I used a removal company, Hadley & Ottaway Ltd, who are a Which? Trusted Trader, believing that would guarantee me at least a reasonable level of service. However, the removal company's service was poor and when I got in touch with Which? Legal about what had happened they asked me to notify Which? Trusted Traders, which I did. The removal company didn't comply with several clauses in the Which? Trusted Traders Code of Conduct, but Which? Trusted Traders have done almost nothing about it. I've spent a considerable amount of time since October 2021 giving information to Which? Trusted Traders, but the last time I heard from their staff member Philip Thomas was on 29/11/23, saying he would respond as soon as possible. It has been like this all along with Which? TrustedTraders, with me waiting patiently and then having to chase them for a response.
My experience of Which? Trusted Traders is that their scheme offers nothing to customers. Contrary to their publicity, they don't require their members to comply with the Which? Trusted Traders Code of Conduct, and getting any kind of reasonable or timely response from Which? Trusted Traders has been almost impossible. I'm putting today's date for this, as it's been going on for so long that Trustpilot's date system doesn't go back far enough.

3/3/25: Thank you for your response. Which? Legal recommended I should submit a complaint about Hadley & Ottaway Ltd to Which? Trusted Traders (WTT), and I did that in October 2021, including photos and copies of correspondence. On 23/10/22 I was still chasing a response that showed someone at WTT had read my complaint. In my 4/4/23 email I tried again to explain the poor service from your member Hadley & Ottaway Ltd, and I detailed the WTT Code of Conduct clauses that Hadley & Ottaway Ltd had failed comply with. The Code of Conduct is described by WTT as the rule book for all members to follow, but there were 12 rules that Hadley & Ottaway Ltd failed to follow. For example, I should have been protected from Hadley & Ottaway Ltd employing staff who were not professionally competent, quoting for a service that didn't fit their own T&Cs, including unfair terms, including a term that had previously been struck out by the OFT, including terms contrary to the information provided in my home by one of their directors as he was selling me the service and which later turned out to have made the service unsuitable for me, and demanding full payment before any work was carried out. WTT hasn't investigated these breaches or taken any action. WTT's Code of Conduct is described as the 'framework of expected behaviour for traders to follow to protect themselves and consumers', but it is of no benefit to consumers unless WTT requires traders to comply with it. It is of benefit to poor quality traders, however, to be able to advertise themselves as a WTT member, not comply with WTT's Code of Conduct, and know they will face no consequences.
I've been a member of Which? for several years, and I believed that using a Which? Trusted Trader would protect me as a consumer, particularly as a disabled consumer, from the type of poor service I received from Hadley & Ottaway Ltd. However, it didn't do that.
Advertising a service that you don't provide puts Which? Trusted Traders in the same category as the poor quality traders you claim to protect consumers from.

Very soon after a phone call GS Roofing Ltd visited my property on 14/02/25 in Killearn to take pictures of my roof damage. This was followed up by a damaged tile being reinstated, the entire roof checked over, a blocked hopper pipe was also found and unblocked on 19/02/25, work completed as quoted. Work to my roof was done quickly and efficiently. I've used this business before and would continue to do so, also recommend their excellent service to others.

Was very nervous about going through the application but all members of staff I have dealt with at different stages have been so pleasant and helpful although they are assessing you. Proud to be a Which? Trusted trader and grateful for the extensive knowledge and assistance that they provide

We have just had Style bathrooms (Grimsby)renew our bathroom and found the tradesmen and showroom staff very professional. The workmanship was excellent everything done to perfection excellent service and wouldn't hesitate recommending them to anyone thank you.

Molly was amazing throughout our process of becoming Which? trusted traders. She was very transparent about the process and kept me updated even with it being the christmas period at certain points. Alistair who visited to assess us was very kind and friendly and outlines everything to us to make sure it was clear as well.

Really helpful and thorough

I found everyone I dealt with very helpful and friendly. The process is relatively simple and if you're unsure about anything regarding the application, there's always someone on hand to chat to.
There vetting process is thorough, which I was glad of because I think that it will serve me well down the line and will obviously give future clients some piece of mind.
Aside from that, they provided some very useful advice during the application, which I probably would never have got otherwise.
I would recommend this service to anyone and I believe that being a Which? trusted trader will serve me well in the future.

Excellent & positive experience with Gordon Smith & his workers - they did a first class job of installing my new roof, work actually finished earlier than expected & I am delighted with the finish.
Workers were polite and very hard working - they never stopped working in freezing temperatures this week. Left everything neat and tidy as before.
