Established back in 1934 and winners of Pet Retailer of the year we pride ourselves on our service and extensive product range. I ordered pet food from this company on…

**** UPDATE REGARDING RESPONSE TO THE BUSINESS.....I DID NOT USE INAPPROPRIATE OR FOUL LANGUAGE, THIS IS COMPLETELY UNTRUE. I AM EXSTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE WORDING OF THIS REPLY AND HOW THEY HAVE CHOSEN TO DEAL WITH IT, WHEN THEY SHOULD BE TAKING ISSUE WITH THEIR STAFF****

I ordered pet food from this company on the 15/04/26 over the phone and spoke to a young girl, she told me it would come the next day. It got to late afternoon and I had a feeling it wasn't going to arrive so I rang the Hove branch to find out what was happening. A young man answered the phone and I told him the problem, he went away checked rang me back and told me the girl had ordered the wrong food when it arrived to send it back, I told him there is no way I am going to the post office carrying that as I don't drive, so he said he would arrange for it to be collected and send out the correct food today. I said don't bother I will not be ordering anything further from them and expressed how upset and angry I was about what happened, and asked to speak to a manager which I couldn't do, manager is supposed to be ringing me we will see if that happens but I wont hold my breath. I hadn't finished talking when he put the phone down on me, so rude!!. What is wrong with people today there is too many mistakes by companies when you order things, if the staff employed can't be bothered to do their job properly why don't they sack them. This is damaging the companies business when things like this happens causing customers to go elsewhere, but they don't seem to care about that or the bad customer service, something has to be done about it in this country as it happens time and time again. I have ordered from these people before and always had good service apart from this stupid girl, but it has put me off ordering again. I notice the company do not reply to negative reviews on here which is also not good and shows they don't care.

We are genuinely sorry that your experience did not go as expected on this occasion. As you mentioned, you have ordered from us before and received good service, which is something we take great pride in. We have built a long-standing reputation for going above and beyond for our customers, and we will always stand by that.

On this occasion, a genuine mistake was made when the incorrect item was ordered. As soon as this was identified, our team apologised and offered a full solution immediately – including a free collection of the incorrect item from your home and a 24-hour expedited replacement of the correct food. We did everything we reasonably could to put things right as quickly and conveniently as possible for you.

However, we do feel it is important to address the manner in which our team were spoken to. We are a small, family-run business and we care deeply about our staff. The young lady you initially spoke with is a valued member of our team, and English is not her first language. Whilst she made a mistake – as anyone can – the level of aggression and language directed towards our team during the follow-up call was not warranted.

We always aim to treat our customers with kindness, patience and understanding, and we expect that same level of respect in return. Our team are here to help, and they should be able to do so without being shouted at.

In relation to your comment about reviews, we do respond to both positive and negative feedback. As a small independent business, there can occasionally be a slight delay while we balance customer service, packing orders, and running the shop day-to-day – but we do care, and we do take feedback seriously.

We care a great deal about both our customers and our team, and we always try to handle things with kindness. We just ask for that same approach in return.

Really poor service from this company

Really poor service. I placed an order for prescription medication for my elderly dog on 10th April. Paid for priority delivery. The medication was shown as in stock on the website.

Contacted the company by phone on 13th and was told medication was due to be delivered to them that day and would be posted that evening.

Still no shipment notification on 14th so I emailed the company as I was at work and couldn’t call them. No reply to my email but a shipment email was sent to me at 14.34 hours.

Bearing in mind I paid extra for priority delivery, this is not due to be delivered until tomorrow (16th).

My dog will have been without the medication she needs for 3 days now.

If an item isn’t in stock this should either be shown on their website so it can be ordered elsewhere or at least communicated to the customer straight away so they can try and make alternative arrangements.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, and I am truly sorry for the experience you’ve had here.

I completely understand how important this medication is, especially for an elderly dog, and I’m very sorry that this has caused a gap in what your dog needs. That’s understandably worrying, and it’s not the level of service we aim to provide.

You’re absolutely right – if an item isn’t physically on the shelf and ready to go, it should either be clearly shown on the website or communicated to you straight away. On this occasion, we fell short of that, and I’m very sorry.

From what you’ve described, there were delays on our side in receiving the stock, and although we did update you by phone, we didn’t follow that through as clearly or as promptly as we should have – particularly when you then took the time to email us. You should never feel like you’re chasing us, especially when it relates to something so important.

We also completely understand your point regarding priority delivery. While this service applies from the point of dispatch, in this case the delay before dispatch meant it didn’t feel “priority” at all, and that’s something we need to take responsibility for.

I would really like the opportunity to put this right for you. If you’re happy to, please could you contact us directly at customerservice@acoombs.co.uk with your order details? I will personally look into this for you, make sure everything has been resolved properly.

Absolutely brilliant! I used to buy my cat's food from the Brighton shop but then discovered that they deliver. I've now been ordering online for a couple of years and the service is fantastic - if it's not the same day then it's definitely the day after - and it's always delivered with a smile

Amazing :)

I’ve been buying from here from my cat and dogs for a little while, and honestly they are amazing. Natasha always goes above and beyond for me whenever I have a question about something or a problem etc, the prices are great and good range of products. I love buying the Zealandia wet food for my kitty and doggies :)

Excellent Small Business

Found A Coombs Pet Centre online while searching for ear powder recommended for soon to arrive puppy. Order was placed on Sunday, items dispatched on Monday, and package arrived on Wednesday. Items have not been used yet but no issues with placing or receiving order.

My Go‑To Pet Shop

This is my local pet store, and I both shop in person and order online regularly. I’ve never had a single problem. The team is helpful, the products are always in good condition, and deliveries arrive quickly. It’s a reliable, friendly shop, and I’m always happy to buy from them.

Some Stock Issues but 5* Service

I have used Coombs several times as i like to support small independent businesses. I live in Essex.
I have experienced some stock issues with orders already placed, which hopefully Coombs are trying to improve, so their stock levels are updated in real time.
However, their customer service during these issues has been 5*
Natasha has gone above and beyond in her service and resolution. I really appreciate the help to get some complimentary food to me asap that was urgently needed, plus her general help and attentiveness with getting my order to me as soon as stock was replenished. I will definitely continue using Coombs for pet supplies.

Had a problem with buying some meds and was contracted via Whatap to resolve it. I was resolved in real time and I was able to attach documents.

Great service and super fast delivery

I’ve been buying raw frozen food for my cat from A Coombs Pet Centre for quite a while now, and they’ve been fantastic. The service is always friendly and helpful, and it’s lovely to deal with a genuinely local independent shop that clearly cares about its customers and their pets. Their delivery service is also brilliant. Fast, reliable, and free, which makes ordering frozen food really easy. Would defintely recommend buying from here.
I ordered on a sunday evening and it got delivered tuesday AM on standard delivery.
You're kept up to date through the whole journey.
They even stock single cans of dog food that most other retailers only sell in cases so when im having to see if my fussy dog who has recently been diagnosed with IBD will give the food the time of day, a single can is much more beneficial for me.
I also LOVED the little hand written note from the packer, Natasha. What a sweet little gesture. Probably took them 5 seconds but things like that make a big difference to me!

Best pet shop in Brighton and Hove

Have been coming here for a few years now and I wouldn't shop anywhere else for my cats needs. Genuinely friendly staff with a wealth of knowledge and passionate about all things pets. Very down to earth and excellent products with price ranges to suit everyone. I purchase the monthly food subscription and it saves me money. I always enjoy a visit to the shop in Brighton and always leave smiling. Incredibly rare these days!

I ordered it and it was delivered free of charge promptly also kept informed of the delivery time.
