AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

I've only given these cowboys 1 star because I can't give zero.

Sold me a faulty car. Car was delivered to me. Turned on the ignition for the very first time, and the car was literally rattling! I sent them a video, and they miraculously diagnosed a faulty flywheel, how they would know that over a 5 second video is genius.

I drove the car the next day, dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. Power steering, ABS, traction control, electric handbrake to name a few!

I notified century motors I didn't want this faulty car. They refused to collect it, telling me it was my responsibility to return it. Even though it wasn't safe to be driven.

After THREE WEEKS, they finally collected the vehicle. I was then told they were refusing the return of the car on the basis that they "couldn't replicate the faults". My finance company sent out an independent engineer. The report from the independent engineer highlighted that there was in fact a fault with the flywheel AND clutch. They also reported problems with the battery and alternator. I have the report to prove this. The fact it was proven to be the flywheel causing the sound that they diagnosed over a video proves that they knew the car had this issue at point of sale.

The cowboys were given 14 days to return my deposit of £3,000. And did they return it? No. No they didn't. I am still waiting.

The car was delivered to me on Friday 17 May. It is now Thursday 1 August. Eleven weeks since the FAULTY car was delivered, and they STILL refuse to pay me my deposit back. Bearing in mind the dodgy car is now back on their website for sale!

There was a large dent on the car, which they didn't tell me about, nor was it mentioned on their advert for the car.

They did a fresh MOT. The car was given four advisories, for all four tyres. They didn't tell me about this nor did they give me any paperwork to let me know this work needed to be carried out.

They didn't send off the logbook. So when I notified the DVLA I no longer had the car, I had to first inform them that I actually did have it in the first place.

I've honestly never known anything like it.

Avoid at all costs. Conmen at their finest!

Would not recommend

I purchased a misubishi outlander for £12k in November 2023 and have had nothing but problems ever since. I wish I’d read other reviews prior to purchasing as I definitely wouldn’t have gone ahead if I had. I understand that purchasing a used car comes with risks but paying 12k for a car that had undergone an MOT, service and RAC check prior to purchase, I wasn’t expecting so many or so soon.

When we arrived to view the vehicle (we’d rang and said when we would be there) it had no fuel it whatsoever so immediately got taken away whilst we waited around. First red flag looking back.

As my car had been written off we were in a rush to buy a new one for work etc. After purchasing the outlander we got home and realised that there was no stamp in the service history book to show it had had a recent service so we brought the book back the next day and got it stamped however the date was put 15/5/23 even though it had apparently had a service in November. I rang to enquire and was told by Simon that they had written the date incorrectly so I asked for proof of service with date which I never received.

Less than 36 hours after I had purchased the vehicle, I was driving in -5 conditions when the following lights came on:

- 4wd service light
- ASC service light
- Engine management light

The car lost power and went into limp mode, requiring me to pull over and restart the car, all of which concerned me given that I wasn’t initially in a place I could safely pull over and also the ASC system wasn’t working in such conditions and I’d not even had the car 2 days at this point.

We got back in contact and were asked to bring the car in to be looked at that day (1 hour journey when it was unsafe to drive) which we did and were told that there was too much oil in the engine and that the
air intake filter sensor was faulty and needed replacing. I understand that the oil was drained and replaced and the air intake filter sensor part was ordered but I still don’t understand why either of these issues would cause the 4wd and ASC service light to come on.

It took over 2 weeks of us ringing up most days for updates on the part and receiving a different excuse each time as to why they still hadn’t got the part. I’d had the car 3 weeks and had been able to safely use it for 1 day.

The day we drove the vehicle home the tyre pressure light came on, we pumped the tire back up which turned out to be a slow puncture. We raised all issues within days of purchasing the car but we’re just getting ignored and excuses we’re being made.

I emailed century motors to complain about the numerous issues and then got a call from Simon advising us to contact RAC to get the faults resolved through the warranty that we’d paid extra for as they would be quicker (even though Simon had assured us that we wouldn’t need it). After contacting numerous garages they didn’t want anything to do with RAC warranty so this wasn’t an option anyway!

We then got a call the same day to say the part had in fact arrived so another 1 hour journey in a faulty car where they replaced the part but couldn’t do the tyre the same day so would have to go back another day for this. We asked if we could get it changed locally but it had to be done at a garage of their choice.

To no surprise we had the same issue again 2 months later with the lights coming on and car going into limp mode and along with smelling of burning. A trip to Mitsubishi to find out what was actually going on and after yet another oil change as too much diesel in the oil, pipe into manifold was blocked along with dpf.

So far multiple trips to garages, 3 oil changes and ongoing various faults, the car has cost me over £1k in 5 months of owning it.

Changed part-ex valuation on handover day - refused to refund £1,000 deposit.

A car was chosen advertised on Autotrader, stocked at Century Motors Sheffield. An old car was offered in in part-exchange. The part-ex car was assessed by Century while their car was taken on a test drive. The part-ex was 10 years old with about 90k miles on the clock. It had a full service history and a 3 month old MOT. All service details were provided. The last service had been a few weeks earlier. Company staff at all stages have refused to reveal their full names, they think this is something to do with the data protection act.

While their car was driven and inspected, the part-ex car was left with keys and documents for examination by Reece. On the basis of these evaluations, a part exchange price was accepted for the car. The ‘new’ car needed preparation and was to be ready in 7 days. A £1,000 deposit was left to secure the deal on the basis of agreed prices. Reece clarified the deal was conditional on the part-ex car being delivered in the same state a week later. He noted they often found things like slipping clutches when cars were offered in part exchange. They were offered the opportunity to do any inspection of the part-ex car that they wished before we left.

A week later the purchase was handled by Simon who decided that there were a number of issues with the part-ex they had not discovered the previous week, such as a problem with the clutch. This had not been detected by the car’s driver or the mechanics who had serviced it a few weeks earlier. Simon said there were other issues such as items highlighted as advisory on the previous service and MOT that we had been told were not in need of immediate attention. Information on advisories had been available to Reece at Century Motors a week earlier on the service documents he had looked at. Simon said the issues would take about £900 to remedy but they would accept the car with a reduced part-ex by £500 (about 25%).

They were told that if they were unhappy to honour their contract, they should refund the deposit and void the deal. Simon refused to return the deposit. By failing to assess the car properly on the first visit and yet apparently entering into a contract and then failing to void the contract in a fair way Century forced the sale on less favourable terms. At best this company’s approach to part exchanging cars is lazy….

STAY AWAY FROM THESE SCAMMERS

The car we bought was returned to the garage for several issues within weeks of purchasing, was returned due to a small oil leak, turns out it was the head gasket and now its sat on the drive after driving 100ish miles mainly back and forth to their garage, my daughters first car and no surprises Century are not interested. Have taken it to my usual garage who has assured me this problem isnt a recent one, now im stuck trying to find a garage that can fix the car ( would use my regular one but he doesnt have the facilities to deal with a timing chain rather than belt) Wish I had read these reviews first.
The car cost £1650 to fix with a trustworthy garage, again Century did not want to know.
They put it through the mot when we collected, it failed on emissions 3 days prior to them passing it. No surprises that this year its failed again on emissions....STAY AWAY FROM THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY!!!!

Avoid this deceptive dealership

I urge everyone to avoid this deceptive dealership. 3 breakdowns in the space of 6 weeks due to a scam warranty service where clutch cylinder parts were not replaced despite being assured they were (see evidence from the AA below). This scam and repeated delays cost me >£400 and almost caused a motorway crash. In addition to these clutch issues, air-con was not working when purchased. Staff member Jake promised a repair on condition of sale, but this was not done. In return they provided an RAC warranty to enable me to get the air-con fixed externally, but I now discover air-con is not covered by RAC. Deception and incompetence from start to finish and all emails have gone completely unanswered. I am taking my case to the Trading Standards Office but I hope that others have the sense to avoid this unpleasant situation.

Good Afternoon Tom,
To say i am disappointed about this review is an understatement!
To be factful we have had your car into our garage on 3 separate occasions for a clutch issue, however on all 3 occasions your car was driving with no symptoms whatsoever.
We replaced the gear lever clip on the 1st attempt - 80 miles road test - all ok.
We replaced your 3 piece clutch system - road tested 60 miles - all ok
We replaced your master cylinder - road tested - all ok.
Please note that on all 3 occasions your car had no symptoms of any issue whatsoever and after replacing these parts - drove the same.
You have had over £1000 worth of work carried out under your 'Scam Warranty' , all carrying a 12 month warranty on parts fitted. You have invoices for the work carried out!
As for the Air conditioning - we simply do not cover Air Con.
We have had no contact from you since you collected your car and thanked me for our help.

Make sure to check the cars you buy!

Bought a car for 10,750 (my first car), wasn’t really explained anything with warranties etc and extended warranties (they only give 30 days, 1000 milage since I didn’t ask) so make sure to ask, used the car for only 15 days for the car battery to be inadequate and my car wouldn’t start anymore, this means I was clearly sold a faulty battery in the car because I’ve now had to go to the garage to get the battery replaced and it costed me £218, the reason I couldn’t take it back for warranty was because they said the battery is a general maintenance and searching it up it is considered ‘wear and tear’. However how is it my fault when the garage I go to replace my battery clearly goes the battery was already done for! 15 days, imagine buying a car for that much asking if there is any problems and then reassuring you for this to happen after only 15 days. So becareful when buying a car and to make sure to check the warranties.

Good Afternoon,
I am sorry that you feel this way about your new car. Please understand that although the car maybe new to you, it is pre owned. The car battery is something that not only do we not cover but neither does any garage or warranty company in the land. Please give me call to discuss this review and see if we can work something out together?

Buyer Beware!

Having bought a car for nearly £12,000 after being informed that it had a ‘Full Service history’ which was backed up by their advert on Autotrader, they were unable to produce this document. Eventually after months of phone calls, a rather unofficial looking service manual was produced which showed that the vehicle did not have a ‘Full Service history’. A request was made for financial recompense with regards to this misinformation, but was not forthcoming. They denied that they ever advertised the vehicle with such a description. A resolution was found and a sum of money was agreed to settle the ‘error’. Getting this resolution took about 11 months.
So, do not accept anything that they tell you until you see actual evidence as to the claim.
Caveat emptor.

WORNING!!

WORNING!!! for those that will find their long searched car in this amateurs yard an advice. WALK AWAY!! This is my experience with these so called dealers up to now , hope someone will learn something from this:
I viewed a car I was searching for long time that was advertised at having '' full main dealer service history'', and I like it so much that I did not walk away when I've seen the reviews on autotrader (at that time I did not looked on trust pilot - my bad). The car was just about over 5 years old and I thought I struck a deal. A car with full dealers history. So to any of us full service history means that all consumables was replaced according to the manufacturer time scale like oil , coolant , rib belt , timing belt , etc. So I asked the sales man what it is covered under their 30 days warranty and I was told ''anything apart wear an tear''. Fine by me as is normal but soon I will going to find out is a lie , one among many. As disks and front pads was in bad shape he agreed to change them before collection and put a new mot as the car was almost out of mot. Fast forward to the collection day I asked to see the documents of the car before I paid the balance and I noticed that the car was missing the last service stamp , a very important one as the car needed to have a timing belt replacement (over 5 year old), and oil replacement (had about 10000 miles from the last service). I asked the sales man if he has any evidence of the timing belt being replaced that maybe was not in the service booklet. He called what he said was the last service provider - the main dealer - and after a quick conversation he lied to my face that it has the timing belt done. As I was going to find out later , when I found the last service detailed report in the documents pack , same document pack that was in the dealers possession before I bought the car , where the timing was not replaced as the sales man lied. I also called the main dealer to confirm and yes , timing belt was not changed. They are so amateurs that they also confirmed in writing that sales man lied to be after the phone call
What it followed was a complaint done in writing , emails back and forth about the elefant in the room : car was mis sold and not as described as it had partial service history , and not full service history. I did made them an offer : I pay for the timing belt to be fitted and they pay me back , but no they counter offer : they will do it free , but without mentioning anything about the manufacturer of the timing kit , receipts for the job or warranty. So I counter them : they can fit it only if they provide with standard warranty 1 year/10000 miles , receipts for parts as proof they fitted genuine parts and not chinese parts , and receipt for fitting. And provide with written acceptance of set conditions. But they did not bothered to reply for a hole day. As I started to lose my patience , I searched them and found out what customers was saying about their services and failed repairs , some for incorrectly fitted timing belts. As I did not had any reply from them from 10 am at 6 pm I decided to reject the car on the grounds of mis sold goods/goods not as described as I did not accepted any offer of repair . I only counter offered them with my terms and conditions. They denied my rejection so now motor ombudsman , trading standards and my bank will want to talk with them. Why my bank? because part was paid by credit card so to be covered under credit consumer act 1974 in case of situations just like this. SO NEVER PAY ALL CASH/BANK TRASFER. PAY THE RESERVATION FEE BY CREDIT CARD SO YOU CAN BE COVERED IN CA CASE LIKE THIS.
Their warranty of 30 days DOES NOT COVER AIR CONDITIONED SISTEM AT ALL. I QUOTE ,, AIR CONDITIONED IS NOT ADVERTISED OR COVERED AND MUST DEEMED NOT WORKING AT THE POINT OF SALE'' But what happen with will cover all apart wear and tear?? more lies. Is the air con system a wear and tear item??
Also in this case the warranty does not cover engine faults if there is not a proof for replacement of the timing belt in the set up schedule by the manufacturer. As they mis sold me a car with timing belt passed the schedule warranty for engine is void.
Same case with the extended warranty from RAC , no engine warranty without proof of timing belt maintenance.
And on top of that they still did not transferred the car on my name after 5 days (they can do it online is instant), and the extended warranty is nowhere to be found by the supplier. So will have to see if they really did it or just took the money.
And I have solid evidence about all I said.
My advice : If after all you like a car , and is advertised as having any sort of service history ask for the service book and call the service providers yourself to find the reality. If you can not get in touch walk away. With warranties , make sure cam belt was changed at the schedule set up my manufacturer or you will have no warranty for the engine.

I think the easiest thing here is to post our response to your emails from last week,
''Dear Mr Buiciuc,
We are sorry that you feel you have been mis-sold your car, it was certainly not our intention. We have been trading on this site since 1958 and are here to make friends not enemies, the length and content of your email is unnecessary and a simple phone call would have sorted this problem out.
However, to begin with your car was first registered on the 5/3/2018 and not the 1/1/2018 as you have suggested, therefore your car is not yet 5 years old so strictly speaking not yet due its timing belt.
Reece did make a call to the garage that last serviced your car and was told that the belt had been changed, the error here lies with the garage as in actual fact it was the auxiliary belt that was changed and not the timing belt. We did not try to misinform you in any way.
You will be aware that at point of sale and at your request we changed the front discs and pads, if the timing belt was an important issue for you, it would have been better for you to discuss it then rather than yesterday at collection. Had you discussed the timing belt and discs & pads at point of sale we would have offered you one or the other but not both free of charge.
Taking all things into consideration, as a gesture of goodwill we will service your car and supply and fit a timing belt kit all free of charge. All receipts will be provided and your book will be stamped.
Please make contact with us and we will book your car in our workshop for the necessary work to be carried out.
In order that we remain professional and maintain written confirmation all further correspondence should be by email.
Kind Regards,
As you can see you have been offered a free and fair solution to your problems. Please feel free to call me if you would like this work carried out.
Kind Regards
Ryan

To be honest I wouldn’t even give them…

To be honest I wouldn’t even give them 1 star!!! They are a joke! My daughter bought her lovely little Fiat 500 from them two weeks into November and when purchasing the car it was based on the chip in the windscreen being sorted, the flat tyre being sorted, the replacement of the outside of the key that was missing, a really good clean inside and out and the tracking being looked at.
I can tell you now that all they did was blow the tyre up and they had to collect it from me a couple of days later and take it back to sort it out. The mirror function button fell through the door and they fixed that which was good, but the inside of the door has not been put on properly and low and behold the chip on the windscreen that the guy was supposed to be coming to sort for the last 2 and a half months has never arrived LOL!!
It’s clear from the way it drives the tracking was never been looked at and like other buyers the outside of the key that was “on order” has also never arrived either! It’s hilarious!!
Last week the driver door when pressed to unlock either automatically or with the key in the door won’t open at all. I called Jake and all I had from him was, you’re out of your warranty!!!! There was no offer of help, or they would take a look at it. I asked Jake about the chip in the windscreen AGAIN!! And he said…… wait for it…. “I’ll ring you on Monday!” I bet you can guess this never happened either!!
They are a bunch on con artists and the service is appalling! We will definitely learn for next time and will speak to anyone looking for a car for yourself or your child to stay well clear!!!! For a supposed reputable, trustworthy company, with apparently fantastic service you should be ashamed of yourselves!!

Picked my car up on Saturday (silver…

Picked my car up on Saturday (silver Nissan Qashqai) 14th January 2023 minus the headrests which they said are on order, minus even one mile of fuel in the tank, minus a clean MOT which they said they’d sort. Never got a chance to wait for the headrests or clean MOT as the car broke down on the 17th of January 2023. Called them and they said to use RAC warranty I paid for even though I thought I got a month with them. RAC couldn’t fix it as there’s multiple errors with the DPF. This all started at 10am and by 4pm I found that I was stranded an hour and a half from home. I wasn’t home until 9pm. Can I add that the car was driven minimally between the 14th and it breaking down on the 17th. It was my first longer journey on this date. You expect a £7000 car to be able to do more than 60 miles…

These sellers literally have zero customer service. Contacted century to say I wanted to return the car for my money back. Eventually they said they would refund the car but not the recovery to their garage even though them selling me a car with engine faults is not my fault.

I kept being told someone would contact me but it was me and my partner that had to keep contacting them. I was refunded for the car and warranty I paid for but I lost out on a months worth of car tax for 3 days use and it cost me £140 to have the car towed back to them. I’d obviously filled the car up with fuel too. Therefore I was left quite significantly out of pocket.

I would strongly advise you to use a garage elsewhere.

Dear Amy,
We are sorry that you have had an issue with your car just 60 miles after collecting. Having since looked at the car it was just a DPF Sensor that had failed. We do try to ensure that all our cars leave us in good working order, and we personally drive our cars some distance before offering them for sale, unfortunately sometimes they can develop a fault without prior warning. We suggested you use your RAC warranty so you could have any repairs necessary carried out closer to home - this would have meant that you would have been back on the road the very next day. You requested a full refund which due to the circumstances we processed the next day without question.
Road tax is a government issue - you pay them direct, not ourselves.
Again i am sorry you feel the need to leave negative feedback - All these cost could have been avoided if you used the warranty and replaced the sensor.
