Not exactly true and transparent as they don't actually compare the 'whole' market. They only compare the businesses that are gathered on their panel.
I obtained a home and contents policy from Suncorp that was $300 less than the lowest 'Compare the Market' quote.
I asked them why this was the case and it was explained to me that Suncorp Insurance was not on their panel that they use to gain quotes from.
Therefore, they aren't really comparing the whole market only their selected ones on their panel. Plus, I also have CTP rego with Suncorp on several vehicles that lowered my premium a further $200 and revealed the Compare the Market quote as ridiculous high (over a $1000 difference between the Suncorp quote and Compare the Market's highest quote)

Massive waste of time, 6 companies is not "The Market"!!
I wanted to compare house and contents insurance. They only came back with two identical quotes for $17000, yes $17k.
BOQ and Honey. Why they are both in there is beyond me as BOQ insurance is handled by Honey so it's not even a comparison. Apart from that they only have 6 insurance companies listed and half of them are owned by the same company.
Got my insurance from NRMA (not even on their list) for 4k.
What a waste of 15min of my time. At least I didn't make the mistake of putting my mobile number in so they can ring me every few days like they have been doing to my son for nearly a year now....
Just avoid them and go to the individual companies websites directly.
Very disappointing
Very disappointing, I got only 3 quotes for car insurance, just a usual common mazda car, nothing special, and only one of those insurers are really know, the other two I never heard of before.
and they insist to agree to their T&Cs which includes pushing their marketing materials!
I closed the webpage of the quotes, so I don't have a quote or transaction ID, and did not get an email or sms confirmation either.
Rubbish company
Unsolicited phone call 5 minutes after looking at insurance. Rude phone guy ignored when I said I wasn't interested and contined rattling off his key points cheat sheet. What a scam. Reported as spam and blocked. Shysters!
Appalling customer service🤮
Within five minutes of me putting into look at health cover I received a phone call whilst at work to which I answered saying that it wasn’t a good time. And the guy at the call centre Jacob goes well. You seem to have time as you’ve picked up the phone, so I will make it quick And just kept talking over me to which I hung up.
Working in customer service and being on the receiving end of something like that I cannot believe that someone could be so inconsiderate of someone’s wishes to request a call at a later time. The whole purpose is to get a quick and easy comparison. If people wanted to call they would call.
STAY AWAY!!
STAY AWAY!!! Once you’ve been to their website, they will call you back straight away and don’t even ask if this is a good time to talk.
Moreover, they will hang up on you rudely and immediately, as soon as they realise that you’re on a good plan and you can’t earn them the commission.

I just wanted to have a comparison of prices between 2 health insurances, and now I got 12 phone calls every single day, Monday to Sunday at any time in the morning, during the day, or late night for over a month.

This company doesn't care about you and only their commissions. They are keen to sign you up but when there are issues good luck getting through their line.
Caused me so much grief being charged by multiple insurance companies because they signed me up to multiple insurances but didn't bother cancelling my older subscriptions properly, leaving me to deal with it myself. And that usually means spending hours and hours on the phone with customer service, validating your account, going through the terms and conditions over and over again.
They don't even have the best deals. It's cheaper going directly to the insurance company.
Also told Jackson who was serving me that I had to hang up as I was in a rush when he called and he convinced me that it would be quick and he would make it an "express" service for me. TOOK 2 HOURS. Told him I would not like to sign up over the call as I'd like to go through the policies. He pretended to agree and ended up signing me up anyway. Said there's a cooling period and I won't get charged and could still change my mind.
That's what I did. I changed my mind and switched companies and got charged for everything.
They are also not good with numbers and advising which is most cost effective taking into account premiums, discounts, cashbacks, employee benefits.
WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE
They don’t cancel insurance as they promised they would in case of change of mind.
I got a call from compare the market while I was trying to find prices on private health insurance in their website. At first I just wanted to find out costs but somehow they sign me in to getting private health, one for me and a different one for my husband. At first I felt it was good because they said having two different ones will save us money. I said I needed to talk to my husband first but the guys assured me in multiple occasions that if after chatting to my husband we decided we didn’t want the insurance to call him and he will cancel everything for me and that I didn’t need to call the insurance companies myself. We had a week to decide if we wanted to keep the insurances or cancel them before the payment came through.
I called him the following day after my husband and I decided not to go for it and he said no problem he will cancel everything. BUT I needed to call the insurance myself to make sure the direct debit wouldn’t come through. It was a bit annoying but I guess I was happy to do that, I thought it wouldn’t be a problem. But when I called them it was an ordeal. Because I had signed up my husband to a different one to myself, I couldn’t cancel on his behalf. I thought that was a bit silly as I signed him up for it and I couldn’t cancel it?!
When he was able to call to cancel it they said the payment was going to come through anyway and later on they will return the money. What?! Very disappointed with how compare the market didn’t do what they said they were going to do, they just want people to sign up and pay even when someone doesn’t want that!

Very dishonest
If you are trying to find a good private health insurance do not use compare the market they are very pushy and just want to sign people up to get a commission they are dishonest and not truthful with what they say or do be careful when dealing with them as they don’t take no for an answer and they will say anything to try and get you to sign up. I was called multiple times and pushed into sign up with ahm private health, I told compare the market I wanted to think about it they would not take that as an answer. They told me I could think about it and I would not get charged till the following week if I was to sign up now so I decided to sign up to get the ball running the following day I was charged witch is absolutely unacceptable when I was told I wouldn’t get charged till next week, but there was more to the story ahm had a promotion at the time for 8 weeks free if you signed up with them that was the main reason I signed up with ahm when talking to jerome from compare the market he explained that I would get any promotions ahm had going even if I signed up through compare the market witch wasn’t the case at all after signing up I realised I wasn’t eligible for the promotion because I didn’t sign up directly through ahm so I decided to call back compare the market to complain and they pretty much rejected my complaint and told me to call ahm because it’s there problem. The next day I decided to cancel the insurance as I felt as if I was conned into signing up to ahm by jerome from compare the market with all these promises and promotions witch wasn’t given to me if you are looking for anything I WARN YOU DO NOT USE COMPARE THE MARKET they aren’t there to help you all they want is there commission and they will say or do anything to get it. Rushed operator, listen to the call
I spoke to Vivian the other day about my health insurance, extras policy. She raced through the call speaking very quickly, hard to keep up. I applied for a job hear recently and was told how important it was to stick to the " script" which Vivian didn't. I had a copy of the script in front of me as I had recently applied for a role. Knocked back as I didn't stick to the script as was not able to access the full content on my phone. I advised Steven the person that interviewed me on the day that I was only able to access half the script,sent a text to him and he couldn't be bothered to reply via phone just a text. I was shown through the call centre on the day of my interview and was shown the stats board about how much commission the agent's were earning. These people are getting up to 10k a month as a high performer so it is no suprise that Vivian raced through our call to secure that extra sale for her commission. Don't be fooled,you will get better service by doing the hard yards yourself and calling each company personally knowing you are not just a number to add to the agent's commission. They have a script to overcome a guinuine objection I'd you say you are busy as sometimes we are when somone calls us but they will push to make you move forward to discuss a policy and get you to sign. If you do and you cancell I'm the cooling off person of 30 days, the agent probably still gets their commission. I contacted Bupa to cancel my policy and provided feedback about compare the market so they know a quick sale without delving into ones expenditure in a year on what they currently outlay as to what they would spend on a policy and the representative said she was sorry about my experience with CTM and that is not what they expect from people that represent them. Beware people it's all about those big commissions. They don't care about you, just want the sale!!

I wish I had never used this website. Since I did I receive spam emails every day - around 40. Every time I open my emails I spend ages marking all the emails as spam, but they always change the address so they keep on coming, it's a nightmare.

Tried to push me to give medical history despite saying no
Used CTM to get a quick idea of what health insurance costs are. Got called immediately after submitting contact number to get a quote online. Person over the phone told me the call is recorded and asked for my medical history for an accurate quote. I told the person that I am not comfortable with sharing medical history with this company and did not want an accurate quote. Then tried to push me two more times to give them my medical history despite me saying no.
Be careful who you provide medical history to.
You love getting unsolicited calls?
If you are using an online comparison site. It's generally because you want to refine the process and book insurance online with no hassle.
This is not what happens with CTM. Here prepare to receive 3 or 4 online uncompetitive prices.
Then wait for the tsunami of phone calls as they sell your information to insurance companies. Expect at least 20 calls a day. Well yes after it's calmed down a bit. Until you reach the point you have to block all incoming numbers.
Don't give this site your info. You will regret it.
