My husband recently bought an Infinity from our local dealers and is highly delighted with it.
In order to keep up with him I decided I would like a Pulse and I am collecting it in the next few days.
I have ridden his Infinity and it is a joy with hills a thing of the past. Very clever bike and not much thinking for me to do to decide to buy the Pulse.
I would like to say that our experience with Volt and especially Lyle was a very pleasant one.
In these days of general apathy it was refreshing to have contact with someone who obviously cares about his product and indeed his customers.
Thank you Lyle for your help and advice. You are a Top Man.
I am very much looking forward to my new bike.
I ordered a charger for an electric bike which I assumed would not be a difficult item to purchase.. However, after not receiving the item for 2 weeks I rang Electric Bike Store and they explained payment was never taken due to the order looking 'dodgy'. The charger was supposed to be a gift for my son and I was never contacted via telephone or email that the payment had not been confirmed. All the delivery address, billing information and card information was correct so be wary of this company as they failed to deliver one small item. They failed to apologise for the mistake and offered no form of compensation which I find unsatisfactory.
For years I bored colleagues and friends talking about getting a folding electric bike. As my wife has the car on weekdays and doing a job that takes me around the South West visiting businesses in rural locations I could see how a folding ebike would help bridge the 5-10 mile gap from public transport and deal with hills along the way.
Finding a job at Exeter Uni meant that I could tap into the Cyclescheme and start hunting. I had a look (and test ride) of a few options around the £1000 mark. The Volt Metro kept coming out well in reviews, seemed to be better made when I tested and also had a younger design look than some others.
I've now had the bike for 15 months and have riden over 1500 miles. I had high expectations but they have been surpassed. I love the flexibility it gives me for travelling. I can take it on a branch line or inter city train without worrying if there's a bike space. I can pop it into the boot of even a small car. And when I get it out and ride it makes cycling so enjoyable. I already cycled quite a lot so it's mainly helping me with hills and headwinds but it makes a huge difference. I don't have to think about the topography whether for work or pleasure.
Ok so it's a pretty heavy beast but the only time you lift it is to get it from the platform onto the train or into the boot of a car. It's bigger than other options but that larger wheel (with front suspension and suspension saddle) is much needed and appreciated on country lanes.
It's not the perfect bike. Along the way a few parts have broken. However, first of all you're paying for a mid price bike. Secondly, and more importantly, what you get is first class service. Each time there has been a slight issue the guys in London have been incredibly helpful. This has been especially important as, being 1 hour from nearest Volt dealer, help has often needed to be at distance. And when talking me through repairs over the phone led to me doing more harm and good they performed a brilliant 'pit stop' repair the next time I was passing through London.
I can't stop myself recommending them to others and sure enough it wasn't long before my wife was after an ebike. Interestingly, after initially going for a super Swiss Flyer ebike, she found that for all its sophistication and quality build the riding assistance just wasn't working for her. She had a go on my bike and immediately knew that this was the right option for her dodgy knees. So she now has a Volt Kensington. I never thought I would hear her asking when we can next go for a bike ride. So double thanks to Volt and Electric Bike Store. Not only do I now have a great bike for work but I can enjoy cycling for leisure with my wife. Huge thanks!
After extensive research and reviews I chose to buy the Volt Metro electric bike in Black from the Electric bike store.
There are of course many other makes and models on offer, but none combined the looks, quality and up- market features on the volt bike.
Before making a decision I arranged test drives on several bikes, but the quality of ride, ease of use and sheer pleasure offered by the Metro was never matched. The bike feels solid but light to handle, there are no rattles or noisy gear shifts. The brakes have just the right blend of confidence and feel and the nice features of integrated computer, Velo comfort seat, up-market gears and brake levers makes the bike feel very special.
On the first outing with a fully charged battery I covered over 30 miles of hilly terrain with battery capacity to spare. Not bad considering I am 14 stone and I was not being careful on power usage. The ride also included several top speed dashes up long hills as a test.
The Electric bike store were very knowledgeable and helpful, despite me calling several times for more information, and when I finally made the decision to buy, the bike was despatched the same day to my local dealer. I was up and away the very next day.
My only criticism of the bike is the kilometre only readout on the computer.
Would recommend it to anyone!!

We bought two Volt Metro bikes a couple of months ago having decided our cycling days were almost over - at least on hilly routes. We are both over 70 now. Our Volt bikes have given us a new lease of life - once the ordnance survey map had to be scrutinised to avoid close contours, now we can cope with anything. We have not yet exceeded twenty miles on any trip and so far have not used a single "block" on the battery indicator - so the range of 40+ miles is more than achievable. Cannot fault the bikes - they look good and perform accordingly.
As far as the Electric Bike Store is concerned - they have been excellent, especially Lyle Metcalfe who will go that proverbial extra mile.
Can highly recommend both the Volt Metro and the Electric Bike Store.
Great bike! This is my second Volt Pulse as someone decided to help themselves to my first. I should thank them really as my battery, charger and seat were all in my house so now I have a brand new bike, two batteries, two chargers and two seats.
On a serious note this is a great piece of kit. I've always cycled to work, every day for over 30 years. As I'm not getting any younger I decided to treat myself to a pedal assisted bike. I have two very steep hills to climb on my way home and it's as easy as riding on the flat. Gears solid and never slip, brakes are sharp, adjustable front fork suspension works well as does the seat post suspension. Seat's nice and comfy! Full front and rear mudguards do the job well. Very useful rear luggage rack and bike stand. Nice chunky bar grips. Puncture resistant tyres on very smart rims. The battery slips and locks in place very discreetly and the wiring is well hidden. The motor is nice and quiet and very powerful and kicks in really quickly once you start pedalling. If you want a bit of help getting away at the lights or on an incline, push the throttle as you begin to peddle and within a second or two and a few gear changes you'll be up to speed. The controller is very simple to use and has all the info you could ever want. The lights are very bright and well placed. The whole bike feels very solid and well built. Can't fault it at all. Beats public transport any day!
My first Volt Pulse did over 6000 km in the 18 months I had it with no problems other than one puncture. Even Kevlar lined tyres won't stop a nail.
I ride 5-1/2 miles into the city each day and I can guarantee that whatever the weather (barring snow and ice) and however bad the traffic, I'll be there in 20 minurtes.
Great buy!
I’ve been researching electric bikes for the last 6 months and tried quite a few different brands but the Volt Pulse was by far best. It’s quiet, powerful and very well made. I 100% recommend Volt and the guys at the Electric Bike Store.
I collected my Volt Metro yesterday from their show room near London Bridge. Lyle was very helpful answering all my questions also he did a very good job to get my brand new Volt Metro prepared.
After a long ride to get back home, I can confirm that this bike is a great piece of technology. It's a real pleasure to cycle with or without electric assistance.
If you're thinking of buying an electric bike then forget the other brands, call the Electric Bike Store now and book a test ride!
To be honest, I took my time (few months) to look on internet to see what the electric bike market is and this company is the best because they offer a very good customer service also they have the best range of electric bikes built with the best technologies available.
They may operate from a small site but the Volt Electric bike range sold by the Electric Bike Store is a BIG contender in the electric bike market.
Lyle at the store was extremely helpful and made buying the bike a real pleasure.
The bike itself, a Volt Keningston, has surpassed my expectations and certainly blew my old electric bike out of the park with it's smooth & effortless performance.
Would highly recommend both the bikes and the store to everyone - you don't know what you're missing!
bought a E bike as i had injured my knee have since did some amazing rides on it both on and totaly off road and managed everything we have thrown at them just done 4 days in scotland 286miles one day of rain all day and not a problem getting 63 miles out of one charge with assistance my only critisisum is thet could do with gearing down more had a few snaggs to start with which were all dealt with very swiftly can highly reccomend the volt
So having not cycled for over 10 years I was weary at first getting back on a bike. I waited in until midnight having requested that delivery time. Peirs traveled from London to Manchester to personally deliver my bike, set it up and guide me through its use. PERFECT...
My first ride out was a few miles and it went to quick and so off I went up a hill I couldn't get up even 10 years ago. The bike is so smooth, the motor accelerates well and it's assistance feels like it's just part of the bike. It's such a good quality and we'll built bike. I've now ditched my car and started cycling to work. It's that much fun.
I really want to thank Piers and Lyle at the electric bike store. It's their friendly approach and helpful attitude that drew me initially to ordering a volt bike. I initial emailed many companies and they were not helpful at all, Lyle was available via email at anytime and Piers gave me his mobile number to contact if I had any problems at all... So far I've not needed to call :-)
This company is a pleasure to do business with and once I've paid this bike off I'll be looking at buying a metro for the parents to get about on too :-)
These bikes aren't cheap, but they are top quality and excellent value for money. It's a purchase I will never regret.
I would say that VOLT need to get themselves out on the net, more videos and pictures and specs of their bikes.
If you are thinking of getting an electric bike send them an email or give them a call.... Or better still, if your in London for a city break sort out a test ride.
Seriously wish to thank you guys at The electric bike store and Piers and Lyle especially, I have lost half a stone in the two weeks I've had my bike, I'm more energetic and mobile then I've ever felt.
I hope your company grows and grows and you stick with the same. Customer service ethics you have now, "the customer is king"
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
I turn 51 next month and feel 16 again :-)
My physiotherupist suggested an electric bike as a means of exercise as I suffer from severe bouts of Sciatica which stop me from walking very far. I tried other brands of bike before travelling to London to look at the Volt Burlington. It was love at first sight, I'm usually the sort of person who will buy things on a whim, they sit in the garage and gather dust after first use, and are then sent to the local charity shop, but not this time! I go out on it every weekend travelling in excess of 20 miles a time; I use pedal assist most of the time but after 5 weeks of use only use power 1 on the flat and up to 3 or 4 when going up hills. The great thing about this bike is I just don't have the power in my back to get up hills but can do it with ease using power assist. The basket on the front is fantastic, I take a cool bag with me and fill it up with soft drinks for the journey. If you are thinking about buying an electric bike, I would highly recommend Volt and if you have a bad back, go for the Burlington, you won't regret it.
Whole buying experience from start to finish was excellent. The communication and advice second to none. After sales brillant and they don't disappear after the sale is concluded. Would recommend them to anybody who is considering buying an electric bike or just needed to some honest advice.
I contacted London Electric Bikes in May 2014 to arrange a test ride at their showroom near London Bridge. I dealt with Lyle who was great. I have a standard mountain bike which I ride occasionally in Epping Forest, Essex but I am strictly a weekend-only-on-sunny-days kind of cyclist with none of the gear that most people seem to have. I wanted to cycle in to work (Loughton, Essex to Hackney, London - 10.5 miles) twice a week instead of driving to save some money on petrol and for the exercise.
Having driven the route hundreds of times I knew what it was like for cyclists as I was always passing them and it's a bit hairy. I am 51 years old and in reasonable shape but felt that I needed a bit of help getting up the long hills going out of Loughton and I am not a very confident city cyclist at all. I figured a bit of power would come in handy.
At the show room Lyle explained all the bits of the bike. It looked the business, all matt black. After showing me the throttle and the computer etc we went out into the rain - (typical London) on a busy back street and I had a go around the block. After the initial wobble the motor kicked in at setting 3 out of 5 and you could hear me go "Whoo Hoo!" all around the block. The power surge is bloody marvellous. I bought the bike then and there. A few days later it was delivered to my office and Lyle went over the instructions again.
I put it in my car to test it out over the weekend before venturing into the streets of Hackney. After forgetting how to turn on the motor (long press on the 'M' button on the console) I fired off an email and had to anxiously wait over the weekend for the reply on Monday. I felt like a right 'nana. During the weekend I took it out anyway with the battery in to get the feel of the bike. It is a heavy piece of kit, but in a way that is reassuring as you know that you have paid for something of quality. Despite not having any power the bike handle really well the and hydraulic brakes will easily flip you backside over lady-bumps if you're heavy handed.
After Lyle had emailed me with the answer to turning the power on I went out about town in Loughton and tried the bike on all the hills and then went off-road into the forest. On the road the bike handles well. Good solid comfortable feel. The motor easily demolished all hills and 8 weeks later I still get a thrill when the motor kicks in and you zoom off. the advantages of the motor are very apparent when you come to busy roundabouts or you're at the traffic lights. At full power (setting 5) and in a lower gear you can be just as quick as the guys on the carbon fibre racing velo's. A light touch of the brakes or if you stop pedalling will cut the motor.
In the forest is when the bike shows its true brilliance. after a little practice you can easily switch between power settings for hills and difficult terrain but more often than not you don't use the power that much. The kevlar reinforced tyres handles thorns and brambles with no problems - even though I was convinced that they would get a puncture. I went through some quite deep mud and the tyres aren't true MTB's, they're hybrids so there is some slippage but all is forgiven as the Alpine powers you up the next grassy bank. The Alpine is definitely not designed for jumping or stunting, at 25 kilos the bike's pretty heavy.
One nice feature is the handlebar mounted suspension lock-out switch where you can either turn on the suspension for off-road or lock it rigid for street riding - but after riding the pot-hole riddled streets to London you're better off with the suspension being active.
The gear action is smooth and easy to use - it is situated on the right handlebar.
Gripes? I only have one. I wish it had more than the 9 gears, even another 3 would have made it an exceptional bike. I only say this because on the long, flat stretches you feel that you need 2 more gears to get the Alpine to go faster as all the lycra boys go screaming past you on their super machines.
The battery seems to last for ages. I have ridden back from the office when I'm particularly tired and have had the power setting on 5 and let the bike do most of the work - you can see the watts spiking up to 350+ but when you press the button on the battery it has only gone down by one bar.
I shall finish with what my mates say. When Lyle dropped off the bike at the office two of my colleagues tried the bike and they both went "Whoo Hoo!" Another 7 have tried the Alpine either on the street or off-road, and every single one of them has gone - you guessed it - "Whoo Hoo!" I heartily recommend that you find one of their showrooms and just test one of their electric bikes, there are quite a few models to choose from. They are definitely the future.
I researched electric bikes for about a month before settling on this one, I checked out the SMART bike and the Giant ranch to mention just a couple.
If you think an electric bike is a cop out then think again - when using the PAS mode you still have to keep peddling to get up those hills but you don't get the burn as much and you no longer worrying about the hills when you are thinking about going out for a ride.
I've gone from not bothering to use my bike to using it everyday dependant on weather, everyone can now enjoy riding again.
I covered 15 miles last night and the 5 power lights are still on so you should get what is advertise and get 55 miles from the one charge depending on how much you help the bike out.
great buy and no regrets so far.
These guys were fantastic. First bike was delivered in person by a representative of the firm. It was set up and and explained. Unfortunately, it turned out to be bigger than expected, but rather than quibble and fob us off, they recommended an alternative, took the original bike back, and returned with the new one the next day, no questions asked. Couldn't hope for better customer service, and a great product. Brilliant!
I bought the volt metro with the 16vlt battery just under a year ago, I cycle to work everyday regardless of the weather, its very comfortable and easy to handle. Its a bit heavy after using a standard bike, not so easy to carry up and down escalators due to the addition weight of the battery but this is to be expected, but not prohibitive. I use it for everything and have a couple of bike trailers for taking stuff to the recycling depot and also for shopping. It is a pleasure to ride I am so please with it, that I bough another for my partner. I am a a seasoned cyclist but have welcomed the assistance it has brought, there are know no days when it is just to windy that my journey is too unpleasant to contemplate on a standard bike. Added to which the staff at the store have been exceptionally helpful when contacted. I would recommend this bike to anyone, if your in any doubt , give it a test ride... and I'm sure your'll want one , its well built and looks Fab ... I always get asked about it.
No matter how far I cycle in a day I can never run out of battery!.. I regularly cycle 40 miles and find I only use 2 segments of the 5 segment battery indicator. This is running on level 3 Tour power setting My only complaint would be that I seem to go through brake pads holding it back!! I have had 1 or 2 teething problems with my Volt Pulse however the service from my local dealer and yourselves has been excellent. I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone and would buy a replacement if required in the future.

Could not recommend these guys more.
Bike is super. It gets you everywhere in London, the city has been flattened by this bike.
Battery lasts forever, I have done 1000km and still perfect.
Anything you need done, the guys in London Bridge will sort it out.
Highly recommended, go for this one if you are thinking to get an electric bike.
Cheers
The Volt Alpine is everything I thought it would be and I was so impressed with the Bike and the service from Piers my Husband bought one too.
Retired and living in the Lake District with lots of Hills. The Volt Alpine takes them on with ease.
We can cover greater distances with the Alpine and I have Loved every mile on this Bike.
Superior to any other electric Bike.
