not good. The spa facilities, whilst it must be hard to to keep pristine, are looking a little sad and missing attention -- there are missing tiles in many areas of the spa and this isn't something new as some of these have been missing since my last visit some months ago. The staff are polite and courteous and show great pride in their role! Food and beverage services are phenomenal... My review is intended to highlight some of the keypoints missing from what could be an amazing experience for everyone who visits.
