Our recent stay at The Belfry was disappointing.
Firstly, the bar service was very slow—similar to feedback I’ve seen on TripAdvisor, where “service is generally friendly and attentive, though experiences of slow service have been reported” . We waited quite a while to place and receive drinks, which is poor for a hotel of this standard.
Secondly, housekeeping never came to clean our room at all during our stay—no beds were made, bins emptied, or towels replaced.
We also had issues earlier in the evening with the fan not working, and it took over 90 minutes (plus three follow-up calls) before a replacement arrived—far beyond what we were promised.
Overall, a four-star hotel at a premium price should offer consistently prompt service and reliable amenities. Sadly, The Belfry fell well below expectations in multiple areas
Terrible experience of the Spa during a recent stay in June with 3 of my girlfriends. (07.06.25) Rather than buy birthday gifts, we chose to book a spa break to celebrate all our birthdays.
Whilst I cannot fault the customer service and rooms, we were extremely disappointed with the spa experience. We had hoped to spend a relaxing afternoon, lounging on beds, dipping in and out the pool or jacuzzi and partaking in a little drink. Regrettably the spa appeared to be over booked, and we were unable to make use of 4 loungers together instead doubled up on 2. At one point there was no room so we headed to Roccos. On arrival a large board said ‘wait here to be seated’ but as we waited the three staff just stared at us and made no intention to meet us. We then approached them and was told we could sit anywhere - what was the point of the sign?
As for the spa, only one jacuzzi worked properly, the steam and sauna rooms were rammed and by 4pm 20+ kids descended the pool. There was no atmospheric music and the whole experience was more akin to being present in a leisure centre pool.
That evening the whole place was overruled with male only golfers being loud, and uncouth and at one point soaking us in beer from a trophy they had decided to fill and slosh around. Whilst I appreciate the golfers cannot be removed as it is indeed an infamous golfing resort we did feel the staff and security could have managed these all male groups better and made us feel less intimidated.
As for the spa, this was disappointing and I do feel efforts could be made by the Belfry to not overbook, and make a more atmospheric space for relaxation. Had it not been for the impeccable service at dinner and comfy bed this would have been a very dank weekend.
Sadly we will not be returning pre recommending.

I booked the Belfry for my daughter’s 18th birthday celebration with 3 friends including spa treatments. The staff at the hotel made my daughter feel very special and I am so thankful for the little extras that they did to make it even more special. There was a balloon on arrival, she was given a complimentary drink with her meal and over all made to feel very special. The spa staff were attentive and amazing at their jobs. My daughter had Satnam and can’t recommend her enough! We have stayed at this hotel before ourselves before deciding it was the right place for my daughter and will continue to book nights away there, even though we don’t live far from this hotel. It is safe, inviting, relaxed yet special. This is due to the staff and managements continued attention to detail which as a business owner myself I have come to expect but immensely appreciate. Well done team Belfry. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you to family, friends or clients. X

We booked The Belfry’s Fire & Ice Spa Break for our first wedding anniversary, expecting a relaxing and peaceful experience. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations.
The hotel was extremely busy, filled with children running around, and the pool area was overcrowded, we actually had to queue to get in. The one hour in the Fire & Ice experience was nice, but it felt more like a short activity than a proper spa break. The room we were first given had a bathroom that smelled of sewage, and hallway noise made it sound like someone was coming into our room every time a door closed. Romantic, right?
To the staff’s credit, they were kind and did upgrade us to a suite and offer a drink, which we appreciated, but it didn’t redeem the overall experience. We also reached out directly afterwards, but the response we received felt generic and impersonal, with no named contact or meaningful apology.
We spent over £300 and were left feeling stressed and disappointed on what should have been a special occasion. Wouldn’t recommend this as a relaxing break during school holidays, weekends or bank holidays, it’s just not the right atmosphere.
We’ve been reassured that the new facilities opening soon will mean that the spa becomes a more relaxing space. Shame it’s too little, too late for us.

Overcrowded, the room everything was broken or chipped.
Restaurant manager in the evening was stressed and unprofessional, we were told at lunchtime we can come for dinner at the restaurant, then to be snapped at by the restaurant manager for not making a reservation. We were paying hotel guests, who were told we can just come down for dinner. If your stressed dont take it out on paying customers.

Positives - Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Golf courses looked fantastic. Room ok.
Negatives- Traffic backed up onto main road due to traffic lights for new building works. Poor signage around sight. Hotel very cold , room was freezing and central heating sounded like a toilet being flushed. Noisy at night, people arguing as they walked along corridors.Ryders grill was average, dated seating had to use a cushion to sit on as chair so low. Tables too close together, having people’s backsides glide past your face as they sit down. Guests arriving in scruffy jeans and trainers for meals . Drinks very expensive plus service charge. Pool area busy on Friday afternoon, no privacy in freezing cold changing rooms.
First visit, not the place for me. Disappointed. Upmarket Butlins ( no end of security guards in bar / reception area at night) at best.

A very nice hotel and they offer some nice spa treatments. The rooms are nice and it's a great place to stay.
The pool is always overcrowded and the sauna/steam room is very small. You'll never get a sunlounger as people leave towels on them.
Bar is very expensive and I felt a little ripped off.
Worth staying and the food is really nice, just a shame about the pool that lets it down.

Disappointed to say the least. We booked a spa here in September and had an awful time for varying reasons including them not being aware we booked in on arrival (9 guests) and the pool being closed!
We were offered a return stay but they wouldn't honour the fire and ice package or the massage which we accepted.
We were booked back in for December, when we called back in, in December to book fire and ice we were told we weren't actually booked in again! A third date was arranged for Sunday 26/1.
On arrival on this day we were told again that we were not booked in, even though we pointed out we had paid nearly £300 for fire and ice.
The lady dealing with it, then asked us to wait whilst she contacted the Guest Relations Manager. After doing this she came back to say there was no record of any complaint concerning our company or our names. An email was then provided by us to evidence this.
This went back and forth for approx 2 hours, and eventually we were told to leave. This was in a busy reception area and was extremely embarrassing as we were made out to look like we had no reason to be there and we were in fact lying.
Later that afternoon the Guest Relations Manager called to say that she had found the booking and that she was the person who actually booked us in for the meal?
Prior to this conversation I received 2 emails pretty much accusing us of lying. They also said we had tried to book fire and ice that morning to convince we had a booking for the spa. Evidence was available to show if was booked and paid for in December.
The Guest Relations Manager refused to share contact details in order to escalate our experience, she also promised a call back by Tuesday 28th Jan - we are still awaiting this call.
This whole experience has been stressful and unnecessarily difficult. There is nothing relaxing about a Spa Day at The Belfry.

A party of us recently stayed overnight and had a lovely time, room was lovely, but do feel the food as gone down with quality and choice. One person at to ask for cheese on toast because spicy food, not filling counter quickly enough so no fish or rice to go with curry that was far to spicy. No dressing gown to use when using spa facilities. So disappointing.

A note to the management for consideration: spa slippers should have been included & your drinks prices are mind boggling.
