If you struggle with reynauds or having cold hands, the finger prick tests can be a bit difficult. However on my last test, I was able to get blood tests done through my GP to make the process easier.

Now I’ve finally finished my course, I no longer have any active acne and my side effects were fairly minimal. I can go into the summer feeling confident again without any makeup and I feel assured if I had any concerns post accutane, I would be able to get in touch with the team and get support.

I’d had one course of accutane on the NHS back in 2019 to early 2020. This did work for me at first, but the acne came back eventually. Ever since about age 13, I’ve had acne around my chin and mouth, and very VERY oily skin. I’ve tried everything since then, and spent over half my life now trying different antibiotics, contraceptive pills, prescription topical treatments and endless skincare brands that promise to fix it - but never really do. I dread to think how much I’ve spent over the years on products that don’t work!

My skin was worsening again in 2024 due to going through a very stressful time. I was nearing my 30th birthday and was getting increasingly upset about my skin, feeling so horrible about how I look and feeling like the breakouts will never end - if you’ve ever had acne, you’ll understand the feeling of your skin being completely out of control, no matter what you do. All I could think was why is my skin still acting like teenage skin and I’m about to turn 30?! Why won’t it stop?!

I asked my NHS GP to refer me to dermatology but of course I would have been waiting a year or so to be seen. I then saw adverts for Treat Direct, and at the price of £1400 for everything, I thought why not go for it? At least this way, I’m making room on the NHS waiting list for someone who can’t afford to pay for it.

I filled out a quick form online, and then was contacted very soon after by Treat Direct’s helpful customer service team. As I’d already had a course of accutane before, I knew roughly what I was in for. For the price, i got all the medications delivered to me, as well as enough pregnancy tests and I had 3 blood tests while taking the medication.

Within 2 weeks of contacting Treat Direct, I had started taking accutane. My first dose was on 19th August 2024, and my final dose on 7th March 2025. I didn’t have many side effects, just the dry and peeling lips and dry, sometimes itchy skin on my body. Nothing too difficult to manage, although a bit annoying at times. I did occasionally have symptoms similar to a UTI, so I made sure to drink plenty of water.

For the first couple of months, I was still getting a few spots, but over time this died down. I think my last big spot was just before Christmas, so it can take a few months for it to fully work, and you just have to be patient - you will get there! I also loved how matte the skin on my face was. Let’s hope that lasts a while.

I had monthly calls with the dermatologist to see how things were going, and giving me the chance to ask any questions. Dr Maria was helpful and kind, and answered any questions I had. I also had to take monthly pregnancy tests and send a photo of that and my skin progress before these calls with Dr Maria. So much easier than when I did my last course on the NHS before Covid when I had to go to the hospital every month!

All in all it was a very easy and quick process, I felt cared for and I’m very happy with the results. I really hope I never have to do another course, but if I do, I know where I’ll go straight away! If you’re unsure about trying accutane, just know that it will work and it will change your life. It’s worth it for a few months of dry skin and peeling lips, and now I’m 3 weeks out since finishing the course, my lips and skin are feeling normal again. Some people do have worse side effects like joint pain and mood swings, but I didn’t get these. If you’re female and are sexually active with males, you’ll need to take a hormonal contraceptive and use condoms while taking accutane. I was already on the pill so this was fine for me.

My next step is to treat the broken veins on my face in a few months (must let the skin heal fully before doing anything like tattoos and skin treatments), and then I can be makeup free most of the time! I’m just hoping that my scalp doesn’t get as oily again as I loved only having to wash my hair 2 times a week while taking accutane, but we’ll see…

I enquired with the NHS but the waiting list was too long, tried all the over-the-counter products and antibiotics and cream but nothing worked, affecting my self-confidence due to it being my face.

I did a lot of research, with every single google search. I had read so many positive reviews I knew I wanted to do with Treat direct. Consultation was booked immediately and it was free too which I thought was good. The doctor discussed everything in a way I could understand. From consultation to first tablet happened so quickly, with clear explanation, and from then they were great booking in checkups, sending reminder emails and putting me at ease with any questions. I didn’t have a “purge” and was really lucky my skin cleared up so quickly 2-3 weeks.

I had little side effects just super dry lips (I recommend nipple cream, it’s amazing!!). But it was copeable. I am coming up to my last couple of tablets and I would definitely recommend doing it through treat direct, the ease of having sent the tablets is also amazing as I am a nightmare and going to the pharmacy. I would also recommend drinking lots of water with it, and taking hydration supplements- the doctor recommended this and it defo helped me!!

I had previously been on Roaccutane through the NHS but after a few years my acne returned again. I wanted to go back on it but after being put on a very long waiting list for NHS treatment I felt very disheartened. I then happened to discover Treatdirect which I am so grateful for. I was able to start my acne treatment within 1-2 weeks. The process is super easy and straight forward, my appointments were all via Whatsapp video call and my pregnancy and blood tests were posted to me and so easy to complete. For the blood tests, you conduct it yourself with the kit they post you and for pregnancy tests, you complete it and then send a dated image of it as well as an image of your face. This shows the staff at Treatdirect the progress which your skin has made each month.

Both my Doctor and the staff at Treatdirect who responded to my queries and organised my appointments were so helpful and kind. Any queries that I had when on our monthly WhatsApp call were answered there and any queries that I had after that were answered via email within a few hours.

Can not recommend TreatDirect enough! After getting bad hormonal acne whilst coming off the pill at 23 years old I was left completely reflated and my confidence dropped massively. For 3 years, I tried treatments, light forms of medication and saw multiple dermatologists. However, after exhausting all my options and nothing working, I decided to try roaccutane.

At first I was really nervous as I heard all the possible physical and mental side effects and was unsure how it would affect me. The first consultation with Doctor Marie at TreatDirect was really reassuring and it was nice to learn from a professional what the treatment would be like. Throughout the course of the treatment, TreatDirect’s team and doctors were great at reassuring me through the process whilst providing me with clear advice. They were great at communicating over email and really helpful and proactive in certain situations. For example, I was having to leave the country for work and was going to a tropical climate. I was worried about the sun exposure and the timings of my medication being dispatched. The team took this onboard and made sure I received my medication on time before leaving as well as recommending certain suncreams and to just avoid sun exposure as much as possible. Another time, I had to go on another dose of antibiotics for a skin infection whilst on roacctune. I emailed the team to get the ok I could mix the medications and got a reply from them within an hour to confirm it was fine.

Lastly, I personally didn’t really get any side effects except for dry skin, lips and sometimes irritated eyes (in the warmer climate). However, these were all manageable with creams and lip balms.
A personal recommendation for the dryness, is to get the round pot of Eucerin Aquaphor soothing skin balm. This stuff was so so good for my lips as you can just plaster a big lump on and it did wonders. Then when you are on the go get the Aquaphor intense lip balm! I think I ended up buying 8 of these in total but so worth it.

The best service ever. Quick and efficient process. I had been advised by my own doctor it would be a 2 year wait for dermatology which I couldn’t wait for as my skin was making me self conscious. Signed up for a consultation and had a call that same week, started my course of roaccutane around 2 weeks later once I had complete my checks. I didn’t get much side affects only dry skin so I was lucky. My skin started to clear after a month on the tablets so I was super happy about that.

My main concern was back acne - I had already had one course of accutane for face acne a few years ago but my back acne came back, so I decided to go for a second round. I knew there was a high chance this would happen, and whilst I was going though the purge (it lasted around 2 weeks) I did question why have I chosen to do this . However, it was so so worth the short term purge for the long term benefits of my skin. Once the purge started to calm down my skin started completely clearing up. Even old scars and marks on my face started fading. 6 months on I look back at my before photos and don’t even recognise the person in the photos.

Of course i experienced lots of the expected side effects which I was fully prepared for dry skin, dry lips , dry nose. Throughout the treatment the skin started to feel dry and the lips were quite dry most of the time, I used Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream to help the condition. Treat direct recommended Obaji skincare range during the period of taking roaccutane which also helped moisten the skin throughout the course of the treatment.
Treat direct are very well organised and although I wouldn’t always send my pregnancy test in time or photos of the face for them to keep they would keep politely chasing me to make sure all the records are in place. It was very convenient to do most of the checkups from home.
The treatment definitely works. I have got quite an oily skin and overly productive sensations glands so reaccutane helps balance out sebum production and clear out the skin. Throughout the course the dosage was different. It started off with low dosage then went onto higher once my skin got used to it then was reduced towards the end of the course which worked for me. Not a single blemish after the completed course.
