Today we were given an amazing free gratitude workshop given by the lovely Dolly - who was absolutely brilliant! Such a knowledgeable professional lady who dazzled us with her product & skincare knowledge. She took such great care of us so please please pass on praise to the spa manager!!! 🙏🙏
Afternoon tea was exceptional and again service in the restaurant was top tier.
We will be back!
Thank you to all - don’t change a thing.

Just come back from a lovely overnight spa break at Lifehouse. I’ve been a number of times and always generally have a great time (the one time I didn’t was due to a drunk loud group of women making lots of noise at nearly midnight in the room next to me).
Check in was quick and staff were lovely - my room was ready early too, result. Clean spacious room, I had a contemporary garden double. Duvet was a little heavy / thick for my preference (pillows too) and it was a bit too warm in the room for my liking which I couldn’t really do anything about but it was quiet & otherwise good. Nice little touches like hot chocolate in the room. Yes the decor is a little dated but I didn’t find it run down in any way.
Bar area is lovely with great drink choices. Nice place to sit and relax and read a book. I noticed people asking for take away drinks where they could be in plastic cups to go in the spa, I didn’t take advantage of it but great idea.
Spa area -there is always fresh lovely towels & staff check it regularly. Jacuzzi is spacious, and always bubbling away -some of the headrests need adjusting / refitting because they cause a bit of spray in your eyes / face etc with the bubbles going. I managed to get a lounger, you’re best going in the spa 5.30/6 ish if you like it quieter, it’s lovely soft lighting too. Sadly the steam room was broken for both days of my visit which was a shame because it’s one of my favourite things to do in a spa.
Dinner was fab, great service, staff friendly & accommodating. Food was delicious! Small portions but delicious. Lovely wine.
Breakfast was fab, I did have to go find someone to ask for a Cappuchino but otherwise good breakfast set up. You don’t have to book either you just turn up. Lovely scrambled eggs & sausages.
I had a mini facial rather than a full one because I booked treatment a bit late, lady was lovely & products were good, felt very glowy when I came out.
Grounds are beautiful so make time to take a wander, lots of history to the site, old stone walls & ponds/ streams.
Don’t be put off by bad reviews.
Thanks Lifehouse for another great stay!

I booked lifehouse spa as a birthday treat for me and my fiancé who was turning 45. I was excited and then wasn't when I read the reviews. I wanted it to be a perfect gift but was totally put off reading the negative and 1 star reviews. I called the Spa to cancel and got transferred to the manager Beth who assured me I would have a lovely time and not to be put off but she would stay herself and was working the weekend I was booked in so if I had any issues to go to her.
Anyway, in a nutshell my partner and me had the most amazing time.
The service was impeccable and this was throughout the Spa , from booking in, afternoon tea, dinner , lunch, Spa itself.
I have no idea why anyone would rate it so poorly. Our room , the food was absolutely amazing, we loved the Spa, it was fairly busy but we always managed to get a bed, we used all the facilities including the relaxing room, had a facial. There is not 1 complaint.
Our dinner was up there as the best we've ever had anywhere out.
Please do not be put off by the reviews, it's a wonderful place to stay and each member of staff was welcoming professional and just a joy to speak to

far too many people booked in for the facility - no where to sit - and when you do find a seat you can only leave it for 20 mins or they clear you stuff away - everyone hovering about waiting for a bed/seat - need to have 3 times the size of the facility for the amount of bookings you except - food expensive and small portions - breakfast just about acceptable - only as it was included in the room cost - front desk staff not very good at giving instructions - spent 20 minutes trying every locker to open to then be told by a customer what you had to do! husband was directed to a door for men's changing and then the signs vanish - we even had to tell other guest how to operate the locker system! not somewhere I would recommend others to go and not somewhere we would return to for the prices charged..... such a shame as we were so looking forward to our weekend spa break - we arrived 11.30 Saturday and left at 9.30 Sunday. really not worth the journey

Awful place . I become ill after breakfast i couldn’t keep anything down . I then had afternoon tea booked I asked to cancel it as I was so ill and they said no because it’s not 48 hours before . It was Charlotte who was dealing with me who said I was probably ill due to the cream used in the food so I believe it wasn’t just me who had this . The afternoon tea was boxed and looked more like an Iceland meal deal for £33 . No fresh cream cakes all defrosted cheep little cakes . We stayed for 2 days and rooms are basic . Never again .

The hotel was really cold, walking back and forth I was literally shivering. The lockers weren't explained to us when we arrived and we nearly lost my engagement ring because we thought we had locked the locker with a room key only later to be told you have to have a specific band and allocated locker.
Food was good, mafaldine pasta with chilli and lime absolutely unreal!
I'm concerned that I'm covered in bites since all over my feet and ankles so perhaps there's a pest problem in the carpets? There was staining and damp in our hotel room. The spa itself looked in need of a refurb and a good scrub with limescale creeping up the walls etc.
We had to go back to reception to ask for our prosecco on arrival, after reading the other reviews I'm so confused as to why they are so precious about their prosecco!
I could have really used a flannel as well but couldn't find any available.
Treatment was nice, and my fiance who doesn't usually like massages enjoyed his.

I’m genuinely shocked at these reviews…
I treat myself annually for a nights stay at the lifehouse usually around Christmas time, last week I had a one nights stay with full access of the spa each day and even a complimentary treatment - we secured this deal via their autumn sale email back in October. We had an incredible lunch , dinner & breakfast worth absolutely every penny we was never hungry. Drinks allowed in spa which is perfect for us , managed to get a lounger chair every time we used the spa. Room was extremely tidy we had a lovely view too of the grounds and we had a gorgeous long walk around fabulous location. Last year I had room service for dinner this year we sat in the restaurant was perfect food & ambience was just right. The only thing I could possibly say was that they should be stricter on the dress code for dinner, I noticed most people dolled up for dinner myself and boyfriend included but some in gym wear / very relaxed clothes. Other than that I have nothing to complain about the staff are top notch , especially the guys at reception really bubbly and was very friendly. Noticed the pool staff regularly cleaning every 10 minutes refreshing towels and checking pool water. Great job , just an over all beautiful spa that is clearly very well taken care of and no surprise for the amount of amazing awards they have received. Thankyou very much kind regards Ruby & Ethan x

Relaxing place BUT unfortunately me and 4 others experienced coughing and sore eyes whilst in the spa. Thought maybe we were just a bit sensitive but even when we left we continued to cough. 4/5 of us woke in the early hours experiencing gritty sore and streaming eyes. Emailed the spa who eventually replied a few days later and told us their hourly readings were all within levels. It’s just very strange for 5 people to experience symptoms similar to Chlormaine gas exposure and it be a coincidence

⭐️ 1-Star Review: Deeply Disappointing Experience & Poor Issue Resolution
My friends and I attended a Baby Shower Pamper Day at Lifehouse Spa & Hotel on 20th November, and unfortunately, the entire experience fell far below expectations — especially for a venue with such a strong reputation, and one that several of our group have enjoyed in the past.
From the moment we arrived, the facilities were uncomfortably cold. Common areas, treatment rooms, and even the therapists' hands, towels, and massage oil were freezing, making relaxation impossible. One friend was even given a damp, unpleasant-smelling towel on her treatment bed. To add to this, many parts of the spa felt unclean and dated, which only amplified the discomfort and detracted from the overall experience.
The massages themselves were unexpectedly limited; we were told only “medium pressure” was available, something never mentioned at booking. Had we known this, several of us would not have proceeded. Lunch service was also poorly executed, with starters and mains arriving at the same time.
By the time we were able to use the spa facilities, we had less than 45 minutes before needing to leave — hardly the relaxing day we paid for. The pool (the only option suitable for our pregnant guest) was too cold to use, and the jacuzzi was overcrowded and uncomfortable, made worse by witnessing inappropriate behaviour from another couple.
While management on the day acknowledged the heating issues, the explanation didn’t mitigate the overall poor quality of the experience. We were not informed in advance that the facilities were cold or operating below standard — information that would have influenced our decision to attend.
What made everything even more disappointing was the response we received afterwards. Despite raising multiple legitimate concerns, the spa declined any meaningful compensation, citing the complimentary gift bags given on the day — something that was never presented as a final resolution. To then be told the matter was “closed” simply because we accepted them is extremely poor customer service.
Overall, the pamper day felt uncomfortable, poorly managed, unclean, and nowhere near the level of care or professionalism we expected. The refusal to offer appropriate compensation has ensured that none of us will be returning or recommending Lifehouse Spa to others.

I am writing to share our awful experience we received during our recent stay at The Lifehouse Hotel & Spa.
Reservation Details:
Package: Love Life Spa Break – 3 Course Dinner, Bed & Full Breakfast, and 25-minute Spa Treatment
Total Cost: £449.00
Additional Payment: £60.00 for upgrading two 25-minute massages to 50 minutes each.
This stay was a special 30th birthday gift for my wife and a much-needed child-free break for both of us, especially after the challenges of welcoming our second child in June. My wife had been recovering from post-natal depression, and I booked this experience in July with her well-being in mind.
We arrived at 10:00 AM, excited to begin our day and night of relaxation. However, upon check-in, we were informed that our upgraded 50-minute massages had been scheduled for AFTER our check-out time the following day. This was obviously both surprising and extremely frustrating and it wasn't communicated to us prior to our arrival. When I inquired about this, the response was that “we have been busy” and the treatments were "fully booked," and we were offered no alternative solutions.
Given our childcare arrangements and the need to be back home on time, receiving treatments after check-out was not feasible and even if it was, it's not an acceptable offer for anyone at a Spa break. When I requested a refund for both our treatments, I was told that only the upgraded amount(£60.00) might be refunded and not the full cost of the treatments. This response was unsatisfactory, considering the circumstances. By this point, we were both so angry and frustrated that we were going to request for a full refund for the whole experience and were prepared to drive back home - we were that annoyed and it completely ruined the mood of our welcome and stay.
After escalating the matter to a manager, our treatments were rescheduled to the original day. While this resolution was appreciated, the experience had already caused significant stress and disappointment, overshadowing what was meant to be a relaxing getaway. Sadly, later that morning I overhead an elderly lady complaining about the exact same thing - so either they gave our treatment times to them and just passed the issue on or they were booking multiple treatments for after people’s check out. Just genuinely a disgrace that this appears to be common practice here.
To make matters worse, around 3:00pm, my wife returned to our room to drop off her luggage and prepare for her massage. At that time, her parents got in touch asking if the surprise gift they had arranged was in our room — it wasn’t. My mother‑in‑law then phoned Lifehouse, who said they would sort it out.
At about 3:45pm I went back to the room to drop off my luggage and change, and to my shock I found ourfront door left open with the security hatch on — meaning the room had been unsecured for at least 30 minutes, with all our belongings inside. I also saw a fruit bowl had been placed in the room. Assuming this was their surprise gift, I took a photo to send to my in‑laws to thank them. They replied that the fruit bowl was part of their gift — but that they had also paid for a £50 bottle of prosecco, which clearly still had not been delivered by Lifehouse... So not only had the prosecco not been delivered, and our room door left open and unsecured, but they essentially ruined the surprise moment of walking into our room and seeing the bottle of bubbly waiting for us. Frankly, this just summed up how the day went — it felt as though Lifehouse just genuinely didn’t care.
Finally, the following morning we had our back doors open and were awoken to a man whose room was directly under ours on the ground floor smoking marijuana and all his smoke smell filled our room. Not nice at all.
It is clear from the service received that this spa hotel is not what it once was. It was careless, sloppy and just made us feel more uptight and anxious as opposed to being relaxed. A complete waste of £600.
It’s worth noting that I gave Lifehouse the opportunity to make amends and to offer us something for the experience we had. They came back with a complimentary room upgrade and a free bottle of Prosecco the next time we came. Obviously this was not a satisfactory gesture of good will hence why I am leaving this review.
Would not waste your money and would advise you to go somewhere else.

We visited the Llifehouse Spa and although the staff did their upmost it was certainly not the relaxing experience we were looking for. Check-in was very slow and when our room was eventually ready (we had booked an early check in only to be told it was not ready and then when pressed the receptionist called up to the cleaning team to find out it was ready) it then took a further 15 minutes to retrieve our checked in bags. We had paid all our bills and so only needed to return our robe on check out - the queue was virtually to the door.
The spa itself was so busy that we could only find one lounger to share between 6 of us and the jacuzzi was not accessible due to there being so many people in it at any one time.
Be warned that there is a cake corkage charge of £3.50 a head!!
Overall a very disappointing day/evening and when I wrote to express my dissatisfaction they offered me a free glass of prosecco on my next visit - I won't be returning unless it really can turn itself around.

Avoid the massages. Treated ourselves to a few days here and after paying £100 for an hours sports massage (requested firm verbally and on the form) spent the next 45mins a basically getting petted. The massage was cut short too and after pointing this out to management got offered more relaxing petting so politely declined.
This might be great for women to relax but does not help your body.
Breakfast and dinner was also underwhelming for the cost. Fantastic grounds and gardens though.

I have visited Lifehouse Spa a number of times and always raved about it. However my most recent visit left me very disappointed.
Considering the prices they charge, the whole place is very dated, worn, over crowed and some areas, dirty.
The spa looked like it hadnt had a deep clean for a very long time. Plunge pool and steam room were out of service. All loungers were occupied and no space to get in the hot tub as there were so many people in there.
Our room was also dirty with marks and stains on the curtains and walls. There was no water in the room either.
The treatment i had cost £99 and i didnt receive the elements listed. I had a fan blowing on me the whole time (it was not a hot day and on bare oily skin this was very uncomfortable).
The food was higher classed than it needs to be - with the higher class price tag to match. You couldn't get something for lunch for under £20 and dinner was even more expensive.
They could benefit from a snack / juice bar for during the day.
Every member of staff was extremely welcoming and friendly and made the stay for us.
The treatments were so booked up there wasnt any availability to try and book one a week before arriving. You used to be able to see what you fancied on the day.
I definitely wont be going back or recommending anymore. Very poor value for money.

Risposta di Lifehouse Spa Hotel
We booked an overnight spa stay and its advertised that you can use the spa facilities both days and so we booked treatments for both days.
Whilst the treatments were good the spa area was very crowded with guests reserving day beds with towels and then leaving even though signs say don't do it. No staff addressed this.
The sauna wasn't that hot and a bit tired looking.
We had dinner elsewhere as prices were expensive and only one veggie option.
Breakfast was disappointing. One staff member was overhead moaning about feeling ill and how she had wanted to call in sick but too many others were off.. given she was working with food this was very off putting.
The cooked breakfast was cold, cold plates used and congealed egg ( there was only one left at 7.45am!) Tinned tomatoes were also on offer. The cold section was good though but guess that was all bought in!
On the first day we had been given a locker each in the changing room. On the second day we were told we weren't allowed new robes and had to share a locker between us in the corridor. If you advertise that guests can use facilities on the second day unsure why we were treated differently on that day as opposed to the first day.
Room was ok but nothing special, we had a garden room which is advertised as having a patio area unfortunately this small area was not maintained and had weeds in it as well as the surroundings.
Won't be returning.

I recently visited for lunch and a few drinks, and while the location still has potential, I felt the experience didn’t quite match the prices being charged. In the past, table service was a real highlight — staff would take the time to check in, offer drinks, and make sure everything was perfect. Now, service has shifted to queuing at a hut, and there’s often a long wait for both food and drinks.
The building itself could benefit from a refresh, as it hasn’t changed much since my last visit two years ago. With the right marketing strategy and stronger customer service leadership, this venue could really shine. At the moment, it feels like cost-cutting has led to fewer staff or perhaps not the right staffing levels, which impacts the overall experience.
It’s still a place with great potential, but for the prices charged, I think customers will expect a higher level of service and attention to detail.

Tonight, Head chef James Mullenger served up a culinary delight. The fare on offer was a plethora of locally sourced, culinary masterpieces. Each dish was comprised of skilfully selected combinations of elements, resulting in a small menu of consistently well executed dishes.
Unable to wait for the main event, we ordered appetizers. A substantial sharing portion of juicy, green Nocellara olives made the perfect partner to the deliciously dry rose prosecco on offer. Accompanying this we enjoyed provolone piccante, hand cut spicy Italian salami and tarallucci. The salami had deep, rich and complex flavours, the provolone perfectly piccante and the tarallucci was a cheesy, flaky pastry biscuit, that melted in the mouth.
The mackerel pâté special was my most enjoyed course of the evening. A quenelle of deliciously salted mackerel pâté was complimented by bitter leaves, perfectly cooked, earthy fennel, rich pea purée and teamed with the delicate flavour of seared cucumber. However, the pinnacle of the dish for me, was the most incredible, sharp, pickled rhubarb; which perfectly cut through the creamy pâté. The rhubarb, which transpired to have inspired the whole dish, had been picked from a family member’s garden. A truly fantastic testament to the artistry and skill of the head chef, who maintains a focus on compiling seasonal dishes that add interesting and wonderful specials to the menu.
The main course was divine. I do love a steak, but the dry aged sirloin was something else! Set on a bed of cauliflower purée and rainbow chard, it was served medium rare alongside a beautiful sorrel based pesto. Clearly a high quality cut of meat that had been seared exquisitely. A charcoal flavour crusted the outer, whilst the knife slid through the well rested, juicy beef as if it were butter. Spectacular to say the least and by far the single best steak I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Once again, simple food, well executed, the sign of a talented chef who is clearly one to watch.
The wait staff upscaled the already impressive experience, by giving top notch service. They demonstrated excellent knowledge of the menu and wine selection, giving thoughtful recommendations. All of the staff were smiling and friendly, they worked well as a team, keeping the busy restaurant turning over nicely at a pleasant pace. There appeared no intent to rush patrons through their sitting, but service was still attentive and taken at the diners own pace. Attention to detail was superb and clearly high on the agenda. Any allergies were ascertained early and the cleanliness, sleek style and ambiance of the restaurant only served to elevate the whole dining experience.
Do feel free to let me know when the next special graces the menu. I would love to experience the skilful craft of Mr Mullenger again. Particularly as he continues to develop new additions to the menu, that demonstrate his artistry in developing tantalising offerings, with simple, high quality ingredients.

Things go wrong, how you put them right counts and LHS have no idea. I had a disastrous pedicure, (applied too quick and thick at 4:45, still not dry by 8 pm). When I brought this up I was embarrassed in front of many other guests, lied to and blamed repeatedly by the fake smily guest service msg. Lost most of our 2nd day just trying to resolve this and had to just do lots of waiting around to speak to a manager that never materialised. Eventually spoke with the incredibly rude guest services female. Offered a repaint which I no longer wanted as was there to spend time with a friend not the beautician. This was offered again as I was due to leave and catch my train. Quite simply don't go and if you do I hope you have no hiccups as no one is trained in customer service - they don't even know who their manager is or their own complaints procedure. Have never come away from a spa more stressed than I went in but that was the case with LHS. No quality and no customer service.
In Response to LSH reply. A simple refund would have been adequate for a faulty treatment and that is the only thing that I kindly requested. I am afraid your team let you down badly with the way I was treated in front of so many other guests in a busy bar area. The fixed smile fell from your guest series manager's face as soon as I started to explain the problem. There was a pretence of listening to me and then blame was apportioned on me repeatedly. The same lady hung up on me when I called and politely asked the name of the manager. In my letter of complaint I provided the date and time in order that you could listen to that call. Your team let a simple error with a simple treatment escalate and it has all left a very bad taste.

I bought vouchers from Buy a Gift for this establishment for my son and his partner as gifts for birthday last May. As they had a child not long afterwards, they waited until this year to use the vouchers as a special treat they also booked the couple spa and added this to the booking. I also booked a manicure for this years birthday, which was a surprise.
Unfortunately the spa has declined and is in need of a serious refurbishment, splintering wood in the sauna, which was also not hot, cold jacuzzi and overall a bit tatty. For some
reason not only did they spoil the manicure surprise, they also spoiled the manicure by doing it just before the couples manicure!
The massage itself was very limp and lacked pressure and finesse.
I have asked for a refund but been told no, they can come back.
WHY would you want to!
My best advice for anyone contemplating wasting their money here is DON’T. It’s run down with therapists who clearly don’t know what they are doing and management don’t care.
Go somewhere else.

Risposta di Lifehouse Spa Hotel
Firstly I would like to say you can not fault the staff here. They are polite, helpful and accommodating.
We have stayed annually at this spa for 10 years now, however on previous visits we noticed it was starting to feel a bit out dated. On this occasion lots had changed with one locker between two people, one of the spa steam rooms was out of order, the sauna was not working properly and the temperature was low. The venue was so busy and the jacuzzi was full and well it just looked like it could go with a spruce up.
The restaurant menu had completely changed and got the first time we were stumped what to eat. Nothing took our fancy, we usually have chateaubriand this was not on the menu. They had a spring vegetable risotto which I opted for which stated zucchini and asparagus, this came out with sweetcorn, broccoli and just felt like a child’s supper.
Breakfast is a buffet but not self serve so in the morning the queue was very long and the server was giving out exceptionally hot plates saying be careful the plates are hot, I in-fact burnt my hand as my table was quite far away. Also I think for a spa serving up a fry up is not very fitting with health & wellness I’d like to see poached eggs, smashed avocados or omelettes, eggs Benedict etc. Not potatoe tots.
I had a treatment, a Elemis deep tissue massage by a Daisy. I’ve had a treatment every year and all a bit hit and miss, however I would highly recommend daisy she was absolutely incredible. Best massage I’ve ever had.
Outside of that, I think if Life House invested in a refurbishment of the spa & facilities, tailored the menu to be more versatile and more bistro and healthy options for breakfast I think it would be ok. It’s incredibly pricey and you wouldn’t mind paying if it was 5*, but when it looks tired and the main features have things out of order it seems a bit steep. Also the check-in and out system is the worst I’ve seen in a long time. We queued for 30 minutes just to hand in a robe & locker key.
But the setting is beautiful, the patio in the sunshine is beautiful and has a little outdoor bar and food.
I would love to come back but it would need an update and refurb before I considered.
