Awful union
Awful union. I've sent around 6 emails to my rep who just ignores me. Tried calling my local branch, no one answers and no one gets back to my voice mails. Tried calling the central branch but they just told me to call my rep. What am I paying for?
Cancelled today. Don't recommend in 2024
Paid this for 3+ yrs, only once needed help to investigate previous employer leaking my personal information, which caused fraudulent direct debits with their conspirators.
When actually needed help was told:
'too difficult for us to deal with, wait for ICO response first (3 months+) '
No accomodations for disabled users either after I explained I need email communication.
They also increased subscription today, not paying extra for nothing.
They used to be great back in 2010 for my mother, but time has changed and corruption is ripe nowdays.
So I join for help and suport and I…
So I join for help and suport and I got nothing advice not to make a complain for health and safety issues suffered at work ask me to sent the copy of grievance to them and they will advice me on that and im still waiting until today !
Well done GM
Persuaded not to pursue tribunal
I called a grievance on Renault for bullying in the workplace, withholding tools needed to do my job, sexual harassment, sex discrimination and a culture of racism and stereotypes towards customers. I accumulated 3 months worth of evidence and email trails AT LEAST. I was told by RUSSELL, usually they would not support someone who has joined the union after the incident has occurred however due to the severity of the complaints and Renaults history of bullying tribunals they agreed to take it on and sit through my grievance hearing. They were shocked by my evidence. When we sat in the hearing he advised me not to speak. So I sat listening to him questioning my dealership principal and HR. I put my head down and looked at the table because I didn't want to appear confrontational. I sat like that maybe 5 mins. I eventually looked up and was barked at "yeah you can look at me all you like". I said "I literally just looked up?" My union rep then said "now I can see exactly what she's talking about. I think we will have to terminate this interview here and we will discuss how we will be taking things further. Melissa, do not say anything further please get your stuff and we will leave they're in trouble now they shouldn't have done that". So we left and went outside. Eventually my dealership principal followed us out to the car park where him and my union rep began to full blown aggressively ARGUE. My rep said "you need to apologise to her right now that's not on." My dealership principal said I don't have to apologise I can apologise in my own time if I need to." I told Russell "look it's ok don't worry about it". I was so used to being spoken to wrongly in that workplace it was a minor compared to some of the other stuff. Everyone was investigated for misconduct & I mean everyone. At the final hearing the area manager had said that he "has gone over all of the evidence and can't find anything untoward? He then spoke to my rep briefly citing that he could see he's Indian and although he's a white man he was brought up in India. That was it. My rep said he trusts their decision and we won't need to take it any further. Another example of how race can affect decisions on people's employment rights etc. funny thing is in the meantime, my dealer principal thought sh i t was going to hit the fan and so he left straight after my final hearing. Maybe because of how strongly I approached the evidence etc initially he didn't think I would stop pursuing it there and would take it to tribunal. On advice of my rep I left it believing there was nothing that I could do. Then I heard about ACAS and tribunals etc but I'd already left and the time had elapsed. I don't know why it doesn't allow Google reviews for this company so that people can see exactly what they're in for paying £15 a month. He even told me not to stop paying for it. It's a joke. They allowed that workplace to get away with putting staff through so much. One of the other new staff was being bullied to the degree of having random office items thrown at him by the MANAGER whilst he was on phonecalls to customers. They took his lunch out of his drawer in his absence and kicked it around the office until it exploded then the 2 50+ year old managers rushed to clear it all up before he came back in. They mocked his appearance and made constant belittling references about his personal presentation. Honestly a nasty bunch so I had no qualms going though hundreds of sheets of clear evidence. I would ask my manager for things and he would physically ignore me. Like leave me standing there asking for something, not look at me and not respond so I decided to start asking for anything I need via email. He also ignored these which I was able to evidence him leaving requests for mandatory tools to do my job for hours. I would have to follow up and highlight how long I had been waiting for a response. He was also seemingly getting dementia and it was the other colleagues who joked about it first. It all came to a head when he pulled me into his office and told me my probation meeting will be next wed and he won't be keeping me. He's not supposed to tell me that. So I went to HR and asked them do I have a probation hearing arranged for next wed she said "yes, how do you know that?" I said "Richard just told me" she said "right he's not supposed to." There were also rumours he wanted to replace me with a guy who had worked there previously left due to their scandalous behaviour. So there was also planning to push me out in favour of someone else. All because my manager didn't get his own way with me then got jealous when other guys were helping me to learn my job. Everyone could see he had something against me. He even shouted at me over the other guy (new cars sales manager) literally shouting in my review. Way more to it but let's put it this way. Pick another blo ody union!!

Scam What a joke south region slough lara…
What a joke south region slough lara and David I have relied on them to support me for several months I have been left to deal with situations on my own in meetings there is little to no support I could have had a cardboard cutout David out of the two is the better by all means this is not a compliment but the better out of the two worst little to now correspondence in the space of sometimes of weeks somtime months Lara will promise you all sorts of information and
support then will ghost you and disappear
and leave you standing alone don't get me started on unionline we can't help you you're out of time more information out of time more information will let you know Joke nothing will materialise.
I have been with this organisation for over 14 years and at the very time of help shutdown this is a warning save your money this operates as if its a scam... senior support feedback nothing.I could go on and on..what you need to know is how to take it higher you pay your subs.If I could have given a zero I would have 10 times over.
My experience has been horrendous and the very thing it shouldn't do ! Cause you distress ( we're here to help) NOt! Save your money of months and years of paying
BE WARNINED ⚠️ YOUR ON YOUR OWN.!!
DON'T JOIN THE GMB IF YOUR GAY
If I could I would rate this, so called Union, zero stars. I bloody would. It talks about equality ?
I've been the victim of Homophobia in the workplace for just over a year now. I went to, not one, but two Reps for advice how to facilitate a Hate crime complaint in the workplace.
Both Reps refused. One even said " We (GMB) don't touch Hate crimes with a barge pole" !
I cancelled my membership. No surprises.
I did need help in my workplace twice
I did need help in my workplace twice, I have phone them both times to ask for assistance in the meetings but they never did phone me back or answering to my emails which I have been sent them, when I did go to their branch they would not let me in without a appointment which you can not do it because nobody answers to your calls or texts/emails.
Worst Union don't deal with them I had…
Worst Union don't deal with them I had a Sexual Harassment at my home by a representative 2019, verbal abuse and refused to support in work related matters. Have now addressed all cc Karon Monaghan KC a leading barrister investigation 2020 "INSTITUTIONALLY SEXIST" to re-investigate this union 2024 for further abuse towards women. Misogyny of this toxic GMB Union and the contempt of court by false witness statement and breach of court orders. Waiting for full settlement of abuse from 2019 we are now in 2024 shocking Union who donates "MONEY" to the Labour Party and threats of guns on the table and if you go to Tribunal with sexual harassment they have more expensive lawyers and threaten you "GARY SMITH" general secretary will start shoot back. All in the media so this is how the GMB Union conduct themselves. Stay away from this union. They abuse women with sexual harassment.
Does What It Says On The Tin
I have been a member of GMB for over five years. I have always found the offer of advise and assistance to be on hand if and when needed.
I have all of the contacts needed as support mechanism etc etc. I also receive regular email updates and invites to the monthly drop ins.
A majority of the reviews here are from people who hate unions, not actual GMB members.
I cannot understand a statement from one contributor who advises to use a solicitor if and when legal advice is needed as it would be cheaper than the subs to GMB! How could that be. With the average solicitor charging upwards of £100 per hour.
The unions are there to advise and guide and stand up for members. If members aren't happy then leave and go elsewhere. Maybe I'm looking at it to simply.

If I could have rates zero
If I could have rates zero, i would!
What a horrible company this is! The staff are so rude and aggressive! They take your money but don’t actually help!
One woman Sue Scott, Hartlepool is absolutely vile! Avoid and go with ACAS!
If I could I would put zero stars
If I could I would put zero stars. ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE contacted them 3 weeks straight via email and phone they NEVER called back ( only once probably) and I had a lot of issues at work which I needed legal advice and they NEVER helped me. I had to call Acas ( which I didn't even have to pay for LOL) and they gave me all the information I needed and how to proceed. Avoid at all costs don't wasted your money in this organisation, they don't care about helping or assisting you and if you have serious concerns with your job you ll be left hanging. 100% would NEVER EVER EVER recommend them it was the worst experience by far.
I sm giving one star
I sm giving one star, as this seems to be the requirement to do a review, otherwise I would give GMB no stars.
My union rep, Lee Plumber, was absolutely useless. I ended up having to do most of the work myself. During a pre grievance meeting, he failed to take any notes, and I had to recall what happened at the meeting.
Their legal representatives, Union Line, were just as bad. I suffered a traumatic experience at my last job, where I couldn't even attend an interview fora new job and was physically sick. Despite cancelling over 6 interviews in a period of over a year, I was informed by my legalrepresentative, Emily Turner, that I was to blame, as I had continued to work for my employer. I told her that I had a mortgage to pay, but got nor support.
I then made a complaint to Warren Kenny, their branch secretary, only to be told that I should have cancelled my membership if I was not happy.
I do not want anyone else to have to suffer in the way I did. Do not waste your money.
Do nothing even when ask a question…
Do nothing even when ask a question just try to beat round the bush and not give an honest direct awvnser like a hidden agenda. Like they're working with the client but pretending to support you in the strikes
Spend your £15 on something more worthwhile
Have been paying for my membership since a colleague recommended them. This year I went through a restructuring where my job was potentially at risk, I've never been through this process before and had no idea what to expect or what my rights were etc, I've been paying for my membership long enough that I thought I would call them for some advice.
Firstly it was impossible to get a hold of anyone. It took me about 30mins on the website to figure out what number to call, I ended up calling 2 different ones multiple times no one picked up. I left messages..no one called me back. I emailed and messaged through the website..no one got back to me.
What made this worse was that I heard friends of mine that worked for a different company who were going through a similar process and they were in contact regular with their GMB rep. Meanwhile i couldn't even get through to anyone.
Months later I thought what am I wasting £15 a month on? Have been paying it for around 3 years now so that's about £372 I could have saved and spent on something that will actually benefit my life.
To top it all off when I wanted to know how to cancel my membership I rang the same number again and spoke to a really rude lady who confirmed why I wanted to cancel my membership 😅
This is only my personal experience as I know they were helpful for other people but that was not my experience with GMB. The ACAS website is far more useful for any issues you have at work and you can ring them for free advice anytime. Moving forward I will be accessing them for free instead!
Scam company stay away
stay away from this mafia irganisation. They play with your fear. Pay me money if uber blocks your account we will help you. They did nothing. 6 Month later I have not heard anything. My account is blocked unreasonable I have a cctv footage from my car that I was not in fault. And then getting out from the contract us so difficult. Do not waste your money on mafia.
Scam..Avoid GMB union
I wish I had read the reviews before joining the GMB Union. I paid them for two years, and when I needed their support to take my employer to court, they refused to provide a single confirmation of my membership. When the matter reached the legal system, they pretended that the case was referred to a solicitors firm called Unionline Solicitors, another scam with bad reviews. Unionline then wrote back to say I had zero chance of succeeding, which was just a tactic so GMB wouldn't have to pay fees to Unionline to take my matter to court. This left me on my own, without the support I was promised. Save your money for a real solicitor or learn the legal process yourself, but avoid GMB at all costs. They are unreliable and will abandon you when you need them the most.
As a Uber driver who is meant to be…
As a Uber driver who is meant to be employed we don’t get paid holiday pay or sick pay so what’s the point of this union they just let companies like Uber get away with treating workers like rubbish
Save your money
As the Majority have experienced and mentioned, if your looking at trust pilot for peace of mind don’t bother with this shower they will take your money for years and then when you need assistance you’ll get crass comment like “what do you expect us to do! It’s up to you .” As someone else mentioned unison aren’t any better as they refunded my membership as my work issues were too hard for them to take on.
In summary save your money and pay a lawyer and hopefully get a result your looking for.
