Button-down shirt sizes are very undersized and not sized consistently (BTW - I'm tired of the "we don't vanity size" BS - my tailor agrees). Couple the poor sizing with very long wait times and "ret... Leggi di più

A few things. I do like the products I purchased. Numerous knitwear and their 1969 jeans. Gustin was also extremely responsive when they accidentally sent me the wrong batch of shirts. They made it... Leggi di più

Pants sizes and quality are a total crap shoot, of which I am at a 10% success rate. Skip this and go with a name you trust. For this price, not worth the wait, the inevitable item not fitting AND company just will not do returns.
I've been a Gustin customer since 2016 and have had a wonderful experience with their products, overall. On the few occasions there have been problems the company has responded right away to make things right. You get a lot more for your money with Gustin than you do with most other brands like Taylor Stitch which manufacture a lot of their clothing overseas. The only downside to the Gustin business model is the wait time. For new campaigns it can be anywhere from a month to three months from the time of purchase to delivery but this is one reason the items are so much less expensive. For me, the wait time only allows the anticipation to build. In short, Gustin offers phenomenal quality, American made manufacturing if you have the patience to wait.
Received the jeans and they have an imperfection (white thread sticking out) right on the thigh. Not to mention they need to be tailored once you get them. Jeans are over $100 and you can’t offer various inseam sizes? What a joke.
I ordered two items in March and one shipped right away and was fine. The other didn’t ship until late June so three months later and was literally four inches too small (not even close to buttoning). Despite letting their support know this and sending a picture to show how off the sizing was, apparently it’s my fault their sizing makes no sense because I didn’t read their “fit guide” (who the hell does, I’ve never been below a 30 or above 32, this 31 wasn’t even close to fitting) and after several back and forths they refused to refund it and insisted I pay for the shipping return just to get store credit, no refund. Obviously will never buy anything from them again, it’s the worst clothes purchase experience I’ve ever had. I used to live in SF and love it, and I am embarrassed for the city that they are based there.
By modern standards this company is awful to deal with. When you’re lucky enough to get an item correct it’s pretty nice but the list of negatives is extensive.
First is the sizing issues. I’m guessing the owner in a small man and the sizing standards are some inner revenge agains normal size people. I’m 6’1” at 218 lbs. In normal brands I wear L sometimes XL. In gustin I’m always XXL and sometimes can not button my shirt. Anyone larger than me is simply out of luck. They don’t make clothing for large people. It not like the Asian companies where you can just order 5xl.
For jeans there is a second hurdle that must be challenged. The normal denim that jeans are made of stretches out over time. That means they should be a little snug at first. Same thing with leather shoes and leather belts.
With Gustin they offer lots of jeans in really tight fabrics. This means they will not have any give whatsoever. My true waist is 36”. That means in Levi’s I buy 34. In gustin I usually wear a 35 if the pants behave like normal denim. I have some Gustin 34” that with time fit me well. In other fabrics I need 37” or even 38”. The inconsistency is primarily in how the fabrics behave. Most manufacturers will take this into considerations. Gustin does occasionally suggest to go up a size but not nearly enough. I would say the number of buyers who don’t end up with small/tight clothing is probably close to zero. Historically they refused to accept returns. They now do if you put up a strong argument. Returns are far from easy, and the cost for shipping both ways is on you.
This attitude of “I’ll show all the big people” has kept this company from getting off the ground. I’m sure the four people who run the place make an income and the owner may actually make a good income. Once the owner want to retire the company will be worth absolutely nothing. The name is a liability because of their accumulated hatred and bad reviews. Had they paid attention and maintained even a modest level of goodwill the owner could have pitched the company to investors for $50 million. Instead they are still sitting wrapping clothing by hand and constantly dealing with complaints.
It’s a free world. If you want to start a retail company they you should recognize who is paying you. If you don’t like customer service then consider selling wholesale and let others take care of it for you.
Their fabric selection can at times be brilliant. The experience will never be great.
Adding an option with a higher waist would not hurt either considering it’s now 2024.
Simply eliminating the largest 15% of the population seems just rude.
This company reeks of short man syndrome
Large sized shirt was sent with small size dimensions according to their published measurements. Company refused responsibility and denied refund or return, saying it's a property of the material.
Bought a leather bag (I am in Germany so no way would I risk the hassle to return trousers that don't fit). So I can only talk about the bag but it is good quality and I love it. Absolutely nothing to complain and I seriously doubt I would find the same quality (Horween leather is hard to come by in Germany) for remotely the same price. As for the bad reviews - keep in mind that people who had a good experience would likely not bother to write a review. Hence the average rating is very likely massively biased towards 1 or 2 stars. That being said I never ordered clothes precisely because of the sizing issues I expected. Shipping was 2 weeks including customs 👍
They buy email lists and start spamming you trying to bait you into buying their garbage clothing. With that, would you support them or an actual company? Exactly.
Meh company and quality of clothes is sub par for the price you can get much better else ware.
I was just so uterly disappointed. 6 years ago they had the best shirts. High quality, perfect fit. Now they are wal-mart quality shirts that shouldn't be priced over $20 retail much less priced cheaper given a crowd sourced system which is supposed to make things cheaper.
The idea is cool, and their website gives a great feeling of confidence that you're going to get something nice. Not to mention the price tag, which for this case was about $180. For that price, I didn't expect to get a pair of pants that were cut and sewn so crookedly that the inside seam on the left leg actually sits closer to the middle of my shin than it does the side.
I understand a wait of 5+ months during this time when there are ongoing global procurement issues. It was when they final arrive and they are a mini version of what was ordered. Just because you put a tag on them that says they are 32 doesn’t make them 32. They measure as 26 by Gustin own measures on their site. And it is almost as if the legs were put on backwards with the thigh being incredibly tight and tapering out to the calf. I am glad I just bought the one pair to test out the fit because I will never buy again now. I will be reviewing at every other site to warn people to avoid at all cost. I did email the company to give feedback but have not heard back either.
Ordered Medium size many times and did not have much issues but they sent me Small size and labelled it Medium. I compared their own items and sent them pictures but instead of owning up to their mistake they clarified how they measure and that it will expand. In my experience all their items actually shrink, And I was shocked by their audacity to explain me how I am measuring incorrectly. Such a shame. Never buying from this liars again.
Awesome service! Great way to get high quality products with a very unique style at a very reasonable price for the quality of fabric you get!
Only complaint is that they often times take a lot longer to get you your product than they project, so minus 1 star for that
Value is off the charts. Great quality for price. Problem is they deliver late. Don’t expect them by a certain date.
I really wanted to like this company. I ordered 11 pairs of jeans from them over the years. Mostly ok but a few times the quality was off. Top Buttons that broke off. Eye seams that came unravelled and sizing that is inconsistent and some times way, way off. Like a size 29 when you ordered a 32. I Could not even pull them up or do up a single button.
Delivery is very slow. I ordered a warm fabric pair in the fall/early winter and did not receive the pants until Summer of the following year, when it was too warm to wear them. The fit was way off and when I reached out to customer service to swap them out or return them they refused. As a customer, I did not feel appreciated or cared for. Their customer service pretended like they cared, but in the end they did not stand behind their talk. I won’t be buying with them again. Too bad. I really wanted this company to succeed.
Shipped wrong pants (different colour scheme, LESS ATTRACTIVE) though the label is correct, a funny thing. The built quality, especially button holes stitching, is not overwhelming taking in account the waiting time. Lightweight fabric, robust buttons. Overall mixed bag.
....Size one size up to your regular
PS. It's just a theory but I was among the last to be dispatched. Provided that, the entire batch was mishandled with the right label on the wrong pants I don't think I was the first one complaining. Very very strange company policy putting it mildly.
Sizing is off, way off. Size I get with all other American manufacturers is way to small. They say they do not use "vanity sizing" which basically show their own vanity. Wait time is longer than they say, this along with the arrogant customer service makes them a no-go.
There are several points to consider if thinking about doing business with Gustin. First, understand that you will be waiting for several months to receive your items because Gustin is a “crowd-funded” business, meaning they run “campaigns” to take orders which are paid in advance, before items are manufactured and shipped. The design and quality is excellent, however the sizing is rediculously small; order two sizes up! All clothes are completely woven, cut and sewn in L.A., California.
For the quality of their products, value is quite good.
I wanted to share some positive experiences I have personally had with Gustin over five years of ordering a variety of items from the company.
I absolutely love their heavyweight T-shirts. In my opinion you can't beat them for the price, especially for something that is American made. I also love my 1968 jeans — also an unbelievable value for an American Selvedge denim. I stand by the quality of these items and will certainly order more in the future.
Earlier this year I ordered a few items from Gustin and neglected to update my address in their system after moving. The items were shipped to my old address, and the new homeowner did not forward them or return to sender. Even though this was not Gustin's fault, they offered to send me similar items from their stock to replace the items I never received. They could have just told me tough luck, but I really appreciated that they made sure I didn't walk away empty-handed.
