Had a few orders from DR, but regrettably, this will be my last.
I decided after the rib roast at Xmas that wasn't up tomusual standard..would give another try, wish I hadn't bothered
Sirloin steaks purchased previously have been delicious that's why I succumbed and ordered more, but these ones were tough and chewy.
I also purchased other meats which I haven't used, including Ribeye and tenderloin. .Will just have to give them a try, and until then reserve judgement, but I certainly won't be spending another 170 pounds .
I wish now that when realised DR had gone into liquidation, i forgot about company completely.

I won’t be returning.
Disappointing experience
I ordered and received their Easter lunch selection comprising rack of lamb, beef gravy, dauphinois potatoes, parsnips, green vegetables and tiramisu dessert.
Although the meat was absolutely up to the standard I’ve come to expect from them (I’ve had lots of good meat in the past), the rest of the items apart from the potatoes and the gravy were very disappointing. The green vegetables were watery and an unappetising khaki colour (they were cooked from frozen), the parsnips were cardboardy in texture and the tiramisu bore no resemblance to any tiramisu I have ever eaten: I can understand that they would omit any liqueur but there was no coffee or mascarpone flavour either. It was just sponge, cream and chocolate powder with the cream dominating. Edible but not tiramisu. Fortunately we had other deserts and vegetables to accompany the meal so it was not a complete disaster but I regret to say that the green vegetables, the parsnips and the desert were binned.
I emailed Russell’s to complain but received neither acknowledgment of receipt nor reply. Poor customer service and a dreadful experience so I won’t buy in future.

Was about to buy meat at DR in Selfridges when butcher blew his nose on kitchen towel then immediately used the piece to wipe his hands as he was about to cut the meat

Still awaiting updates on refunds for missing items but unsurprisingly customer service seem to be missing as well..
Great value deals
I received my first order from Donald Russel today. Extremely happy with price and delivery. i took advantage of their deals i got 4x 320g entrecoute sirloins, 1.2 kg of dry cured sliced bacon and 1.2kg of lean minced steak for 57 quid including delivery. My supermarket is 48 quid for the equivalent steaks so great value for (what i am assuming) is better quality. check out the deals they have, it's really good value when you compare to other good quality meat, Highly recommended,

We have used Donald Russell meat suppliers who are based in Scotland.
After our latest order has gone missing we have now found out they may be in Administration.
So PLEASE be aware if you are thinking of ordering
Didn't turn up on the day it should…
Didn't turn up on the day it should have so I had nothing to feed 8 people who were turning up for dinner. No communication to tell me this was going to happen. Spent hours on hold trying to speak to someone just to get told it's the delivery companies fault, nothing to do with us. Asked to cancel the order, it turned up 2 days later anyway. Never again.
Order D489084 - £150 order missing.....
I spent £150 purchasing meat from an Easter offer.
- The delivery did not arrive on the day it was scheduled.
- The application to monitor the delivery did not work.
- I spent 2hrs on hold on the phone in a queue of zero waiting to speak to someone.
- No response from my email requesting an update.
Awful customer service (Farmison takeover)
My husband received £125 of Farmison gift vouchers for his birthday, with a purchase date of Jan 2026 and expiry date of Jan 2027.
The company have since been taken over by Donald Russell who will not accept the gift vouchers.
There was no email communication from Farmison or Donald Russell explaining this would happen.
Why were Farmison still selling gift vouchers with a year’s validity if they knew they were about to close down and why are Donald Russell not honouring them?
Awful customer service from both companies and my husband has now lost his birthday gift which the whole family clubbed together to buy.
I have used both companies in the past but I would not use Donald Russell in the future.

Unfrozen delivery
The delivery arrived completely unfrozen and the food will need to be thrown away. In fairness I should say that when DR contacted me 3 days later - due to the Easter Bank holiday they offered a refund straightaway. So I have upped my original rating (1 star) to 3 stars.
Never use again
Delivery should have been on saturday 28 march but received email late friday to state it would be tuesday 31st. On monday 30th requested confirmation of tuesday delivery as i was away rest of week and needed to cancel if this was not the case. Confirmed delivery would be tuesday. Emailed twice on tuesday as no further update received ....emails ignored. Delivery on wed ...my friend had to deal with as i was away. So much stress and hassle. Have had no bother with previous experience but this was terrible and will never use again. I would not recommend using due to this service and lack of customer service.
Simply the BEST
I have just made Donald Russells Easter dinner for two and it was the best food I've ever eaten. the lamb racks were better than any food we have ever eaten (and my father was a butcher).
They have always responded quickly to any query and are amazing with customer care. In this day of "that'll do" Donald Russell goes above and beyond!!
10/10 in every aspect of the business. I will be sharing my amazing experience with all friends and family.
Used this company 4 times before and…
Used this company 4 times before and sorry no more. The delivery is absolutely horrendous, Fed Ex put a time and not once have they been near it. As I write this still waiting for a delivery that was posted Thursday night. Was meant to be between 8.10 and 12.10 today ( Saturday ) now on website saying was expected today. Reckon meat will be unfrozen now. Will just chuck it , pointless ringing to complain as reading reviews you get no joy.

Always loved my monthly box from DR, however the company has been “taken over” since just after Christmas and does it ever show?
Standards have certainly slipped no doubt in the name of more profit , and it’s simply not worth the extra cost .
Come back high street butchers , please!
Falling Standards.
A long time customer, although less frequently now due to a growing level of dissatisfaction, I called to change a delivery date on a new order, probably the last one. I have just spent 43 minutes on hold without getting picked up. This is another symptom of the drop in standards which I fear have been brought about because of a change in ownership. Higher prices, lower quality and nobody answers the phone. Good bye Donald Russell, it has been a great 20 years but there are significantly better option available.
