Our trip was excellent. Jose was a fantastic guide. He was so knowledgeable and made the trip amazing. Everything went perfectly smoothly. All transfers were seamless, All hotels were excellent. Our driver Andy was great. I highly recommend hiking the Inca trail with Southern Explorations.

The company was very open and flexible in helping us to schedule our trip and tours. The main guide was experienced and knowledgeable, and the guides on other specific outings also were. Options for hotel upgrades were amazing. We felt safe and cared for during our trip.

My trip to Bolivia organized by Southern Explorations in October 2024 was excellent. It exceeded expectations for the variety of activities and the excellence of our guide Joel, whom we had the entire time we were in the country. Excellent 8-day guided tour of the mountain towns of Ecuadorian Andes! A good itinerary, knowledgeable experienced guides and driver. Overnight stops at 16th Century haciendas, great food, luxury surroundings. The advertised itinerary & schedule didn't quite fit our schedule or for dour travel companions, and Southern Explorations was able to adapt to meet our needs.

Our experience with Southern Explorations exceeded all our expectations. The hotels, the drivers, the guides, the sites, the communications, etc--everything was thought out and carefully planned to meet our needs and desires. We visited both the Amazon (via Porto Maldonado) and the valley of the Incas (including Cuzco, Macchu Picchu and a couple other towns and sites). The trip had two components and was well planned out with one very glaring exception. This relates to the return flight from Porto Maldonado to Lima and our connector from Lima to Cuzco. The time between both flights was under an hour, and it was exceptionally difficult to do. We barely made it, as we had to leave the secure area and then go through security again before we could get to the gate. Several members of our Amazon group were also on this flight and they DID NOT make it. A minimum of 2 hours should be the standard to get this done! Once in Cuzco the remainder of the trip was great. We had a private guide and driver (Jose and Andy), which I would highly recommend. It provided us with a wonderful flexibility simply is not available in a group setting. Despite that one flight, I would highly recommend Southern Explorations (just make sure that flights leave you enough time for transfers). Kaitlyn and her team are first rate.

Southern Explorations made my wife and my trip to Peru, and 4 day hike along the Inca Trail, a once in a lifetime experience. Seriously ! From the moment we arrived in Lima until 10 days later when our guide left us at the Lima airport to fly home, there was not a moment when Southern Exploration and it’s people did not care for us or provide for us. They and all of their people, from the porters to the cooks, and especially our wonderful guide, all took amazing care of us. They were professional, organized, friendly and just wonderful and caring people. We couldn’t and wouldn’t have done the Inca trail, hiked to Pachu Pichu, or even traveled to Peru in the first place without them. We highly recommend them.

From the trip planning phase through and including the final handoff in Cusco at our trip’s end, Southern Explorations was exemplary - if I could give the company a 10 star rating, I would do so without hesitation. Everyone on “our team,” beginning with Kaitlyn, who patiently and timely answered myriad questions in advance of our departure, to our Lima greeter, who facilitated our flight to Cusco with boarding passes and luggage tags in hand, to our incredible, personable guide Jose’ who opened our eyes to the Inca culture and motivated us when we struggled during the trek, and finally to our marvelous 12 man trekking crew (chef, sous chef, organizer, head porter, and porters), who managed not only to welcome us with applause and fresh fruit juice each time we made camp, but also provide us comfortable sleeping gear, a toilet/shower tent, 3 amazing gourmet, beautifully plated meals a day (and on our last night, a baked birthday cake in celebration of my 70th, complete with a round of happy birthday in both English and Spanish). I wholeheartedly recommend Southern Explorations.

Our 4-person Inca Trek to Machu Pichu and Peru experience was beautifully handled by Southern Explorations. Our guide and trekking crew created an experience that exceeded our expectations. This was our 3rd trip with Southern Explorations and by far the best.

Everything was very well organized and easy to navigate. Kaitlyn was always available to answer any questions, and quickly made changes to the scheduled when needed. Our guide and driver were wonderful- knowledgeable, friendly and kind. All the hotels were very comfortable and safe.

We had a wonderful trip with our children and grandchildren. Everything southern explorations did to organize exciting adventures for all of us was right on point. The places we stayed were perfect for ages 4 to 74 were wonderful, everything went without a hitch. Our guide, Jose, was engaging, and knowledgeable and responsible. The driver was quite careful on the winding roads during the pouring rain! It was a treat to have someone else facilitate all our arrangements. A perfect way to celebrate our 50th anniversary.

The team at the lodge was extremely personable and so attentive. From pick up in Quito to drop off at the Santa Cruz airport for departure, the S.E. team was top notch the entire time.

Special mention to Adrian, our tour guide in Quito on Saturday before the islands. Adrian was an outstanding guide for our family. So knowledgeable and with the most easy-going and comfortable manner. What a great ambassador for Ecuador.

Our itinerary was tailored to exactly what we wanted to do. There was a change at the airport before our trip and the team took care of the changes and let us know our options. Planning this trip was super easy and our guides in Quito and the Galapagos were amazing. Will definitely use Southern Explorations for my future trips to South America!
