(Vauxhall Corsa 2013) service Rip off
Took my car (Vauxhall Corsa 2013) in for a service on 02/06/2026 at Scunthorpe Autocentre. Got a call later in the day from the auto centre that the sump plug thread has been damaged. They claimed it must have been done at the previous service and they need to replace the sump tray and it wll cost £528.60 for a replacement. I was told the car cannot be moved as they are unable to put oil in it unless repaired. I had no choice than to agree. The £528.60 was in addition to £260 I paid for the service + MOT. In total I paid £744.59 for a Corsa service with replacement of sump tray. The Auto Centre claimed the £528.60 was the cost of the sump tray. Later checked with Vauxhall and a corsa 2013 sump cost is £80! A blatant rip off. Effectively they have charged me almost £450 for labour to put a sump tray. I would never have allowed them to do the sump change if I had been able move the car from their garage.

I highlighted a couple of issues to them - they responded saying they couldn't find anything wrong. Took the car to another garage and they had the problem diagnosed within 10 mins!

What has happened to Customer Support?
Yesterday I made a purchase from Halfords for a Back Support for my Drivers seat, I purchased one years ago from one of their shops, it was brilliant, but needs replacing now. I need it urgently because of a long journey I am going on tomorrow. I opted for Next Day delivery, paying an extra £3 for this service. DHL contacted me to say it would be delivered today, a short while ago (approximately 1445) I received an email to say it would not be delivered today, hopefully tomorrow. Being an Elderly, Widowed, Pensioner I do not make frivilous purchases and certainly not extra delivery charges. I have tried to contact Halfords, the email was not delivered, the address shown online is no longer in use. The telephone number took me to the Cycle Dept., when I said how I wanted the Complaints department He put the phone down, the other telephone number shown also is about motoring or cycles. I will have to break my journey tomorrow to get the Support from another
Supplier. Halfords used to be helpful, it would appear not now!! Oh and maybe They should use Royal Mail for next day delivery, in future!!!
Lack of Communication & Misdiagnosis
I had a disappointing experience with Halfords Autocentre in Braintree. I took my car there under warranty, as they were recommended by my warranty company, but unfortunately the service fell far below expectations.
They declined to complete the correct documentation required for the warranty assessment, which caused unnecessary delays. I was also told they would contact the warranty company directly as they couldn’t carry out the work, but my warranty provider confirmed they never received any communication.
I was later contacted by the autocentre asking for my email address so they could send me an outline of the work needed, but again, no email was ever received.
After having my car for around 20 minutes, I was told the issue was a Cam Carrier leak and that they were unable to carry out the repair. As they didn’t provide the correct documentation to either myself or the warranty company, I had no choice but to seek a second opinion from another garage.
To make matters worse, the Braintree branch recommended I try their Colchester branch instead. However, when I contacted Colchester, they also confirmed they couldn’t carry out the work. I was asked who I had spoken to in Braintree, and from that conversation it became clear that the staff member there used to work at Colchester and would have known they couldn’t do the repair either. This resulted in further unnecessary time being wasted.
After going to another garage, it turns out there was no Cam Carrier issue at all. My issue was actually a rocker cover leak, which is far less extensive and significantly less expensive to fix.
Overall, poor communication, an incorrect diagnosis, and unnecessary delays led to a very frustrating experience. I would not recommend based on this occasion.
Avoid Halfords Weybridge - Unjustified MOT failure over a minor defect
I booked an MOT at Halfords Weybridge, and my vehicle was failed by inspector M. Wakim for a "discoloured light bulb."
According to official DVSA MOT guidelines, an "Incorrect colour" position lamp is explicitly classified as a Minor defect, which should only result in a pass with an advisory note, not a test failure.
I have photographic evidence from the DVSA system (clearly visible on the inspector's monitor) showing that "Incorrect colour" is categorised as a yellow "Minor defect," and not a red "Major failure."
Failing a vehicle and demanding a re-test for an issue that the DVSA states is a minor defect shows a severe lack of manual knowledge or a dishonest practice to generate extra repairs.
I am taking this matter to the DVSA for an official appeal.
Do not trust this branch with your vehicle testing.

I had to come back on this!! . I have seldom seen a score of 70% of one star reviews if ever . Well if all the staff are complete morons like the one had the misfortune to encounter I'm not at all surprised . And why aren't the directors of this crap company asking what the F is going on then I remembered they just keep taking the money !!!
Appalling service by Halfords
Appalling service by Halfords. This is the first time I have tried to use them - previously used a local National Tyres depot (who Halfords have taken over and ruined) and will never use them again.
Booked my car in for 2 new tyres, paid upfront on line 2 days before, with a time appointment for 12 noon. Had a number of emails reminding me of the date and time. Turned up 10 minutes early as requested only to be told that the car would be ready by 5pm
5 hours to fit 2 tyres?? A 15 minute job
Needless to say I cancelled the order and I'm still waiting for my £330 refund
South Shields Double Tyre Change
I booked an online double front tyre change with NTS / Halfords after buying two premium competitively priced tyres . Online site was user friendly and there were no issues & I was offered a booking date within 48 hrs
I attended Halfords Autocentre South Shields 03.06.26 staff confirmed my booking , courteous and informative . Car was left and I was contacted 40 minutes later to advise vehicle was ready for collection.
Tyres were as ordered and fitted correctly . No issues.

Couldn’t have been more helpful in urgent replacement of damaged tyre
Great staff - ripoff prices!
In all fairness great, helpful staff but when it came to paying the bill for a replacement front N/S Wishbone I was, to say the very least surprised. The wishbone can be purchased for around £60.00 in many cases much less. However the bill for replacing from Halfords was £362.97 ! Over around £300.00 pounds of labour and to me, dare I say somewhat of a ripoff.
Very disappointed with Halfords but certainly a learning curve for the future. I would note on the same model car last year the bill for the same work was less than £200.00 at a local garage!
On line chat line gets disconnected & given wrong information
We need confirmation of the oil used in a service. On the chat they said they need the Reg and date. We gave them that and they said they need the booking number. We did have this so we send them the Halford receipt. They said that was no good. We then had to call the local Halford who were very helpful and gave us the booking number. On chat they now said that the job was not booked in my name (it was booked under our company name). All we wanted was an email confirming the oil used and after four hours online I still do not have the email that we need. Disconnect three times and given incorrect information several times. Bunch of crooks
My daughter booked her car in for a routine service. They told her that they had found metal debris indicating that there damage to the engine, and that she needed a complete new engine for about £5,000. On probing further their story got more and more preposterous. She took it elsewhere, where they found the problem and sorted it out. Halfords have a reputation for trying to persuade customers to have unnecessary work done, but fraudulently suggesting that the whole engine needs to be replaced is taking that to another level!
TOTALLY RUBBISH DO NOT USE
TOTALLY RUBBISH! NEVER EVER USE THEM! Booked a dpf service for 8.30am booking time, but it stated to arrive at 8.10am to prepare. Took car there 8.08, it stated. Saw service manager, he took keys and said it shall take a while and he shall phone once completed, as the car needed to warm up, (Lie 1) so I left and wandered round local stores for over an hour, not had a call so about 9.40am I thought I would go back see when car would be ready, I could see the car was still parked Service manager said it was not ready, had to warm up! (Lie 2) I said you have not even started? He said no, it would probably be done this afternoon! so he could have had me walking all day around the town waiting for his phone call!!! I asked for refund and left.
Tyres not on Site
On the 27th May, my car was booked in for two new tyres for the following Tuesday 2nd June. In the 6 days between the booking being made and the appointment date, I had numerous emails and texts reminding me about the appointment and advising to get there 10 minutes before the allotted time. This we did and the car was duly dropped off with reception. Half an hour later, instead of getting a call to say the work had been completed, we were advised that the new tyres had not been sent and that they thought they would be there at some point that day, no timescale and not even any certainty that they would even turn up today. The appointment was for 08:30.
So despite having 6 days to get the tyres sent in, despite the numerous reminders about the appointment and despite actually dropping the car off, it was only over half an hour after the appointment slot did they advise that the tyres were not even on the premises. I presume they don't think people have anywhere else to be, jobs to go to and can just hang around on the off chance the tyres show up.
So we cancelled the appointment and now have to wait for a refund - which I am sure will be something I need to chase up and now have to go elsewhere to get the new tyres. There was no apology from the garage (Ruislip, Middlesex) for a wasted morning. They clearly cannot see the irony of spending all week reminding me of my appointment when they didn't even have the product on site! Perhaps they need to do less of reminding us, the customer, and more making sure their own ducks (or tyres in this case) are in a row first!
We will definitely not be using Halfords again and I would certainly not recommend them.
Knowingly fitted the incorrect tyre?
I drive a range rover with a very sensitive 4x4 system that works on everything being as it should. A week before visiting halfords I had brand new tyres put on at another garage, a week later one burst as I hit a curb. Rang Halfords who were nearby and requested the specific tire I needed (22" pirelli scorpion which they sometimes don't stock, hence why I specifically rang up to check) and they confirmed they had it, and I had it fitted it within the hour and I went on my way. However began having problems with the 4x4 system and differentials, when taking it to a garage they spotted the problem straight away that one tire was completely odd compared to the other others. Halfords had put on a completely different tire to what I asked for and gotten me a bill of around £5000 in repairs. Halfords handled my complaint like a parent would handle their child's death, terribly. in the end I sued them and paid out
Absolutely appalling service
Absolutely appalling service. Never book their Mobile service.
There is no feed back , you are charged a fee for the call out but noone turns up and you left stranded with no number to call. The main number you get a call centre somewhere in Africa ,and all they say is we cant get through to the hub. One tried to fob me off with a £20 voucher yet could not even give me a time of when they would arrive to fix my car. I was then booked for the next day and assurred it will be done first thing in the morning , and guess what again noone showed up!! So had to stay in again and loss of business and I had to do the calling again to find out if they were turning up, only to be told that (standard Answer) " We cant get hold of the Hub".... worst motorcare business ever, stick to the cheap gimmicks in their store but as for Mobile service and all the others, they are useless and a joke. Stay clear and all they do is take your money first. But when you want refund, then you must wait. Absolute shambles and disgusting service.
Damaged my car, then took "before" picture
Damaged 2 of my alloy wheels during tires change. Manager admitted to damaging one, then customer support refused a whole case.
Friendly & helpful technicians, but a frustrating experience
I had an MOT at a Blackpool auto centre and 30 minutes after the test was due I had a call to say I had no oil (fair enough I should have checked this beforehand but forgot). I was told they didn’t have any oil to top it up for the test (I found this unbelievable, I’m pretty sure most garages would have some spare for such occasions? If I wasn’t desperate for the test I would’ve cancelled and asked for a refund and gone elsewhere).
The technician was helpful at rearranging my MOT quickly as he knew I was going on holiday. Unfortunately I was working on the rearranged day and needed up spending £28 on taxis to/from the garage.
The staff were pleasant & friendly and did do their best to book me back in before my MOT expired. Very easy online booking process at the beginning.
I score 3/5 purely for the inconvenience and the extra money I spent on taxis, which I know was partly my fault, but anyone I’ve shared this experience with has also been surprised that they didn’t have any spare oil on sight.
Avoid Halfords
Made the mistake of going to Halfords to sort my aircon.
Was working when I went in, after regassing from an aerosol there was a problem which they refused to acknowledge and wanted to charge £140.
Took it to a professional who diagnosed Halfords had caused the problem by introducing air into the system, sorted professionally at half the price!
